And a Golurk

Pan was turning her head left and right as a woman’s voice called for help. Who was that? Whoever she was, she had told the researcher to “follow the ghosts” to their source. Judging by the movements of the horde, that source was the lake itself, which seemed to be filled with more ghost pokemon than water. That must have been where the voice was directing them towards.

As Frog, Droid, and the other pokemon were keeping the ghosts at bay, Justin rushed up to Pan and Douken, informing them that he too heard the voice. It was surely no coincidence: some psychic entity was telepathically telling them where to go next.

“Yeah, I heard it too,” Pan confirmed, looking to the lake. “She said to follow the ghosts to where they’re coming from. I don’t know how long this place is going to hold up, so I don’t think we have a choice.”

Pan pondered for a few seconds as to how they were going to get to this “source”. If they simply waded through on foot, they would never get past the ghosts. No, they needed brute force to ram through the horde. At 9 ft and over 700 lbs, Droid had the strength to get through.

“Droid! We need a ride!” The golurk responded by backing away from the battle and kneeling to Pan. This left their other pokemon without an ally, so the team would have to act quickly before they were overwhelmed by the ghosts. She quickly rushed behind it and wrapped her arms around his head. Taking the hint, Douken and Justin followed, taking their place at Pan’s side and hanging upon the golurk’s shoulders. It was quite cramped with everyone on top of each other, but it would have to do, given the situation. As soon as Droid started powering up, Pan and the others recalled their other pokemon, and just in time. Frog was nearly buried within a pile of ghastly. As soon as they were recalled, the enemy pokemon descended upon the humans. Pan could feel the cold hands attempting to pull her away. Before the ghost pokemon became too much, the team had launched straight into the air. Whatever pokemon were trying to grab ahold of them were quickly thrown by the sudden burst of speed.

“Hang on!” Pan cried as the golurk accelerated upwards. So this is what it felt like to be a rocket? Still hanging onto her poliwhirl’s pokeball, she had to rely on her arms (wrapped around the golurk’s head) to avoid being brought down to earth. Soon enough though, Droid leveled out, flying horizontal above the battlefield. The ghosts continued to tear the landscape apart, chowing down upon the dream world. Pan refocused upon the entry point, pointing it out to Droid.

“We need to get through there!” she said. “Droid, we need you to charge through there as fast as you can!”

Without hesitation, the golurk lurched downward like the descent of a roller coaster. Pan had to retighten her grip after the sudden movement. Even though they could have been heading straight into water, the golurk continued to rocket towards the destination. Was this simply following orders as a machine or the absolute trust of a friend? That question was not going through the researcher’s mind as they hurtled downward. In fact, the only thing she was thinking about was whether this was a good idea.

“THIS BETTER WOOOOORRRRRRK!!! AAAAAAAHHHH!!!”

The next few moments were filled with screams as Droid and passengers collided into the ghost horde, destination unknown...

Maya had to catch a ride inside Droid's hand once Douken let the giant know that he was lacking everyone's Pokeball. And, well telling Droid this passed the message onto the others hat all he had available to him was the extremely worn out seal. Certainly made him feel ready for what's to come next, right?

Well, for such a giant, Droid was actually pretty fast when flying about. It almost made him glad that Sabre tried to shake him off whenever he could using Agility when he first started flying. His body was taking the impact better as well as he learned how to lower his body to not get caught like a parachute as the group crashed through the lakefront where, instead of being flooded with water, they were surrounded by whatever filled in the empty voids of Octillary's dream: the barrier between the dream worlds. And as they dominoed though the ghosts though, they were lead back into Maya's dream: whatever was left of it. It still felt like they were underwater, but the visuals were nearly gone, almost like an apple cord. And still, slowly the ghosts came through to try and stop them as they battered through. They were nearing the end of the line when the Golurk soon crashed into a Kirlia just starting to pass through. Soon, they were engulfed in light.

All the bodies fell from the sky and crashed back into the floor of the grassy fields, right close to a paved walk way. Bright, attractive lights shown behind them, making Douken turn around after recovering from the fall. It was the Crescent Hotel! Did they get back to their world? Were they finally awake?

No.

Upon a closer inspection, there was one thing different from this world that stood out. The moon above their heads was locked inside a cage. The moon was the prisoner in this world. This dream.

"So you are the bastards who the bitch try to ask for help from, eh? Damn, she must be really desperate if this is the help she called for!" Turning around, Douken was able to watch a Shadow Ball fly forward into Maya, getting a direct hit to make her now unconscious body roll backwards. "To bad you guys have to end like this, but its not me you should blame." The figure then stood outof the shadows and in front of them. A lone Gengar, covering his body with a Reaper's Cape as a cloack, a torn up red scarf he had found, and what Douken would guess as a berry's juice to whiten the top of his head. This Gengar was a Disciple of Darkrai! "If anyone, you should blame the bitch over there from screwing you over so bad!" Pointing behind him, he let them see who was having prisoner, surrounded by four Haunters with their hands inside her. Her body was worn out and severely injured, barely hanging on to life it seemed. Her body was that like the crescent moon herself.

"Now Cresillia, watch what happens when I eat a Pokemon outside of their dreams! Because once your saviors are gone, then there is nothing that will stop me from becoming Darkrai's right hand man! Now then, time to feast!" As the Shadow Pokemon dashed forward, Douken could of done nothing to help. He had no Pokeball, and he couldn't of intercepted in time. Damn it!

Justin just held on for the ride. He was rightfully confused by the situation and lacked the quick thinking of Pan. So, it made sense that she called the shots, as that tended to work out. And work out it did, or at least seemed, as they were quickly back at the outside of the inn.

The group seemed relieved at first - They were back in the real world. For seemingly no reason, but Justin wasn't about to argue that point. Then Douken seemed to notice something strange up above them, so he took a look as well. "Ah fuck," he sighed as he noticed the moon was somehow encaged. They were evidently still in the dream. But whose dream? Was it still Octillery's?

