Global PokédeX Plus Forums _ GPXPlus Discussion _ What's the longest Shiny Hunt you've ever done?

Posted by: Roscoes Wetsuit Jan 20 2014, 07:16 PM

What's the longest (time) hunt you've ever completed, or is underway?

I've had some trouble with being active on the site, so I've had at least 2 years of inactivity within the last 2.5 years, and I have awful shiny luck, so my longest hunt is still underway. I have a Gastly hunt that I started on the 2nd of October, 2010! Hahahaha! I have two hunts from 2011 and two from 2012, also!

Jeez that's a long time! Fair amount of eggs too! I always expect a shiny to hatch within the first 50 eggs, and when one doesn't, I slowly loose interest in that particular hunt haha!

This hunt's currently the oldest one in my recorder. I stopped breeding for SWSHs because of that.

Currently, this hunt is the longest:

My longest past hunts have been Sandile (1,339 eggs) and Scraggy (1,332 eggs)

My longest current hunt is Trubbish (729 eggs)

As for days...
My Hoppip hunt went from Apr 9/12 - Jan 20/13 (1,144 eggs) and Sentret from Feb 1/11 - Jan 4/12 (1,149 eggs).

Yeah, I really don't have much shiny luck :|
My eggs average is 333 (though it feels more like 500 at times), and my time average is around the 8 month mark.

But dams, some of these hunts...

Posted by: Loulybob Jan 21 2014, 05:11 AM

The largest amount of eggs was the Porygon shiny hunt at 779 eggs.

I was inactive on the site until recently so my Shinx hunt stands at 251 eggs hatched and date started Feb 25/13

My egg hatch ratio used to be really high but it got pulled down a lot by my 10 egg Houndour hunt |D

Posted by: Margo Jan 21 2014, 08:06 AM

Time-wise, my longest hunt so far has been Weedle, which took me 129 days to complete (1319 eggs).

Egg-wise, my longest hunt has been Beldum, which took me 1813 eggs to complete (in 100 days).

My longest currently ongoing hunt is Volbeat, which started October 26th and is currently at 1161 eggs.

Posted by: Tyranisaur Jan 21 2014, 11:22 AM

Time wise I could probably say that my longest hunt was Crystal Onix, which I started before you could shiny hunt novelties with the shine recorder and I also took a considerably long break from breeding them. The fact that they are novelties means that the time it takes to hatch eggs will be longer, which is one of the reasons why comparing that hunt to regular pokemon seems like comparing apples to oranges. But anyway, the hunt can pretty much be summed up by the daycare offspring.

Spoiler (click to showhide)

My longest hunt eggs wise is Magikarp at 2191 eggs, which I completed within 8 days or so. This is also why I don't like to think too much about the time it takes to complete a hunt, since that will in most cases reflect mostly how fast you were hatching eggs during the period it took. That is obliviously being being affected by other factors, like how active you are and whether or not it's easy to hatch a lot of that egg.

Posted by: DrSnap Jan 21 2014, 11:51 AM

My longest hunt eggs wise was Feebas, 2317 eggs.... A tiny bit frustrating at the end, I'll say. A year and a half, roughly.

And time wise, I guess it's that :

Time wise, my longest hunt was Pudgy Pidgey (278 days, 27 eggs), longest non-novelty was Ducklett (262 days, 656 eggs).

The most eggs was Litwick (34 days, 1050 eggs).

My longest currently active hunts are Feral Zergoose (Eggs Hatched: 108, Date Started: Jan 7/13) and Chinchou (Eggs Hatched: 1,002, Date Started: Jun 25/13).

Still doing my shiny Summer Swinub hunt T_T

Shine Recorder says I've been doing it since 8th November 2011, but it was more like since Summer Swinub was first released... (because I added it to the Shine Recorder when that account upgrade was available).

363 eggs hatched so far, and no luck. Of course, it's hard to shiny hunt when your Daycare Pokés don't want to make the novelty, lmao. Good job we have that Pass Power now...

