Global PokédeX Plus Forums _ News and Updates _ The future of GPX

Posted by: Zerxer Mar 11 2015, 11:23 PM

As you're all aware from the http://forums.gtsplus.net/index.php?showtopic=72284, Wymsy has decided to step down, and we all wish her the best.

She's not only been here for all 6 years of GPXPlus, but also all 8 years of this GTSPlus community. She was the third person to register on this forum, because she was here from the beginning, helping to lay the initial groundwork and then sculpt it over the years. She's done so much such as moderating the forum, creating artwork and sprites, building out the ideas for new features, managing those features like explorations and trinkets, and managing the other staff. That list doesn't even begin to give you a sense of how many hours she's poured into the site, especially during the last year or two when Jeff and I have been on hiatus. She may have been the only non-developer admin, but she was the only one that truly acted like a site and community admin.

It's a deep loss for the staff and the community, but it's a decision that I completely understand and respect. The site has had a good run, and took up a large part of our lives from late teenage years to young adult. It's not something we planned on running forever, and we always knew there would be a time when we'd all have to say our goodbyes. While Jeff and I never officially left, it's pretty clear we checked out long ago. A lot of other staff members have lowered their activity level to the bare minimum as well. Like anything in life, your interest level fades as your responsibility elsewhere rises. I know a lot of you don't want to hear that; it's always sad when your favorite band, TV show cast, or website staff team decides to disband.

As you can all imagine, there has been a lot of discussion in the back-end about how we're going to move forward. In fact, there's a rumor circulating right now about staff insider information confirming that the site will be shut down within the week. I'm here to quell those rumors... sort of.

First off, I will completely admit that we have discussed shutting the site down. There are a number of reasons for this: Jeff and I haven't had the time or motivation to update the site with new features the way all websites should endlessly grow, Wymsy leaving, activity dropping a lot over the last year, and because of that last point, funds drying up which we need so we can keep paying for our expensive dedicated server. Of course, the reason our server is so pricey is because we needed it to be a powerhouse back when the site was extremely active. I'm not asking any of you to rush in and start donating either, please don't read that this way.

Now that I've gotten that part out of the way... there's still a part of me that doesn't want to see the site close down. This site means so much to so many people. A lot of you have spent the last 6 years here, even without being staff. You've all made online friends, and sometimes more than that. I know I've made lifelong friends here, ones that I've met multiple times in person and still talk to daily. Even Jen, my girlfriend of almost 5 years, is someone I came to know thanks to this website. Last night I thought for sure this was the end -- we had made up our minds -- but then I stared at the Main/Party page of the site, refreshing with my spacebar, and thinking how terrible it would be if no one got to experience this anymore. It started to feel like losing a family member, and became all too real to me.

The option to shut the site down is still a possibility... but if we go that route, we will warn you all at least a month in advance so that you can do whatever you need to do before losing access. However, my goal is to keep the site going. My plan for the future is to move the website to a cheaper server, or cloud-based solution, which is why I'm not asking for a donation drive. We're okay right now, in fact the server's next three months of life are already paid for. Another step is to restructure the staff so that anyone who's inactive is removed and anyone who still really cares is kept around and possibly promoted. While Jeff and I still won't be around much at all to implement new features, I would make sure one or two people are put in charge, in almost the same role Wymsy had, so that the site can continue to have some new content. That content would likely include Trinkets, Explorations, and new Pokémon. There may even be more events going forward. I'm sure the SWSH is still something that would happen, as well as all of the other automatic events.

The site will, in essence, live on frozen in time, for all of you to continue to enjoy.

Who knows what the future will hold beyond this scope?

Edit: Please note that this post isn't asking for people to volunteer to help out. A large part of the problem is that handling contests and implementing new features is all code-based, and we would not be comfortable at all giving anyone access to that outside of myself and Jeff.

We've already got plans for how we're going to proceed with moderators and other staff. If we decide we need to bring more talent on board, that's something we'll handle when we get there. Thank you for your concern and the offers, though!

Thanks for taking the time to write such a thoughtful, informative post. As you know, I support you no matter what.

Posted by: Jen Mar 11 2015, 11:26 PM

Thanks for keeping the site open. Even if it is "frozen in time" that's alright. The openness and honesty is very much appreciated! <3

Posted by: Poptart Cat Mar 11 2015, 11:29 PM

Same. I'm still quite active, but I don't know about the rest of the site...although it does seem like it has wound down quite a bit. Do you think you'll keep the site on for at least the duration of the year?

Also, I'm completely willing and able to do basic-ish sprite work. I'm a little rusty, but then again I'm a (very) busy art student...I can find the time to do it.

Message me maybe?

Posted by: Aragarthiel Mar 11 2015, 11:30 PM

Thanks for such a heartfelt post. happy.gif

I'd like to ask though, why not ask for site volunteers for some things? I'm sure there are plenty of us who would be willing and able to moderate forums or judge contests in their spare time. In fact, I'm sure there are more than a few here who have a LOT of spare time.

Posted by: Doom Hunter Mar 11 2015, 11:30 PM

This is something I am glad to hear. With Wymsy gone, I was worried for the future of a site I love and honestly would be so lost without. I'm glad to hear that we'll still have this amazing site for at least some time to come. I'm also sure I speak for many of the GPX community when I say....we don't want it to go. We love GPX, Zerx, BB, and everyone who has made this happen over the years. I'm glad we can try to keep moving forward as we go.

Thanks for telling us Zerx, I'm hopeful GPX can stay onboard for good time to come. happy.gif

First of all, thank you for the honesty in your words, it's really appreciated.

I know nothing lasts forever, especially when real life and other stuff gets in the way. I hope for a lengthy future for this site (why not?).

Keep the good work, and thank you for everything.

Frozen is better than nonexistent. I was considering asking what would happen to GPX now that Wymsy's left on her announcement, but I figured there would be something like this in the near future. If the site were to go down, I think I'd be immensely upset. Ever since I found this site, I've been on it, coming up with goals for myself and enjoying posting on the forums. Anyway, as I like to say...
The future is ours to decide.

I totally meant to say that. Oops. (Now I realize: I sound like I'm advertising myself. Which I am, but not so bluntly...)

I see. Well, I certainly can't handle code, although I'm sure there are many, many users who can...and yes, I wouldn't be comfortable with letting others potentially manhandle my website either. I'd love to be part of the 'other staff,' though. Can't hurt to have more spriters, right?

Posted by: Candidate Psyduck Mar 11 2015, 11:46 PM

To repeat what others have already said, thank you for taking the time to write such an eloquent post and inform us all about the many possibilities of GPX's future. It is good to know that the site won't disappear overnight due to the lack of funds or other unforeseen circumstances.

Like Doom Hunter has said, we all love GPX, and we don't want it to go away anytime soon. I may not have been as active as others on the site are, but I came back to GPX after a few years for a reason -- because I missed this site, and most of all I missed the community. I have enjoyed being able to log in everyday and hatch eggs, read posts on the forums, etc. -- no matter how hectic or weird or uncertain my own personal life got, I always found myself coming back to this site because it was like a little sanctuary to me. A place where we can all be our dorky selves and share in each other's joy and support one another in their hardships.

So, thank you all -- admins, mods, contributers, and fellow members -- for making this site the great little gem it has been. Even though we know it won't last forever, I think we can all agree that it has been a great run, bumps and all.

Posted by: Gryphaena Mar 11 2015, 11:48 PM

Well, I'm glad there's something like this from the rest of the staff so we know how the future will be.

Posted by: PawsrentOrigin Mar 11 2015, 11:50 PM

It makes me glad that the site is going to continue. As soon as I saw the title, I just knew the post would be about site closure. I'm just glad it's not going to end soon.