Then some Gengar began talking about how awesome he was and how he was going to kill everybody. Justin turned around and saw a crescent shaped pokemon, who, at that point, he only recognized as "the bitch over there." Justin wasn't too well versed on the legendary pokemon, after all, and a rarity like Cresselia was certainly no exception. In any case, her audible cries made it clear that she was the one giving them advice. "Follow the eaters."

Justin wasn't about to sit and figure out if this was her dream, Gengar's dream or, hell, still Octillery's dream. He knew who the bad guy was, a luxury he was not used to, given his life of crime and constant moral grey areas. For once, he knew exactly what the right thing to do was. He knew exactly who he needed to oppose and who he needed to protect.

"Hitmontop!" Justin shouted, sending out his Go-To pokemon. "Chase him down. Use Pursuit!"

Hitmontop is not a clear choice against a ghost type. His powerful Fake Out Mach Punch combo was entirely ineffective. Pursuit, however, was boosted by Hitmontop's powerful Technician ability, making fast and precise attacks increasingly effective. Moreover, Gengar's target was different - He was moving away from Hitmontop, allowing Pursuit to be used to its full effectiveness. On top of this, Ghost is weak to the Dark type attack. Pursuit was so incredibly effective against Gengar in this exact situation.

And yet, he stumbled. He didn't die. He didn't get knocked out. He stumbled, slightly. Granted, he wasn't able to reach Maya, his intended target, but he was certainly an extraordinarily powerful pokemon given his ability to survive Hitmontop's extraordinary power. "Might need some help on this one," Justin said. "That's not a normal Gengar." And of course, someone needed to stop the Haunters from doing whatever the hell it was they were doing to Cresselia.

And a Golurk

Pan held on tight as her golurk crashed through multiple barriers of the dreamscape until they reached what appeared to be the Crescent Hotel. Evidently, not even alternate realities are a match for Droid’s heavy slam. The flight had taken its toll on the ghost type; it was taking much longer to get back up than usual. This wasn’t good, particularly because they were about to be in a major battle.

The gengar in front of them went into a monologue as it threatened to devour everyone. The fact that he could talk meant that they weren’t quite out of the dream world, though the caged moon above was a bigger hint. A much more disturbing aspect of the pokemon was its attire: the ghost pokemon was a member of the same cult the three had encountered at the ranch and the museum. Behind him, A group of four haunter were holding some sort of pokemon captive. Their bodies obscured the identity of the captive, but the gengar kept referring to it as Cresselia. Pan was not well versed in Sinnoh mythology, but it was quite clear that they must free this pokemon to make any leeway into getting back to reality. But first, they had to deal with the charging gengar.

Justin’s Hitmontop started things off with a mighty pursuit attack, stalling the gengar enough for Pan to order an attack.

“Droid, give him a volley! Shadow Punch!”

The golurk didn’t have to move too much to strike. Finally on its feet, the golurk struck its shadow upon the ground, the fist traveling straight through the darkness. Its hand reappeared through the enemy’s shadow, heading straight for the gengar’s stupid grin.

The Pursuit was enough to stop the movement, and the following Shadow Punch launched him into the air before falling into the ground. The Gengar's body simply laid there, giving Douken the moment to grab Maya and drag her over behind the others. However, looking over at the psychic and four hosts that were also near them, the Haunter were a bit shocked, enough to get their hands out of their victim, but not come out and assault the party themselves.

"Kya ha ha ha! Kya ha ha ha!!!" The Gengar's body was flopping violently as he laughed. "This is rich. Oh, so rich! To think you pieces of shit knocked me on my ass!" Leaping back onto his feet in a swift motion, it looked like the Gengar got a bloody nose from the punch (Whatever ghosts got for blood, that is). "You know daddy always told me that I should return favors, and Mommy told that giving is better than receiving. Now then, how about I give you a Dark Pulse in return!" Holding his hands out in front of him, a dark ball formed between his palms before firing off a blast of dark rings, sweeping it across from the opposing Hitmontop to the Golurk, creating a large dust cloud in the process.

The distracted haunters began to cackle about what happened. Their boss was powerful, that was sure, but it was that power that distracted them from their duty of preventing Cressilia doing anything fancy. With a faint glow from the legendary psychic's eyes, she materialized something from a dream, muttering, "Never doubt the bonds one has, even inside a dream," before collapsing.

And the sound of the falling head made the Gengar's head twist. Haunters off duty and his prisoner fainted. "YOU ASSHOLE, SHE FAINTED! Not only do we no loner get a feast, but her brother was supposed to finish her off. Are you even paying attention you pieces of shit?!"

As the Gengar rambled on, Douken was able to feel something touch his foot, and with a quick look, he was able to see the shape of a ball. A pokeball nonetheless (but what kind he could not tell). He thought it could of been Maya's out of no where, but when he tried to use it to return her, nothing happened. Better than not trying, echoed in the Amazon's head, resting his hand on top of Maya's belly.

Squee...

Another voice echoed inside his head this time. Not as vocal, but he definitely heard something. And the Pokeball... it was glowing, as if responding to Maya. The Pokeball was giving color now, which has been one he had never seen before. Unlike the heavy ed color a normal Pokeball had, it had a bright pink top with a spot of hot pink on the center of it. It felt strange... but it felt like there was someone already inside now. "When life gives you lemons..."

With the dust clearing away, the Gengar was still upset with his co-hoards, cussing them out completely. "Don't forget, yo still have us to deal with!" Douken screamed out, chucking the new ball in hand.

His voice was enough to recatch the Gengar's attention to turn around and get slammed in the face by the said Pokeball. "What the fuck! Did you think you could catch me with that?!" catch, no, because the Pokeball was still spinning in midair, before bursting open with a white light. The light soon took shape of a familiar blue serpentine.

"Canaan..."

Justin stayed silent throughout Gengar's "episode," losing any semblance of fear he may have had before. He was not some menacing evildoer. He was just some mid-level grunt trying to accomplish something greater than himself, and his anger betrayed him.

