Global PokédeX Plus Forums _ Pokémon Debates _ Daycares or raising by Yourself?

Posted by: Shadowclaw Sep 8 2009, 07:25 PM

Would you rather raise eggs in a daycare or by yourself? Every once in a while, I will count the votes.

I prefer doing it by myself.

Self:1
Daycare: 0

Posted by: Reyo Sep 8 2009, 07:36 PM

um...you really can't raise an egg in the daycare...literally...it'll stay an egg forever, I've tried.
There's only one option really.

Posted by: Ace Trainer Chaos Sep 9 2009, 05:30 PM

Myself. The Day-Care Center teaches your Pokemon pathetic moves, and raising them yourself is faster.

Posted by: Usagi Zakura Sep 11 2009, 10:35 AM

Uhm? Are you talking in the game now or on GTS?
Putting eggs in the daycare is impossible anyway.

As for raising Pokčmon I prefer raising them myself, while I don't do EV-training (not knowingly anyway) I still believe they get stronger that way, and I have more control over what moves they learn. (If I DO put a Pokčmon in daycare for breeding or whatever I either scramble their moves to put my least favorite on top or a HM-move, so it won't be a loss if they replace it with something crappy)
Its also faster as Ace trainer mentions, especially since my training-method usually involves taking a weakling Pokčmon with me to the Battle Ground or Pokčmon League carrying EXP share X3

If we are talking games...

I prefer to raise them myself but there have been times when I've got so annoyed with a pokemon taking a while to level up that I just stuck it in the DC. Then, after what seems like a lifetime, I go back and it's been raised one frickin level!

Woop-De-Woop! Thanks a lot Daycare couple!

Pokemon in daycares or by yourself...I'm saying.

Posted by: suzyk Sep 27 2009, 06:09 PM

Would you rather put your kid in a Daycare Center for the rest of their life or raise them the way your momma taught you?

Yes.

I had a nanny called BIG MOMMA who raised all my pokemanz.

Too bad me Diamond's gone now.

Posted by: Shadowclaw Sep 28 2009, 08:42 PM

Sad.

Posted by: ElectricRat Sep 28 2009, 08:59 PM

I'm guessing you meant Pokemon because like some of the other posters already mentioned you can't have daycare people raise eggs for you. As for what I do it depends on the Pokemon and my degree of patience. I used to always put Magikarp in daycare until it reached level 19 and then I used rare candy. I still do it sometimes but not nearly as often as I used to. In fact I usually just raise them by myself now.

Posted by: Shadowclaw Oct 5 2009, 10:01 PM

Mm-hmm.

Usagi Zakura,
I am curious why your Infernape is Daisuke. Interesting that you would choose that name...*remembers from comic book*

Posted by: Wizboy777 Oct 9 2009, 02:37 AM

For me, the Daycare is only used for breeding and the occasional "I want to evolve this Pokemon eventually for my Pokedex, so I'll come back for it when I remember."

But as for real training, raising them the old-fashioned way is the best. Get to level 100 through hard work, not through walking around aimlessly.

He's named after an original character of mine. I know at least two manga/anime-characters with that name too though bucktooth.gif (DN Angel and Digimon Adventure 02)

Posted by: swiftshadow Oct 10 2009, 10:12 PM

Raising them by myself, because then I get to choose which stats I want to be raised.

The only downside to having an Exp. Share on a pokemon I don't want to evolve is having to repeatedly hit the B Button to stop evolving it.

Posted by: Shadowclaw Oct 11 2009, 08:29 PM

((Mm...I was thinking of the "Daisuke" in Dragon Drive.))

Posted by: Cager Macleod Oct 13 2009, 03:23 AM

Training them yourself for the win, as a poster as already said, if I wanted a pokemon too breed or I wanted it to evolve for my pokedex but i never want to use the pokemon(like magiKarp) I would put them in day-care, but I much prefer to raise them myself, even though its just a game it gives me a sense of forefilment grin.gif

Posted by: MoogleSam Oct 19 2009, 06:31 AM

I like to train them myself so that I can control what moves they learn. X3

Posted by: Koneko Midoria Oct 21 2009, 06:31 AM

Hope you mean Pokemon instead of eggs.
Since the eggs won't hatch or do anything without you carrying them yourself.

Anyway.
I'd care for the Pokemon myself.

Pros.
I get to pick the moves I want.
The Pokemon is more personalized.
I don't have to spend hundreds to get it back.

