Okay, so I went to the shelter, and at the bottom, where it usually says that I have 6 pokemon left to adopt, I saw this:
 Why did it have nine instead of six? I don't have a shelter pass, but even if I did, it would let me adopt ten. --------------------    |

It's because of the Critical Mass day. On these days, you can adopt more pokemon then you usually can. Half more then you usually can actually.