And frozen will always be better than the site being gone forever.

Honestly after 5 and a half years on this site myself, I can understand the feeling of coming to a possible decision of shutting down the site - as hard as it is.

Gosh though, I still remember my early days here - back when the site was hell to click on - when firefox and opera were my best friends before the berry feeder was created. When I bought a new computer simply because it had a faster processing speed so that I click faster on this site. When I got SO excited when I snagged my first dropped legendary egg (a Zapdos) from the shelter. The luck of some of my shiny hunts and the pain of others. Explorations read and completed. Achievements won through perseverance and hard work. I've logged so many hours on this site myself, just playing and playing and playing.

But even my activity has died these past few years as I too have grown up and gotten taken away by other responsibilities and passions. After a year and a half hiatus myself I only just came back this last Christmas and started playing again, rekindling my love for this game but no where near the hardcore activity I used to have when I first began here.

Whatever decision you come to, I want you to know: Thank you, all of you, for creating it and helping to build this site to be what it is today. It's been a great experience.

Posted by: FusionWarrior Mar 11 2015, 11:54 PM

I know you explicitly said you aren't looking for volunteers, but if you need a hand, well, I'm here. I'll just go back to tinkering around in the Super Mario Bros X engine and clicking Pokemons. You've got my yearly 60, at the very least.

I wish I was better at coding to apply to step up and all sad.gif

I'd really hate to see this get shut down, and while i infrequently visit the forums, I could do something simple as.. manage the facebook page? But I'm glad we aren't going to shut down cat.gif The site is what greets me every time I open Chrome.

I've gone from being an inactive member who joined because all my friends on Gaia joined to being the only one of the group who actually went somewhere with this account. It's become so ritualistic to click at 9pm PST that if i dont, I get anxious/irritated

I'm so happy to hear that the site will continue to live on, despite the departure of one of the biggest contributors to the site, and the near-endless features it has. Even after being here for almost 6 years now, I still gain as much happiness and enjoyment as I did on the day I registered. There is always something to strive for here, and the GTS+ community is one of the greatest communities I've ever been a part of. It would break my heart to see the site close down; a lot of us have made many great friends, and many more fond memories, thanks to this site. Some of us have even formed relationships and travelled to other parts of the world thanks to this site. I've experienced many awesome things here, and I hope the site will continue to function for several years to come, so other people can share and experience the same joys I - and many others - have in my time here.

Thank you so much for taking the time to give us an elaborate update on the future of GPX+, Zerxer. As scary as the prospect of losing GPX+ is to many of us, I can't begin to imagine how you must have felt while weighing up your options. I hope your future plans for the site will be successful, and I hope your efforts will reap the rewards you desire.

Echoing the sentiments of many others: frozen in time is definitely a lot better than losing the site. happy.gif

Man I was very nervous to open this topic, but I'm glad it wasn't what I thought it was going to be. Frozen in time very much beats being shut down forever. I don't think I can stress that enough, though I know how tough it can be running a server while handing things in real life. I know you guys aren't asking for money or anything, but I was actually going to finally donate some money soon, since I've been here for quite awhile already. oh.gif I hope this site can stay up for as long as possible and I sure hope you guys find someone to fill the spot of Wymsy and maybe even a couple of others to help out.

Posted by: The Majestic Mr L Mar 12 2015, 12:06 AM

I'll be honest, when I joined in December of 2013, I knew the site was old and as I began to love it, I noticed the slow decrease in activity, including some members outright leaving, if only for a little while. It made me seriously question just how much longer the site would have, and I feared that there would be just decrease in activity after decrease in activity until the site was essentially vacant. I'm glad we still have GPX, if only for as long as we know, as I'm here pretty much all the time, even if I just have my party in a separate tab while I'm doing other things.
Like Jade said, whatever decision you guys make, I'll back it, and I thank you guys for your efforts in making this site such an enjoyable and entertaining experience.

Posted by: Walking On Sunshine Mar 12 2015, 12:16 AM

Nearing my 6th year on this site, I'm glad to see it's continuing, even if I have admittedly grown bored of it at times. From the day I joined, I have always supported it no matter what. I also like to thank those who put in their time throughout the years to keep making this site enjoyable and give people like myself more goals to work on and such. Even if it probably won't change much anymore, I'd much prefer this over it shutting down.

Posted by: Giraffe A Laugh Mar 12 2015, 12:18 AM

I love you all ;A;
It's been such an honour to be a part of the staff team, and I've met so many wonderful life-long friends, I can truthfully say those friends are the ones who've shown me the light, and made me into the person I am today, and I love you all so much for it <3
I'm so glad to see the site will remain open for a little longer, and even though my activity is pretty much non-existent at the moment, and has been for a while.. It's a nice feeling knowing I can log on whenever and see all those hard-earned pixels/achievements/whatever else there is! and ofc, I absolutely 110% support whatever you guys have planned for the future <3

I will admit- I sometimes described GPX as "my time waster" to some of my other friends. But hearing about its future makes me realize how wrong that is. GPX is not a place to waste time- its a way to embellish it. Though I've always preferred lurking in the forums to actually posting, I have always gotten a strong sense of community and commitment to this site.

Being a member since 2009, I can also understand how hard it is to remain active. I joined in middle school and never once thought I would still be playing it in my first year of college. There have been many time when I have left the site for months at a time in pursuit of other interests. However, GPX has grown immensely since those beginning days and I think it is an absolute blast to return to and see what has changed and what I can achieve.

I am glad to hear that the admin staff is making the effort to find an alternative solution - I'm sure that will be the best for everyone. I can't guarantee that life won't pull me away into reality from time to time, but I can promise that I will find a way to come back and promote this site- wither in words, time, or money (once I have some xD). Thank you for letting the community know what's on your mind.

Posted by: Vande Mar 12 2015, 12:36 AM

Having just reached over my 5th year on the site - i had a lump in my throat reading this thread. Glad the site isn't closing.

Posted by: Fletchling Mar 12 2015, 12:40 AM

I'm glad to have this information.

My activity has come and gone over the years, but GPX has also been very important to me. I also have friends I met here that I talk to daily. I know that all things do pass and the golden age of GPX is long over, but it does feel like it would be a loss to not have the little egg icon in my Chrome tabs for me to refresh and see if I have any shinies about to hatch.

Whatever happens, I have a feeling I'll be here to the end.

Posted by: demonicvampiregirl Mar 12 2015, 12:45 AM

May not be the most active of people anymore but I do visit every now and then. Hopefully something can be done to keep this site alive for those who play it more often than I do. happy.gif

Posted by: Sociopathic Sherlock Mar 12 2015, 12:51 AM

Frozen in time is better than losing what I've done with countless hours on this site, always with something new to do happy.gif I have so many memories and accomplishments here, I'd hate to see it go sad.gif

Thank you, Zerxer, for taking your take to give us an update! I hope what you, Jeff, and the others wish and decide for the site comes to fruition in the most fulfilling way possible. Best of luck~!

Posted by: Icicle Mar 12 2015, 12:54 AM

I have to admit, I had a lump when I saw in the Facebook the post regarding this, sure that it was going to be the end. I'm very glad that, for now it will be in 'stasis'. I truly made some friends because of this site and have made some memories that I don't want to see this place go. I thank everyone for what they've done to make the site what it became. Man, all nostalgic and crap now :P

Posted by: The Yatagarasu Mar 12 2015, 12:56 AM

While my activity has dropped pretty drastically (I actually only found out about this post because of facebook), I'm glad to see the site will be sticking around. June will be 6 years for me and I rarely every stick with a site that long. It definitely has had a great run so far. Glad to have been a part of it all.

Posted by: Flamewire Mar 12 2015, 12:57 AM

Best of luck with everything, guys. You have my support.

