What is your opinion on this? I used T-tar for quite a bit of time during the little Advance I played and he was indeed nuts then, Base 600 and all. But now with this Sandstorm bonus, I feel as though he has become more powerful than any of the other Base 600's.
First of all, Tyranitar can Dance, and when he Dances his attack goes through the roof. Now he still won't be able to outspeed quite a few things, but he is still absurdly powerful. His ability to Taunt makes this only better. He is also a deadly wearer of the CB and an excellent sub Puncher, with the ability to hit 404 HP, thus making 101 subs. Sorry Blissy, no Toss 4 u. You've also of course heard about the Tyrani-boah, whose usefulness has seemed to dwindle. Now all of these were at least border line busted. Sandstream was already a nuts ability, killing any Endure tactics or any bellyzard-esque tactics you had in store and also the ability to nullify Leftovers recovery. Now with this new bonus of 1.5x to Special Defense, he becomes even more of a beast. It used to be that the same Beamers and Surfers you had for the other Base 600's (excluding Metagross, of course, for whom you most likely had a Fire/EQer) could deal with Tyranitar. However. with this new boost it seems harder and harder. Not to mention his Base stats are now officially through the roof. Let's look at them: Hp 100 Atk 134 Def 110 Sp Atk 95 Sp Def 100 Spd 61 Total Base stats: 600 (of course) Now add in that Sandstream bonus and you get total base stats at 650. This is nearly as high as Groudon, who essentially serves the same purposes and 30 points away from Mewtwo. Now I don't know the standard amount of Base stats a Pokemon needs to get a b7, but Tyranitar is now off the wall, his only counters being strong Fighting or Bug attacks. I feel like this over centralizes to meta game a bit, making every team essentially having to use something like Breloom or Heracross on every team they make. Then again, this is just my theory as the meta hasn't properly shown itself yet. Opinions? -------------------- Porygon-Z ish mine |

A good Earthquake or two could take down Tyranitar too, you know. It is also weak against Steel type moves. Besides, it's not as if the Sandstorm cannot be stopped at all. You can always send out a Pokemon to change the weather, hopefully to your advantage. All Pokemon have their advantages and disadvantages, you must find a way to nullify their advantages and then attack them with their disadvantages. That's basically the point of battling as a whole. Try to outwit your foe and come out the victor. Tyranitar is hardly unstoppable if your team is balanced and you make the right moves.

*Waits for Pyramid to pop in with his/her argument about evasion moves while quoting MT's whole post*
Anyway, I really don't think this is a huge issue. To be honest, almost every Shoddy Battle team switches one in on my Megayanma, only to be arseraeped by a STAB Bug Buzz. Many quality pokemon can counter a Tyranitar, although the Sandstorm boost certainly wasn't neccesary. Aeroy -------------------- That is a really, really bad sig; new one to come soon.

Is the Sandstorm boost limited to those with Sand Steam or all no-damagers from it?
Also, Aeroy, what are you expecting me to say? That evasion once again can be used to turn the tables when the odds are against you? -------------------- |

All Rock types get the boost.
Also, I expected you to use this Besides, it's not as if the Sandstorm cannot be stopped at all. You can always send out a Pokemon to change the weather, hopefully to your advantage. Tyranitar is hardly unstoppable if your team is balanced and you make the right moves. part. Ex. Miracle Eye/Foresight/Haze=Weater changing and 'The right moves' = Aura Sphere, Shock Wave, etc. Sorry if you took it as an insult. I know, I know, sarcasm+internets=doesn't work. I would hardly consider him an Uber, hes too easy to kill. Now, unless you are amazing on predicting hes not the type to switch in on(on most occaisons). But there are a too many things to counter and OHKO/2HKO him. I can name a few.
-Infernape -Lucario -Weavile w/ Focus Sash & Focus Sash -Yanmega -Ninjask -Swampert -Swords Dance Salamence -------------------- |I claim Blaziken| |

Ninjask can 2HKO Tyranitar? I don't think so...
Also, Mence doesnt get Swords Dance, and none of those counter it after a dragon dance except Focus Sash/BrickBreak Weavile and Focus Sash Megayanma EDIT: Thanks BD -------------------- That is a really, really bad sig; new one to come soon.

SD X-Scissor from Ninjask could 2HKO Tyranitar. If no SD, then maybe a 3HKO.

The SDef boost only saves it from shit that wouldnt kill anyway like Starmie surf and TTar has enough weaknesses to be manageable anyway.
Also it doesn't boost the base stat, it boosts the actual stat so it would be more like around 120 pr 130ish. Have you seen the warstory where someone tried to use TTar as a Special wall? It's not that big of a deal considering ttar is dealt with by mostly physical pokemon anyway. Also you forgot that breloom isnt that great of a ttar counter because his defense sucks and he gets like 2hkoed by CB stone edge. I would say gliscor/bronzong or things like that do better against ttar. Rhyperior does pretty decent too even though earthquake is annoying. -------------------- I use Wi-fi but my pokemon are hacked, but have things within the field of legality in the game. I also have shoddy battle and I'm waiting for competitor.
Also I claimed Vaporeon. |

Lucario also has 4x resist to both of TTar's STAB attacks. TTars are threatening, but aren't invincible.

Lucario gets raped by earthquake and focus punch.
If you put down anything that can OHKO ttar as a counter then you would have a long ass list except not everything can switch in safely. Lucario can switch in on cb crunch or stone edge but earthquake really sucks. -------------------- I use Wi-fi but my pokemon are hacked, but have things within the field of legality in the game. The much more defensive breloom running the likes of max hp / def with +def that are showing up are 4hko'd by Stone Edge or something.
It's really no big deal. A boost to it's special defence is not helping it beat the likes of Hitmontop and any other generic sturdy fighter in any shape or form. |
