We all know who the old man is. He's the one in Viridian City who apparently has the power to summon Lv 5 Weedle at will and catch them on his first try without even sending out a pokemon to weaken it! Did you ever ask yourself why he could do that? Did you ever think it was shady? Well, there's an obvious explanation. That Weedle? It's not wild. It clearly belongs to the old man, but he has it PRETEND to be wild. Why else would it always be "caught" at full health without fail every time? It's always the same thing, no matter how many times you ask him to do it. This also explains why he always has 50 poke balls. He's been using the same one every time! He's always used the same poke ball to "catch" the same Weedle over and over. There can be no other explanation. It's all a conspiracy to make people believe he's an expert at catching pokemon!
So there you have it. Discuss. -------------------- |

Awesome theory! Now all he needs to do is start charging trainers for catching lessons and he'll be set for life. XD

Weedle has a perfect capture rate, aka 255. It can be caught at full health with a Poké Ball, no matter the circumstances. It'd be the same even if it were a Caterpie.
Also he probably DID charge Trainers in his younger days; how do you think he was able to afford all those Poké Balls? He just spends day after day catching Weedle. I wonder if he releases them... -------------------- |

Have you ever failed to capture a weedle? I worry about your ability to catch pokemon if you have.
I'd say he just lives in a weedle infested area and gets paid to catch them so they don't invade the rest of the town. -------------------- |

And in Yellow version he encountered a Rattata, and failed to catch it. It must have been a REAL wild pokemon lol

Have you ever failed to capture a weedle? I worry about your ability to catch pokemon if you have. I'd say he just lives in a weedle infested area and gets paid to catch them so they don't invade the rest of the town. Um how can pokemon catching ability even exist let alone a capture being based on it when all you do is press a button? Especially in the case of a pathetic pokemon like Weedle, Caterpie and Magikarp where you don't even need to fight it. That's definitely pure luck or catch rate programming. Now as for the Old Man's weedle appearing in a city. THAT is a bit strange, for a weedle at least. A bird pokemon I can make more sense of. Birds are everywhere, cities, forests, countrysides etc. |

I can see how you think this.
Maybe he trained a wild one to be caught without a stuggle? |

This is a well thought out theory. It fails to mention that RBY were pretty insane games when it came to logic but it's still a well thought out theory.

I just restarted my old Yellow tonight and I totally forgot here it's a Rattata and he misses it. Then says he must be losing his touch and needs to get more pokeballs from the mart.

He is obviously building an army of Weedle. Think about it, it's not hard to train them, and they'll be Beedrills in no time what so ever. If anything we should be expecting to see him soon with his massive army of Beedrills intending to take over the entire world. He clearly has the number game working in his favor, he probably has a billion Beedrills at his disposal, with most of them breeding more Weedles.
It'll be a warm sunny day when the sky turns dark. The confused citizens look up and see a giant black cloud covering the entire sky, the sun is blocked completely. You'll see them, the Beedrills flying in formation with that old man riding Beedrill-back into battle. Succumb to it friends, we let him grow too powerful and there's no stopping them. -------------------- |

This is the most epic post I have seen ever. I won't be able to look at the game the same way again. |

Only played Yellow, which is the version where he may or may not catch the wild Rattata when you ask him to demonstrate.
