Yeah, noone really does like Max. He kinda reminded me of a really nerdy crybaby. Maybe that's cause he was. Plus when the voice actors switched I didn't like his, too girly. Nor did i like May's, but May is still pretty cool. Yay Munchlax!

Brocky was my favorite.

My vote's for Tracey. Sure, he was the dorky replacement scrappy, but he really was great. He wasn't a complete idiot (as Ash can be), he's not a bitch (as Misty often is), and he's not a hopeless romantic (brock). I mean... yeah, Trace has his occasional dumb moments, but thankfully they're few and far between.

Misty, she was the only female companion who wasn´t a coordinator. Plus, when her THREE older sisters had all gotten their asses kicked by Gary and just wanted to hand over the cascadebadge to Ash she was like: "NEVER! This is my gym too and I´m gonna defend it!!"

Wow, the thread is really dead...
I would say Pikachu, but it is not an option, boo. So I say Brock since he is the oldest in the group for the first generation. He's 50% smart, and 50% womanizer, kinda... I guess...  ; no comment.
