I have beaten Elder Kiln. It was quite a pain until I tried substituting a bit of food and adding a prayer potion and a dragon halberd.

Early Bird bonus. <3

How hard is The Elder Kiln? I really want to do it when I renew my membership but I'm not sure if I'm underlevelled combat-wise. irritated.gif I know I definitely don't meet the magic requirement but that's an easy fix with high alching. unsure.gif

It depends on how you look at it I guess. There are a lot of hard hitting enemies throughout the quest that will require you to pack a lot of food and maybe a prayer potion or two (especially the 7 waves) but every single combat point of the quest is safe, so if you die you won't lose any of your items. It's hard, but theres no risk except lost food and potions trying to endure the whole thing. There are a lot of checkpoints too, but be warned that the waves are all at once and definitely the hardest part of the quest, it took me about ten tries and I spent nearly 200k to pay for more sharks to do that portion of the quest with.

My Strength, Defence, Attack, and Magic were all 75 at the time, my HP/Constitution was 76, and my prayer was 61. I'd REALLY recommend a dragon halberd for the 7 waves and try to fight only one enemy at a time because with the waves, they use all 3 forms of combat and will hit hard no matter how good your armor is. Definitely need some prayer potions, and super attack/strength really help too.

Constructive revival time goooooo.

So does anyone remember that Sizziling Summer thing that went on from August to September? Well I finally decided to use my 4 Instakill Darts now that Nex doesn't have a line of people standing at her spawnpoint. Needless to say, as soon as I have time, I'm coming back into this game in full force.

Here's the album of me in the process of getting drops, and the final result.

Ho. Lee. Shit.

I... I think I'm gonna be spending some of that money on training prayer...

Very nice drop indeed.
I too used my Instakill darts on Nex but didn't get any rare drops from her. If I recall correctly I roughly got around 5 million gp.

Also, I think its a good decision using some of that money on prayer it helps in the long run with bosses, especially with curses. To help with the revival of this thread what are your thoughts on the evolution of combat? It's been announced that its going into the live game on November 20.

If anyone would like to add me in game please message me and we can swap details.

Yeah, turns out I could afford 95 prayer with my pre-Nex drop cash at about 41 mil, so I'm just waiting for these dragon bones to buy.

Personally, I've always been optimistic about EoC. The most important factor to me is the re-balancing of the combat triangle, which was much needed for I don't know how many years. Yeah, ranged and magic were decent in some PvP scenarios, against certain bosses, etc. but it always seemed like melee stood out above the rest. Overload potions provided a huge boost to melee stats with less significant boosts to ranged and magic stats. Then there's Turmoil, which gave entirely melee-exclusive stat boosts. There were just too many things that complimented melee, and Jagex kind of neglected ranged and magic before EoC.

Other than that, dual-wielding is kind of awesome. Abilities are neat too, although even with spending a few hours on the beta I'm still not entirely sure about the deeper strategies with them. Most of the time when I was doing Castle Wars, etc. I was just mashing basic abilities, then threshold and basic, and then I'd use my ultimate if it allowed me to. I also like how godswords and enchanted excalibur are going to have passive abilities because I was initially disappointed with godswords in the beta.

Now, my biggest gripe with EoC, and I dunno if it's been changed since beta, but I loathe how enchanted bolts are limited to certain crossbow types. The two most popular ones for bossing (diamond (e) and ruby(e)) were both incompatible with any crossbow but the chaotic crossbow during the beta, which I found to be quite ridiculous considering the requirements to get the chaotic crossbow. I could see enchanted bolts having a required crossbow type up to rune or that new 2-handed dragon crossbow, but not as far up the tiers as chaotic.

So overall, I'm looking forward to the 20th, but it's still going to take a lot of getting used to.

Where do you guys get the instant kill darts?

In terms of EOC, I like all of the new animations and abilities. As far as the rest of it goes, not really sure. I am looking forward to the graphical update and the use of duel wielding as well as neutral and aggressive poses. However, I admit I don't fully understand the entire update. I did do the academy (looking forward to that xp) but I felt that I still didn't have a feel for it. I attributed this to my lack of participating in the BETA, lol. I did find out about a particularly interesting piece of information today, that the xp per hour for using red chins for range would be boosted to 2mil an hour. Is this true?

Sizzling Summer event, basically if you had a continuous membership throughout all of August and September, you could go to Diango (or I think they went to your bank if it had open space) and get a thing of 4 "Fate Cards". There were 4 different options, so you could have used one fate card and gotten a certain item, and spent all the rest on another. There were 4 items, being the Instakill Darts, an item that restored your health if you were to die, another healing item that healed you and everyone around you with accept aid on, and a temporary bank deposit box that lasted for an hour. The majority of people used all their Fate Cards to receive the darts, mainly on Nex but there were a few screencaps I saw where people would use them on tough bosses like Jad or Nomad.

