Global PokédeX Plus Forums _ PANE Discussion _ Community Project: Achievement system
Posted by: 2gamers Dec 27 2010, 11:43 PM
A while back, Kamaitachi proposed an achievement system, where players can earn fun titles throughout their roleplay experience. Much like similar systems on the PS3 and Xbox 360, these achievements won't give you much more than a bunch of titles. You would show these achievements off in your Current Level post.
After talking and forgetting the project existed, we decided to go forward with the system. Details are a bit sketchy on how we will implement this, but it will likely be a mix of honor system and mod permission.
Please comment on what you think and add your own achievements you think should be added.
NOTE: All of the titles below belong to Kamaitachi (unless otherwise noted). I merely changed a few names and requirements.

Being a total creeper avid Ghost-type appreciation activist, I would like to add a title to the Team Composition section.
Ghost Whisperer: Character has a team of six pokemon sharing the "Ghost" Type (aka Casper)
I couldn't think of a punny name.

*shrugs* It kinda just popped into my head xD (I hope you all get why I titled it CHUCK Norris...)

Good achievement, but perhaps a name change is needed. I'm thinking "Wheelchair Accessible".
The others are great

Haha, I like it! Also, so as not to spam, I thought of another:
Boy/Girl Crazy= Character's poke'mon are all the same gender. (I'm terrible at thinking up names, but the ideas are alright. xD)

Posted by: Douken Sota Dec 31 2010, 02:14 AM
We also need some easier one for Draws, where they both knock each other out without one fulling a kamikaze move.
Oh, and also something for a full team that can explode or self destruct (or any move that costs them their lives)
Posted by: Proby Dec 31 2010, 06:22 AM

Here's mine:
KYM Researcher: Mention 5 http://knowyourmeme.com/ within a single RP
No. We don't need to do that, it breaks a lot of the immersion (some of those internet memes wouldn't even exist in pokemon world), and... most of the memes are plain annoying.
QUOTE(NES2 @ Jan 22 2011, 08:59 PM)
TV Troper: Have one of your RPs adhere to five or more http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/HomePage
Lolcats: Have a party composed of Cat Pokemon
IMMA FIRIN MAH LAZOR: Have a Pokemon use Hyper Beam five times throughout an RP
COME AT ME BRO: Instigate a fight during an RP
The rest of these fall under the "Achievements for the sake of achievements". As much as I like TV Tropes, I don't want people *trying( to put tropes in their RPs. They will do so naturally. Trying makes people put stuff in that doesn't fit.
Hyper Beam is a massive attack, and I don't want it used frivolously or all the time. If you're using it that often (5 in one RP is excessive as it is), you're leaving your pokemon open for a beatdown.
In short, these really don't need to be achievements. The last one, especially.. that would be done in one or two roleplays regardless. Battling is mostly what we do...

And to accommodate the new art trend:
Mona Lisa - Character has a portrait
(See sig for portrait examples)

Two profile titles:
Tomboy - Female character has a commonplace personality trait of a male.
Ackward Drama Queen - Male character has a commonplace personality trait of a female.

Most of the achievements for Character are for personality quirks, rather than personality archetypes. I think the two you proposed are almost too broad, and pretty commonplace to boot. I feel like I've read a lot of profiles where the girl is a tomboy. (And Darryn Kellor is the closest thing to a feminine guy, and he's really not that feminine.)
Also, I feel like Tomboy and Awkward Drama Queen are actually fairly negative terms for stereotypes, rather than personality distinctions.
Anyone, is of course, free to disprove me.