Cons.
It takes time.

Posted by: Shadowclaw Nov 1 2009, 10:11 PM

i never like to let someone else do the work
*cries*

Posted by: GrassGiant Nov 2 2009, 08:27 PM

I don't like the crappy moveset the daycare gives me.
And anyway Daycare dont gives EV too. So MYSELF is the besteh!

Posted by: Shadowclaw Nov 4 2009, 08:29 PM

Mmm. I agree with you.

Posted by: Shiro Kurosaki Nov 4 2009, 08:54 PM

Honestly, if you mean Pokemon, not eggs, then I'd have to say by my lonesome. The daycare not only takes forever (one step = 1 exp), but the movesets that they teach your Pokemon is really horrible.

The only Pokemon I have in any of my daycares is a Ditto for breeding purposes.

Posted by: Shadowclaw Nov 10 2009, 08:58 PM

Interesting.

Posted by: Z h a n e Nov 17 2009, 09:09 AM

Obviously by OURSELVES. I think we really should raise them by ourselves....

Posted by: Swiftsky Nov 17 2009, 11:30 PM

Agree

Posted by: eevee64 Nov 18 2009, 07:26 AM

Id definately prefer to raise them myself... it gives you a sense of achievement

Mm. Yup. I don't really post here so much, 'cuz it's the voters' decisions to chat.

Posted by: knight 6792 Jul 6 2010, 11:14 AM

Myself
1. More personalized
2. Better moves
3. What else am I gonna do?

Posted by: Mephistopheles Jul 7 2010, 05:54 AM

In daycare: If I just want evolve some pokemons and wont use them in any other way (e.g in battle)

By myself: If Im going to use that pokemon in battles on in my main party.

Posted by: Doveflight Nov 28 2010, 10:04 PM

I'll still say Myself no matter what bexause Daycares take forever. Once I left my Pokemon LV 27 Lairon in the Daycare and came back like 5 days later he was still a LV 27 Lairon!

Posted by: Drunkenwhale Nov 29 2010, 07:36 PM

I think the answer is obvious.

Only time my pokemon see the daycare is if I'm breeding them, and if they are at a high enough level to the point where they don't go down their moveset while I'm trying to get pokemon eggs, for egg moves.

Posted by: Doveflight Nov 29 2010, 09:10 PM

I know it's obvious.

Posted by: BarkAtTheMoon Nov 29 2010, 11:57 PM

The only thing I raise in a daycare is ditto. I think I stuck a ditto in the daycare in Diamond as soon as I caught it and left it in there (its like level 80 or something).

Sometimes I throw low level pokemon in there that I dont plan on using ever, but even then I rarely use the daycare

Posted by: FancyGranola Nov 30 2010, 01:47 AM

Raising by myself. But Daycare is much more important for me. I breed Pokemon like crazy. I need my good IVs and movesets.

Posted by: Evangelion Nov 30 2010, 06:37 PM

IMO, Daycare is only made for breeding purposes O.o

Raising pokemon at Daycare is definitely not viable for me. They teach your pokemon trash moves, and it takes so long.

Posted by: Silverwing Nov 30 2010, 07:44 PM

Myself of course! The daycare doesn't give you EVs.

Posted by: Chu Chu Nov 30 2010, 09:28 PM

Half and half. Train my Pokemon until their EVs are maxed out and they can't learn any more moves and just chuck em in the Daycare. It's much faster in my opinion, battles hardly move your Exp up when your in the level 60's and up.

Posted by: Doveflight Nov 30 2010, 09:43 PM

All good opinions

Posted by: Slyfur Nov 30 2010, 10:43 PM

EV Train and then off to the Daycare they go. I can just use the move relearner anyway.

Posted by: Doveflight Dec 1 2010, 08:01 PM

Wow! One of the first people to think mostly Daycare! I like the many opinions. Thank you!

Posted by: Move Along Dec 1 2010, 09:07 PM

Myself. I have a very specific training strategy. I start with a level one pokemon I want to train with a nature that benefits the specific stat I want raised. I train it with the exp share. Then, after it gets around level 30, I take the exp share and give it a power item (power bracer, power lens, etc). I train it up like that until 100.

Posted by: Doveflight Dec 1 2010, 10:08 PM

I see. My only "realish" Pokemon game is XD Gale of Darkness. Its really hard to level up.

