Uprising Pokemon

After what seemed to only be a manner of minutes, the sun gleamed into a window, waking up Tyson and Blaze, his Quilava that just recently evolved yesterday. With a big stretch from both of them, Tyson slumped back into his bed, wit Blaze curling up into a ball next to him. Tyson felt as if him moving was a horrible idea, and decided that maybe a few more minutes of sleep wouldn't be too bad. Meanwhile, Hydro, Tyson's Squirtle, popped out of his shell and yawned loudly. After smacking his lips for a moment, the Pokemon got up and walked towards the door, trying to push it open. After he failed to do so, Hydro simply walked towards Tyson, pulling on his pants leg in order to get him up and open the door for him. Tyson, who already knew that Tikal wasn't pulling on his leg at this hour, simply half looked at Hydro, who motioned to the door. Groaning in frustration, Tyson got up and opened the door for Hydro, scooting him out as well. Hydro, not exactly enjoying the last part, walked to the lake to wash his face. After several splashes, the Pokemon inspected his face thoroughly. He noticed several things wrong with his appearance! Firstly, his skin had turned a darker shade of blue, he had a small fang, his shell was a lot heavier now, and what's worse he had EARS! Now he actually had to listen to the problems that people brought to him. Crying out in sorrow, Hydro quickly covered his mouth, trying to find a way to hide all of this from Tyson. If he saw this, he might release him for good...

After another hour of sleep, Tyson yawned and stretched once more. This time, he felt like he was completely refreshed and ready for the world. He patted Blaze on his head, making the Quilava smile in appreciation. He then looked at his Pidgey named Aero who, while far from quiet, was sound asleep. Next to Blaze lied Houdini, the trickster Zoura that just became an addition to the team. That only left...

"Hydro," Tyson looked around anxiously as he tried to piece together where his Squirtle could have gone. He continued to search inside the room, unable to find any clues as to where his Pokemon was. "Where could that mischievous turtle be?" Soon enough, Hydro came inside the door, but not looking like his usual self. Hydro decided to wear a bird's nest for a hat, two large banana plant leaves for pants, and a collection of other leaves for a type of jacket. Aero and Blaze looked at Hydro and looked at each other. Both of them laughed heartily, making Hydro very angry, as usual. In his rage, Hydro threw off the nest, revealing his furry ears and his sharp fang.

"Leave me alone," Hydro said to Blaze and Aero, his voice a lot deeper than it was the day before.

"Hydro," Blaze said, inspecting Hydro thoroughly before flashing a smile. "You did it, you've evolved!" Hydro instantly stopped being angry. He took off the ridiculous shrubbery and revealed his new form to Tyson. Indeed he did evolve. Hydro had become a Wartortle.

”I hope he gets here soon...”

About an hour away from Tyson was the local Pokemon Center, where he had told Tikal to meet him after his overnight training. And so she waited, sitting on a bench just outside of the Pokemon Center, waiting for Tyson to appear over the horizon so that they could continue on with their journey. Alex had mentioned something about wanting to continue another way, so he had bid them farewell yesterday, to continue on his own path.

Fortunately Tikal didn’t have to wait by herself. She met a trainer who stopped to ready his team for his second Gym battle, and had stopped to converse. To Tikal, his team looked fairly strong, with Pokemon that could probably knock hers out without even trying. Rather than ask for a battle, she instead asked for some help teaching a couple of her Pokemon new moves, offering a couple of berry treats she had prepared earlier in exchange.

Even as they chatted, she glanced over to her two Pokemon getting their lessons. The first was Tikal’s Jigglypuff, who was being shown by the kid’s Haunter how to induce a Nightmare on a sleeping Pokemon. The Haunter’s floating hands glowed eerily with black energy, which Jigglypuff tried to mimic, managing a fraction of the power that the Haunter possessed. Though a little frightened by the Ghost Pokemon at first, especially when it made odd faces and scary looks at her, she quickly grew used to its rather mischievous nature, even giggling a little as the once scary faces became more and more humorous for the Balloon Pokemon.

Not much farther away was the trainer’s other Pokemon, a Gallade. Standing next to him was a crimson bipedal lizard, with a tail that held a brightly burning flame. Since she had last seen Tyson, Tikal’s Charmander had evolved, becoming stronger after the incident with the rampaging Zebstrika. Though she had noticed that he gained a bigger ego, he still fortunately listened to Tikal’s commands, though not so much her advice. Her Charmeleon was trying to copy the Gallade’s fluid movements, in an attempt to learn Swords Dance from the teaching Pokemon. Time and time again he would stop, nearly falling over in the process when it came to the spinning part of the move, though too stubborn to give up, he would try again and again.