Longest egg-wise that was completed is Houndour with 339 eggs; longest incomplete was Bulbasaur, with 461 eggs. He just doesn't want to hatch. :/

Eggs hatched: Shiny Mareep, 1,588 eggs. I didn't think I was EVER going to get one.

Actual TIME: Petilil. Started on February 8, 2013. STILL ONGOING. Granted, I've spent some time away on hiatus, but still, it's my longest hunt time-wise even if I take the hiatus time out of the equation.

Time taken: 497 days with Growlithe.

Yeah, I didn't count time either for the same reason.

Longest ongoing is Amaura from the September SWSH which is at 1,363.

Longest complete was Staryu at 2,364. My second hunt for it was 586 which was nice after the first one.

I hope none of you have hunts that last that long, especially my first Staryu one.

Now at 1,469.

Time wise my longest ongoing is Absol which I started February 16th. But that's because it's a 6400 egg and I usually focus on the 5120 ones. Hence why it's only at 607 eggs despite it being 9 months.

Longest ever was Miltank. This Pokémon was egg #527 in Redtha's 766-day shiny hunt started on May 20th, 2011. Ended on June 24th, 2013. So over two years. But I was gone for about 15 months of it. In fact, I think I got this shiny shortly after returning so it was a nice welcome back present. ;D

My longest when I was active the whole time seems to be my first Gastly hunt which was six and a half months. So even excluding my long absence, Miltank took about 10 months and I guess is still my longest. Though Absol is probably going to surpass it.

Posted by: Yuto Nov 30 2014, 11:50 AM

Time-wise would be me Sneasel (now completed and a Weavile), although I did leave for a long time.
Eggs would be Cyndaquil at 656

I'm always going on hiatus, so it's common for all of my hunts to go on for ridiculous amounts of time. My longest are the Ponyta and Shuppet hunts: both were started on Dec. 9, 2012; the Ponyta one finally ended on July 21, 2014; and the Shuppet one ended on Sept. 8, 2014. So, yeah, nearly two years. It's even sadder when you realized that the combined amount of eggs hatched still doesn't come close to the one with the most hatched (Shellder took 1,395 eggs and less time to complete).

Ongoing: Still looking for a shiny fenniken from when the Sept 2014 SWSH happened

Currently at 744 for Joltik, still on going. Started on March 15th, so exactly two months today. xD

I think time-wise my longest hunt is the Eevee hunt I'm still trying to finish, which has been going on for 800-something days now.

But the most eggs I've hatched in one hunt was 2524, for this guy: http://gpxpl.us/oEndx

That's one record I hope I never get the privilege of beating...

This Pokémon was egg #1160 in Wastelander 's 546-day site-wide shiny hunt started on November 15th, 2013.

The one hunt that will forever haunt me...I'm not even too fond of Milotic, but it was leftover from that SOTM hunt from a few years back, and I had hoped to get the hunt lasting over a thousand eggs out of it.

Still trying to finish the SWSH for Roggenrola. One day. One day...

Posted by: SCP 682 Jun 23 2015, 02:45 PM

My highest in terms of eggs was a Houndour at 714. I know it's not a lot, but maybe I should be grateful for that.

The longest in terms of days, however...

http://gpxpl.us/xcJrQ
This Pokémon was egg #510 in AppleSpider 's 865-day shiny hunt started on February 2nd, 2011.
I did not enjoy that 2-year hunt.

Posted by: Spoovo The Pirate Aug 22 2015, 06:09 PM

Well, I'm not quite at record breaking levels, but I've just passed the 1700 mark for Chespin, and still no shiny in sight. In terms of days, I wouldn't know exactly. Very few of my hunts have gone past 500 days, although I (unofficially) hunted shiny Omanyte for over three years. The GPX deleted my old hunt for it because I went inactive. sad.gif

I've also got a Ditto hunt that's been going since October 2012, but that doesn't really count, does it? Bcus Ditto?