Posted by: Dazmi Dec 2 2010, 01:47 AM

I like to level up pokemon in the daycare if it's not going to be in my party. Otherwise, I level them up by battling.

Posted by: Doveflight Dec 2 2010, 07:20 PM

It makes sense.

Posted by: SekiMoshu Dec 23 2010, 08:47 AM

I've never actually let the daycare raise my pokemon. Why waste the money on that when I can use it on better things like protiens, calciums, hp ups, ectect. Overall you're better off raising your pokemon on your own and there's plenty of guides on what to kill if you know what you want to raise your pokemon in. Then again I'm a breeder so of course I'd say raising my pokemon myself.

Posted by: asamihikari Dec 23 2010, 08:53 AM

Myself because I feel a lot better knowing I raised them on my own. Even in the pokemon games, I always hand raised them myself

Posted by: SmugleafForever Dec 24 2010, 12:47 PM

So most people like to raise them by themselves. So do I. Though Magikarps, Feebas, Caterpie, Weedle, and the "weaker" Pokemon, I'll stick in the Daycare.

Posted by: CrowFeather Dec 27 2010, 12:39 AM

Self, because the daycare people fuck up all your stats. I'm the exact same as Slyfur, but I chain Pokemon for the specific stat I'm working on.

Posted by: Elegant Flare Dec 30 2010, 07:59 AM

I'm gonna have to say by myself. I like to be in control, so that usually means doing the work myself. Besides, daycare costs money.

Posted by: SmugleafForever Dec 30 2010, 08:46 PM

M-hmmm.........That's what everyone says happy.gif

Posted by: demonicvampiregirl Dec 31 2010, 02:48 AM

I only put Ditto into the Daycare otherwise it's raised by me, whether its using EXP Share or actually battling with them (or a mix of both). I prefer to raise them myself so I can get the movesets I wish to have on them.

Posted by: TheSecretStaraptor Feb 3 2011, 09:44 PM

Myself, because what if they delete a good move I had on one of my Pokemon?

Posted by: Super Squirrel Feb 3 2011, 09:45 PM

Depends. If i'll be using it alot in my team then I usually prefer self training.

If its a legend that i'll just show off or rarely use, daycare.

The only reason I don't like daycare is because I prefer specific moves for each pokemon. I'm cool with it if i can find the right TMs though.

Posted by: SmugleafForever Feb 4 2011, 07:51 PM

Yeah. That works for me. But the Daycare gives you boring old status moves. DX Mai nightmare.

Posted by: Shinzu Feb 4 2011, 08:08 PM

P: Unless I feel patient that day, I stick all Pokemon I need in the Daycare. Honestly, I'm not a big battler, and don't need level 100 Pokemon. Ever. I just go for the catch 'em all thing and shove 'em in a PC box the moment they hit their last evolution.

Posted by: ComparativelyUnique Feb 6 2011, 12:00 PM

I do EV training for some of my pokemon, so the daycare isn't really an option if I want to go into competitive battling or really even make the thing decent. Sometimes I do put pokemon in the daycare that I don't want to use and just get them at the level they need to be so I can evolve them, and fill out my pokedex a little bit more.

I do a lot of breeding, though, for egg moves and stuff, and use the daycare quite a lot for that.

Posted by: Breeder Drew Feb 10 2011, 10:11 AM

The Daycare costs money and gives you horrible attacks for your trouble of running around a region thirty times. So by myself.

Posted by: Barryc10 Feb 13 2011, 12:58 PM

I don't use Daycare except for breeding. If they happen to gain a level or two during the breeding process, great. If not, it's no loss. In fact, I'm dedicated to personally training Pokemon to the point that I'll train a level 5 Magikarp to evolution.

^That. I've had a Magikarp trained to Gyarados in every version I've played (which would be every version but Yellow and Platinum) and I've always trained it myself.

Once I'm done with the game I like to train Pokemon to have certain movesets, on some versions I settle just for breeding and training for moves, but I also do do EV training. In the case of the latter, I'd first breed a personality, then EV train with a Power item (not EXP first, you waste unnecessary EVs doing that) until EVs are maxed out, then grind with EXP SHARE to level up.

Posted by: Verinia Mar 5 2011, 10:29 PM

Myself, though sometimes I use the daycare like this : I would deposit a Pokémon there and explore the Kanto region in HG, and then after a week, I get it, then make it remember the moves I should've taught it! But I like doing it myself.

Posted by: okpo Jun 6 2011, 08:25 AM

I would use daycare
