Coolios, time to open Paint.NET and have some fun with this. Already have an idea in mind watch it go over 128 colours rofl.

My first analysis came back with 907 colors after I had hand counted only 8 or 9. XD
I got it down to 128 without losing quality, which is a first for one of these contests I've entered. -------------------- |

This may have been answered in a previous question but just in case it's a different thing, can we redraw the template as long as the template's still the same? As in, can I go over it in another program so that the lines look more like a drawing than pixel art? Or is this pixel art only?
EDIT: eg like this: This post has been edited by Joltik: Aug 1 2013, 03:07 PM -------------------- |

I have a quick question, i read the question regarding going over the frame a bit, but could we not show the frame at all, aslong as the green part is still visible? I'm just thinking of a way to make my design look right with a black outline but even thinning the outline looks a bit weird.

As in, can I go over it in another program so that the lines look more like a drawing than pixel art? Or is this pixel art only? EDIT: eg like this: No, the outline needs to stay as pixels. With changing the outline like that you risk not having the same canvas size (or proportions according to everybody else's entries) and having the edges end up looking odd if you go over 128 colours and need to decrease the amount of colours. I can already see in your example that it isn't touching at all edges like the template is. I have a quick question, i read the question regarding going over the frame a bit, but could we not show the frame at all, aslong as the green part is still visible? I'm just thinking of a way to make my design look right with a black outline but even thinning the outline looks a bit weird. If you keep in mind what I said in response to the question above you, you could if you were very careful but I advise against completely getting rid of the outline. If you don't have a proper outline, your entry may not look very good against some peoples' site skins. And you're free to change the colour of the outline all you want. -------------------- Overtaken by Net & Zodi on that track!

Started with 855 colours.. now down to 393 :/ this is proving more and more difficult! Dammit I wish there was a way to change X colours into Y colours.
EDIT: Managed to get it down to 92 colours somehow.. yay! This is gonna be fun.. I can't wait to see all the entries! Mine's totally.. busy but oh well. I'm happy with it that's all that matters. Probably won't get far but who knows c: This post has been edited by Samoo: Aug 3 2013, 06:16 AM -------------------- Don't forget to love yourself. i already have mine done but the fact we cant go for a top down perspective kinda makes it hard to make a kite
EDIT--if our design dosent get approved the first time are we allowed to resubmit something different or is it a one shot thing? This post has been edited by nokrow889: Aug 1 2013, 07:11 PM -------------------- |

Good luck to all competing, can't wait so see the designs. Also, I've never tried anything like this before so what kind of program would any of you suggest for a mac user? I highly suggest Pixen. It's an excellent program for pixel arting, and it contains everything you need such as transparency, layers, etc. That's what I use (unless I use Photoshop, but I don't usually do so for pixel art). Are we allowed to add the kite's string to the design...?
Also, does it have to be Pokémon-themed? Can it involve 'real world'-nature? Another edit: Okay, so I'm really insecure about what will get approved and what will not. ;_; Changing the shape of the kite A BIT is okay, right...? Without changing the size of the image, of course. This post has been edited by PokeNOM NOM NOM: Aug 2 2013, 11:45 AM -------------------- |

Not sure if this has been asked before, but I have a question. Are you allowed to cover up the cross/frame part of the kite by any chance?

Without changing the size of the image, of course. You can add a string. The theme is whatever you want so long as it isn't inappropriate. Changing the shape a bit is fine. Not sure if this has been asked before, but I have a question. Are you allowed to cover up the cross/frame part of the kite by any chance? This depends largely on how exactly you're covering it up. Do you mean eliminating that part of the outline or is it being partially covered by something wrapping around the kite? For the former I would say no, but the latter is fine. You can always PM me the image of your kite if you've been working on it already and want to be extra sure about it. -------------------- Overtaken by Net & Zodi on that track!

I think I FINALLY have a kite that will work then (and at 125 colors too. Almost broke that darned limit trying to shade. ) -------------------- Who needs a fancy signature anyways?

Can the inner frame be "painted", where it is clearly visible, but a different color from black, similar to the colors around it, but different enough to be clearly seen?

I have a question about whether I've distorted mine too much for it to qualify. Can I message you with a link to it for you to confirm?