Posted by: Destry Mar 12 2015, 01:01 AM

I see a lot of "glad the site isn't closing" sentiments and find myself unable to echo them. Like many of you, I have been a long-time member of GPX+ and have fond memories of it. I too remember when it was crazy busy and how fun that was. What it is today, you have to admit, is a husk of its former self. That could be for any number of reasons, and it doesn't really matter because... no one is around to care. Thing is, without interested admins who will continue to work on the site and have it grow (I'm talking substantially, beyond the scope of a dress-up contest or whatever), GPX+ will inevitably die. It won't attract anyone new. No one's advertising it. Is it really so great to have it frozen in time? As users we will stop using it one by one at this stage. There will be no GPX+ resurgence. What are we hanging on to here?

That said, I support the decisions you admins will have to make, whatever they end up being. We all have lives, hobbies, and interests. You can't be all about GPX+ for the rest of your lives; you have greater things to do. It would make more sense to move GPX+ to something cheaper than a dedicated server, and if that keeps it around, great. Enough people love this site that you will easily find people to take over admin duties with gusto. But if you're unwilling to hand off coding responsibilities to someone new and excited about it, this site is done.

Anyway, sorry to hear it, but I understand! I'll keep playing while it lasts!

Posted by: Skins T Mar 12 2015, 01:02 AM

Thanks for the update post! I'm glad to hear that the site won't go down at least.

Posted by: AdmiralPerry Mar 12 2015, 01:19 AM

Man... it's hard to believe the amount of time I've spent here. Nowadays work and other responsibilities keep me from coming on every single day but I still enjoy popping in to see what's new. This place was such a wonderful way to spend some free time while I was in college (sometimes during class shh don't tell anyone). While I'm not a big social animal and really rarely ever posted on the forums, I still feel like I made a few friends here myself. Wish I could've contributed to the site more, but unfortunately I just lack the skills to make anything really significant. I was floored to hear of Wymsy's quitting, and seeing this thread after that... well, I suppose it was inevitable. And while I can see Destry has a point... I am in the majority echoing that I am glad to see it's not going down just yet. I still have things I'd like to do, honestly. Achievements I'd like to shoot for, a dex to complete still... maybe eventually getting that ever elusive Arceus egg? Hey, I can dream.

I know I'm getting long-winded and rambling here, but I just have this to say too. I've been on a few other 'adoptable' sites like this, but this one has, in my humble opinion, been the best. It's the one I've always come back to without fail, leaving other sites completely forgotten or activity significantly less on them compared to here. Like a few others, I remember Opera and its multiple tabs becoming my best friend. I can't believe I got the first two clicker achievements on freakin' IE! So the Berry Feeder was such a Godsend when it was implemented. I couldn't have gotten the 250,000 clicks achievement without it!

Whatever happens in the future, I wish the admins and staff all the best, and I'll be around until it's all over. Or whatever happens. You never know, right?

EDIT: Because I was a complete idiot and spelled Wymsy's name wrong. I will flog myself appropriately, no need to send a mob (at least figuratively). Blame the proper spelling/grammar freak in me.

I haven't been as active as I used to be here, but I've been around close to 8 years before GPX+ was even a thought. I've been a bit out of the loop, but I don't think it would've made a difference either way. I've had some ups and downs as a mod here, and sometimes I wish I could go back like 5-6 years ago with a clearer head like I have now. I didn't exactly "grow up" on this forum but I do remember coming here a lot and discussing Pokemon, but as it stands I haven't been playing Pokemon as much as I used to and I haven't had as much time to do things.

I also haven't been doing much with GPX+ since like 4-5 years ago on account of starting undergrad, and right now I'm in grad school so I've just left it alone. It definitely gave this place a lot of life, at the cost of some discussion quality and at times, overwhelming amounts of work. I haven't done much with the GPX+ community as a result, preferring to stay in the main forums because I just have nothing to say about GPX+.

Having that said, the possibility of this community shutting down is indeed a little tough to swallow. Made some good friends here, met Nick/Jeff/Jen IRL, and we had some good times in IRC (which still exists, it's just not that active outside of Crobat and mikethepoor - if I'm around then feel free to ping me and I'll probably respond.

Well, I'll see you guys around, I'll be lurking at worst. I haven't felt like I have much to say lately, so I won't post if I don't have anything to say.

Posted by: Kamizard Mar 12 2015, 01:40 AM

My heart was racing as I frantically read this post. I'm glad to find that my escape from real life is still going to be around for now. The site being basically frozen is better than it being gone, at least in my opinion.

Posted by: Gato Mar 12 2015, 02:00 AM

Thank you for informing us! There are tons of websites out there that would just shut down and leave the active members hung out to dry.

Posted by: lunio Mar 12 2015, 02:01 AM

I know I've basically never posted before, but after reading this post, and all the comments within, I just thought I'd share. Just reading these comments have gotten the nostalgia feels up and running, downloading new browsers like opera or firefox, tinkering in settings and add-ons to find more efficient ways to get all those much-needed clicks, it's basically how i spent every free moment, and I guess moments when I should have been more focused on things like school(psh). I decided to look at that last email confirming my anniversary of signing up, and brought a painful reality into focus, I had gotten my 5th year anniversary on april 4th, which were followed by two more for the two previous years, this site had been such a huge part of my life for around 3 years, and then I just drifted away, only to come back around halloween last year, but even then, I left for another 3 months to come back to find this. I went back and read my PM's from.. wait for it.. 2010 and 2009! WOW, i'm definitely saving these little glimpses into my interactions and priorities back then. I know a lot of others have similar stories, but I just thought I'd share mine, along with my gratitude towards everyone who had any contribution towards this site, thank all of you so much.

At first reading this update scared me to my core, this site that I loved so much, might be in it's death throes, i guess i always just thought it'd be around to just look back and reminisce the old times. But after thinking about it, everything has it's end, it might be upsetting the first couple times i try to come back and it's gone, but I'll get over it, and just cherish the good times i've had here.

Posted by: Aetherium Mar 12 2015, 03:28 AM

Was expecting this if I'm honest. Was only a matter of time. That being said its been a good run, actually leaving and coming back and spending almost 6 years on the site.

Did have a good run. It's the longest I've been faithful to a site without getting bored after 2 months but hey, where did the time go? I still remember finding mattardis' signature on Neoseeker and coming here back in September 2009 as a wee 15 year old. Almost 21 and life catches and I wonder what I've done to show for this.. Lol. Hence the decrease in my own activity. As such is life, we all grow up and move on. I'm happy to have spent all the time on here that I've done, joined the groups I joined and got to know some wonderful people whom I plan to sit on a train for or fly to in the near future!

I'm glad the site won't disband just yet but still a little saddening but a stasis site is better than no site. Frozen in time allows new people to nose around and us to revel in our achievements.

I think whatever happens I'll be sticking around until the very end (or until I can't anymore). Will be a nice way to finish. That also being said, if anybody actually wants to stay in touch I occasionally lurk on Skype but lurk more with my face on a book.

Posted by: Synx Itax Mar 12 2015, 03:53 AM

Without going deeper into it, I sincerely believed that the site was actually going to close down suddenly and immediately. Thus, I released everything I owned. Yeah, really.

That was a really stupid and rash move on my part, and I actually regret it now. Six years of hard work. And yet, a part of me feels a kind of weird comfort in it.

The community may not be as active as it once was, but there are still people completing Pokédexes, shiny dexes, achievements, battle stuff, breeding stuff, and other things on the site, and some take those things very seriously just as I did. If what I released helped out with any of this, then I'm happy to know that. I'm a Contributor after all -- let it be another contribution to the site I really love.

