1) Are you male or female?
Male

2) How often do you play video games?
Right now I'm busy with gpx plus, and when classes start I'll be busy with work and school, ao I guess anywhere between 1 and 4 hours

2-2) What genre of games do you prefer to play?
RPG's and online FPS's (or TPS's, can't wait for ArmA 3)

2-3) Within this time, how much of this is spent on online games? (if none, skip to 5)
It depends, RPG's I play offline, although TESO is coming out so that will change, but I will say 60%

3) Within online games, do you prefer to choose a character based on your gender, or the opposite gender, and why? (if you only play as male, skip to question 4)
I usually do it like this, At first I choose a male and try to make it like myself IRL, but if it's a second playthrough or if I'm just trying to have some fun, I'll go with anything, different gender, different looks, different personalities, just experiment with it

3-2) When playing as a female, do you use your characters gender to try to get freebies from other players?
Yes if it's a singleplayer game, no if it's online

4) When playing online games, do you treat female characters differently to male characters? If so, then why? (anywhere from giving them freebies to killing them for playing a 'guys game'. This includes being kinder to new players)
Nope

4-2) What is your general response to females in games that try to use their gender or sexuality for items/equipment/money?

Whatever, it's just a game, and anyone who falls for it, it's his/her problem

5) What is your general thought when hearing the term 'Girl Gamer' or 'Gamer Girl'?
I don't know man, it's weird, why am I then not called a guy gamer? It's just something someone came up with and it stuck...

6) How many female gamers do you know? (if 0, skip to question 7)
4

6-2) Of the female gamers you know, including yourself if you are a girl, what majority are casual gamers? (social games, iphone games, etc)

Nope, in my case they play LoL pretty intensively

7) Do you think that casual gamers are real gamers, or not?
I think they are not, they are playing games, but PC's and consoles are gaming stations, not phones (in my opinion of course)

8) Do you think there should be a market of games designed for girls only, or should it continue to be a unisex genre?
I don't see why not, but I think it would be pretty hard to make AAA titles for girls... I mean what kind of games would those be?

9) Within games, what is your opinion on the sexualization of female characters? (from skimpy outfits to constant flirting with males (e.g. Mass Effect))
Sometimes it's a bit too much, but there is games that don't focus on that. It might me a marketing scheme (for guy gamers mostly)

9-2) Using the above as an example, what do you think could be done to fix this?
I honestly have no idea, maybe just plainly and simply reducing the sexualization...?

1) Are you male or female? Female~

2) How often do you play video games? On average, 10 hours a week.

2-2) What genre of games do you prefer to play? Fantasy. Strategy. Shoot-em-up.

2-3) Within this time, how much of this is spent on online games? Half of it; 5 hours a week (not including clicking sites like GPX+, if they're considered games)

3) Within online games, do you prefer to choose a character based on your gender, or the opposite gender, and why? Depends on character design. In most games, I play female to put a sense of self into the game. In fighting/fantasy, it depends on the character, what species they are, what design looks most badass. It's a 50/50 situation depending on the game itself.

3-2) When playing as a female, do you use your characters gender to try to get freebies from other players? No.

4) When playing online games, do you treat female characters differently to male characters? If so, then why? No.

4-2) What is your general response to females in games that try to use their gender or sexuality for items/equipment/money? I find it annoying and petty. I really couldn't care what gender the person is on the other end. If you have to use your gender to gain an advantage, you're not exactly any good at the game, no?

5) What is your general thought when hearing the term 'Girl Gamer' or 'Gamer Girl'?
Annoyance. Like before, I couldn't care what gender you are. Your gender doesn't effect how well you can play a game. I don't like women looking for acknowledgement because 'ermegerd there's a woman on a man's game and she's kicking ass'. Nor do I like men looking down on women because of the same reasons. A 'Girl Gamer' is just a 'Gamer' who thinks they're entitled to special treatment.

6) How many female gamers do you know?
14 that I know the genders of. Possibly more.

6-2) Of the female gamers you know, including yourself if you are a girl, what majority are casual gamers?
One, being me. I don't know any casual gamers personally.