Posted by: Targaryen Sep 5 2015, 09:47 PM

Tympole at 1,512 eggs
Wailmer at 1,410 eggs
Patrat at 1,085 eggs

Time-wise probably my Dracowymsy hunt: "This Pokémon was egg #861 in Targaryen 's 765-day shiny race against Stargaze started on January 12th, 2013."
Second longest was Sh. Clone Bulbasaur "This Pokémon was egg #291 in Targaryen 's 587-day shiny hunt started on January 7th, 2013."

Honestly novelty hunts are the worst. I'm only doing them for the achievement :/

oh and my current most eggs hunt is Staryu at 468 eggs and my current longest hunt (Crystal Onix -_-2.gif ) is from April 2015

771 Bronzor, 768 Shellder, and 587 Remoraid. Apparently, I've gotten off easy with these.

Posted by: Sniper Warrior Sogeking Sep 6 2015, 05:53 AM

Egg-wise, my longest hunt so far was my Klink hunt, which took 890 eggs. Though technically, I'm still hunting after a female shiny Eevee, which I still haven't found after over 2000 eggs (though I did complete several Eevee shiny hunts which were all male.)

Time-wise, it's any of the hunts I was on pre-hiatus. But I cancelled all of those before going on said hiatus 3 years ago and re-started them when I got back a couple of months ago. Longest continuous hunt seems to have been my Ponyta hunt (also the last completed hunt pre-hiatus), which took 308 days but only 190 eggs.

Posted by: Elenya Sep 6 2015, 03:53 PM

My longest hunt is already done.
I completed the hunt on 1st December 2013 and it took me 569 days and 1714eggs to complete it.
What pokemon it was?

This one
It was the SWSH in May 2012.

Posted by: Kelleo Sep 7 2015, 03:15 PM

Used to be my Seviper hunt which clocked in at 1,147 eggs, but it was recently surpassed by my Tyrunt hunt at 1,158 eggs. I don't ever have any hunts that last only 100 eggs or so anymore...

Posted by: Shiny MegaMareep Sep 7 2015, 03:27 PM

Eggwise: Noibat from the January 2015 SWSH (1143 eggs)
Time-wise: Bulba Clone (291 days).

On a second note, I was looking through my breedings to see what shinies I've bred and looks like I bred someone a shiny which they've been hunting for 859 days (2+ years!).

My Amaura hunt is officially a year old this month; 1387 eggs and counting.

Posted by: AregularFrankiefan Oct 2 2015, 04:28 PM

With the Shine Recorder? Misdreavus. Like 900+ (I was lazy and kept forgetting to register it in the Recorder for a few months) Eggs and counting so far. It sucks that the Eggs don't spawn often in the Lab because of Misdreavus's sort of high rarity.

Ha, wonder if I'll be able to get Persistent. (Though it's not really like I'll be bummed if I don't.)

Posted by: shadowlarvitar Oct 2 2015, 11:43 PM

As of right now the longest is Duskull at 254, completed.

Fennekin is catching up at 116. Fennekin's been going on longer than Duskull however.

I don't have all the extra Shine Record slots yet so I haven't "officially" started hunts for things like Ditto who could possibly keep that slot "locked" for awhile.

My longest hunt is Cubone for SWSH with over 900 eggs so far.

Posted by: Cherubi Problematique Nov 20 2015, 04:35 AM

My longest so far was Snivy with 836 eggs.

Edit: I now realizes the thread asked for time, not egg numbers. Then my longest would still be Snivy, lasting from January 17 2012 until October 10 2015

Charmander was my longest one

Posted by: Alex Mercer Nov 20 2015, 11:25 AM

I tend to measure length on eggs and not time, because I frequently take long hiatuses. Though with time, my longest complete hunt is Meowth; 3/14/13 to 9/19/15, 447 eggs. My longest incomplete hunt is Primal Dialga, which started on 11/6/11 and is still ongoing.

Posted by: ThunderMouse Jan 18 2016, 08:59 PM

My longest one is still going. It's a Shiny race for the Office Wars achievement and it has been going on for about 3 years. I am considering talking with her on calling this group quits and switching to see if we would have any better luck.