It's like I have to say something... I understand everything said, and I'm busier than when I registered here (april 2009 I think...)... It's true you have less time to click eggs or whatever, although every morning the first thing I do is opening twitter and opening my party (I never post so much on the forum, I've been always frightened to break some rules while posting without knowing that... I know, it's a little bit silly...)
It's hard to think about the closing, but as it's said "nothing last forever"... but I prefer later than sooner, indeed...

I hope there will be a way to solve the troubles, and we could keep going with this project and enjoy it.
Here in Spain we support gpx too!

Thanks for all the experiences!

...

I've never really thought about it, but...

I almost feel like I can't even remember a time where I didn't play this game.
I joined this site more or less round the same time I finally started, well, "maturing" as a person.

The time I've spent using this site, and following every update, and analyzing every change, and committing myself to the GPXPls Wikia has honestly directly impacted my life in so many ways. If not for this place, I'm not sure if I would be pursuing the same career in computer science & computer engineering that I am now. I wouldn't have tweaked my dad's old computer and downloaded Opera and so many other programs just for this website. ...Like, It's not even just online relationships. I probably wouldn't know half of my real-life friends and acquaintances if following this site didn't peak my interest in the direction of computer development as it did. I would probably be a different major. There's a modest chance I wouldn't be in the same university I am. I wouldn't be living in the same city.

It's nothing short of amazing, when I think about it...

Honestly...
Thank you guys.

I'm far from an avid poster and I've barely even spoken a single word to most of the moderating team, but you guys have changed my life in so many ways.
I will appreciate it always.

Even when I'm old, I don't think I'll ever forget this place.

Just... Thanks.

I really appreciate that you took the time to make this post because quite frankly I had grown quite concerned after Wymsy's departure about the future of the site; I've honestly feared this for the last year or so just due to the lack of overall activity. It is nice to know that the site will at least continue to exist for some time as I personally have put lot of time in each day to the site even if that is just checking out whats new. I would hate to see this site ever leave but i know that if it must it must and I'm prepared for that possibility someday. Till then I will stay here and continue to do what ever I can for the site; I've always wished I could do more to help the site then just playing and the occasional donation but i know you guys have things under control and will do whats best for the future of the site and will make the best decision regardless of what that ends up being. Wow I cant believe its been nearly 6 years playing here seems like only just a little while go that I started playing.

Posted by: Forget me now Mar 12 2015, 05:08 AM

Exactly what m190049 said in the beginning of his post... what did I even do on the computer before GPX+? Right now I need to dedicate the 24 hours of my day to studying, and then resting so I can study more afterwards, so I've kind of closed myself off from all the games I used to play. Except for GPX+, I couldn't let go and I'm surprised that I'm still active after almost 4 years.

We can't help that someday, the day will come, but even if some of us aren't as active, we'll support you and try to help the community grow until the end.

Posted by: Swizzle Mar 12 2015, 06:31 AM

This will be my 6th year on the site and it has been quite a ride. I've made a lot of friends, hatched a lot of Pokemon, and gained a newfound appreciation for coding (especially to make a site like this run smoothly!)

Thank you for being so forward with us, Zerxer. I had been noticing over the past year or so that things were heading in a somewhat stagnant direction and while I don't have the time that I used to have when I first joined, it is still a pleasure to come and click some Pokemon at the end of the day. I had thoughts that the site might shut down after all these years, but I'm happy to see that you put quite a lot of thought into this post and into your decision to keep the site running and I thank you for that.

I'll stick around until the end and, like many others, I completely 100% support any decisions y'all might make. happy.gif

Thank you for your heartfelt words and all your (the whole team) efforts up to now and onwards.
It really was an awesome time and I'm looking forward to the future, even though I'm not really active anymore.

Posted by: Xazinay Mar 12 2015, 07:09 AM

Thank you for all that you guys have done, and for giving us this wonderful website (pair of websites?) =3

I've never been active at all on GTS, but I enjoy GPX to my fullest even if I take little breaks here and there. It's been one of the most stable sites I've been on and kept my interest the longest by far. Even after my five years of being here I still love putting on something to watch and going on clicking sprees since I'm not very good at sitting still to watch something. There are some goals I want to achieve yet, so I'm glad to hear the site won't be immediately disbanded even if it remains a possibility. Thank you for keeping us in the loop and promising us a proper warning as well if it should come to an end.

Now I'll go back to being awkward in my corner ^-^

Wow, not really sure what to say here... feels like I've been here for so long even if I've taken year-long vacations.

Thanks for being upfront and honest about this, as lots of people have already said, you've created a great site that's brought lots of people fun and joy. Never thought this site would last forever, but 6 (or perhaps 8) years doesn't feel as long as it actually is. Good luck to wherever you may be headed, see you space cowboy.

Posted by: Wastelander Mar 12 2015, 07:39 AM

I'd be the first to admit that Wymsy stepping down is a shock, but I wish her all the best.

And as for GPX+/GTS+, I'd love to see the sites live on, even if they are not able to match their once record-high activity levels. I'd like to see a return to the lovely little community we had here forum side before GPX+ was a glimmer in the admins eyes but of course times change and we'd be foolish to not change with them.

I'll happily accept any decisions that the staff decide to make, and I still like to check this place out every once in a while.

QUOTE(Destry @ Mar 11 2015, 11:01 PM) *

As someone who was with the site from if not the first, then the second day, I feel torn about this too. There is that first relief of 'oh, it stays, things won't have to change that much'. but we might only realize the extent of what this means in the long run.

I feel like we don't often realize, how much the feel of the site depended on the sheer constant amount of work the team put in, implementing new features and stuff to do to keep things interesting. The change and new things to discover are a big part of what keeps this from being lifeless pixels. I went on hiatus a few times, and I might have stayed off, if I hadn't seen some shiny new things to work towards every time I checked back in.

And that realization, of course, makes me want to say thank you for giving this site vibrant and alive as long as you did, BB, Zerxer and Wymsy.

I get to take a break from the site when I needed to do other stuff and build new things in my life, or even leave. You guys deserve that too. And I wish you the biggest bursts of creative energy when you find the new things on your path you've needed to free yourself for.

Posted by: Hiraelle Mar 12 2015, 07:52 AM

Well, that's not really a surprise.

I don't want the site to close though, but it will not be able to survive without admins that can do new things and events - and I suppose that involves coding, so if it stays as it is, it's just delaying the inevitable.

But well. Better than nothing. I wish you the best in your other interests and pursuits.

Regardless of what the future holds, I really enjoyed this site and it's run. Good luck to you all, and thank you for bringing this wonderful site to us!

Posted by: Aligatueur Mar 12 2015, 08:11 AM

I've been here for 6 years too.
And this site was everything on the Internet for me. Even if I've been not so active sometimes (because of a Shiny well I'll not talk about this), i've always wanted to stay here and to stay active.

But I've always fear this news about the end of the site. I'm sad to hear this but I prefer so much a site without any events (my goal here is for Shiny / Mass hatching so...) than a closed site because it would be so frustrating to loose everything in 6 years.

I've found french friends, we're a french groupe called "Groupe GPX+" and we know each other for more than 5 years. And this, it's only with the help of GPX+, and only for this, It hurts me to read this.

But... Even if the site closed, admins could keep the code / database and re-use it some years later... So well...

Thanks for all.

Awhs, I haven't been around for 6 years, though I only joined a year ago, I've had (and I still do) so much fun! Indeed it'd be pretty sad to see the site go shut. But everything written in the post is understandable also, so nothing to blame!

Hell, I don't even post in forums! But I felt I had to this time.

Thanks for making such a cool site! Good luck on everything!