He seemed upset that the imprisoned pokemon had fainted, and then Douken summoned a Dratini, which was new. Justin, at least, hadn't seen it yet. Still, it looked like a fairly weak pokemon, although even Justin knew its potential, and its chances against this Gengar seemed slim. Douken had the right idea, though - They had to take down this guy.

"Hitmontop, Pursuit!" It was still his best move against the ghost type. Even though Gengar wasn't currently running away, it would still do fair damage (especially given Hitmontop's absurd strength and precision). Having Hitmontop out and ready to fight was certainly the best option, just incase Gengar did try to run away. He seemed the type, after all, to run away when things were no longer in his favor. But with Hitmontop all up on him with Pursuit, it would be impossible.

"You're not gonna win!" Justin shouted. "And you're not getting away! So, if I were you, I'd-Ah!"

He was too focused on the Gengar - They all were. The Haunters were still there, and evidently, still loyal. Two of them grabbed Justin from behind and pulled him to the ground. "Son of a-" he flailed and punched, but they were ghosts, and his fists did nothing. They held him down and slashed at him constantly. The other two headed for Douken and Pan (one each) but it made sense to send two after Justin, just since he was so much bigger.

"Hitmontop!" Justin yelled from the ground. "You stay on Gengar! Don't let him get away!"

He had to say it. If he didn't, his pokemon would run back and take on all the Haunters at once, but that would certainly mean Gengar's escape. They had enough pokemon with them to fight these Haunters, but Hitmontop had to stay on Gengar. Now if only he could reach his belt.

And a Golurk

With the gengar acting all tough by cursing everyone around him, Pan had a feeling that he was actually quite weak. At least, that’s how it usually worked out in the movies. Still, the ghost launched a powerful attack to prove that he wasn’t all talk. She dived out of the way as the dark pulse attack hurdled towards the group. Through the dust cloud, the researcher could not see what happened to the others. The only thing she did notice was her golurk’s silhouette rapidly descending upon her. Droid had fainted, unable to control its giant body as it threatened to crush poor Pan.

“Droid return!” As if it was high noon, Pan quickly drew the pokeball and summoned the golurk back, avoiding any lasting damage to either. As the dust settled, Pan gave a heavy sigh of relief as she looked around at the situation.

“Justin!” Pan saw him getting manhandled by a couple of haunters. Meanwhile, the gengar was throwing a hissy fit at the other half of his group of minions (which did nothing to improve his image). Their prisoner had fainted, though Pan wasn’t sure what that meant. For the moment, her attention drew towards Justin’s predicament.

The researcher went through her team in her head to figure out who would be best to combat the paranormal fiends. Her eyes widened as she thought of her first choice: Turnip. In the earlier dream sequence, her venusaur was transformed into some monstrosity that attempted to eat them. In the adrenaline of it all, she had totally forgotten that that monster, the one that they threw into the abyss, was her beloved Turnip. But surely this was still all a dream. It wouldn’t be permanent; they’d wake up with everything back to normal. But first, they had to wake up. Not daring to see Turnip’s empty pokeball, she refocused on the situation at hand. During all of this, she did not even notice the attacking haunter coming up behind her…

“Fenrir! Clear the room!”

The arcanine materialized onto the battlefield, ready to save the day. At Pan’s command, the fire type bellowed a mighty roar to scare the haunters into dropping Justin. It also stopped the other haunter (the one going after Pan) dead in his tracks. As this particular ghost pokemon attempted to flee, Fenrir grabbed him with a mighty crunch attack, swinging the foe around like a chew toy. The ghost type squealed in pain as he was tossed aside like a forgotten bone. Clearly, his roar was no empty threat; as loyal as the haunters were, the bully of a gengar was likely not worth getting turned into a chew toy over.

Taken by surprise by the surprise attacker behind her, Pan ran from the arcanine’s assault and over to Justin’s side, lending a hand to help him up if need be.

“You’re OK?” she asked as the researcher looked over Justin for injuries (not that she wasn’t enjoying the scenery along the way). Her examination was quickly interrupted: she saw Douken facing off against the gengar, a dratini by his side.

“Where did he get one of those?” Pan wondered, watching closely but ready to send Fenrir in to help. The arcanine joined Pan and awaited for such an order, his muscles tense in anticipation.

Pan's Fenrir was able to take care of the Haunter that she and Justin were dealing with. However, there was still the fourth one, and it seemed like he was trying to pull out Douken's arm's off his body. Then again, it was only a dream, so the sensation of pain wasn't as bad, but it still made him scream. "Augh! Canaan!" In response, the tiny dragon moved through the air with her tail glowing before sending a powerful Dragon Tail at it, an attack so powerful, it made the Haunter lose it's grip and fly off through the rift of the dream. Stretching out his shoulders, Douken muttered, "That is a new one."

Gengar blinked before he completely face-palmed. After cussing them out, he ordered them to take the humans hostage instead, but now they all ran away shitting bricks. "God damn it, how come my brothers and sisters make such horrible minions?" Recollecting himself,he stared at the Hitmontop and Dratini standing before him. "But no matter. I shall kick your ass myself! But first, a gift from my old man, Cofagrigus!" With eyes set on the Hitmontop, his eyes let off a sharp glow, sealing off the Pursuit with Disable. "Now what do you do think about that, you little piece of shit?"

"Canaan, Thunder Wave!" With a swift motion, an electric pulse was launched from her body, paralyzing the Gengar. Things were about to get hectic.

"I'm, yeah, I'm- I'm good," Justin stuttered as he brushed Pan off of his body. "Thanks," Fenfir, her Arcanine, did just save him from the duo of Haunters and effectively dispatched the others as well. Still, Gengar should have remained top priority, and it just seemed weird that she would waste time checking for bodily injuries in a non-reality.

To make matters worse, something seemed off with Hitmontop. Justin looked over to see Hitmontop failing to pursue Gengar as Douken stood tall with his Dratini. Hitmotnop continued to spin, but as Justin called for him to use Pursuit, he just looked confused. Gengar did something to Hitmontop, and what it seemed to mean was that Canaan, Douken's Dratini, would have to finish off the paralyzed Gengar.

