People who possess child pornography, but not have any involvement with child abuse: They need help. They should go to jail for a bit (maximum 6 months) but be given lots of counselling. They should be moved to a new area if they pass an assessement of sorts after counselling, and have their internet use monitered for 6 months. If they do not pass they stay in jail for another 6 months maximum, repeat ad nauseum. It is not neccessary to tell people about this, but it will be on their criminal record. They should also be banned from working with children or vunerable people.
People who have abused/raped children, or been involved in it: They should go to jail (maximum 10 years), for much longer, and also be offered counselling. They must then pass an assessement of sorts. If they don't they will serve 1 year more jail time with counselling, repeat ad nauseum. They should be moved to a new area and have their internet use monitored for 12 months (a year), and people should be aware of their past. The people in the new area of the offending victim should be given information about pedophiles and counselling if they wish. The offending person should also attend counselling and monitoring once a month, for 2 years. They should also be banned from working with children or vunerable people. If they ever offend again, they will have double the maximum jail time (20 years), and on release be moved to another area, and have their internet monitored for 5 years and go to counselling once a week for 2 years. The people in the area should be told of the pedophile's status and be given information and counselling if they wish. They need help, not extreme punishment. i think they should be put in jail forever , especially if they kill someone . they will just do it again.

It is just disgusting and wrong. They should go to jail for life. What they're doing to pedophiles now is what the do to people in the Witness Protection Program. They're not witnesses/victims, they're the criminal.