Damn. I never thought about it, but this site's given me so many great memories. My first shiny, my first novelty (god those were rare when I started playing, freaking Zergoose shakefist.gif ), my first time seeing the "Old Man", the explorations, clicking around the shelter to get eggs I didn't have, see the new generations come, seeing the site grow, every new update being so goddamn awesome. I was never really active in the forums, but I loved going to the art section and check everyone's work there!

I seriously didn't see this coming, I guess I was in my own little world of clicking and hatching eggs! GPX+ helped me through some hard times, when I had some serious mood swings (thankfully that's in the past), I went through my teenage years with GPX+. Hell, almost 6 years. I was 13 at the time (ok, I'm still a teen), and the first years well hell for me, so coming to GPX+ was a great way to pass the time and just get distracted while doing something I liked. I stopped playing on GPX+ due to school, and after that due to me finding someone special to spend the time with.

Sorry, I just can't think of anything to write right now. Just please, if you DO decide to shut GPX down, give us a warning... I just feel there's stuff I've to do before it shuts down.

Posted by: Mamanator Mar 12 2015, 10:27 AM

I can't tell you what it means to have read your nicely written sentiments and feel the honesty and hear the struggle in your words. Gosh. Has it really been six years? Sometimes it feels like just yesterday, but I see that yes, even I've been a member for 6 years come next month. When I joined, this site already seemed so professional and had it all going that it surely must have been built ages ago. GPX+ really helped me to grow to understand Pokemon and has increased my love of the game itself and I've truly grown fond of this site beyond measure.

Despite my prior hiatus, GPX+ has always been one and the same with me in regards of Pokemon. When I think of Pokemon I automatically think of GPX (as I lovingly refer to it). The idea that one day GPX+ just wouldn't be around... never even crossed my mind until I saw that topic on my home member page. With a gulp and shudder I opened the topic and read your eloquent remarks.

Frozen in time, like others have said, would be a far better deal then loosing the site altogether. I'm hoping you and Jeff both realize how much of a staple you've created with GPX+ and how many of us there are that keep this site close to heart and means so much to us. I dread the day when I turn on my computer, click on the saved site for GPX+, and see that "site not found" message appear. I'm so relieved to see that day has not come.

I can only imagine (and maybe not even that) how much work, time and effort goes into building up a site like GPX+ and then having to maintain it constantly. No rest for the weary, eh? I just hope the three of you know how much it has meant to all of us. Thank you for continuing to work to find a way to keep GPX alive. My hope is that there can always be a GPX website to visit, play, and interact with like minded persons even if it can't be updated on a regular basis because your real world responsibilities have pulled you both from us. I truly enjoy the standard explorations that we can run through and we already have the shiny hunts we can run on our own should the SWSH prove too much. While yes, the SWSH are quite fun (even when you're still vying for one over one year later), I wouldn't mind having a "reduced" GPX+ as opposed to having none.

Whatever you both ultimately decide to do I do completely understand. I thank you for the year's of fun and information you've allowed me to access and I hope that we'll all be able to access it for months to years to come. And if not I won't be throwing eggs at you both. I'll coddle them and keep them warm until they hatch. wink.gif

Thank you for such the heartfelt post...I don't know what to say...I've only been here for two years, but I love this place, even though I'm not active on the forums much.If you do decide to shut it down,I would be upset, but I would accept your decision.I know for a fact how hectic life can get,and sometimes balancing life and Internet life is difficult.

Posted by: WillowIstari Mar 12 2015, 11:12 AM

Whatever ends up happening, thank you for keeping us informed about it. I've made friends, waited in anticipation to see if I was given a contest egg back in the day, stalked the shelter for novelties, and daydreamed about getting a ditto. Even if the site does end up closing, I had one heck of a blast.

Posted by: Dinogrrl Mar 12 2015, 11:24 AM

Been here since pretty early on, though I don't think I've ever posted much. I am on GPX+ every day though--if my computer's on, I've got GPX+ open in a tab, and every time I cycle through my tabs I spend a few minutes poking eggs and feeding 'mon. It's been a nice time-waster for me :p. I'd hate to see it go. This is one site where I've actually liked all of the updates that have been made over time, definitely an example of how to improve and not just change things because you can.

Anyway, it's been fun, and I'd be sad to see if go if/when it comes to that.

Posted by: Elocin Mar 12 2015, 11:33 AM

The last six years have been an incredible journey. GPX+ is without a doubt one of the most polished, well-designed, well-managed relaxing gaming sites I've had the pleasure of encountering. I joined back in the middle of '09 and though my interest has wavered with my rl availability, GPX+ is by far the best and most comprehensive pokedex I've ever managed to complete. You guys gave Nintendo a run for their money. GPX+ enhanced my enjoyment of the Pokemon franchise in ways I never even knew were possible.

You guys have all been fantastic, innovate, honest, and wonderful admins and it's been an honor and privilege to game with you all on and off over the last six years. GPX will always hold a special place in my heart. I want to wish all of you the best of luck with your future endeavors. I also want to thank you all for your time and dedication here over the last six years. It's been an amazing run. Thank you for keeping the site open a little longer for the nostalgia effect as well. All good things ultimately must come to an end, but it means a lot that you're willing to give everyone a little more time. Time to finish up, time to get closure, time to say good bye, time to remember. I love the site and I appreciate and admire you all.

So thank you Zerx, BB, Whymsy. Thank you for everything that you've done and everything you still do. And may you all see the successes and enjoyments you've had here once again in your lives. <3

Posted by: Chespin Mar 12 2015, 11:41 AM

I know I've been pretty inactive lately, but going on GPX+ has been one of the best gaming experiences I've been through. The site is masterfully designed and I can tell that the admins care. Also, the community is so inviting and friendly.

Thanks for the explanation Zerxer, I totally understand. I wouldn't mind this site being frozen, I'm just glad you're allowing it to continue. Thanks to all three admins for your amazing hard work. Make sure to stop in every so often!

Posted by: Tyranisaur Mar 12 2015, 11:52 AM

I'm glad that gpx is not going to get shut down soon, because it's part of my daily routine and I frankly don't know what I would do without it.

I know it was already stated that giving access to the coding of the site is not something the admins are comfortable with, but I think that is the only meaningful way to save the site. If this site is something that should live on when Jeff and Nick don't have the capacity to work on it, then I think that would seem like a better option than a half dead site.

Posted by: Sofia Mar 12 2015, 11:58 AM

I'm one of those people who has been around for a long time (February 2009 to be precise). This site holds a very special place in my heart. I spend a good deal of my time here collecting shinies. Not being able to afford a DS, this is the only way I ever learned about any Pokemon beyond Gen 3.

While I would like to see the site continually updated, even stasis is better than nonexistence. I'd rather see no updates and a continuing site than the site going down entirely.

Posted by: Lilium Alice Mar 12 2015, 11:58 AM

It didn't occur to me until reading this just how long GPX has been going on and how long I've been playing it, regardless of the span of time I stopped to handle major changes in my life.

I'm glad that, so far, the site isn't going to be shut down. I've set some lofty goals for myself on here that help time pass by and allow me to unwind at the end of the day. The decrease in activity of a ton of users has been pretty noticeable though, and it feels so weird to look at my pal pad and see several users that I met through the site and became good friends with no longer log on. This is all a part of growing up though. Passions, interests, desires -- they all change and life goes on.

Regardless of what happens in the future, thank you all for taking the time to shape GPX into what it is today. I've had my share of fun and will continue to do so for as long as I can.

Posted by: Morgoth Mar 12 2015, 11:58 AM

I'm glad to hear GPX will still be on, at least for some more time to come. I never really joined the community here, but I've been an active clicker since 2009. So GPXPlus means a lot to me. I'd be sad to see it go. But if it would go down, I'd still understand.

