I know of a friendly guy that y'all can talk to about servers. Jason Rappaport at ZeldaUniverse is running these three large sites on one server:
http://www.zeldauniverse.net/ http://www.zeldauniverse.net/forums/index.php http://zeldawiki.org/ He is currently using a "super" server that costs less than $250 a month to use. Maybe he can help out? -------------------- |

Well, a "super server" doesn't really tell me much about the specs. Could you find out where he's hosted?

But if all goes well, it should be up and running at the start of next month. ZOMG, finally an estimated time frame! I've been checking everyday since it went offline in February to see if it was back up... I can't wait to hatch my Drifloon ^^ -------------------- |

Thanks so much for an estimate on the re-opening! Even a guess is better than nothing at all! Good luck guys; I'll keep on donating a little every few days.

Jason was able to get back to me this morning.
QUOTE We host with Liquidweb (http://www.liquidweb.com/). Although I don't have the specs of our server offhand, we're running something like the following:
- 8GB RAM - Dual quad-core Xeon processors @ around 3GHz, possibly slightly lower - CentOS Linux - Dual 150GB HDD's, or around that space, one is used for backup Hope that was helpful. -------------------- |

That's a nice build but I really don't think it costs less than $250/month, I even checked their builds over there + the costs. Unless he built the server himself and is going with colocation, which is another option we're considering (really expensive to buy the server but cheaper monthly payments). -------------------- Want a rotating avatar like mine? well, by the looks of it, i guess all we can do is just donate money for now.
although im not "REALLY" into this egg thing, nor addicted to it, i would still LOVE to donate money, but my mom is a very......well, not greedy, but just a secure person in a strange way when it comes to money. ill try to donate as much as i can. There won't be a second server, two would cost more than one more powerful one, more than likely. But if all goes well, it should be up and running at the start of next month. Have you thought about having rewards for donations? Such as an upgraded account system? Random ideas but, you could make it so that only upgraded accounts may use avatars and signatures or something. Or access to a fruit tree once a day. Each time, a different pokemon fruit will fall off, and will be worth a certain amount of points. The points could be used to purchase certain eggs from a shop, or items, etc, worth different amounts of points, some switching out monthly. =) -------------------- |

GPX+ and GTS+ use the same accounts and you can have signatures and avatars no matter what. 2. .... Pokémon fruit? Seriously? What? 3. The most I'd ever give for a donation is some novelty egg and that's it. Donations are to donate, not to give us money and then suddenly have access to all of these nicer things because you decided to cough up a few bucks. -------------------- Overtaken by Net & Zodi on that track!

You don't have to be rude about it.
I could make avatars, or signatures, or both an upgrade bonus. I was just making some suggestions, to help out your site. Yes there is fruit in the pokemon games. I'm not saying just give the site away because someone donated, but it would encourage people to donate if they got something out of it. I was just giving you some suggestions, using the techniques a lot of other websites use to get players to donate. Upgrades could be given that last for 3, 6, and 12 months, costing different amounts. (A one year upgrade should probably cost around $20) And of course donations should go to making the site itself better. -------------------- |

Ideas for donating were already discussed here. As for ideas of only people who donate being allowed to have a signature/avatar, that would mean only a handful of people will. A lot of the members are young, since this is a Pokémon forum, so we really wouldn't want to take away basic things like that and only give it to the older people who can donate. That's actually a reason why several people in that thread were against giving anything away for donating, other than a mark to show that they did donate.
We're not really discussing it anymore, which is why the thread is closed. -------------------- Want a rotating avatar like mine? Check out my website: randimg!

As for avatar galleries, there is one and that's specifically my ground. -------------------- Overtaken by Net & Zodi on that track!