“They seem to be doing a good job, thanks for helping with their training.” Tikal smiled, thanking the other trainer, who she had now come to know as Joe. He chuckled a little in response, watching her Charmeleon quickly grow dizzy. “It’s no prob, good luck on getting another badge though, but next time try not to play at a disadvantage.” He grinned. Tikal had told him how she won her first badge, by having her Igglybuff face off against a fighting-type Pokemon. She had gotten lucky with the battle, her baby Pokemon having managed to stay in for as long as she had.

“So when is your friend supposed to arrive?” Joe asked, glancing at his PokeNav to check the time. It was almost noon already, and there had been no sign or sound from Tyson. Tikal let out a small sight and shook her head. “He said this morning, but if he does show up, he’ll probably be late anyways. Still, I don’t want to leave without him, so I figure I can give him a few minutes before I give him a call.”

Hopefully it wouldn’t have to come to that, and he would be coming into view any time now.

Uprising Pokemon

Sure enough, the sixteen year old began to come towards the Pokemon Center, with each of his Pokemon out of their Poke Balls. With Hydro leading the group, Tyson already knew that he was trying to flash his evolved form to everyone that saw him. Blaze, who rarely ever left Tyson's side, simply watched as Hydro continued to strut in front and flaunt his evolution. Aero, who didn't really see that big of a change, simply perched onto Tyson's shoulder as they walked to the Pokemon Center, planning to meet up with Tikal. The minute that they got there, Tikal was outside, teaching her Jigglypuff and her Charmeleon new moves. Completely intrigued, Richie walked over to the group, noticing Joe and his Pokemon. Joe noticed Tyson's team, including his second Pidgey(Houdini using his ability Illusion) and smiled.

"Hey Tikal," Tyson said, smiling widely without blushing this time. It was very rare that he didn't blush around her, so this time around, something good must have happened for him to be so calm. "I see that Jigglypuff and Charmeleon are learning some new moves. Hydro, who just wanted to be nosey, watched as Joe's Gallade continued to teach Tikal's Charmeleon the Swords Dance. Meanwhile, Haunter continued to work with her Jigglypuff to teach her Nightmare, making Houdini lose his focus on maintaining his form and more focused on the move. Although he couldn't use it himself, he at least had to know what he was up against before he dealt with it. He had been put to sleep before by the move Sing, and now there was a move to use that infected his dreams. He didn't want to anger Jigglypuff any more now.

Upon hearing her name being called, Tikal turned her head to see Tyson, finally making his way over toward the Pokemon Center. She checked the time, and giggled a little. “You’re a bit late, but that’s okay, at least you’re here!” Tikal grinned, springing to her feet with glee. Her short attention span caused her to quickly take note of Hydro before he could be given a chance to reply. “Hey, your Squirtle evolved! Congratulations!” she grinned, before digging through her bag.

“I made extras for your Pokemon too, I hope they like them!” with that, she pulled out a foam carton, containing a dozen little rice balls, each containing Oran Berries. “They taste good to humans too, so you can eat them as well. Anyways, what took you so long? It feels like I’ve been waiting here for you for hours!”

In reality, it had only been an hour since she arrived to the Pokemon Center, so her sense of time had been slightly skewed. Still, she was happy to finally see him there once more, so that they could continue on their journey. Glancing over at her two Pokemon, Tikal saw that they had finished training, Charmeleon now able to perform the same movements as the Gallade, though not quite as gracefully. And Jigglypuff managed to conjure up the dark essence on her own without help from the Ghost Pokemon.

“Alright guys, we’re heading out!” Tikal called, digging out her Pokeball and calling back Charmeleon. As for Jigglypuff, she had allowed her to stay out of her Pokeball for the most part, mostly because it was something she was used to. Plus the Balloon Pokemon was still small enough to be carried around to some extent.

Turning to Joe, she offered him thanks once again, before he recalled his own Pokemon. Jigglypuff waved goodbye to her Haunter friend, even mimicking one of the faces he had made, making the Ghost Pokemon laugh before he vanished in a stream of red light. With that, he said his goodbyes and started to head down the road, on his way toward his next Gym Badge. As Jigglypuff returned over toward the pair, Tikal turned her attention to Tyson.

“So what’s our agenda today?” she questioned. The female trainer didn’t have any plans, and from what she could recall, Tyson was still in need of the badge from Fidona. “I’m up for whatever you want.”