Posted by: Rapps Mar 12 2015, 12:38 PM

I can't say I didn't see this coming, even before Wymsy announced her retirement. With no major updates in a few years (except sixth gen of course, I appreciate that was a lot of work but that wasn't really an "update") I kinda figured you guys had lost interest. Not that there's anything wrong with that, people grow, change and move on. I think you did really well to stick with this for as long as you have.

Of course, GPX is part of my daily routine and it has been for the past 6 years. Even without updates, I still like getting on here and doing shiny hunts and other junk. I can't really imagine not checking GPX every morning. I realize that the site may die down if it's no longer updated, but personally I think as long as there are still new explorations added, new novelties and our regular competitions, the site probably wouldn't ever really die out. There will always be loyal fans.

Whatever happens, happens, and I can't expect people to stick with a project they've moved on from. There's nothing more awful than forcing yourself to work on something you're not interested in. I do hope that the site will be kept around though, I really do enjoy it. I've never been an active forum poster because of bad anxiety and other junk but I still enjoy being here and I'd hate to think all of the time I've spent on this website over the past six years may all be erased some day. I still have so much left to do.

Best of luck, whatever happens, it's been a good six years.

I actually visited your profile when you did this, thought you were leaving, and then went to see if you'd posted something about it on the forums. Instead I saw Wymsy's post.

Anyway, still unsure what might happen after those three months of payment are up...
Would donate(even if Zerx said they're not asking for that), but I don't have access to a credit card.

I have been on this site for a very long time, I took a long time where I was not active on this site and only recently came back to it. It would sadden me greatly to see the site taken down, but I would respect that decision. I would simply be happy to have the site "frozen" rather taken down entirely.

Posted by: Captain Epic Mar 12 2015, 02:27 PM

As soon as I saw Wymsy's goodbye post, I knew a post along these sorts of lines would be next.

I honestly thought, though, that the site being shut down would be imminent and immediate, so I'm very glad to hear that we've got at least 3 months left of GPX, and then the possibility of it potentially carrying on onto a smaller server. I would miss this site so much, even if I haven't been the most active lately (I'm usually still logging on every day - and have been for the past 6 years).

If it really came down to it, and Zerxer and Big Bidoof wanted to cut ties from the site altogether (which would be understandable - hobbies and interest change over time), maybe others coukd take the site over... maybe the admins could sell it to someone who would update it? I know this sounds like a silly idea, but I don't mean to just anybody - it'd have to be someone here already on the site.

Either way, I'm still happy to have GPX at least frozen. I really do hope we can keep the site going. So many veterans are still here and love the site <3

Well I for one have known this was coming for a long time, the question for me has always been one of when and not if the site will shutdown. Thanks for letting us know about the future. I check GPX+ everyday, and have been doing so since 2009. XD would hate to see it vanish so suddenly!

that being said, i understand if it needs to shut down, too. i'll be around until the end, though, for sure!

Posted by: Munchlax Mar 12 2015, 04:40 PM

I still remember someone advertising this site on the Pokemon community in LiveJournal. I said to myself that if Munchlax wasn't available then I wouldn't bother because I was already addicted to way too many other clicking sites as it was. To my shock the username was available. Funny thing is, I quit visiting all those other sites years ago but still come around here to drop/pick eggs and participate in shiny hunts.

I'm really glad to see the site is still going to exist, and I also really don't blame you guys if you feel you're at that point in your life where you want to focus your attention elsewhere. I wish you a lot of luck in finding new staff that'll help out!

Posted by: Kingis Mar 12 2015, 04:49 PM

I knew this day would have to come and I still cannot believe it.
Over the past 5 years I spent here (it'll be 5 years in 8 days actually), this site has become a small part of me. I used to check it all the time, now I check it less often, but I still case about it. I have enjoyed countless hours on this site and I'm really glad I had the chance. happy.gif

That said, I understand you guys leaving, it has to be taxing not only keeping this up but also adding new and new features to the site.

Though the last thing I'd like to do before the sites closes is to finish my shint hunts, even though I have 8 of them going on and I haven't hatched a shiny in over 7 months and close to a thousand eggs I believe. I also wish I could transfer all the Pokemon into my new AlphaSapphire (which is my first actual game btw! lol), alas that is impossible.

Edit: Once I actually left for several months but then I got back anyway... that's how much the site means to me... happy.gif

Posted by: Leomon2004 Mar 12 2015, 04:53 PM

There is another site I go to daily which used to be called PokéPlushies and now it is called ClickCritters. Two years ago they announced that they wanted to focus on original content. They started the Fandom Lockdown (Fandom = Pokémon/Digimon/anything that they didn't come up with) which some called the Fandoom. Once the Fandoom was announced, users started dropping like flies. Because Fandom stuff would no longer be released, and would be locked to each specific user's account. I wouldn't be surprised if something similar happens here. If GPX eventually does get shut down I'll do what another user suggested, save the Image codes of the Pokémon that I have so that they don't entirely go POOF if GPX gets shut down. That being said, I'll continues coming to GPX as long as I can because the site is awesome. Especially the Novelty Pokémon that have been released.

Posted by: Charquaza Mar 12 2015, 04:57 PM

I've been on this site for a while, and while I haven't been on nearly as much as others, I'm really glad the website is going to stay up, even if it is frozen. I've had a really good time here and put many hours into this site, and I have to admit that I'd actually be pretty sad if the site were to go down. But I do understand it probably would happen someday, and that this can't go on forever. Despite that, I will always be sure hold this site close to my heart. Thank you so much for everything you all have done over the years. It has really been appreciated.
I should probably end this here now though. I was never good at writing these kinds of things. sweat.gif
Once again thank you, and here's to at least another 3 months of GPX.

Posted by: Something is Odd in Kanto Mar 12 2015, 05:06 PM

Man, I don't know what I'd do if this site shut down. I've been at it on and off for so long and even now I find myself logging on once or twice a day to check on my Pokemon. Every so often I even go out and mass click just for the fun of it. This site became so much more than a simple website to me. It's odd, in a way, to say it's become a "cyber-home". No matter how many websites I've gone to over the years GPX and GTS have always been constant, daily, and joyous visits. While I never really became fully involved in the community here it's been amazing to see everyone build friendships, and sometimes relationships, through something so simple as this. A gathering of those with a common interest becoming so great a place to be astonishing. That said, when it's time to say goodbye...I just don't know what to say. Words can't explain the hole GPX+ helped fill in me. crying.gif crying.gif crying.gif crying.gif crying.gif crying.gif crying.gif crying.gif

Howdy! I don't talk much in the Forums as I really have no one to talk to, I've been here since Jan 2012 and have really enjoyed this site. I am pleased that you're still thinking about what's ahead and you clearly have more feelings for this site than your heart can handle. I hope the site lives as long as you can make it, I understand that good things don't last forever.

I'll be here till it actually keels over!

I'm glad to see that you guys are considering the future happy.gif
It's sad to see when sites just let their communities fade away...

Wish you all the best, and hope to see you around!

Thanks for keeping us all updated, Z. It wold have been a tragedy to see this great site closing down. I have made so many friends on here, and invested countless hours into completing my trinket collections and PokeDex. It'd be heart-breaking for it to suddenly just disappear. I hope that you find an answer relatively soon for anything that you are having difficulties with.

May GT/PS stand tall and live long.

As someone who joined rather recently, I must say that it would be really upsetting for me if GPXPlus got shut down. Unlike a lot of you guys, I haven't been around here long enough to see the site grow and change... And yet, for the relatively short time I've been here, I've enjoyed every second of this so far. I really hope a proper solution can be discovered so that GPXPlus can keep running for years to come.