The problem still remained, though, that Dratini was far from a powerful pokemon. Burning within it was the heart of a Dragonite, but it is also true that many Dratini never even evolve. What it takes to become a Dragonaire and a Dragonite was unknown to Justin, but he knew that whatever it was was within this tiny dragon. She had that power, or the potential for it, and Justin didn't have time to come up with some epic strategy involving switching out his now completely ineffective Hitmontop (all his other attacks would whiff completely).

"Hitmontop!" Justin called out, garnering the attention of the fighting type. "Helping Hand! Douken, your Dratini's got this!"

It did not escape Pan’s notice that Douken’s new ally was on a roll. After sending the haunter out of the battlefield with a mighty dragon tail, the dragon pokemon unleashed a thunder wave at their main opponent. Clearly, the dratini was on a roll, but her strength alone would not be enough to finish the gengar. Justin had noticed this as well, boosting her strength with a helping hand from his hitmontop. Pan’s arcanine was certainly capable in battle, but it was far better to have two strong pokemon in this fight.

“Fenrir, Helping Hand, and get behind him!”

The arcanine let off a series of barks, effectively cheering on the dratini for an even greater boost. Fenrir then rushed around to position himself behind the gengar, dividing the attention of the enemy. Pan’s hope was to distract the gengar with a stronger opponent, giving Douken’s pokemon a chance to strike.

The small dragon was a bit confused on the applause, looking back and forth with a small blush. "Don't worry, Canaan," Douken told her, "They are here to help. Now. let's show that Gengar your full power! Use..." he had to take a brief moment to think about what a Dratini could do. She was strong, yes, but the question was "How strong?"

Good thing Canaan had an idea in mind, opening her mouth and forming a pale purple ball of energy.It was her Dragonbreath, which grew in size from Hitmontop's helping hand, and grew again from Fenrir's, making it's size massive compared to little Canaan. If she didn't do something fast, then the skill may flop because of the massive power packed behind it. For some reason, her body felt this too and reacted by glowing white.

"Okay, this is completely new," he muttered, watching the Dratini evolve in front of them. never did he figure he would enter a dream, befriend a dream, nearly die in a dream, get saved by a dream, and the friend he gained evolve instantly. Then again, this was a dream, so crazy things were to be expected anyways.

Canaan's body grew over three times in length, small orbs forming on her neck and tail as the evolution completed, showing off the full form of a Dragonair. Now, with evolution,the energy grew bigger once more, but she seemed to of been handling it quite well now. Fenrir, please get out of the way! "Now Canaan, Dragonbreath!"

((For those who care about the math, Dragonbreath + STAB + 2 Helping Hands makes it go from 60 -> 202.5. Calling it a critical will make it 405. Talk about hurt.))

The Gengar was cursing loudly at himself, trying to fight off the stiffness in his body to hold his arms out to block. however, with evolution complete and attack declared, he was looking more like he was accepting to take it than blocking. "Shit," he muttered before the blast engulfed him, the power sending him flying into the air (barely above Fenrir's coat), breaking through an assortment of trees before the wall of the dream, pinend against thin air and the Dragonbreath. When the move finished, there was a clear ring on what got hit through the trees and the Gengar.'s body into the distance, right before falling flat on his face.

With a smile on his face, he petted the Dragonair's tail, who in turned dropped her head down to nuzzle his cheek. "Great Work, Canaan." With the boss down, he looked over at the Cresselia before running over and checking on her condition. Though extremely worn out, she still had life. Even better, the cage that surrounded the moon began to shatter. "Now all there's left are the angry minions, right?" he joked to Justin and Pan, hoping that they fled in terror knowing that their boss was defeated.

PANE

And so it seemed as though it was over. Justin and Pan stood together and Douken in front of them. Canaan, with the help of Fenrir and Hitmontop, had seemingly defeated Gengar. Looking up, it was apparent that the dream world was collapsing as the cage around the moon was fading. Douken mentioned something about the minions, but Fenrir had already taken care of those. Justin simply looked at Douken and shrugged.

"And cut!" came a surprisingly upbeat voice from behind. Immediately, Justin turned around, and it didn't take long for Hitmontop to join the group either. There, in the branch of a tree, was a chuckling Spiritomb. It was, needless to say, unsettling. Hitmontop showed himself next to Justin, spinning on his head, ready to continue battle.

"What is it we're cutting?" Justin asked, feigning calm.

"The scene of course!" Spiritomb laughed, jumping off the branch Its stone fell to the ground and the ghostly body just behind. "Such a great film this is going to be. Comedy, drama, and of course tons of blood thirsty action! Unfortunately the camera wasn't rolling, so why don't we take it form the top?"

Camera? If the camera wasn't rolling, why say cut? Moreover, what camera?

Justin just raised an eyebrow and turned to Pan and Douken to get confirmation that he was hearing correctly. He turned back to the Spiritomb, somewhat lost for words. No one else spoke, so he thought he would. "You're about to explain what's going on."

With a cackle, Spiritomb replied, "What else are films for? Entertainment! I mean, seriously, those Deception guys are taking their sweet time to free me and my girl so I got bored. I decided to play a little trick. Convince that less-than-brilliant Gengar who is on the floor there to do this little charade for me. It was actually pretty easy, since he was after Darkrai's approval from the start. And you know what? It worked! Much better than i thought too!"

Justin took a second to process it. They were being played for the amusement of some ghost pokemon. And then he processed the part about Deception. "What Deception guys?"

"A band of gangsters called Team Deception. Plotting in the shadows, missions incognito. You know, some real 'spy movie' shit. Evidently, they're pretty decent at what they do if you guys never heard about 'em, but I can't speak much to their security if they let the Disciples steal me away. Don't they know how valuable I am?"