Noticing Tikal had a lot more energy whenever he was around made Tyson smile. She seemed to bounce from place to place, making sure that she got every bit of information out of her system before relaxing and allowing Tyson to ask and answer any questions. It also allowed him just to relax and realize that he wasn't the only one with his mind filled with ideas. He grabbed one of the rice cakes, looking at each of his Pokemon, making sure he remembered what kind of food Houdini liked. Blaze was quirky, so no matter what he ate, he enjoyed it. Hydro was rather sassy, making his favorite food the bitter Rawst Berries. Aero was an adamant Pidgey, which wasn't uncommon at all. His spice of life was obviously Cheri Berries. But what did Houdini eat? That was the question of the moment. Regardless, he gave the first rice cake to Blaze, knowing he would like it. he grabbed two more, handing them to Hydro and holding Aero's for him.

"It's not spicy," Richie explained to Aero, "nor is it bitter." Hydro sniffed the rice cake, nibbling it before deciding that he liked it and devouring the whole thing.

Springing upright, Tikal grinned as she saw his Pokemon eat her treats happily. “I’m glad they like them, they were the reason I was able to get the training done for my Pokemon in the first place.” She smiled, putting the carton back into her bag before slinging it over her shoulders. As she waited for Tyson to finish feeding his Pokemon, she asked once again:

“So... where are we going?” Tikal repeated, crossing her arms with a smile. Whenever she became overexcited, she had a tendency to become a little impatient. It wasn’t an angry or pushy impatience, but she would ask over and over if she didn’t get an answer within a short amount of time. She had tried to improve on this and become a little more patient, but whenever Tyson was around, it became very hard for Tikal not to become excited, or even a little flustered within his presence.

“We could always go find some rare Pokemon or get some training in. I would love to find the opportunity to get my Pokemon to use their new moves anyways!” she added, not paying attention to whether or not he was listening. Feeling a slight tug against her pant leg, Tikal glanced down to see her Jigglypuff, stretching her arms up as she wanted to be picked up. With a warm smile Tikal picked her Pokemon up, and held her up.

“I know, you want to try your new attack out too. I promise I’ll find you a match today!” she told her, before bringing her Pokemon companion into a squishing hug, Tikal’s Jigglypuff letting out a wheeze and squeak as she was hugged tightly, squirming against her grasp. Since the Balloon Pokemon was soft and squishy, Tikal had a bad habit of nearly crushing her Pokemon whenever she hugged her.

Tyson smiled widely at Tikal's impatience. He knew that if anything, she loved getting her questions answered immediately. Sometimes, he just didn't have an answer and had to come up with one so that her mind would be at ease. However, Tyson had one major goal in mind: Fidona's gym leader had to be battled today, whether he got his badge or not. Tyson knew that this would be a great way to train his other Pokemon as well as give his strongest Pokemon more training as well.

"We have to go to the gym," Tyson replied, hoping Tikal would not object to making another trip there. He wanted to have battled the gym leader sooner, wanting to prove that he was strong enough to make it in Furoh's Pokemon League and even challenge their Elite Four. Tyson began to tingle with excitement as he thought about the battle ahead of him. His smile never looked bigger...at least until a wave of pain hit Tyson's skull. Grabbing his head in agony, Tyson collapsed to the ground, with all of his Pokemon looking at him concerned for his well being. With his mind feeling like it was being torn in half, Tyson cried out in anguish, hoping that the headache would finally subside. He knew that Tikal was concerned about his condition as a clairvoyant, but if it didn't come with some price, it would almost be too good to be true.

“Of course, I’ll be there to cheer you on the whole way!” Tikal grinned, giving him a thumbs up to show him her support. She knew how much that gym badge meant to him, which was why she wanted to give him the confidence he needed to win his way to it. It was also the reason she never spoke about her gym battle around him or Alex, as she couldn’t help but feel that she only won because she got lucky. The last thing she wanted to do was to make it seem like she was rubbing it in their faces.

Her smile was quick to fade as he crumpled to the ground, running over to him as he gripped his head in pain with both hands. She had become a little more used to him having these headaches, knowing that Tyson believed it to relevant to some kind of psychic ability. Tikal wasn’t sure if this was true or not, but she still hated to see him suffer through his headaches. Almost immediately she proceeded to dig around through his bag, looking for the medication he took whenever this happened.

