To you, in your opinion, what type (Dark, Psychic, Water) do you think is the most dominant. I mean what do you think can really destroy any type.
I think Ground is the most Dominant because it can take down really every type (Ice/Rock/Fire) most critical, but does quite some damage to other types like Grass, and Water. -------------------- |

Ground is really good, but I feel that the weaknesses to Water, Grass, and Ice are enough to keep it in check. This wouldn't be the case if Water wasn't so prominent and versatile of a type. Ground types are normally a bit lacking in Special Defense, as well, which makes their weaknesses even more glaring. Still, dat Earthquake, tho. If ever a Ground type couldn't learn it, it would be in for a world of hurt.
Water is currently THE dominant type, in my opinion. Excellent neutral coverage, vast movepools, solidly balanced BSTs, functionally only one weakness at a time since Grass isn't as good a type to use as it could be (or is paired with Ground so that it is immune to Electric), tons of strong moves with interesting added effects and high accuracy, jeez. I think it's in need of a small nerf. Freeze-Dry was a step in the right direction, but I think more needs to be done. Ice (and maybe Steel) resisting it would help out a lot (as well as giving Ice types a reason to exist). Maybe if future Water types didn't get so many coverage moves, that would help a bit too. Before this gen, I would have said Fighting and Dark. Especially Fighting. If it wasn't super-effective against something, it could OHKO/2HKO it through sheer power. The moves are all extremely strong and reliable. Flying is a lame counter since it's so frail, and Fighting learns a ton of Rock type moves to kill it anyway. I can't really remember what I felt was so OP about Dark, looking back. I think it was that I thought it was becoming a similar situation to Water at the time. It was good for coverage, killed another type's reason for existing (Ghost), and the moves had a ton of really strong side-effects. The pokemon of the type weren't exactly the problem. It was the moves. Although the only two things super-effective against it were a frail, rarely used type and another even more powerful type. I think it was more that I was seeing what Dark could have become as gens went on. If more pokemon like Scrafty had been introduced (despite it being one of my favorite Pokemon), it would have been beastly. Decent defenses makes Dark really interesting and far more threatening. The environment of gen 5 also made Dark and Fighting shine extremely brightly. I unintentionally soloed both games with Scrafty (especially Black 2) because everything, including the E4 and champion, was weak to his dual STAB. I had zero coverage on him. Crunch, High Jump Kick, Brick Break, and Strength. That was all he needed. Moxie was just icing on the cake (or salt in the wound). Oh, and he was Modest, had poor IVs, random investment in EV's and no/low investment in Speed. I used AR to view his hidden data after I was finished with the game. Fairy did exactly what I wanted it to do when it came out: Nerf Fighting and Dark. I have no complaints about it. I just think that gen 7 needs to bite the bullet and introduce a lot of Fairies to make up for the few and poor ones we have now. Interestingly enough, I never felt that Dragon was broken. Most of them were quad weak to Ice, so with Water's omnipresence, high stability, and access to Ice moves, I felt that Dragon was kept in check just fine. XD Fairy being immune and super-effective is perfectly alright, too. I'm not a metagame person, though I do read on Smogon sometimes because I find some of the strategies interesting. There's probably a bunch of types that are more/less formidable than what is readily apparent. -------------------- |

Really, now that Fairy type exists the presence of Dragon types are.. a bit limited, now. Really it's a game of switching things out, but with all types, there's more than just being a type.
Water, at the moment, is by far a dominant type for attacking due to most having a wide movepool and additional typings. Steel itself is probably considered to be the best defencive type at the moment. Electric isn't too bad of a type either. Eelektross itself (outside of Mold Breaker, Trick + Iron Ball and Gravity) essentially resists everything. Electric types tend to have a decent movepool themselves, which usually ends up covering their only weakness; Ground. (Quite fond of Rotom-H and Lanturn myself) Because of the nerf of Fighting and Dark (which as you know, Fighting decimates Steel and has lost its resistance to Dark and Ghost), Steel types can come back with a bit of a.. vengeance, so to speak. Fairy > Fighting + Dark Fighting > Steel Steel > Fairy Almost a triangle, but with the presence of Fairy types being more and more often, the amount of Fighting types in the OU tiers being used are small. But with anything, it's not just the types but more the pokémon itself (along with abilities and whatnot) -------------------- Don't forget to love yourself. I WOULD say Dragon, but with the addition of Fairy, I won't. Instead, I'd say Ice. It has a few weaknesses, but can take down Grass, Flying, Ground, Dragon, and, with the addition of the move Freeze-Dry, Water.

I find that Psychic is the most versatile type.
Most of its members (ex: Mewtwo) can learn Focus Blast, Dark Pulse and/or Flamethrower, effectively countering their weaknesses. As well, pokemon such as Malamar can counter their Dark and Ghost weaknesses, and Delphox can counter Bug. Actually, there's nothing that is really "the best" type. It seemed that Psychic and Dragon were the best in first gen, so Nintendo added Steel and Dark to counter them. Now they've got Fairy, so that weakenes Fighting, Dark and Dragon, meaning that types like Steel can outshine them. I will add a breakdown of my summary of the types in a few days. EDIT: I actually still agree with the previous statement, but I have something to add. I have recently been OWNING with my fire team on Showdown! One tournament won and another lost in second place within 15 minutes. I find that fire, thanks to Charizard Y and Talonflame, is the best type.
