One Rough Start

Ryu paused a moment to wipe the sweat off of his brow. He had been searching through these ruins since this morning, looking for... something. He wasn't sure what he was looking for, he just wanted to find something. He had been traveling for a few weeks now, not with any destination in mind. He hadn't seen that many trainers, but the wild pokemon were plentiful. Miyumi had battled many of them, and Kai a few, and Ryu was sure that they'd both gotten stronger since he left Petropolis. He had always given the wild pokemon a few Oran berries after thier battles. He didn't want to capture them, and just leaving them there, all bruised up, would've been cruel. He checked the pouch of berries on his belt, there were only a few left. The berries his mother had given him were used up quickly, but he had always been able to find more, until a few days ago, when he arrived in Lenoilia.

He had no idea what gave him the impulsive urge to stop here and search the ruins, but Ryu usually followed his impulses. His mother said he was rash because of that. His mother... the only person he still had any feelings towards. When his father had died and his best friend abandoned him, he had completely clammed up towards people. But, now he knew he couldn't stay like that, he had opened up around his mother again, and treated his pokemon well, but that was it so far. He still didn't trust other people, and he didn't see how he could. He sat down on a nearby stone, reaching for one of the pokeballs on his belt. Maybe his pokemon would help take his mind off of things. He stopped for a moment, his hand frozen an inch away from one of his pokeballs. Kai wouldn't help him right now, flying around and chittering his head off, Miyumi would be a better choice. He moved his hand, grabbing the other ball, then throwing it up in the air. There was a flash of light, and the ball fell back into his hand, his pokemon appearing in front of him.

"Nido!" The pokemon shouted gleefully, its eyes twinkling. Miyumi, a female Nidoran, had been named after his friend, the one that had abandoned him, as a reminder of all of the good times. It had been an impulse, like stopping in Lenoilia, but he was glad that he would always remember the good times with Miyumi, as well as the bad. Maybe Kai would've been the better choice after all, his name wouldn't remind him of anything but the Tailow that he had caught. "Nidoran!" Miyumi put her front paws up on Ryu's knees, snapping him back to the present. Ryu laughed for a moment, patting Miyumi on the head. "You really want some attention right now, don't you? Locked up in that pokeball since this morning?" The pokemon looked up at him, her head tilting to one side. "Maybe you can help me with something. I'm looking for something, it's in these ruins somewhere, can you help me find it?" Ryu reached down for his other pokeball, Kai could help too, and he'd be glad to get some fresh air. He tossed this pokeball up as well, catching it and clipping it back onto his belt. "Tailow!" The bird pokemon dove at Ryu's head, pulling up at the last second, and just going straight up and up and up. "Kai! Get back down here, I need you to help me find something!" Ryu turned back to Miyumi once he saw Kai on his way back down, but the pokemon was staring at something Ryu couldn't see with her ears back.

Michelle had been walking through the ruins for quite a long time now. It was her first destination since leaving her home of Fidona. Her black hair was tied up into a messy bun, and her skirt and blouse were similar shades of light blue. Walking alongside her was a Piplup and a Cyndaquil, Piplup on her left and Cyndaquil on her right.

She heard the voices of what seemed to be a Nidoran and a Taillow. Michelle followed the noises, and eventually she heard another voice, this one belonging to a human. Her curiosity was certainly getting to her, and she couldn't help but follow the voices.

As she got closer, she noticed a Nidoran and let out a quiet gasp. It appeared to be glaring at her, so she moved to hide from it. She saw a trainer with it, and a Taillow appeared to be flying in the sky. She returned her Pokemon as she crouched behind some nearby rocks. Michelle was certainly hoping that the Nidoran wouldn't follow her or that the trainer wouldn't notice.