Wheels started to turn in Justin's head, albeit slowly. Justin had a run-in with Darkrai recently and he did mention that he was returning, and evidently there are those who want to capitalize on that. This Gengar likely had valuable information, but they couldn't exactly question him in here. Still, this was likely only the beginning of terrible things to come, and the Disciples that Spiritomb mentioned seemed like a bad group of people. They crossed Team Deception, though, and it's possible that this could mean pitting the two criminal organizations against each other.

Justin took a deep breath and turned back to Pan and Douken, leaving his back against Spiritomb. "Okay, one of you needs to figure this shit out, 'cause I'm seriously about to punch this thing."

Spiritomb simply laughed at the notion. "No need for that, kid. I'm outta here anyway. Cresselia, I wish you the speediest of recoveries. And to the three of you, best of luck. You've crossed the Disciples. Hope you kids are strapped. Anyway, it was fun, but I'm out." And with that, Spiritomb vanished and the stone to which he was linked crumbled.

And a Golurk

Boosted and newly evolved, Douken’s dragonair drenched the gengar in dragonbreath. Though Fenrir was unafraid of fire, purple fire was kind of weird, so he kindly stepped aside to let the attack do its thing. Soon enough, the gengar was knocked out, his prisoner finally free. The cresselia seemed to be OK (most other pokemon in that condition need only a quick trip to the pokemon center). The day was won once more.

“We’re pretty lucky with these evolutions,” Pan commented, immediately reminded of her golett’s timely transformation back in Petropolis. She too went over to Canaan and gave her a gentle rubbing behind the ear. Her arcanine walked up behind Pan and gave a quick powerful snort that ruffled the researcher’s hair. Smiling, Pan reached up to rub Fenrir’s neck.

“The haunters won’t be back anytime soon, thanks to a little help from Fenrir here.”

Just then, a cackle from the trees alerted the group that a spiritomb was watching the proceedings. Fenrir was ready to dispatch the ghost, but Pan held him back; the spiritomb was simply talking. It was revealed that this was an elaborate plea for rescue: the spiritomb, despite his seemingly good spirits, was stolen from a group known as Team Deception. Pan didn’t know much about that group, only stories from news reports that make them come off as hooligans. Still, she wondered why this Deception group would not come for their stolen pokemon. Before she could inquire, the spiritomb had disappeared from the dreamscape, leaving the group to figure out what just happened.

“I think he wants someone to come get him,” Pan commented. “I don’t know what he wants us to do though. We’re still stuck in this dream-“
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Pan darted upwards with a long gasp of air. She looked around and found herself inside what appeared to be a hastily-made tent. Both Justin and Douken were inside with her, along with all their belongings. It took a few seconds to realize what had happened: she had woken up. With the other two starting to awaken, they would all be back in reality (though the tent still needed explaining).

Immediately, she dashed out of the tent and started unleashing her pokemon. The first was her arcanine. Good. That meant he wasn’t still stuck in the dream world. The second pokemon was Frog, now a freshly evolved poliwhirl. After looking around, Frog gave a thumbs up as congratulations for getting them back. That left Turnip. Pan was hesitant to unleash her venusaur; the dream world had turned him into a giant mutant drowzee head, one that her golurk knocked into endless oblivion. What would she do if that pokeball remained empty? She couldn’t take the suspense any longer, and with a press of a button, the ball’s contents were revealed.

“Venusaur!” Turnip cried, still in his normal body and seemingly oblivious as to what just happened.

“Oh I’m so glad you’re not a giant drowzee head!” Pan cried out as she wrapped her arms around Turnip’s neck. The venusaur gave a very quizzical look at his fellow pokemon, wondering what was going on.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Not far from the tent, a drowzee lay against the inn, having failed at getting a meal from the dreams of three teens.His friend the gengar convinced him that it would be easy pickings. He was not expecting them to fight back, nor was he expecting it to hurt so much. He also did not see the pokeball coming right for him. Nearly fainted as is, the drowzee wasn’t even able to resist the capture. Soon enough, shouts of glee filled the air; a boy had made his first capture of a pokemon.

He was talking about the thousands of others that were sent after them in the first place, but no matter. They weren't coming back after a while, its a good bet they fled. Well, all but one as another Pokemon dropped by, more to chat than to attack. Looking at a plea for help, maybe hidden in the depths of his talk, but he did not seem to even fidget when it came down to entertaining himself. Playing all of us like toys, echoed the back of his head, not enjoying the thought.