After rummaging through for what felt like forever for Tikal, she managed to fish out his medication, along with a bottle of water, before crouching next to Tyson. She opened the medication, before offering both to him. “Here, take your meds.” She offered, knowing that they were the only thing tha“Of course, I’ll be there to cheer you on the whole way!” Tikal grinned, giving him a thumbs up to show him her support. With his headache becoming less severe as the medicine began to work its magic, Tyson's facial expression softened. His eyes finally opened and were no longer squinted in complete agony. Finally able to stand, Tyson sighed deeply, knowing that these headaches never helped Tikal's constant concern for him. He honestly didn't know whether these headaches were really linked to his ability to see into the future, but he really wished that they didn't hurt so bad. A minor headache would be perfect for him, since he wouldn't have to take medicine for it. However, he realized that life never gave him what he wanted, just what he needed. Tyson looked at Tikal and saw the worry completely written all over her face, causing him to instantly grab her in a hug. He saw that she needed it, and he knew that she wasn't going to really stop worrying about him at all.

"Thank you, Tikal," Tyson said, sighing in relief. He knew that she was always would be there for him, since he was always in some kind of danger around her. Come to think of it, he barely talked to her when he wasn't doing something reckless in order to protect her, or dangerous in order to stop the villains from winning.

Tikal let out a small sigh of relief as she saw Tyson’s facial expression become normal once again, though as he reached out and hugged her, she couldn’t help but feel her cheeks redden from their contact. Whenever Tyson hugged her, Tikal couldn’t help but blush, which seemed to worsen whenever he actually saw her blush, and with a kiss she could go completely red. Though fortunately for her that was rarely ever the case.

“Any time.” Tikal responded with a small giggle, hugging him back in response. She held him there for a few moments before releasing him, getting to her feet. “So shall we head toward the Gym then?” she questioned, extending her hand and grabbing his, slowly pulling Tyson up onto his feet. Dusting him off, she winked at him, encouraging him to take on the Gym Leader. “I’ll be standing by taking pictures, so you’ll have memories of your victory.”

One of Tikal’s past times had been photography of rare and unique Pokemon, as well as the battles that went on between them. Lately she had been taking pictures less while battling more, but with Tyson’s upcoming Gym Battle, she would be given a whole slew of opportunities to take amazing shots with. Her hope was to fill up her little SD card with pictures to send back to her mother, so that she could see how her only child was faring in the big wide world.

“Come on... I’ll race you!" Tikal told him, ruffling Tyson's hair a bit before grabbing her Jigglypuff once again. "Last one there buys the winner lunch!” Not even giving him a chance to realize what she was said, Tikal made a mad dash toward the Gym, which was visible through most of Fidona with its position in the town.

Tyson was quite the lover boy. No matter how many times he held Tikal, he always got butterflies in his stomach. He knew she would blush whenever he hugged her, because he saw it. She had done this quite a few times when Tyson came into contact with her. The kiss that they shared...Tyson couldn't stop blushing. He would dream about that kiss every night, trying to find a way to be more macho and not blush as hard, but it never worked. Before Tyson could get out of his fantasy world, Tikal had already taken off towards Fidona's gym, leaving the love struck Tyson in a daze. Sure, he felt her touch his head and ruffle his hair, but he thought she was just doing that to be cute.

"Well, I'd be honored to," Tyson responded, finally realizing that Tikal had ditched him entirely. "Hey! Get back here!" With a playful chase on his hands, Tyson began to catch up to Tikal, looking at how beautiful the scenery was. Eventually, Tyson saw Tikal right in front of him, shortly after running side by side with her. "You're such a stinker," he told her as he began to sweat lightly. He looked forward to see that they were coming up on the gym, which was about ten kilometers away from where they were. Trying to increase his speed, Tyson zoomed by Tikal, looking back to brag. Although he was ahead, looking back was a major mistake, which lead to him tripping off of a rock and sprawling towards the ground.

Tikal couldn't help but give him a big grin. "Hey! It's not my fault you weren't paying attention!" she replied, picking up her pace a little to lose Tyson. Not too far away she could see the set of steps, leading all the way up to the Fidona Gym. She could still remember their earlier encounter with the booby trapped entrance to the gym, but at least now they had some idea what to expect. Though since they were racing up the steps, it would be much more challenging to actually pay attention to any traps that might have been waiting for them.

Reaching the stairs before Tyson, Tikal proceeded to jog up the steps, still carrying her squishy Jigglypuff in her arms as she rushed up left edge of the stairs. She remembered one of the pitfall traps that had been built into the stairs, so it was only logical that remaining at the edge was the safest way up. Even now Tikal could remember the trap she had gotten into, and how Tyson's strategy to get her out had involved nearly drowning her in the process. She shook her head with a small grin. Tyson always seemed to have a strange way of solving a problem.

