The Secret Santa Exchange is now open for deposits completed! See my second post.

Once you know what Pokémon you want to enter into the exchange, you will use its Options dropdown and choose "Secret Santa Exchange" under the "Move to" option.

The exchange itself will happen after 11:55pm on December 25th, meaning you have from now until the end of Saturday (server time). Depending on my availability, it will likely be hours later, or the next afternoon, but the ability to deposit will be disabled closer to reset.

Some reminders (and notes for newcomers):

• You can only enter ONE Pokémon in the exchange and you will not be able to undo your choice.
• The Pokémon will immediately be converted into an egg of its BASE form, again meaning you cannot undo your choice.
• When the exchange runs after reset of Christmas Day (December 25th), your Pokémon's egg will be given to someone else, and you will receive an egg from another person OF EQUAL RARITY.
• Rarity is dex rarity, not how "rare" you perceive it to be by availability on the site.
• Rarity is by BASE rarity. This means submitting certain novelties, such as a MEGA or some other Novelty evolution, will likely have a NON-NOVELTY base rarity (Common, Uncommon, Rare). A Mega Charizard would be a regular Charmander. Snowman Froakie would be a regular Froakie. A Winter Vulpix, however, would be considered a Novelty and would be given as a Winter Vulpix egg.
• Summonable legendaries are in their own rarity grouping, rather than with all legendaries (Very Rare). This means submitting a Ho-oh, Lugia, etc, will get you an equivalent summonable legendary back; you will not get something like an Articuno.
• Ultra Beasts are also in their own rarity grouping.
• Novelties are allowed again, except for: any Zygarde and Magikarp (the color novelties).
• Additional Pokémon that are not allowed: Manaphy, Phione, Arceus, Meltan, Melmetal, Black Kyurem, White Kyurem, all Zygarde.
• Submitting a SHINY means you will get a shiny in return, of equal rarity.
• THERE ARE NO GUARANTEES THAT YOU WILL GET WHAT YOU WANT, NOR THAT YOU WILL EVEN GET SOMETHING THAT YOU DO NOT ALREADY HAVE (although giving you something not already in your dex is the primary objective, but depending on how many people enter, and which Pokémon are entered, and how full your dex is, this may not have a 100% success rate)
• YOUR PARTY LIMIT WILL BE DECREASED TO 5 UNTIL THE EVENT ENDS, TO ENSURE YOU HAVE A SPOT OPEN IN YOUR PARTY FOR YOUR NEW EGG. Keep this in mind in case you want to wait until the 25th to deposit your Pokémon.
• The exchange script will prioritize users based on their December 25th activity — those who were more active that day will be first to get an exchange Pokémon, which helps ensure they get something new.
• I might not be available precisely at reset on the 25th, which means the actual exchange will take place later that night if not the next afternoon. Just an FYI.

The exchange has been executed.

There were 561 Pokémon exchanged.

Of those, there were 471 successful exchanges that were new dex entries for the new owners, and 90 exchanges that were not new entries.

I got a (presumably shiny) Smeargle from Chnmtl. Which is perfect for me! I'm already working through the Johto shiny dex and would have needed to hunt Smeargle soon. Plus, it's not commonly bred. Very happy with this gift, thank you.

I am very happy to have received a Sh. Fossil Lileep. This was a much needed and appreciated moment of joy.

I like fossils and am always excited to see if my underground explorers have found another egg for yet another opportunity.

I hope my gift found an equally excited new trainer.

I am one of the "Unsuccessful" exchanges.

I gave away an extra (Heart) Eevee to someone and Got an extra one of the Carbink Guards

i pretty much have everything besides evolving some pokemon and Exploration Legendarys, so there was never a way for me to get something new

Hope whoever got it needed the Eevee though

I got a Shiny Zubat in exchange for one of my extra Shinies from the Baby event a while back. This should finish either my Sky Plate or my Toxic Plate when it hatches, so thanks FaeriMagic!

I got a Zapdos egg from Xyo, and I'm so happy!

I wanted to do the Exploration for it this month, but there were three Explorations currently in rotation that I needed to do. Ultimately, I felt just a little bit stronger about the other two Legends than I did about Zapdos, so I skipped out on it. Still, I traded an Articuno I bought off the Event Shop in hopes of getting either Zapdos or Zekrom (I would have been happy with any new Legend, but those two are the ones I want the most right now), so I'm happy it worked out!

Also managed to track down the Articuno I traded. Hope you like it, saadparekh!

I got the one I wanted: A Guzzlord. I had grabbed the pokemon from the Shelter but did not have the Eggdex for it. Now, all I need is to finish off my Melmtal to complete the Alola Dex.

I do have a question. Say only one person in a specific tier put in a shiny. Would they get their own egg back? Doesn't affect me, as I just threw in a random Ultra Beast I grabbed from the Shelter, but I was curious.

Also it's dex entry info is absolutely insane.

Apparently this was summoned on the 13th by someone else, Imperial picked it up, and it ended up hatching shiny. That is so crazy I love it.

I hope the Shiny Rolycoly I sent out wasn't "unsuccessful". I'm sure there were plenty after the last event, since I had a spare... Wish I bookmarked it before! ^^;

I got a Sewaddle in exchange! That's neat, Gen 5 is among my favorites!

Sent out a shiny Klink I bred last year just for this event (the person who received it needs the achievement for it which I'm happy about ) and got a shiny Togedemaru in exchange! I love my new round boy so much

Sent out a shiny Mega Venusaur and got a presumably shiny Mudkip egg in return. I say presumably because I'm not going to hatch it until I get another one I'm hunting so I can, hopefully, get the two shiny hunts in a day achievement. Thank you!

Exchange eggs don't count towards Shiny Hunts. Definitely didn't find out by trying to cheese the 1-egg Shiny Hunt achievement this way, haha

I put in a shiny Meloetta and got a presumably shiny Mewtwo in return! The OG gen is my favorite gen, so I'm excited to get a new shiny dex entry for one of its legendaries! And I'm excited to get one with form changes for even more shiny dex entries!

I also love that both the one I put in and the one I got were originally hatched years ago ('12 for Mewtwo and '14 for Meloetta) and have been traveling around to different users through exchanges over the years, to spread the shiny dex love. It's kind of like the people who bring ambassador animals to schools to teach lots of kids over the years about conservation.


ETA: A huge thank you for allowing previously exchanged Pokémon to enter again this year! I was going to use Meloetta last year but that rule was put into place, so I wound up using another one. I was getting nervous about what I was going to use this year since I didn't really have any unexchanged shiny legendaries to spare, and was pleasantly surprised when I didn't see that rule in place and then was able to use Meloetta.

I've had this account for a long while now, but this might have been my first SSE (or at least the first one that I can remember). It was such a great experience!