7) Do you think that casual gamers are real gamers, or not?
Yes. If you enjoy a game, whether it's MMORPG or single player, it doesn't matter.

8) Do you think there should be a market of games designed for girls only, or should it continue to be a unisex genre?
They're hardly 'Unisex'. Majority of online games are directed at men. A lot of adds include half naked women. But, just because it's directed at men, doesn't mean it wont catch female attention. Why not? Just because it's directed at women, doesn't mean it wont attract men too.

9) Within games, what is your opinion on the sexualization of female characters?
Doesn't bother me. People enjoy it, and it gets them interested in the game. Women do it with male characters too. Though it's not often thrown in our faces like female sexualisation, namely because they're directed at men, there are plenty of male characters running around toned and topless. If people enjoy that, I don't really care. It's not going to effect my game.

9-2) Using the above as an example, what do you think could be done to fix this?
Nothing. There are games out there that promote sexual female characters. And there are games that don't. If you don't like it, you simply don't have to play it. There's nothing to fix.

1) Are you male or female?
Female

2) How often do you play video games?
Not so often than I want. I usually play at my brother's place few times in year, because we live so far from each other and I don't have console of my own. (Student budget... can't just buy one.) At home I use my computer though I don't really like to play with computer. I just don't have anything else.

2-2) What genre of games do you prefer to play?
I prefer to use PS3 and would get one for myself if I just had money. About genre... I don't really know. I like stories so I usually play games with interesting storyline, no matter what genre it is.

2-3) Within this time, how much of this is spent on online games? (if none, skip to 5)
Didn't really understand the question but yeah, at home I sometimes play online games with computer. Few hours in week.

3) Within online games, do you prefer to choose a character based on your gender, or the opposite gender, and why? (if you only play as male, skip to question 4)
I don't really look what gender the character is, instead I choose character based on its looks. As an example, lets say that I like blue color. If there is character with blue clothes and another with red clothes I probably choose the blue one unless I can modify my characters look. In that case I usually go with woman and try to make it look as badass as possible.

3-2) When playing as a female, do you use your characters gender to try to get freebies from other players?
Never. I wan't to work for items and such. It wouldn't be fun if someone would just give everything.

4) When playing online games, do you treat female characters differently to male characters? If so, then why? (anywhere from giving them freebies to killing them for playing a 'guys game'. This includes being kinder to new players)
No, I don't. If I do I haven't noticed it myself. About new players I have to say that I'm kind to all players. Like if another player asks something I'm ready to give answer, no matter if she/he is new or old player.

4-2) What is your general response to females in games that try to use their gender or sexuality for items/equipment/money?
I just ignore them. If somebody else wants to give them free items or something because of their gender it's not like they're going to take something away from me and it's definitely not reason to get offended. Let's just get along shall we?

5) What is your general thought when hearing the term 'Girl Gamer' or 'Gamer Girl'?
In my opinion, people think too much about gender. Instead of thinking how we are different, they should think how we are similar. I'm not offended if someone really wants to define girls as "girl gamer" but why can't we all be just gamers?

6) How many female gamers do you know? (if 0, skip to question 7)
3

6-2) Of the female gamers you know, including yourself if you are a girl, what majority are casual gamers? (social games, iphone games, etc)
Console games and different online games.

7) Do you think that casual gamers are real gamers, or not?
They're playing games but just not so often. I don't see any reason to discount them just because they play less than somebody else. I think the term "real player" is just something made up by small group of players who are trying to be somehow special. It's like saying that you can't be called gamer unless you've played Tekken, but what if you don't like that kind of fighting games?

8) Do you think there should be a market of games designed for girls only, or should it continue to be a unisex genre?
Girls can like "boys games" and boys can like "girls games". I think it's too narrow minded to think that girl can like only this kind of games and boys that just kind of games because people are different. I think games can be art just as well as books, paintings and such so developers should just do something they would enjoy to play. Chances are good that there are countless others who would like to play that kind of game too.