Alright, PANE RPers. Kamaitachi was tryign to come up with an achievement name for our summer event. What resulted was a long list of puns you see below. Because he's cool like that, Kamai also included path specific achievements. I don't believe we decided on a specific names, so I went ahead and posted it here for you guys to point and laugh at Kamai pick (or suggest your own names).
PS: I'm partial to "Member of the Regiment"
QUOTE(Kamaitachi @ Oct 11 2011, 11:00 PM)
I've been trying to think of a good name for the achievement. As you may have noticed, my list-making OCD is wonderful, but does not afford me much in terms of names for things.
So, without further ado, I present to you my ideas:
QUOTE(Kam tries. He does.)
- King's Crown
- Member of the Regiment
- Jungle Fever
- The sky fell down...but it got better
- Frozen, Steely, Rocky Resolve
- Ayers, Ironsides and Icicles?
- PokeCon Hero
Or maybe Path-specific achievements, for coolness' sake?
QUOTE(Kam tries again. He really tries.)
Team Rock- Earth Rumble Six (Avatar the Last Airbender!)
- School of Rock (Eponymous)
- Rockabilly
- Dwayne Johnson
- Team Rock-it
- Taken for Granite
- Rock your socks off
- Rocktarded
- Paper, Scissors...Rock!
- Stop, Rock and Roll!
Team Ice:- Frosty the Snowman
- Sub Zero
- The Iceman Cometh
- Cocytus Cocktailer
- Kristi Yamaguchi (Brian Boitano if you're male?)
- Ice to know you! (BLECH HORRIBLE!)
- Paper, Scissors...ICE!?
- Ice-Capades
- PANE on Ice
- PANE in the Ice (Teehee)
- Foreigner (Their song is "Cold as Ice"
Team Steel:- Colossus
- Steel-y Dan
- Pittsburgh Steeler
- Steel Magnolia
- Iron Avenger!
- Magneto, Master of Magnetism
- Titanium Tetradhedron Traverser
- Cube
- Iron Maiden
- Ore am I forgetting something? (BLECH!!!!! Shoot me.)
- Metal Mettle
*breaks down into tears* Soooo many bad puns!

Several ideas:
Sanded Down To Bone: Character has spent one whole RP in Aridana Town and/or surrounding area.
Back To The Future: Character has spent one whole RP in Daioh and/or surrounding area.
Among The Hidden: Character has spent one whole RP in Daas and/or surrounding area.
Among The Hidden The Sequel: Character has spent one whole RP in Jillius and/or surrounding area.
Cliffhanger... Over The Ocean: Character has spent one whole RP in Daigake and/or surrounding area.
I've just started on these and will work on the rest.

I was talking to Flying Mew, and we came up with Regineration (playing off Generation... not sure if it worked though)

I like Jungle Fever. I really do. Regineration sounds kinda awesome too.
For the individual ones, I like these:
-School of Rock
-Ice Age
-Iron Man

@Royal Summoner Kitten:
I'm not a fan of giving away an achievement for the sake of a single rp. I think it would be more interesting for those if, say, a character spent five or ten whole roleplays in the surrounding areas. That would be more of an achievement, rather than a gimme.
@Douken and Flying Mew:
While cool, I tilted my head thinking: "What did this have to do with regeneration? PokeCon got destroyed, not rebuilt."

Even then, one achievement could easily cover all of those, like:
Squatter: Character has spent five or more RPs in one city/area

Well, if it plays off of "generation", Regineration would be interpreted as "Regi Generation", similar to terms like Generation X.

Well, then why don't we also have a counter achievement?
Vagabond: Character has spent five or more RPs moving from cit to city and/or moving back and forth between two or more cities constantly.

Maybe Nomad would be a better term?

Here's the thing: Trainers are always on the move. They don't sit around in a single city waiting for gym leaders to come to them. It feels like yet another gve-away achievement.
When I think about an achievement, I think about things that give you a challenge to do/complete
Against the odds: Win using a Pokemon in a gym battle that has a 4X weakness against the opponent.
That is a bigger challenge to deal with.
Posted by: Royal Summoner Kitten Nov 8 2011, 07:18 PM
Jackel Hyde: Character seemingly has two personalities that they switch between at random times. (AKA Bipolar Guy/Girl)
Posted by: Pinsir Dec 4 2011, 10:03 PM
Fresh Prince - Character moves to Furoh after an incident in there original region.
Robin Hood - Character stole something back from a bad guy.

I was looking through achievements, and the very last one made me think. If there's one for Vonmoto, why not one for Starfall Field? Just a thought, if this is silly or has been considered already, let me know.
Star's a Shining: Character was present at the end of Starfall Field.
Sionara: Character has left/disappeared in the middle of a RP itleast once.

We never did settle on one though...

Posted by: Douken Sota Jan 25 2012, 11:27 PM
Home-town Victor: Character wins a Gym, Contest, or Pokeathelon event if he/she is from Furoh and in their birth town.
