Global PokédeX Plus Forums _ Pokémon TCG _ Any Tournament Advice?

Posted by: PheonixGRX Mar 6 2013, 11:14 AM

This weekend, I will hopefully be entering a pokemon tournament, and may hopefully get my first official badge (all my ones are bought from Sanshee)

My deck is a psychic/fire type, however I have a very low amount of fire types, and use a few normal type pokemon like Braviary, Lopunny, and Clefable. I use the normal types for their abilities to easily evolve my pokemon, and getting rid of my opponents weaker pokemon, and even healing. The fire types were meant to be used for their burn effects, however I realized I don't have any that can burn the opponent, so I am using ones that damage benched pokemon as well. The psychic type I use are the zubat family, and grimer family for their poison abilities, a Venipede and Whirlipede for their poison point abilities, Golett and Golurk for Devolution Punch (bound to come in handy) and a Sigilyph that uses Psychic assault which in theory, is rather good for every consecutive turn. I also have a Girantina, however he is just for power.

My main deck strategy is to use venipede and whirlipede to poison the opponent until I can get out my Plasma Storm Crobat, in which case I can finally do some good damage (4 damage, plus 4 in between turns instead of 1). I use the Virbank City Gym as well to quickly burn through my opponents, and I have a Hypnotoxic laser to poison my opponent in case I cant do it normally.

To what I have been told, pokemon abilities can be used while on the bench, so Clefable's ability to flip a coin, if heads, evolve one of the benched pokemon with a card from your deck is very helpful. If this is not true, can someone please correct me.

This Sunday, I will hopefully be entering the tournament, and it will be my first official match, and, excluding having my brother trying to learn with me, my first match ever. Does anyone have any advice on how to improve my deck to help me win? Thank you in advance.