9) Within games, what is your opinion on the sexualization of female characters? (from skimpy outfits to constant flirting with males (e.g. Mass Effect))
Of course it all depend on character. If skimpy personality, flirting and all that is part of her personality I guess it's okay, but if it's clearly just a way to get some more money because boobs, it's pretty annoying.

9-2) Using the above as an example, what do you think could be done to fix this?
Female characters could save their own asses for a change, not be just damsels in distress. Or am I too heretic if I ask for female main characters? I really think that female main character in "boys game" could be as badass as male character.

The Dream Team

1) Are you male or female?
Male

2) How often do you play video games?
Usually daily. I used to play Call of Duty on the weekends, but my stepbro moved out and took his Playstation with him.

2-2) What genre of games do you prefer to play?
First-person shooters, RPG

5) What is your general thought when hearing the term 'Girl Gamer' or 'Gamer Girl'?
"A girl I can play games with? Cool!"

7) Do you think that casual gamers are real gamers, or not?
I think that anyone who enjoys playing video games is a gamer.

8) Do you think there should be a market of games designed for girls only, or should it continue to be a unisex genre?
Keep the unisex. Having a market just for girls is sexist, IMHO.

9) Within games, what is your opinion on the sexualization of female characters? (from skimpy outfits to constant flirting with males (e.g. Mass Effect))
I think sometimes it's okay, but if it takes it too far, then it's a bad thing.

9-2) Using the above as an example, what do you think could be done to fix this?
Develop stronger female characters, like Aki Ross in "Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within".

10) If you have anything else to add, please do so here as it will help the research data.
Being a Halo and Call of Duty fan, I think, at least in multiplayer, players should have the option of having their character be female (already done in Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST, Halo: Reach, Halo 4, and the upcoming Call of Duty: Ghosts, but more games need to have the option).

1) Are you male or female?
Male

2) How often do you play video games?
Eeeh...some would say too much...

2-2) What genre of games do you prefer to play?
Strategy (Mostly real-time strategy), RPG and Casual (Clash of Clans, GPX+, stuff on the side to work on as time goes)

2-3) Within this time, how much of this is spent on online games? (if none, skip to 5)
Anywhere between 25-50% of the time

3) Within online games, do you prefer to choose a character based on your gender, or the opposite gender, and why? (if you only play as male, skip to question 4)
Depends on the character I imagine them to be. I don't have a character to represent myself, they represent themselves.

3-2) When playing as a female, do you use your characters gender to try to get freebies from other players?
No, unless I'm feeling lazy, in which I'll try and get freebies wether or not my character is female. Freebies are freebies.

4) When playing online games, do you treat female characters differently to male characters? If so, then why? (anywhere from giving them freebies to killing them for playing a 'guys game'. This includes being kinder to new players)
No, because I respect that in alot of cases, the girl in question just wants to play the game as anyone else would (Unless she's a genuine attention whore, in which case ignore rather than confront, it's better that way).

4-2) What is your general response to females in games that try to use their gender or sexuality for items/equipment/money?
I ignore them personally, I worked for my stuff and I'm not about to hand it out. Maybe if I had spare stuff I have absolutely no use for I may give a handout to a newbie for a bit of a boost, but I'd do that regardless of gender.

5) What is your general thought when hearing the term 'Girl Gamer' or 'Gamer Girl'?
I'm not phased by it really, since it's mostly the attention seeking type of gamer that refers to themselves as girl gamers (You know, the type that pose for selfies while holding their brothers Xbox controller rather than play the game).

6) How many female gamers do you know? (if 0, skip to question 7)
A couple. Could be a couple secret gamers out there aswell. So who knows. But I know 2 girls that openly play vidya games.

6-2) Of the female gamers you know, including yourself if you are a girl, what majority are casual gamers? (social games, iphone games, etc)
They both play casual games alongside bigger console games.

7) Do you think that casual gamers are real gamers, or not?
Well, they're playing the games, so I guess they're gamers to some extent. Light Gamers, maybe?