Posted by: BlackStarLine Mar 12 2015, 06:22 PM

Well, I suppose it's to be expected eventually. Nothing lasts forever, however I have most certainly enjoyed my time on this site over the 5-6 years I've been here. I commend you on keeping this going and wish you the best of luck going forward.

Posted by: Megaree Mar 12 2015, 06:39 PM

If the site were to go down, I would literally be crying. I would miss the place so much! Time seems to fly when I'm on this site. I've enjoyed every second of my time here, and it would be a great loss to me to have this site be gone forever. I hope this site will be able to live for a long time!
Hoping I'll stay on the site to the very end! happy.gif

A month from now will mark 6 years since I registered on this site. I haven't exactly been active lately but it's been nice to always have this bit of the internet to go back to every now and then, whether to shuffle around my party or waste a weekend pressing 41234123412341234 while watching videos. You guys have done a great job on this website. Everything on this site seems so intuitive, any feature I think should exist probably does. Thanks for keeping this up for us.

Posted by: fensti Mar 12 2015, 07:45 PM

Of course I finally decide to come back and all this happens. I should've just stayed away. :p

I still remember when this site was just the forums. Way back when when you guys had the idea to make a Pokemon themed site. And then you created GPX+ off of it and things just took off. Those old days when mass clicking involved Ctrl+Tabing through all the open pages. I definitely miss that (though my fingers much prefer the new way).

I know how hard you guys work on your various projects and how much effort you put into all of them and obviously I am a fan of them. :p

I'm also glad I got to meet the two of you (and Wymsy as well) on Fire Emblem Planet way back when the earth was still young. You guys are great friends and all very intelligent and funny. Still kinda bummed I never got to meet you guys yet, though if/when I ever move out you guys are welcome to drop by sometime.

I guess I'll just have to harass you guys more on Facebook now. lol

Posted by: SilverPT Mar 12 2015, 08:15 PM

I'm really glad that you took the time to explain this. Being in hiatus for 2+ years made me realize how much I missed this. I've been in a couple of large internet communities/boards/forums so far and I can clearly say that this one is the most united and peaceful. I'm sure that we will do all that we can to keep this working. :]

Posted by: Zellian Mar 12 2015, 09:31 PM

All I've been hoping for since I came back from my hiatus was for a some new achievements, though I'm glad this has been explained and everything. I hope it's not forever frozen in time and new things do come along.

Posted by: Veta Mar 12 2015, 09:46 PM

I'm so glad you aren't ending GPX! I hope if you ever do get tired of running it, you'll pass it on to someone you trust. I'd hate to lose the site. Thank you for keeping it going.

Posted by: Growly Lobita Mar 12 2015, 11:26 PM

Thanks for keeping us in the loop- I've been playing for nearly six years now (my site joining anniversary is April 10th!) and it's been really fun! If the site does get taken down it will feel strange. There will be a tangible hole in my routine since even when I've had to give GPX+ a backseat, I've still visited at least once a day. I've loved all the creativity and ingenuity with how the site is designed and how the game is played, thank you to all the staff who made that possible!

I'm not sure if I will keep playing or not when the site is "frozen in time"... I've mixed feelings about it. I guess I need to think on it a while.

Posted by: Myou Mar 12 2015, 11:27 PM

Wow... I'll have been here for 6 years come June... 6 freaking years! I don't think I've stuck with any other site for this long (there's a reason GPX+ has always been the first tab in my browser), I still go onto Magistream and Dragcave on occasion, but those are more about checking whether an event is coming up or whether there was a new release. Nothing else has held my attention quite like GPX+. While I may not be as avid a clicker as I used to be when I joined back in 2009 or the most active chatter, I never got to the point where I felt like it was too much effort to come onto the site daily to complete my egg collection, shiny hunt, and participate in any events that sprung up.

So many memories... Playing on Firefox, downloading snaplinks to click all the pokemon, then downloading opera and tinkering with the settings so that all the eggs and pokemon lined up in a row, then chrome. All those times I freaked out when I actually found a chest/old man/mysterious egg while clicking (before the time when they stuck with you until you clicked them). Hours spent hunting for legends in the shelter after an event script ran. Late night chats with Novelty Breeders guild members before its untimely demise while waiting for reset's frozen account pokemon to hit the shelter. My freak out upon finding my first Unown in the lab that happened to be shiny (then temporary impressing people with how I could snipe them from the lab so quickly before I started sucking again xD.gif ) and then flipping out when I finally found a Ditto in the lab. Endless teasers about a possible Arceus event and theorizing in chat how impossible it would be in the future. This site certainly has gone through a lot.

I have to say I'm happy that the site's not going down, at least not yet. Something is always better than nothing. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't worried when Wymsy posted that she was quitting, since there are so many memories attached to this site, as well as so many accomplishments that I would be sad to lose in addition to goals that haven't been met. Goals like completing my shiny dex, goals like finally obtaining that Arceus egg to complete the Godsend achievement that's been messing with my completionist OCD since the Base Set came out. While I can understand that things change and everything eventually comes to an end, I'm sure I'm not the only one who would be sad to see it go.

I can also understand not wanting to turn over your "Baby" into someone else's hands since you would ideally want someone that not only can handle the site in its full capacity even in the worst situations (bugs/glitches/hacking/etc.), but someone that you can fully trust to take care of the site and not abuse their power. Unfortunately, I can't really see the site lasting very long without at least someone here to do damage control in the event that, say, the SWSH doesn't activate like it should, or monthly special explorations don't roll over a the end of the month like they should, or some other game-breaking bug.

Well, whatever happens, I've been here for this long and I still have things to do here, so I'm in it for the long haul~

Posted by: 13akoors Mar 13 2015, 10:55 AM

I haven't played as long as most people have, but I've been here over a year, and play everyday. I hope the site continues to live on. It's one of the best games I've played online. If there's any way I can help out around here, and keep this wonderful site running, I'll be ready and willing to do it.

Posted by: Jenis90 Mar 13 2015, 11:23 AM

April 16 will be six years since I started playing gpx. I hope with all my heart that this site is not deleted, because being here is now a habit that goes on for many years.
If I can do something to help please contact me. I'm Italian, I have a little knowledge of the graphics program Adobe Photoshop and html language. I'm not an expert, but if I can give a help for the site to survive, I will do it gladly. ^_~.gif

Posted by: Bellathea Mar 13 2015, 12:13 PM

Wow, I'm here now for about two weeks, never heard of the site before, but I totally love it.
The community is nice, the idea behind the site is so awesome! I'm thankful that you keep the site open, I'd understand it anyway if you'd shut it down as well. I can't change life circumstances, server costs, changing interests and so on, but I'd only like to say thanks for this awesome site! Actually I thought there are many many users online all the time, I'm active at sites where 20 members online is a lot cat.gif but it's really hard to read that there once were so many more... But in my opinion there will be always new members who will fall in love with this site (like I did) and it would be great if you'd manage to keep the site open!
With love~

May 8th 2015 will mark 5 years of me being on this site. All I can think is, I really hope it's still around for me to get there, and long after! GPX+ has been such an enjoyable little pastime of mine for the past few years, I've always had it open in my browser to check on every couple hours. At the start of each month, checking for Wymsy's 'Month of X' thread has become part of my routine, and it was always exciting to see what new stuff you guys could have come up with. Recently over the past few months, I have been very active here, working on achievements I was never able to get when I first joined, describing and leveling all of my Pokémon, who I will actually be sad to see go.

I understand your decision, Zerx, Jeff and Wymsy. We have all tried things and lost interest - indeed, I have the utmost admiration for your efforts in this site. The fluidity with which it works is, to me, amazing. It doesn't come as a surprise that the site would take up more of your life than you would like.

To be honest, these two announcements (I missed Wymsy's until now) came as a shock to me. I always knew the forums weren't as full as 2 years ago, the site wasn't as busy, but it still never occurred to me that shutting down the site was a possibility, which was probably naive of me.

