I grew up with Pokemon Gold, and also owned Crystal.
My first WTF moment was seeing a pink Drowzee. I didn't know a thing about shinies back then so imagine my shock when something that was supposed to be very yellow was suddenly very pink on my screen. I showed it off to my friends. (One of my friends was teased for announcing he had a "brown Raticate".) After wondering what would happen when it evolved, I was ecstatic when I got a pink Hypno. Of course, this is all standard nowadays, isn't it. Another real WTF moment for me was completing the Pokedex. Yes, I completed the Pokedex - all 251 Pokemon, some of which I simply traded then traded back to other kids I met at a Nintendo Poke-meet (where I also got Celebi.) I didn't own all of them (some were released, some I borrowed for the dex completion, some had simply evolved,) but I definitely had every dex entry! 251 Pokemon. Here you go, Professor Oak, complete Pokedex! Aren't I great! "Congratulations, you have completed the Pokedex! Here is a certificate! Run along now." ... ... ... That's it? Are you serious? The strange radio broadcast in the Ruins of Alph. It didn't help that I was playing my game using a Worm Light when I was supposed to be sleeping. No I wasn't terrified but was a bit unnerving and unpleasant to listen to. My cat didn't seem to like it either.

Once on the route between Blackthorn City and New Bark I found a Shiny Teddiursa, I was ready to throw an Ultra ball and the "Your box is full" message appears....

Seeing a shiny Murkrow in the Kanto region - only it was the first time I ever saw a Murkrow. When I saw a second one, I wondered why it was black and not that purply-pink tinge.

Trading a Pikachu from Yellow, getting Light Ball.
Breed that Pikachu, get shiny Pichu, not be able to tell single difference in color. Realizing after my first three months of playing that there was a save feature in this game. --------------------  Delicious omelet, or future clicks-long companion? You decide. |

WTF moment for me when I saw Red's team. Between Blue (who's Arcanine wasn't even lvl 60) and Red's Pikachu which was lvl 81, there was a HUGE difference when I found about it. And I came unprepared for this. His Snorlax body-slammed my whiny head off.

The only thing strange happen to me was on Silver i was cloning Entei and i accidently turned off my game boy turned it back on and i still had my Entei but when i looked at my Pokedex it said i had no entry for Entei. I was like i got a Phantom Entei. Told all my friends at school and they were like wth.

First time I ran into the dog trio. I was training a low level pokemon. They attacked my low level and it fainted... I thought I'd never see it again. Then I go to see it again... Same thing happened with another low level pokemon. Same general area too. I never caught it. I think it was a Raikou....

Friend gave me a pink celebi from an event, i stopped playing the game for months, decided to reset my game, upon saving i remembered i had a pink celebi. Serious WTF moment >:I
Also serious WTF moment when playing the game, ran into Raikou, wasn't paying attention and accidentally killed him then saved, and began to wonder why i would never encounter Raikou after that... |

EDIT: I just noticed that this was posted on a few months ago, but I can't figure out how to delete my post!
Just now, I was typing my rival's name too fast. I typed in an A and wanted to go to I to enter that. Usually, instead of scrolling across the whole row to get to the letter on the right, I just go left once, but I accidentally pressed up and right at the same time, and accidentally selected "End." Now on Crystal, I have a rival named A. I didn't notice until about a moment later. Also, I was very surprised when I got a female Cyndaquil three times in a row (I wanted a male so I could nickname it). I was seriously thinking "what the heck..."