8) Do you think there should be a market of games designed for girls only, or should it continue to be a unisex genre?
It should stay unisex. Making games for the solemn purpose of them being for a certain gender will just further the gap between male and female gamers. Fair enough if a game ends up appealing to girls more than boys, but if all the developer has in mind is just 'make a game for girls', then it wont turn out well.

9) Within games, what is your opinion on the sexualization of female characters? (from skimpy outfits to constant flirting with males (e.g. Mass Effect))
Well, it is pretty overused. I gotta say it's fair enough if that's genuinely what the character is like, but I see why people complain when it's overused.

9-2) Using the above as an example, what do you think could be done to fix this?
I'm honestly not sure, male adolescence is a hard to beat. If there's boobs on it, most males between 14 and 20 will buy it, maybe even older.

10) If you have anything else to add, please do so here as it will help the research data.
I wish I had more to add. I was quite in-depth with my question answers though so I hope they help. It's also good to see someone else going into game design, I'm going to be starting a college course in game design next september hopefully.

1) Are you male or female?
Male

2) How often do you play video games?
Used to be a few hours a day, not much anymore though

2-2) What genre of games do you prefer to play?
Casual games (Animal Crossing, Pokemon) and some action games (LOT: OOT 3D)

2-3) Within this time, how much of this is spent on online games? (if none, skip to 5)
Well if you count online Animal Crossing, I'd say about 50% of it

3) Within online games, do you prefer to choose a character based on your gender, or the opposite gender, and why? (if you only play as male, skip to question 4)
Usually I play as a male, since I am one, but I like the character design of the female X/Y trainer so I'll be choosing her

3-2) When playing as a female, do you use your characters gender to try to get freebies from other players?
No?

4) When playing online games, do you treat female characters differently to male characters? If so, then why? (anywhere from giving them freebies to killing them for playing a 'guys game'. This includes being kinder to new players)
I don't really treat men or women differently. I hate everyone equally. happy.gif

4-2) What is your general response to females in games that try to use their gender or sexuality for items/equipment/money?
Thinking "get it yourself" and rolling my eyes so far they they go out of my head

5) What is your general thought when hearing the term 'Girl Gamer' or 'Gamer Girl'?
It confuses me because there's many definitions. One is the typically described "Gamer girl" who would be the "perfect gamer's girlfriend" or whatever, and the other (and more fitting) definition is just a girl who plays video games.

6) How many female gamers do you know? (if 0, skip to question 7)
Four

6-2) Of the female gamers you know, including yourself if you are a girl, what majority are casual gamers? (social games, iphone games, etc)
Most play Animal Crossing on the 3DS

7) Do you think that casual gamers are real gamers, or not?
A "Gamer" is someone who plays video games regularly. So, yes.

8) Do you think there should be a market of games designed for girls only, or should it continue to be a unisex genre?
Definitely staying unisex. There's already a "girl's only" genre of games and most of them straight up suck.

9) Within games, what is your opinion on the sexualization of female characters? (from skimpy outfits to constant flirting with males (e.g. Mass Effect))
It's something that may be sexist, but it'll continue to happen in the gaming industry as long as the gaming company's target audience is heterosexual men.

9-2) Using the above as an example, what do you think could be done to fix this?
I don't really think it needs to be fixed, since if we start policing how gaming companies choose to make their characters, then they don't have freedom of creativity. If someone really feels that horrible about it, they should make their own gaming company with their own rules.

10) If you have anything else to add, please do so here as it will help the research data.
I don't believe I have anything to add, except good luck with the assignment! ^.^

My All Stars

here you go ^^ :
1) Are you male or female?
female.

2) How often do you play video games?
hm about 6-7 hours.

2-2) What genre of games do you prefer to play?
adventure,RPG,memory(idk >.> ),strategy,action(i think thats it).

2-3) Within this time, how much of this is spent on online games? (if none, skip to 5)
1-5 hours(i guess >.> not really sure XD i dont really keep track of time >_> ).

3) Within online games, do you prefer to choose a character based on your gender, or the opposite gender, and why? (if you only play as male, skip to question 4)
based on my gender.