Here's the wiki article on Fate Cards.

I would have gone for the instant darts too.

To be honest I've not played enough of the beta to really have an opinion on the matter. I did however complete the Combat Academy but that was more for the experience reward you get in the live game. However, I am looking forward to action bar, it'll be great for some of the more 'grinding' skills such as mining (you can drop the ores using the action bar). As for the combat side I've watched a few live streams of people playing the EoC on twitchtv and pvming looks very promising, as for pking I'm not so sure.

If you haven't yet heard Jagex have also added passive effects for the God Swords. Here are the effects for each weapon.

(Copied directly from the news feed)
Armadyl: Increases Attack and Strength stats.
Bandos: Decreases targets defence if they are above a certain base Defence level.
Saradomin: Heals some of your base life and prayer points.
Zamorak: Stuns your target.
Enchanted Excalibur (off-hand): Heals some base life points, which are boosted if the player has completed the elite tasks.

Good to hear there will be differences amongst the swords now and not just cosmetic looks. Though, I for one would still rather use my chaotic weaponry over this. Still deciding what offhand weapons to purchase however.

Another thing I will be interested in once the EoC goes live will be comparison rates of combat/slayer and that of the soon to be old system.

~HELLO~

I do have to say that I like the hotbar above the chat. Reminds me of minecraft and I find to be quite easy to use. I especially liked it during the academy when the abilities of whatever type of combat I was using automatically stacked in order. Even if I have to manually put them in there, I really quite like it. As far as abilities go though, I really only maged during he academy, that is when I had the choice, so when she started telling me about all of the abilities under the hp/def tab I just lost it, lol. Won't be using that tab but I do'nt pk so it should be fine.

On note of the gs', I heard that yesterday too. Love how the prices shot. I sadly sold my zgs because I thought specials were completely going away at the time and bought an ss hoping for better luck being that I at least saw it as a little more popular. So far, 1m down. Hoping for a rise, lol.

I also bout 7k red chins just in case my information about the range is correct.

Did you guys stock up on an item in hopes of riding the market?

What do you think of the evolution of combat since release?

Alright, so here's my thoughts on EoC now that I've had some time to play it seriously instead of running around in beta with full Torva and an obsidian doritos cape.

I'm loving the new combat system. It's more engaging instead of being "click and wait" like the old system was. I'm also glad that they added Momentum for people who wanted a break while training combat skills so the click-and-wait option is still there.

The rebalancing of equipment and the combat triangle as a whole works really well. There's still a few questionable choices that Jagex made with giving items stats (the Ankh is a quest item with an 80 agil requirement for FREE and it surpasses the Virtus Book, which costs 25 mil). Hopefully in the next little while they fix a few issues like that, and right now there's a fair number of unstable items on the market. But overall, properly dividing things into tiers works really well. I'm also glad that every weapon in a tier actually has a purpose, before EoC things like warhammers, maces, basically anything that wasn't a scimitar or longsword were rarely used. For the longest time, everyone on F2P ran around with rune scimitars, so now that's probably changed.

The new animations are great, especially with the Flurry ability. Spinning around two swords or battleaxes just feels so satisfying. It's cool to be able to sheathe your equipment on your hip and back, since before it looked awkward to see people running around with swords when all they were doing was cooking food. The new character models are nice, although the female models seem to have the um... unnecessarily large chest region. I was hoping that they'd reduce that before release since a lot of people were unhappy with that, but it doesn't look like it's happened. To be fair though, it's mostly with the batwing robes, so if anything they should've at least changed them.

A lot of people are complaining that many of the bosses that are currently in the game are easy, but I'm hoping that this means that there's room for tougher bosses. Nex has been the dominant raid boss for almost two years, so we're due for something bigger and badder. Hopefully something built specifically around the changes made in EoC that requires actual teamwork rather than "everyone bring your best chaotic weapon and just poke it until it dies".

I rather like the update too. Playing it for a few hours really does help one to get acquainted with the changes. I do agree that flurry is quite the awesome ability. I only train melee duel wielding because of it. I absolutely love the mage abilities, being a mage myself. I really love the ability that looks like you're chocking where your opponent receives damage over time and is stunned. You don't know how much I hate stunning. I didn't pvp much before but I decided to do some duel arena yesterday and stunning ripped through me, lol. Added a stun of my own and tried freedom but I found freedom to not be very helpful. Some of my opponents got to their max ability really fast too. That surprised me since I never got to mine. I do like the relaxed manner in which weapons sit now too. More realistic and looks cool for most weapons. The graphical updates and new animations look great. Yesterday I also saw a new craft window when I was doing a challenge. I found it to be quite informative. I am somewhat saddened to see so many of my friends quitting though. =/
