You've probably watched the original series, and if not, I highly recommend you do.

The original cartoon anime series was about a young and energetic, [one hundred and] 12 year old young Airbender named Aang, (the last of his kind) who was found in an iceberg after 100 years in the Southern Water tribe by Katara, a young Waterbender and the last or her kind in the South Pole, and Sokka, a sarcastic and meat-loving 15-year old who in the beginning, a bit sexist towards women, saying that they can't do anything a man can.
As a group, they go through a fun and dangerous adventure to have Aang learn to "bend" the 4 elements as they journey through the Northern Water tribe, Earth Kingdom, and Fire Nation (in that order). Aang learns about The War and the Fire Nation; The War was started by a horrible Fire Nation tyrant named Sozin a hundred years ago in order to conquer all the other nations for power, and to "rebuild from the ashes a new nation." The Fire Nation and Fire Lord Ozai are the main antagonists in the series.
The entire anime series was a big success, and I was personally sad that it ended, but I'm very grateful that the creators made a spin off series. It takes place 70 years after the end of the War, and the new Avatar, Korra, is now 16 and must learn Airbending in the United Republic in order to complete her destiny. She faces many obstacles, sch as Amon, the leader of a group of people who use chi-blocking and hate the idea of bending elements. The first two episodes can be viewed here.

DISCUSS.

I'm looking forward to the new show. I can't wait to see what happened to the old cast of characters. And it looks interesting from the bits and pieces we've seen.

I could do without all the dumb shipping drama though. I'm not looking forward to 'Zutara 2.0' especially.

Well considering they're both long dead by now, I don't think you'll have to worry about that. Now you'll need to worry about entirely new pairings! Just don't let it bother you...there will always be people who make drama over shipping in shows they have no control of. Just let them have their little fantasies and ignore it.

Anyway, Avatar: The Last Airbender is in my top 3 favorite tv shows, cartoons, AND anime. It's also been an enormous influence and inspiration for me, and I own the whole series on DVD. Could not recommend it higher.

That being said, I am retardedly excited for Legend of Korra. For one thing, I didn't see how they could even make a sequel to the first series and they have more than impressed me so far. The only thing I'm worried about is the chemistry between the main characters maybe being too similar to the first series (based solely on the comic relief guy, I guess). But they are older characters, and I hope they are presented as such.

Nothing but excitement from me. Can't wait to see it.

Hmm... So Aang is dead... Interesting. And she's a water-bender. With a polar bear. And judging by the trailer, it looks a lot more serious then the original series. And better. I want to watch it.

What the hell?

Aang is dead?

Holy fuck I though that Kitara and him would have babies and repopulate the Air-Bender population.

Bumping this up, the first two episodes could be watched here wink.gif

I personally found it as a great introduction, and I can't wait to see who Amon really is. Son of Azula, possibly?

I watched the episodes yesterday and they were amazing! I can't wait until the series starts and I can finally get my Korra fix. The titular character was adorable and her personality was overall, everything I wanted her to be. Tenzin is probably going to be my favorite though, I can feel it.

Ohh...my stepbrother is a huge Avatar fan! I wonder if he knows about it? Anyway I loved the first series so I'm willing to give this a try, but like Sam (starships) said it won't feel the same.

I only use:

Yeah, It's a real bummer it is over. I do like the way they ended it though.

I am hoping that we will eventually get another series set in the same universe. I'd be more interested in one of the older Avatars (like Kyoshi) but there are still a lot of unanswered questions about the time period between TLA and LoK, so they could theoretically do something in that time period and it would be interesting as well.

I loved the Legend of Korra I thought ATLA was great and I'm so happy we got to see more of the ATLA universe. I think it's great how the show touched on some really difficult subjects especially later on in the series.