In mid-sentence, Pan faded away quickly, closely followed by her out Pokemon. In a blink, he soon figured he was soon going to get forced out as well, patting the Cresselia's before he, too, along with Canaan and Maya, vanished from the world.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Douken stirred himself awake, looking around. For some odd reason, he was inside a tent with Justin, bags separating the two and one other spot. He bet that was the tent's owner, or Pan, who he could hear crying outside. Moving to get up, he head a click, and looking to the side of him was a pink Pokeball with purple designs, jsut like the one that Canaan was in when he fought the Gengar. Picking it up, the button flashed red a couple times before vanishing from his hand, teleporting to his home address. Blinking a couple times, he scratched his head before getting upp and heading out the tent.
For some odd reason, Pan was cuddling Turnip neck, crying her heart outfor him, Turnip just as confused as the Amazon. Though seeing the Golurk and Arcanine, he let out Maya to check out her condition. The dewgong came out, snoring peacefully with a snot bubble, using her fin to scratch her belly. he couldn't help but chuckle at this before petting her horn.
"That was quite impressive," a somewhat familiar voice said, the rich boy from earlier walking from behind the tent with a battered Ghastly behind him. "You can tell she is going to be fine. Look, the moon is even brighter than earlier." With the two looking up, they both saw the glow.
"But how did you know what we did?" Douken asked back, looking back at the trainer, who showed off the damaged ghost type.
"Salem here overheard the rumors of the woods and wanted to investigate herself. After I fall asleep, she was going to try and take me to other dreams, but the enemy got to me first. To investigate, she 'joined' the enemy side to find out." With the Ghastly's small muttered, the rich kid added, "She says your Dewgong is quite strong."
Walking over to Douken, the kid handed him a small box. "These appeared on you about the same time Salem returned to tell me what happened. I bet they are from her. Make sure you take care of them. Opening the box, Douken saw three moon-shaped feathers humans were calling Lunar Wings. "She would be ashamed if thy got lost. Still, maybe you two should get some normal sleep now. it is still 2 in the morning." On that note, the kid waved off before walking to the back of the tent and sleeping in his own sleeping bag.
Walking back over to Pan, he scratched the back of his head. "Um, Pan... I... well... I'm sorry for what i did today." He actually went and knelt before her and bowed his head as he was saying sorry! "It's just how i got used to running business is all. Connections with other Amazons is how deals are made over in my mom's clan of women. I can tell you know if Darryn said if he knew me, he could get some benefits himself more than saying he is a Master Coordinator." Then again, it may also bring down hazards as well. "Just... please forgive me."
With her response out of the way, may it be positive or negative, he got back up and handed over a feather to her. "I am sure this is Cresselia's way of saying thanks."
PANE
When Pan and then Douken disappeared from the dream world, Justin was neither confused nor afraid. It made sense. The dream was over, and they were waking up. He figured he didn't have much time, so he called back Hitmontop into his pokeball, giving him a nod of approval while doing so. It was taking a little longer than expected, and Justin found himself just looking down at Hitmontop's pokeball. His journey ahead of him was going to be rough, and his safety nowhere near guaranteed. The same went for each of his pokemon. Still, he felt secure knowing that Hitmontop would be with him the whole of the way. Justin was proud to have Hitmontop as his best friend.
And with that happy thought, he didn't jerk awake like Pan and Douken. He just opened his eyes and took a deep breath. After what just happened, reality just seemed so much better. Suddenly, he felt entirely capable of dealing with anything life decided to throw at him.
He made his way out of the tent, half expecting sunlight to burn his eyes, so he flinched at nothing. Then, he looked up and saw Douken proposing to Pan or something like that, which was interesting to say the least. He remembered that something happened between the two of them when he got to the inn, but never did ask what it was. That said, Justin stood back and waited for them to resolve whatever issues they were having before breaking it up.
"Yo," he nodded, his hands awkwardly in his pockets. "Pan, do um," he began, not really sure what to say. "Do we need to talk?"
And a Golurk
As Pan looked over her venusaur for any traces of a terrifying flying mutant, Douken approached her to apologize for their earlier altercation. Their fight over the inn seemed so long ago since their adventure in the dream realm occurred. Yet, here he was, apologizing on one knee and talking about his traditions. Considering what had happened, Pan’s anger over the event had greatly subsided, so it was much easier to accept Douken’s apology.
“I guess I may have overreacted,” Pan started, stroking Turnip’s head. “He’s your friend too after all.” The researcher accepted the lunar wing, eyeing with great interest. Before she could examine it further, Justin walked up to the two. It was time to get back to reality.
“Um, yeah, I do….” Pan got back to her feet, petting her venusaur one last time before going to Justin’s side. “I’ll be back,” she told Turnip and Douken as she made her way from the tent. Her fingers waved across Justin’s hand, signaling him to join her to find someplace private.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
They walked some distance from the inn, making it to the outskirts of the forest. They sat upon a bench overlooking Crescent Inn and the bright night sky above them. How should she break the news? Justin seemed like someone who wanted to get to the point (shouldn’t she know these things about him?).
Meanwhile, Justin’s mind was all over the place as he and Pan walked to seclusion. He had a feeling, but wasn't sure. It could be something worse. Hell, it could have been something better, but he wasn't so dumb as to be optimistic. Then, she looked up at him and he stopped thinking. He stopped hoping. Everything went silent, his heart as well.
There was no point in beating around the bush, so Pan just…said it.
“I’m pregnant.” Pan looked into Justin’s face, looking for his reaction. She was clearly nervous about what he would have to say, her eyes wide with terrifying anticipation.
A relief came over him. Not at what the news was, because that was frightening as all hell. But just a general relief of knowing, period. The wait was over and he didn't have to worry himself about not knowing. Now he had a whole new set of worries.
"Well, fuck," he said after his initial sigh of relief, then immediately realized the tactlessness. "Err. I, uh. I mean. What, uh." It was so easy to fuck this up, he was sure Pan would be okay with him taking a little while to figure out what he wanted to say. Then, it was clear. She didn't actually need him to say anything. Why should he say anything? He was secondary in this decision.
"What's the plan?"
“Well, I can’t keep running around Furoh,” Pan began. Her career as a traveling researcher would be the first casualty of this new phase in her life. It hadn’t really struck her until the words actually left her mouth. That was all she knew since taking her first step in this new land. Her next words were taken off the fly; she had no solid plan.
“I guess I could go to Petropolis and get a desk job at the museum. I’m sure the professor could put in a good word for me. I…don’t know anything after that.”
