I talked about it a little with Jeff and, well, I've created a GTS Plus IRC room for the entire group to hang around with, although with boundaries unlike how crazy chats on AIM and stuff can be. The main rules are common sense and to use common courtesy when speaking (ie, the forum rules simplified). Mind you, I will be quite a bit more lax than the forum rules- but if I, or any op, feels that you are being an idiot or whatever, then we will punish you accordingly.

Now, for other information

IRC clients
At the moment, there's no available Java client due to some issues with the website and all. And I'm not sure about one in the near future - I believe if Jeff decides to code a way to get on, then you'll be able to connect. But for now, stick to clients like mIRC and XChat. I, myself, prefer mIRC for it is basic and loads up faster, despite being supposedly outdated, but XChat has some advantages look-wise and such. I'm not sure about XChat myself, but I have heard that it's better than mIRC depending on preferences. If you run a Mac, then use Colloquy, which I know little about due to running on windows.

EDIT: And if you don't want to download programs, get this Firefox add-on known as Chatzilla (thanks Zerxer).

For more info, go onto Wikipedia, for I don't know the full details myself.

Final note: mIRC is 100% free despite what they tell you. Believe me, I've had mIRC for years on end without having to pay.

Other information you might find useful
I'm the chat owner, marked by a tilde (~). That means I can kick anyone, set channel options, and all that jazz. Basically, stuff most of you shouldn't concern yourself with. :P
Chat administrators will be this site's root and regular administrator groups. They are marked by an ampersand (&). They also do things most of you shouldn't worry about; they can kick people, ban people, and set channel modes.
Chat ops will be this site's moderators (both global, local, and RP) and are marked by an at (@). They can also kick and ban, but they cannot kick administrators and cannot set certain modes that administrators can (IIRC). Unlike administrators, these can kick each other.
Depending on activity in the future, halfops will be marked by a percent sign (%). They're ops with limited power, they cannot set most channel modes, and cannot kick each other. Their power is over the members, to put things quite short.
Voice, marked by a + sign, is for veterans.

Connecting
Server: irc.synirc.net
Channel: #gtsplus

In order to connect to Systemnet, type /server irc.systemnet.info into a bar at the bottom. In order to join the chat channel, type /join #gtsplus and you'll be connected to the chat, where I (Tibarn) am the owner.

For more help regarding IRC, click here.

Finally, yes, this is supported by SaS/Jeff, go ask him if you have any doubts (when he comes online tomorrow). Thanks for your time - and please, drop by and stay in if you're going to come, for we can't truly have activity till 5-10 people decide to stay! Just because it's dead right now doesn't mean it'll be dead in the future!

As for me, for right now I'm going to finish up homework and see if anyone connects, and watching over it for now.

~Ikey

Quick reference: /server irc.synirc.net

I was talking to SaS about getting a chat too. Blargagh. I'll be installing the stuff and whatnot when I get home from school today.

Anyways, I think this pretty much counts as an announcement, so I'm moving it to that forum.

By the way, if you use firefox and don't want an extra program, there's an IRC extension called ChatZilla. I use that.

This sounds good I guess. I never go on IRC though but I'll try it.

Added.

For the admins/moderators, be sure to register your name (it should be on the tutorial I mentioned earlier... if not, ask one of us) so I can add you to the auto op list.

Also, for those who are wondering, you can handle trades on the IRC channel if you wish.

I probably won't bother with this much, if at all. (So everyone can stop asking me to come on it already).

Vortex is really unstable, five Vortex-related netsplits happened within ~70 minutes... and for those who don't understand, a netsplit is where a certain server loses connection to the network... and Vortex does that a lot noes.gif

tl;dr

Also, I noticed this:
QUOTE(Ikey)
EDIT 2: If you don't want to download the above programs, here's a java applet - jwIRC. For server, type irc.empireirc.net; channel is #gtsplus, NICK being whatever nickname you wish to be on the chat by. Don't worry about the other categories. Once again, thanks Zerxer.

They can't go there to use that as an IRC applet, that is to download an applet to put on your own site like we did here. tongue.gif I was giving that link to SaS, not showing another method.

You use the Trade Station and Private Messages to handle trades, more information here.

Closing this because of useless necropost by the way, don't do it again.

Major update - the network is now irc.systemnet.info, which I hope will be a better move to encourage activity (more Pokemon fans on that network). And this is also a plea - PLEASE come onto IRC, and if you're on IRC stay for like 20 minutes. Maybe someone else will come on. If they don't, fine, but if they do then go ahead and stay. And talk. IRCs don't become active till stuff like that happens; hell, if you really want activity, call my name. I'm always online (whether or not I'm AFK will be another story), and whenever I'm on keyboard I'll respond to your message.

It'll be fun if you make it fun. Hell Jeff's probably going to put BidoofBot onto there if you're bored or something.