3-2) When playing as a female, do you use your characters gender to try to get freebies from other players?
no.

4) When playing online games, do you treat female characters differently to male characters? If so, then why? (anywhere from giving them freebies to killing them for playing a 'guys game'. This includes being kinder to new players)
no >_> all characters are the same...unless it comes to me giving them instructions/directions XD .

4-2) What is your general response to females in games that try to use their gender or sexuality for items/equipment/money?
i find it stupid that some females use their gender or sexuality to get free things off of people.. >_> its just wrong....(i dont even do that...)

5) What is your general thought when hearing the term 'Girl Gamer' or 'Gamer Girl'?
i find hearing the term "girl gamer" or "gamer girl" fine...i dont care if i get called a girl gamer..i sometimes call myself that even in front of my friends and others.

6) How many female gamers do you know? (if 0, skip to question 7)
about....10 or more >.>

6-2) Of the female gamers you know, including yourself if you are a girl, what majority are casual gamers? (social games, iphone games, etc)
hm about 5 maybe more.

7) Do you think that casual gamers are real gamers, or not?
hm casual gamers can be real gamers if they get into a game they really enjoy but other than that im not really sure if you would call casual gamers "real gamers."

8) Do you think there should be a market of games designed for girls only, or should it continue to be a unisex genre?
no, because it would be just wrong all games should be made for both genders no just for one gender but both.it makes it fair if all games were created for both female and male gamers.

9) Within games, what is your opinion on the sexualization of female characters? (from skimpy outfits to constant flirting with males (e.g. Mass Effect))
hm well i find it just wrong that some characters (especially the female ones) get these really skimpy outfits when your first start.. >_> its annoying and it can cause male gamers to look at the female characters and try to flirt with that person that is controlling that character. and that can get really irritating when some older guy is trying to flirt with you when you have this skimpy outfit on your character (when you first begin) that is showing way to much. >_>

9-2) Using the above as an example, what do you think could be done to fix this?
well i say that the creators of games should not have skimpy outfits on female characters and make them not show to much instead cover more parts on the female character's bodies.

10) If you have anything else to add, please do so here as it will help the research data.
well nothing really, but this was a well put together survey for people to respond to.

1) Are you male or female?
Female

2) How often do you play video games?
Every day

2-2) What genre of games do you prefer to play?
RPG/Simulation

2-3) Within this time, how much of this is spent on online games? (if none, skip to 5)
8 hours

3) Within online games, do you prefer to choose a character based on your gender, or the opposite gender, and why? (if you only play as male, skip to question 4)
I choose the most attractive to look at, so typically females.

3-2) When playing as a female, do you use your characters gender to try to get freebies from other players?
No, not really.

4) When playing online games, do you treat female characters differently to male characters? If so, then why? (anywhere from giving them freebies to killing them for playing a 'guys game'. This includes being kinder to new players)
Not really, I typically hang out with any gender and/or give them stuff just because I tend to do that a lot.

4-2) What is your general response to females in games that try to use their gender or sexuality for items/equipment/money?
I think its disgusting, because it invokes the idea that girls don't really "game" they just try to use their bodies when 80% of the time a real "gamer" girl will be top scoring with the boys.

5) What is your general thought when hearing the term 'Girl Gamer' or 'Gamer Girl'?
I think its over-used to be a sexual thing.

6) How many female gamers do you know? (if 0, skip to question 7)
7

6-2) Of the female gamers you know, including yourself if you are a girl, what majority are casual gamers? (social games, iphone games, etc)
Uhm I'm not sure, I typically play casual games and get bored easily.

7) Do you think that casual gamers are real gamers, or not?
Yeah sure, I mean what really defines gaming?

8) Do you think there should be a market of games designed for girls only, or should it continue to be a unisex genre?
I believe there should but not make it seem taboo if a boy plays them, or vice versa for boy games.

9) Within games, what is your opinion on the sexualization of female characters? (from skimpy outfits to constant flirting with males (e.g. Mass Effect))
I think its gross really, because it makes us seem like a joke.