Just as she thought the plan would roll off the tongue, Pan blanked out. The best she could hope for would be a position as a secretary. At such a salary, she would almost have to rely on Justin to help support their budding family. The question was whether he had the same idea of settling down. Pan assumed yes, an assumption that wasn’t so concrete.
“I know you’ve been taking odd jobs around Furoh. Are you going to keep doing that? This may sound selfish, but, I’d like you to stick around. You know, at least, for the baby.”
There it was. Justin was entirely unprepared to have a kid. He was still a criminal, technically, and while it's true that many criminals had kids, Justin wasn't comfortable with either of those situations. "I, um," he didn't really know how to say what he needed to say. He didn't know how to tell her that he wasn't ready for this commitment.
There was always the truth.
"I wanna be around for the kid," he said. "And I wanna help with money, and stuff. It's just-" He felt his eyes start to tear up. "Shit, I don't know how to, uh-" He was going on like an idiot, because he was too afraid to tell the truth. "Okay, fuck it. I'm a member of a criminal organization. A group called Team Deception."
"Wait, wait, wait," he insisted before she had a chance to yell at him. "I'm working with a few people, we're planning on taking it down. We, um. We can't leave. All the stuff we know, they're not gonna just let us leave. So we're gonna take it down so they can't do anything about it.
"I just- I need time. I don't know how much, but I can't just settle down. I can't just walk away from this, because they'll hunt me." It somehow felt good to tell her. After all the close calls, specifically with the Mondo encounter in Lenolia, and keeping it a secret from her for so long. It felt good to have the burden off of him, at least the burden of secrecy. There was still the question of whether or not she'd still want him to be involved in either her life or the kid's after his confession, but that was her decision, and he'd honor it.
There was complete silence; Pan needed a few seconds to process what Justin was saying. She thought she had the biggest news of the night. Then Justin revealed that he was in some crime syndicate. This particular one was often the subject of news reports. It was this public view that the researcher was more familiar with, a view that didn’t quite line up with the severity of Justin’s situation. Pan was wondering if he was making things up to get out of their very complicated relationship. Still, she remained calm as she inquired further about his plight.
“Wait, I’ve heard of them. They’re on the news for theft and stuff like that. They don’t sound as dangerous as you say. What’s going on?”
"Yeah, they uh, they want people to think that," he said. "To think they're just thugs and gangsters. But these guys, they're in everything. That motorcycle gang who took over Lenolia, they were working with Team Deception. That's why Nate and I were there. And the foresters when we first met, those guys were members too. But they're smart. Smart enough to know that they're gonna get caught in the shit once in a while, so they play it off like petty crimes. No one looks deeper."
He sighed, not taking his eyes off hers. "It wouldn't matter either way. I'm a criminal, and the fact is, I don't deserve you. I'm gonna-" He finally looked away and brushed a tear from his cheek. "I'm gonna do everything I can to help with this, but I just needed you to know. I've made some shitty decisions, but this," he approached her and put his right hand on her stomach and his left on her shoulder. "This is not one of them. Pan, I-" He paused, his heart racing faster and faster. He took a deep breath to calm himself down. "I love you."
Pan took Justin’s arms and wrapped them around herself, her back against his chest. She didn’t say anything at first, simply basking in his warmth as they swayed left and right. Here, she felt safe; nothing could harm them. Was this love? Their relationship wasn’t exactly traditional in any sense. There were no first dates, nonsensical anniversaries, or special holidays together. Their paths crossed only occasionally, but on one occasion, they were forever bound together by the child growing inside of her. Indeed, Pan would always have feelings for Justin.
She wasn’t sure that love was one of them at that moment.
Despite the adventures they had been through, Pan knew very little about Justin. The revelation of his role in Team Deception was clear evidence of that. What kind of person would join a criminal organization, especially one with Justin’s heart? Even if he took Team Deception down, what would stop him from joining another? Was he simply a good person who made a bad call, or would he always be a criminal no matter his affiliation? Deep down, Pan didn’t think so. She hoped the prospect of a family would keep Justin going to the end. He just couldn’t take care of them right now, even if he said otherwise. Taking down a criminal organization wasn’t a 9-5 desk job; they’d likely never see each other. Right now, Justin needed a plan to keep Pan and the baby safe, to keep them off his mind while he went forward with this dangerous mission.
“I know,” Pan finally replied to Justin, “And that’s why I’m going back home, to Celadon.”
Before Justin could object, Pan turned around and put her finger on his lips. She continued, hoping her explanation would make sense.
“You’ve seen enough movies to know how this is going to play out. You go after them and they’ll come after you. They’ll come after you through me. I have family back home, so we’ll be safe there. You won’t have to worry about us getting kidnapped or anything like that. I promise to write or call or whatever. You do what you need to do here; we’ll be waiting.”
Justin looked down to his feet with some disdain for himself. Pan was moving away, because of him. She didn't seem to hate the idea so much, but still, he didn't want to force her hand. He didn't have very much else to say, so he looked back up, in her eyes, and nodded his head once. Pan nodded back, and together they made their way back towards the inn. All that was left now was to tell Douken…
What was the news Pan had to tell Justin that they didn't want him to hear? It was a bit strange, even for her. However, what caught him first was a yawn in his throat, his eyes slowly moving over to the tent. His body was still wanting sleep and the bed from before did seem comfortable now nothing was going to interrupt his dreams.
“Douken!”
Just as Douken was about to retire for the night, Pan and Justin were coming back to the campsite. The call to him brought him back to reality, turning around to watch the pair. The first thing she did was recall her Venusaur, who had already fallen asleep on his feet. With Justin likely listening in the background, Pan approached her travel partner with news, something Douken didn't really expect.
“Douken, I have some…news,” Pan began, unable to quantify it as good or bad. “I’m afraid I won’t be going to Gigarte with you. In fact, I’m going back home, to Kanto.”
"Kanto?" he asked, only guessing that would be another land region as well as her home. "What do you mean by that? Did something happen where you live?"
“No, everything’s fine,” she replied. “It’s just…well…I’m pregnant.”
At this, Pan went to grab Justin’s hand, a sign that he was the father, as well as that she was happy to let people know this. She turned back to Douken with a smile and continued.
“While Justin takes care of some things at work, I’ll be staying with my folks.” Pan was careful not to reveal too much of Justin’s career choice. It was far better to keep fewer people in the loop of his connection with Team Deception. “Obviously, I can’t run around Furoh much longer. I hope you understand.”