Posted by: Dr Electric Jan 25 2016, 01:49 AM

But when it comes to time, I'm not going to count my Rayquaza hunt, which started in 2012 and only has 11 hatched. My longest non-Novelty, non-Legendary hunt is Tyrogue, which lasted from November 2013 to April 2015

I might have the worst luck in the history of novelty breeding.

Posted by: Dragonmage Aug 4 2016, 04:03 AM

I tend to measure time by eggs hatched because dates get messed up when you go on hiatus. I would also put personal hunts on the back burner for SWSH so personal hunts are kind of distorted timewise.

Greatest number of eggs for an ongoing hunt - personal (SWSH Sept. 13, 2012)
Dratini - 400 - I will have a pink noodle if it kills me

Longest time for an ongoing hunt - personal
Shinx - since September 9, 2012 - only 75 eggs as it got put on the back burner for Dratini and Absol SWSH which became personal

Greatest number of eggs hatched for a complete hunt - SHWH
Rufflet - 604 eggs

Greatest number of eggs hatched for a complete hunt - personal
Hoppip - 448 eggs

Longest time for a complete hunt - personal
Relicanth - 562 days

Posted by: BlackBat09 Aug 6 2016, 08:32 PM

I have already posted in this thread, but here are my new records..

Most egg hatched: shiny Seadra, 1381 eggs. Same as before. I still don't have anything even close to this (luckily!)

http://r.gpx.plus/ttGxx
This Pokémon was egg #1381 in D E A N 's 325-day site-wide
shiny hunt started on November 16th, 2011.
When I sort my PokeDex with Most Obtained (Egg) this is my top 10:
  1. Horse 1500 eggs: 3 shinies (1381 eggs to get one shiny, 119 eggs to get two shinies)
  2. Pichu 1490 eggs: 9 shinies (shiny ratio 1:161)
  3. Charmander 1299 eggs: 3 shinies (ratio 1:433)
  4. Sandshrew 1254 eggs: 2 shinies (ratio 1:627)
  5. Eevee 1068 eggs: 9 shinies (ratio 1:119)
  6. Weedle 994 eggs: 1 shiny (this one is the closest with 387 eggs less than Seadra)
  7. Chikorita 909 eggs: 1 shiny
  8. Numel 897 eggs: 1 shiny
  9. Zorua 877 eggs: 2 shinies (ratio 1:438)
  10. Luvdics 877 eggs: 1 shiny

Longest hunt in terms of days: shiny Festive Makuhita, 3 years and 24 days.
To be fair I did have a break between Oct. 2014 - May 2015 (not 100% sure about the months, took this info out of my shine recorder). And I'm fairly sure that there was another break too, but it was only like month or three.

So, Jaden, my shiny Jolteon, is one of my longest - and with that maturity hatch for an Eevee, ridiculously painful.

BUUUUT.... he's actually second place.

Rufflet actually out beats him by 2,693 - granted, that was for two of them, but one of the Rufflets definitely went past my shiny Jolteon's mark. I was a bit silly about it, and ended up canceling and deleting the hunt off my shine recorder when it passed the other record.

Because I love Jolteon and wanted him to be the first in line not some silly bird xD

Of the rest of my hunts, I've had about 9 others go past the 1000 egg mark - one of them being Easter Buneary, which took ages to get. Man was I tried of breeding rabbits by that point.

In terms of eggs my longest hunt was for Pidgey, in 2012. It took 2,269 eggs in total.
In terms of time it was Pink Caterpie, which not only was a 970 days hunt but also took an absurd amount of eggs for a novelty, 880!

My longest on-going hunt is for Pichu. I've hatched 993 eggs as for now and I still have more shiny pichu to get.

I started a shiny hunt for Floral Togepi back in 2016, (251 eggs hatched so far) but I've put it on hold to concentrate on finishing the shiny hunt for Igglybuff, left over from the SWSH a year ago. (2462 eggs hatched. Any day now...)

The technically longest is Furfrou at 1210 eggs - although I have hunts that definitely feel longer.
