I must agree with natures almost mattering more than IVs. Lets say you use a special attacker, then you obviously don't want a nature that decrease that stat. (Speaking of which, I still haven't switched my modest dugtrio) xD When it get to IVs I almost find that the placement of them are more important than the actual amount. Lets say you use that special attacker again, then who really cares if it got 0 IVs at the atk stat and lowering the total amount of IVs.

And to add on to this, sometimes a Nature like Mild or Naive that decreases a defensive state can be useful if the Pokemon's defense wasn't terribly high to begin with.

And this is fairly obvious, but Natures that decrease Speed or the preferred attack stat of the Pokemon are almost always useless.

So does Serebii have the info on what preferred stat a mon has? Because I have no idea.

The Dex entries on GPX have which attack stat is higher. Just as an example, Zapdos mentioned needing to replace his Modest Dugtrio. That's because it has a much higher Attack stat than Sp. Attack as you can see in the Dex entry.

VK...that's not entirely true. Speed decreasing stats CAN be very useful when it's say...something like an Aggron or Sudowoodo, which are terribly slow anyways and won't be outspeeding anything anytime soon, and can also easily afford to take a hit or two. Tanks, in general, don't need Speed, and mixed attackers would benefit greatly from none of their offensive or defensive stats going down. Kingdra is an example of a Pokemon that could afford a Speed decrease, because its use is mostly to absorb fire and water damage, and its offensive and defensive stats are equal.

I agree for the most part; that's why I said almost always useless. I agree that Pokemon like Ferrothorn, Gigalith, Sudowoodo, and Aggron, who are not going to outspeed someone, can afford it. I disagree about someone like Kingdra with middling speed though. Kingdra can outspeed some Pokemon, so I'd hate to shoot myself in the foot and take away some of that advantage.

The difference is, though, Kingdra's a niche player-it doesn't have ANY outstanding stats, so its use is more defensive typing than offensive power. Its use, at least for me, is trapping and eliminating Fire, Water, and Steel-types, or damaging the incoming switch well and then hopping out. Since my Kingdra either isn't damaged most of the time enough to overcome Leftovers, or it's attacking on a switch anyways, its Speed matters MUCH less than my other pokes. That's why I'm a bit sad it's Bold, and not, say, Quiet or Relaxed.

I guess it's better ground gem, I saw a lot of ampharos, raichus, and electric types
I was thinking about what types could counter water, and to battle an electric type, you can do a x1 damage... but it's ok ground gem (I think I need one more...) I have to compare to beating electric types or water-dragons-grass...

(It was about a feraligatr, i completely forgot it)

Honestly? It depends on the rest of your team. Do you have a solid Hippowdon/Dugtrio/Gliscor/whatever? Then go with Ice Gem. Got a Froslass or Glaceon chilling? Go with Ground Gem. Have both? Experiment!

I have a dugtrio, but I don't use it xD hippo and gliscor, I don't like them... and I don't use froslass not glaceon (My ice types are jynx and weavile at battle tower... but I'm using a jolteon with ice gem...)
So I don't know xD When I decide to use it, I will check my other pkmn at that team

Man, what a fierce combat against Zapdos!

After an unfortunate stalemate in the first bout, I switched my team up, and came out pistons firing.

It was close and tense for the longest time, switches back and forth trying desperately to get the edge!

And then, at last, a Haxorus broke through Azumarill's defensive line, and from there, chaos ensued!

It was a runaway victory for Doom Hunter in the end, but Zapdos's defensive front was VERY difficult to break!

I'm glad we've shown ourselves worthy of them since we gave them to ourselves x).gif

On another front, has anyone else noticed how many people (not in this group) don't have enough Pokemon in their Battle Tower to be challenged? It's among the more frustrating things on the site. Fill your Battle Towers, people!

HEY BATTLE DOJO!

It's quiet in here, and I need some help from y'all.

To anyone hatching Magikarp or Charmander:

I need an Adamant Magikarp and Modest Charmander with high IVs for an experiment I'm doing. I'm looking through the Safari, but if you've got one, get in contact with me, because I'd like to talk to you! happy.gif

How are Battle-y things in the Dojo?

I hoped that becoming an affiliate would help your group get some exposure.

Things are quite quiet at the Battle Dojo. We've had a few members join but nobody seems to be too active.

Maybe have some mentoring sessions going on?

That is, if there are any members like me who are not good at battling.

I would like to learn but I'm not able to play much at the present time.

Would it be futile if one tried to do battle on GPX+ without using items at all?

I hope i don't have to use valuable headspace for knowing the effects of items.

You can battle without items, but you're going to be a lot more successful with them.

Leftovers- Heal you around 8% after both Pokemon have attacked each turn.
Quick Claw- Your Pokemon has the chance to attack first regardless of speed.
Choice Band- Increases ATK stat by 1.5 times (300 ATK with a Choice Band would become 450 ATK); locks you into that move.
Choice Specs- Increases SP. ATK stat by 1.5 times (300 SP. ATK with a Choice Band would become 450 SP. ATK); locks you into that move.
Gems- Allow your Pokemon to use moves of the Gem's type.
