Apperance: He has always stood as one of them over developed guys. At the age of 10 he was nearing 6ft. That has slown down since then and he is currently at around 6ft3 and with his medium build he can create a tense atmosphere when he enters a room. Most people expect him to be rather unsociable but he is quite the opposite, often talking to people for hours on end.

His hair is to him a signal of his intent. He prefers to have medium length bangs in order to keep his forehead concealed at all times. He can often spend a long time making sure his hair looks good enough. He also has a level of thick stubble which he likes to keep perfectly sized at all times.

Bernie's skin is always slightly browned from the time that he spends in the sun aswell as the amount of times he has been burnt whilst working. He see's this as no disadvantage because to him he see's it as a perfect way to hide his freckles.

His eye's are a dark green colour, they are often focused in on a certain area when he is looking around in order to analyse the area properly. He always wears a pair of black tinted glasses in order to add more "secrecy" to himself.

Bernie has always been one to dress in a very relaxed and almost slack clothes. He prefers to wear "comfortable" clothes which still allow him to move about freely in order to keep himself fit and healthy. His normal attire consist's of :

• A blue jumper with the symbol of the martial arts gym he used to train at.
• A pair of baggy joggin bottoms which he switches for a pair of black 3/4 length shorts if it's to warm.
• A plain white top with his name on the back with his favourite number 33.
• His either wears a pair of white trainers or some dark brown boots for if he is climbing.

Personality: Bernie is a very confident person who is full of life and inspiration. He is a very well educated person who can sometimes begin to think that he knows best when reallly he doesn't. Bernie always has his notepad handy so he can record the pokemon he sees and sometimes he sketches the pokemon. He is always trying to top himself and do something better each day. He is very hard working and rarely says no to trying something new same can be said about his battle style. He normally shows 3 emotions Happiness, Anger and fear. He trys not to show much fear as he sees it as a sign of weakness he trains his pokemon to learn how to not give away and weaknesses and how to stay concentrated at all times. In battle he prefers to keep changing it up and never sticks to a stratagy this makes him a lot more unpredictable. He commands his pokemon with elegance whilst trying to encourage them not to give up. He sometimes trys to bring in some contest like combinations with his pokemon during battle.

When he is not battling Bernie also looks to work on his body which he see's as his own temple. He can sometimes spend more time training himself than he does his pokemon. He has always been into the idea of being able to fend for yourself and does often prefer to look for food instead of buying some from a store.

He also cannot stand those who try and beat there pokemon. Bernie will often jump in and stop someone if they are even trying to harm a pokemon slightly. He has often got himself into fights because of this but with his martial arts experience it is very often that he hold his own and makes the other person look stupid and weak. He also conducts this idea into the way his pokemon fight.

Background: Bernie was born to Marko and Louisa Bengallio in Lillycove City Hoenn. His father worked as the vice-chairman at the local factory. Once the company expanded and it opened it's new factory in Petropolis he began to go over there to stay for months at a time. This meant that Bernie rarely got to see his Father and he and his older brother were left to look after there mother.

Up until his 10th birthday he would spend most of his days out on the beach playing with friends and also began to become very accustomed to the heat. One day when he was out with his older brother Steven they noticed a group of team Aqua's thugs who were trying to knock out a seel by throwing stones at it. His brother tried to convince him they should just got and get Luka, there fathers Salamence and then get the goons. Bernie refused and then used his quick thinking to grab a wooden pole and charge at them. He was quickly stopped but he managed to buy enough time for the baby seel to escape. The team Aqua members where then chased by two police officers before they escaped. Since then he has made sure to stop any type of violence towards pokemon.

When he turned 13 he suddenly became more aware of the ways in which he can keep himself fit and healthy. With his brother now moved to Johto in order to become an assistant to Proffesor Oak and his father no longer around for months at end he began to go running twice a day and then spend the other time in the gym. He claimed top of the class on his first testing and quickly began to become a known name in the town. He slowly began to become more and more of an isolated person as his obbsession took up most of his life. It wasn't until he was given his first pokemon that he realized what he had been doing.

His mother decided that he needed a new companion so for his 15th birthday she managed to get him a baby Torchic that he could play with instead of burrowing himself in working out. At first he continued to ignore his new friend until it fell ill. Very worried and confused he rushed him to the poke centre. The nurse told him about a common problem that young pokemon can have if they are not shown much love and care. He couldn't believe himself and quick began to include his Torchic in his workout routines. The two bonded together quickly and because of this his Torchic has never looked unhappy or ill.

When he turned 19 he began to plan his future. He wanted to leave Lillycover in order to go and see his father who he hadn't seen or heard from in 2 years. He always had the idea that he has ran away with someone but his mother refused to accept that. Two weeks before Bernie was to leave for Furoh his mother moved to Johto in order to live with Steven who had recently opened his own Pokemon ranch. He was then left to pack for the journey himself, he found this very boring and decided to pack the bare essentials and spend his last 2 weeks working out as much as he could ready for his big adeventure.

The day arrived he was all set to leave and then he noticed there was mail, he knew he couldn't leave it unchecked. There was a letter addressed to him which read.

Dear Son

I have left you two pokeballs at the poke centre. I would like to wish you good luck in trying to find your father. Last thing i heard about him was he said he was going to be working on the floating island. Hope that helps.

When he arrived at the poke centre the nurse showed him the two pokeballs. She said something about one of them being his brother's old pokemon and the other was a new one who had recently been caught. He took them thanked the lady and quickly ran for his Boat which would take him to find his father. Once he was all sorted out on the boat he decided to open the pokeballs. In the first one was his brothers old Totodile who was happy to see him, jumping about with enjoyment. He then opened the second pokeball. His eyes filled with excitement as he could see that it was his favourite pokemon a little Starly. He rang his mother to thank her before his boat landed at Port Barley.