9-2) Using the above as an example, what do you think could be done to fix this?
Just making it different styles like how DC universe has it, where you pick your character's style.

10) If you have anything else to add, please do so here as it will help the research data.
Nothing really but Hiii! grin.gif

Censorship Warning (for those who care about usage of technical terms of body parts)

1) Are you male or female?
Female.

2) How often do you play video games?
Probably an average of 12 hours a week (when not in college).

2-2) What genre of games do you prefer to play?
Usually RPGs, simulators, and FPS. It really just depends on whether I think the game looks good or not.

2-3) Within this time, how much of this is spent on online games? (if none, skip to 5)
One hour.

3) Within online games, do you prefer to choose a character based on your gender, or the opposite gender, and why? (if you only play as male, skip to question 4)
I play as a woman unless there is no other choice. I like being able to actually represent the gender that I identify with.

3-2) When playing as a female, do you use your characters gender to try to get freebies from other players?
No. Just because I'm a woman does not mean I deserve special treatment.

4) When playing online games, do you treat female characters differently to male characters? If so, then why? (anywhere from giving them freebies to killing them for playing a 'guys game'. This includes being kinder to new players)
No, because just because they're playing as a woman (whether they are in reality or not) does not mean they deserve special treatment.

4-2) What is your general response to females in games that try to use their gender or sexuality for items/equipment/money?
I think it's incredibly stupid. If you want to play video games, show that you're good at it. Don't use sex appeal to get advanced equipment.

5) What is your general thought when hearing the term 'Girl Gamer' or 'Gamer Girl'?
I think it's dumb! You literally don't see gendering of titles except in the gaming community. Do you hear anything about girl doctors? Girl chefs? Girl anything? Using your gender as part of the title is stupid. We're all just gamers. That's it.

6) How many female gamers do you know? (if 0, skip to question 7)
The majority of my friends that are female are also gamers. I would average that at around probably six.

6-2) Of the female gamers you know, including yourself if you are a girl, what majority are casual gamers? (social games, iphone games, etc)
Probably all of them. I'm not into competitive gaming, and as far as I know, none of my other friends do either. I play video games to relax and have fun, not to compete against other people and get pissed off.

7) Do you think that casual gamers are real gamers, or not?
They're playing video games and enjoying them, so they're gamers.

8) Do you think there should be a market of games designed for girls only, or should it continue to be a unisex genre?
Unisex. Unisex. Unisex.

9) Within games, what is your opinion on the sexualization of female characters? (from skimpy outfits to constant flirting with males (e.g. Mass Effect))
I think it's ridiculous. There's also the excuse that women protagonists don't sell as well, but there are plenty of games with females who are the main character (and ARE NOT sexualized) that do successfully. The Walking Dead Season 2 is successful. Mirror's Edge is successful. Portal 1 and 2 are both successful. None of those women have skimpy outfits or only have the purpose to flirt with the men of the video game.

9-2) Using the above as an example, what do you think could be done to fix this?
Using more female protagonists in a REALISTIC way. Don't give them barely anything to wear. Don't give them huge boobs. Make them look like normal human beings who have their own motives that don't revolve around the male gender or male sex.

10) If you have anything else to add, please do so here as it will help the research data.
I actually don't have anything else to add. I do appreciate the fact that you said regardless of gender identity or sex, females are just as good and deserve just as much attention as male gamers.
I've been playing video games since I was five years old. I'll be damned if I'm told I'm not a gamer because I have a vagina and identify as a female.

Heaven's Wheel

1) Are you male or female?
Female

2) How often do you play video games?
Roughly 10 hours a week, so often enough

2-2) What genre of games do you prefer to play?

RPG or FPS

2-3) Within this time, how much of this is spent on online games? (if none, skip to 5)
About 2.

3) Within online games, do you prefer to choose a character based on your gender, or the opposite gender, and why? (if you only play as male, skip to question 4)
I prefer to stick to my own gender as I see women as being strong and any chance I get to, I will play as them.