His mind simply froze form her statement. Pregnant?! When did she... It was as if now it was running through numbers and video tapes of his past to think of when this could of happened, since there were only a couple moments Justin had been around. It wasn't before the mountain event, or else her belly would be much bigger now (or even had the child already). Then there was the farm in which they were together often. Lenolia? No, he was imprisoned with her most of the time. That left only one last place...
"Don't tell me," Douken muttered, scratching his head, "that this happened at Pokecon." Sure he didn't want to die a virgin, but he didn't accept the fact of dying then either.
"Either way, what you choose to do is up to you. I hope for the best of your new family and that you won't forget anything. Make sure you keep in touch and cheer me and Darryn on while we are here." Something else clicked. "Speaking of Darryn, does he know?"
“It’s just us.” Pan said. “Oh, and Lyla. She was there when I found out.” She wondered if Lyla had told Darryn by now. Certainly not, or he would have followed her here. Pan would have to tell him soon, especially since she would be leaving Furoh. Then there was her job at the museum. Pan would have to talk to the professor as well. It seemed she’d be taking the southern route to Barley. Quite frankly, the researcher was far too tired to think about all the things she’d have to do before leaving. Indeed, the sun would rise soon.
“I think that’s enough excitement for today,” Pan elicited a loud yawn before finishing, “Let’s get some sleep while we still can.”
With a short smile to her yawn, he told her, "Agreed. We got another long morning ahead of us. And before I forget," Douken headed over to Justin and handed him his feather from Cressilia, "She had one for you as well. Let's try not to lose these this time, alright?"
With tired tears covering his eyes, Douken returned back to the tent, to where he had awaken from. Removing his glasses, he let himself fall under by his own will and rested peacefully.
((OOC: Sorry team, I just realized I was the one holding this up.))
Justin sighed as he watched, from a comfortable distance, as Pan broke the news to Douken. He seemed confused or devastated, one of the two. It was hard to tell, but he definitely didn't look happy. As Justin looked upon Douken, trying to figure out his feelings on the matter, he couldn't help but think of all the times Douken proved himself a capable trainer. In particular, the battle against the Shadow Zoroark was really Douken's shining moment, and it was against Team Deception.
And there he was, learning that he would no longer be able to travel side by side with Pan. Suddenly, with Pan about to leave, Justin was able to see Douken for all he could be: A powerful ally.
Now was not the right time to see if he wanted in on the action, but it was definitely something to keep in mind. And for that matter, everyone Justin had teamed up with in the past began to run through his mind. He wondered who was trustworthy enough, who was powerful enough. His mind was full on revolutionary at that point. He wanted, almost desperately, to take down Team Deception and to do right by Pan. She made it so easy for him to know what to do. Now he just had to do it.
He nodded goodnight to Douken and embraced Pan before she headed to bed. "Thank you," he said. "For understanding. I fucked up, and I'm gonna make it right. I promise. I'm supposed to meet Nate early tomorrow in the city, so I can't stay the night."
Looking into her eyes, he realized this was probably the last adventure they'd go on together. The last time they'd get to fight side by side, their lives in danger, Douken close by. He'd fight the rest of his battles without her, at least for quite some time. And the hardest was still ahead of him.
"I'll be in touch," he said. "Let Douken know I'll be in touch with him too."
And after some last goodbyes, he headed out, towards Arasam, where he'd meet Nate, who hopefully was able to make contact with the men who made their opposition to Team Deception clear.
“You come back for us, Justin Smart. When this is all over, you come back for us.”
That was the last thing Pan said to Justin as he left for his mission. It may have been the last thing she would ever say to him. She watched him disappear into the darkness, on his way to make the world safer for their unborn child. He had something to fight for now: a future that would not be possible with a criminal organization in their lives. It was that thought that Pan knew that Justin would not be turned from his goal. With that knowledge, the researcher was able to retire in peace.
Morning came swiftly over the foot of Mt. Carello, perhaps too swiftly for the group inside the tent. Pan had stayed up later than the others; she had to send a message to the professor about her plans to leave Furoh. The tell-tale beeping from her pokegear woke Pan up. In anticipation of the reply, the researcher grabbed the device and read the email.
Pandora,
There is a research outpost outside Lenoilia for studying marowak breeding habits. The cubone are about ready to hatch, and I’d like you to study what goes on during that process. Consider it a stopover on your way to Barley.
We’ll talk about your leave in person.
Prof. Stone
Pan was a little surprised that she had been assigned to Lenoilia even after announcing her departure. The museum must have been desperate to get someone down there. Though she really did have to go home, Pan was still quite eager to have one last adventure in Furoh. While Douken continued to sleep, the researcher began gathering her things in preparation for the journey south. As he woke up, she broke the news.
“Hey sleepyhead,” Pan began, packing up the last of her supplies in her backpack. “I gotta head back to Lenoilia for a study. And I know you want to head north to get your next badge…”
She didn’t directly say it, but they both knew that they were at a crossroads. Their paths would lead them in separate directions, ending an era of adventure and friendship. She didn’t expect Douken to delay his dreams for her, but she was hoping for one last adventure together.
PANE
A long yawn brought Douken back from his own personal dream world and back into the real world. By what he could hear, Pan was packing things away, possibly getting ready to leave. As she greeting her mornings, his hand went for a search of his glasses, soon finding them before placing them on. "Lenolia?" he asked back. "You mean that broken down town south of here with the biker gangs?" North was home and a badge, but the one he wanted to go was east. Either way, it would be quite the detour.
"But you know,"he said, mid-yawn as he sat up, "My dad always said, 'never deny the offer from a woman.' besides, it would feel stupid to hug you here and let you be off. You seem to be a trouble magnet and you know being reckless isn't safe for the both of you." It felt weird saying that, knowing about her child now, but time cannot reverse what happened. "I'll be sure to see you off properly. Now don't leave without me, alright? I need to do something real fast."
Collecting his things from the tent,he got out and headed for the hotel, where he saw Siegfried passed out completely. if he bothered to look at his eyes, it would of had the same pink fog in them, saying Cressilia placed him under. And with the boss under, they had no problem letting him use their phone and transfer device. After a quick conversation (about them in shock about the Dragonair and the lunar Wing), he had the feather sent over to be placed in his journey safe as he swapped out Rusty for Canaan. Sure enough, she was still in that odd Pokeball, but it was not like he would complain. Telling his goodbyes to his parents and thanking the stafff or the moment, he headed back out to Pan, letting Sabre out. "So, ready to go for one last adventure together?"
