So I was reading up and saw that the plates were a reward a year ago in the shiny hunt, but is there any way of obtaining the plates now? Or will I never be able to obtain Arceus?

5 Arceus shards give rise to one plate. You get one shard by hatching a shiny pokemon whose primary type is the required shard you want (Flame from fire, Fist from Fighting, Zap from Electric etc.). Mind you, you can get only one shard by this method per day. Second method is to get rank 1 in the weekly pokehunt after you get all the 5 Cosplay Giftbox (which is available by getting rank 1-3). It doesn't count towards the one per day rule.