I think it would be a huge shame to let the site go like this. Running it and paying for it, these are costs you shouldn't have to bare if you don't want to, but I think if something can be done to pass this site on to those who continue to be interested in it, you should do it.

Just my two cents. Thanks for all you've done for this community, everyone who's contributed to this site!
Let's see if I can't finish my goals before 3 months are out~

Posted by: Roxi Mar 13 2015, 12:59 PM

This is disheartening and encouraging at the same time... I'm not very active on the forums, but I've been with GPX+ for years now. Back when clicking was hard, haha. I've enjoyed all the time I've spent here and I wouldn't trade it, but I know change is inevitable. I'm glad the site will continue - suspended in time - for at least the moment, and I hope changes can be made to keep things going. If it can't and worse comes to worst, it will be sad, but understandable. No matter what the future holds, I'll be around til the end.

Posted by: Shauntal Mar 13 2015, 02:54 PM

I'm glad that the site will still be up- I mean, I basically never use the forums, but GPX is like my favourite Pokemon site I've ever been on, and I'm on every day for hours upon hours. It would make me so sad to see my pokemon like Amaterasu and Melody to disappear. :c
With that said, though, I'd support whatever is decided upon, even if I might be sobbing in the corner of my room again. blargagh.gif

Posted by: Alicat Mar 13 2015, 03:06 PM

I'm very happy to hear the site is still staying up. I agree with everyone's sentiment that "frozen in time is better than nonexistent." I've made many great friends here, even traveled across Canada and gotten engaged to someone I met on here! (who I'm actually sitting behind right now xD) I've loved contributing to the site however I can, meeting the people I've met, and I would be so heartbroken if GPX disappeared... I know life gets ahead of us, and we stop being able to be on our former frequent websites when that happened. I had to abandon moderating another forum because life caught up to me, but I still come play on GPX almost every day grin.gif

If you need volunteers for judging or art or anything... there's members like myself who would be willing to volunteer our time (: Kinda need an excuse to wean myself off facebook anyways

Posted by: Angel Kaiba Mar 14 2015, 04:47 AM

I would hate to see this site die! I know I haven't been around 6 years to be considered someone "important" but I have enjoyed collecting Pokemon, going on explorations, getting trinkets and so on. I remember when I first started I couldn't be torn away from the site. smugnod.gif Even now I still love getting on every day to see what new things I can find.

Posted by: Bidoof Mar 15 2015, 10:54 AM

Even though I'm not very active and didn't make any friends here, I usually check on this place just to see how things are going. I hope this site doesn't die soon. sad.gif

Posted by: Rocketeer Mar 16 2015, 07:37 AM

I would be sad to see the website go. I hope you can keep it alive, somehow! I've spent a lot of time on here, not so much on the forum but certainly on the main base of GPX.

Posted by: Pizza Guy111 Mar 16 2015, 10:11 AM

While this was a depressing read, I'm at least glad thought was poured into the continuation of the site. I might not be as active as I used to be but it would be sad to see such a large part of my internet travels to shut down.

Posted by: Sgt Xana Mar 20 2015, 12:59 AM

I have no words to properly express my level of disappointment right now. This situation is just disgusting. And don't any of you demonize me for saying it, I'm just saying what each and every one of you are thinking.

Posted by: Vande Mar 20 2015, 01:40 AM

I'm certainly not thinking that...you can have your own opinion, but it isn't right to say that everyone else is thinking it.
I respect their decision and besides...the new staff are in..new stuff is happening. So..um yeah.

Disappointment over what?

Thanks for letting us know, Zerx. This site definitely does mean a lot to a lot of people, and while I haven't been on much (hardly at all) in the past year and a half, GPX+ meant a lot to me for a few years, before that. I'm glad you don't have imminent plans to shut down the site, since it would most definitely cause a lot of people sadness, which I know you don't exactly want to have happen, though it might someday need to be shutdown.

Thank you all for all your hard work over the years, and I'll be checking in to see what's happening here and there.

Posted by: EspeonCastle Apr 2 2015, 03:37 PM

I would really hate to see this site shut down. Even if there wont be any more novelties or pokemon, we should still be able to log on and do things, right? crying.gif

Posted by: Cubone Cuddler Apr 4 2015, 02:54 PM

Thank you for not shutting the site down. I seriously use it for emotional support and, while I know that's not your problem wink.gif, I'm really grateful that the site is continuing.

Posted by: the1stpkmnfan Apr 6 2015, 04:23 PM

I remember signing up for this site almost 5 and a half years ago. And I still find joy in coming to this site, for better or worse (i.e. loosing a chance at getting a rare egg lol). But all in all, I've enjoyed GPX, and I quite enjoyed the Pokemon I've been raising and sheltering in my PCs.

Sure, I may not hold the same, strong connections through other forum members, since I don't use the forum regularly. However, there are some amazing, generous users on this site, and it's like we're all helping each other out mentally.

It's also understandable to see the site shut down in the coming year or so. But, all in all, life has been getting busy for me, and I don't find myself coming back consistently. GPX+ is still in my bookmarks, and I always come back regardless.

Thanks again for the heartfelt words and the ongoing dedication.

Now I feel silly for not registering three years ago when I first heard of this site.

Like the others have said, I'm glad you took the time to explain the behind of your actions and your tentative plans. Even if this "frozen" state turns out to be unsustainable, and handing the site over to someone else isn't an option, that would be perfectly understandable.

I'm amazed by all the love, time and effort you've put into this website and forums, and all the maintenance -- it shows in every aspect of the site.

Posted by: Zap Shinx Apr 9 2015, 06:32 PM

Even though I do go on in spurts, I really do hope that this site stays up, even if there isn't going to be any new content. I really like the Explorations, Site Wide Shiny Hunts, and all the Pokemon here!

I just hope that this site stays up. It is so much fun. nod.gif

Posted by: Breech Loader Apr 17 2015, 11:57 AM

I feel like when blatantly inactive members are removed and the site is on a more reasonable server, the site can indeed stay open, and heck, maybe grow again. After all, Pokemon isn't a franchise that's going to fail easily.

Posted by: Nayelianne Apr 22 2015, 10:54 PM

Aw, so sad to hear about the possibility of the site closing down in the future. ;_; I confess I haven't been as active as I once were in the past, but the site means so much to me still. I really hope things get sorted out. Thank you for keeping the site up so far. <3

Posted by: Haxorus Apr 22 2015, 11:07 PM

You guys have made such a wonderful service. This is and will always be my favourite egg/critter adoption site, and my favourite Pokemon fansite. All of you--the founding trio, and the staff you've hired--deserve several rounds of applause, for you've done a bloody good job.

This site is very special to me, holds lots of great memories to me. Recently, it's been of a huge emotional help as I've gone through stress. Warming eggs and feeding Pokemon on my phone while in the outside really helps me with my social anxiety.

I'm proud to have seen it in its early stages, and honestly? Knowing your coding capabilities, seeing what FETO was like, I had a feeling it was going to be /huge/. I was inactive for a time and then I came back. And all of the new stuff you've implemented? It's fantastic. I'm taking User Experience Design, and if I was to write a report on a site that I think has great design in those aspects, it would be GPX+.

I'm so glad that you're making an effort to keep everything alive, while not hindering your own non-site goals. <3 I know you're not asking for donations but I'll gladly contribute more funds too.

Thank you so much for an awesome site and service, and thank you as well for keeping it open. love.gif

I didn't play gpxplus for about 2 years. Now I play back and find that the game is getting more and more interesting. I love pokemon and I hope I can travel with pokemon's world until the end of my day. Thank all guys so much.