3-2) When playing as a female, do you use your characters gender to try to get freebies from other players?
No, that is infuriating beyond measures.

4) When playing online games, do you treat female characters differently to male characters? If so, then why? (anywhere from giving them freebies to killing them for playing a 'guys game'. This includes being kinder to new players)

No I treat them as I do everyone else. I don't care what gender you associate with.

4-2) What is your general response to females in games that try to use their gender or sexuality for items/equipment/money?
Leave.

5) What is your general thought when hearing the term 'Girl Gamer' or 'Gamer Girl'?

That picture of that women with the xbox controller.

6) How many female gamers do you know? (if 0, skip to question 7)

A few.

6-2) Of the female gamers you know, including yourself if you are a girl, what majority are casual gamers? (social games, iphone games, etc)

less than a quarter.

7) Do you think that casual gamers are real gamers, or not?
Just because you don't dedicate your life to it like most of us do, doesn't mean you're not, but it's matter of opinion I guess. So I guess yes to an extent.

8) Do you think there should be a market of games designed for girls only, or should it continue to be a unisex genre?

Unisex.

9) Within games, what is your opinion on the sexualization of female characters? (from skimpy outfits to constant flirting with males (e.g. Mass Effect))

I really don't care. Majority of my favourite characters are scantily dressed or over sexualized.

9-2) Using the above as an example, what do you think could be done to fix this?
I don't know lmao

1) Are you male or female?
Female.

2) How often do you play video games?
Probably at least once a week since I've moved into computer gaming. Sometimes less. Usually depends on how I feel. I do play a game at least once a month though, I can say that much.

2-2) What genre of games do you prefer to play?
RPGs mostly, but I'll play anything if it looks good.

2-3) Within this time, how much of this is spent on online games? (if none, skip to 5)
Depends on the game, but maybe an hour or more.

3) Within online games, do you prefer to choose a character based on your gender, or the opposite gender, and why? (if you only play as male, skip to question 4)
I usually choose female characters if possible, just because I am a female. .-. I very rarely choose a male character.

3-2) When playing as a female, do you use your characters gender to try to get freebies from other players?
Nope. If people give me free stuff though, I'm certainly not gonna reject it. xD

4) When playing online games, do you treat female characters differently to male characters? If so, then why? (anywhere from giving them freebies to killing them for playing a 'guys game'. This includes being kinder to new players)
I'll be kinder to newer players, but I'd do that regardless of gender. Being male or female in a game isn't really that big of a deal to me.

4-2) What is your general response to females in games that try to use their gender or sexuality for items/equipment/money?
I think it's ridiculous and they need to be smacked. That's just really silly, imo, and it just shows that they're there for the attention and don't want to work for things in the game.

5) What is your general thought when hearing the term 'Girl Gamer' or 'Gamer Girl'?
Females that enjoy playing video games. .-.

6) How many female gamers do you know? (if 0, skip to question 7)
At least one that I can think of off the top of my head, maybe more.

6-2) Of the female gamers you know, including yourself if you are a girl, what majority are casual gamers? (social games, iphone games, etc)
All of 'em as far as I'm aware.

7) Do you think that casual gamers are real gamers, or not?
Yes, they are.

8) Do you think there should be a market of games designed for girls only, or should it continue to be a unisex genre?
There already is in a way, I guess, but yeah. Might not be one person's cup of tea, but it could be someone else's. And who know, that might even coerce them to dive further into the magical world of games.

9) Within games, what is your opinion on the sexualization of female characters? (from skimpy outfits to constant flirting with males (e.g. Mass Effect))
Not a huge fan of it, imo, but it's not a total turn off for me either.

9-2) Using the above as an example, what do you think could be done to fix this?
Probably just less stereotyped females in games? I dunno, I sorta view it as a stereotypical female that wears skimpy outfits and is really flirtatious irl. Basically just have more down to earth females that are more relatable to.

10) If you have anything else to add, please do so here as it will help the research data.
Can't think of anything else to add here, so I'll just leave it at that. cat.gif