"You better hurry up!" Tikal called, not bothering to look behind her as she quickly grew fatigued running up all the steps. "Or else I'm going to beat you up there!"

Luck was never really on Tyson's side. Not eve when he was younger, since he could never seem to make his Cyndaquil use Flamethrower while it was still young. Tyson also had a bit of a problem as far as luck with the ladies, usually getting blown off for the people that played sports alongside Pokemon. Because of this, Tyson just gave up thinking about luck and started using logic as the excuse. What made him fall? His lack of using proper logic.

Finally getting off of his face and back onto his feet, Tyson bolted towards the steps, not even looking to see which ones were booby traps this time. This was also highly dangerous and seriously lacked logic. Nevertheless, he wanted to win, just to say that he did. He began taking every other step, in an attempt to catch up with Tikal as he made his way towards her. He still felt as if Tikal was so far in front of him, but she was really not that far ahead. Tyson began to gain on her until all of his surroundings went black. Tyson, unsure as to what may be the cause of this, simply stopped moving entirely. Seeing his Pokemon moving in front of him, Tyson also saw the four Turtwig brothers, with the one named Donatello walking towards him. Tyson, not knowing what this meant at all, simply scratched his head in confusion.

Once his surroundings finally returned to normal, Tyson realized that Tikal had won and completely ditched him. Slightly sulking like Hydro, Tyson simply walked the rest of the way up the steps.

"See? That wasn't so bad was it?" Tikal asked, having assumed since she first started up the steps that Tyson had been following in close behind. She paused, waiting a few seconds for him to respond, but instead there was silence. Blinking, she spun around, and saw that he hadn’t even gotten halfway up the stairs before he started to walk the rest of the way. She saw his sulking expression, and couldn’t help but smile sheepishly.

“Dont be sad! At least you passed me for a little while.” Tikal told him as she made her way down the stairs to catch back up to him, taking him by the hand. Of course the contact caused her to blush a little, which she both tried and failed to hide from him in her own embarrassment.

At least she wasn’t the only one who had such a habit. Tyson was not innocent to this either from what she had seen, his face having become quite red a couple of times already whenever they hugged, especially when she had first kissed him. As the pair walked up the stairs, Tikal suddenly had an idea.

“How about after this Gym fight, we take a picnic and eat by the lake?” While she looked forward to the idea of the two of them having a picnic, Tikal figured that this was also a chance for her to spot a rare Pokemon. She had been doing a little reading since she came to the island, and according to the books she read, this place was supposed to be home to dozens of rare species of Pokemon. A couple of sources even rumoured that wild Dragon Pokemon could be found, making her all the more anxious to go look for once, so that she could start her dream as a Dragon Trainer.

Tyson's face never seemed to stop turning red from the contact he had with Tikal. Whenever they hugged, kissed, even looked into each others eyes for so long, he began to grow warm in the collar and changed into a very bright peach color. He didn't have a problem with her touching him. He was just a shy young male ever since he was born. Is it embarrassing? Occasionally, but it has its benefits. Tyson's face turned redder when Tikal mentioned something about a picnic.

"Sure," Tyson stated plainly, "I'd love to go to a picnic with you." Tyson simply loved the term "picnic". Why? Possibly because it meant food was coming, but that wasn't relevant at the moment. "First thing's first," Tyson ran inside of the gym, his facial expression showing sheer determination. "I've gotta win this badge!" Not even three steps after he said this did a rope net ensnare him, hanging him from a tall branch. Face-palming, Tyson simply hung from his treetop trap awaiting some form of assistance.

Tikal giggled as she watched Tyson rush up the steps, breaking their short period of hand contact in his desire to get to the Gym as fast as he could, and battle the leader right away. With a less hastened pace she followed up behind him, watching her steps as they continued upward.

This hadn’t been the first time they visited this particular Gym, and whether or not Tyson could remember the fact that the entrance tended to be booby trapped was up for debate. But whether it was his lack of memory, or his sheer excitement to get in on some battling action, he soon found himself trapped in a hanging net, which swayed side to side ever so slightly with his movements.

She couldn’t help but laugh a little at his unfortunate predicament, not too worried about his well-being when it came to the somewhat harmless traps. Her Jigglypuff on the other hand quickly ran over to the net, examining the trap as she poked and prodded between the gaps in the rope to see if Tyson was alright. There were worse ones to worry about, such as the pitfall trap she had encountered during their first visit that proved to be potentially dangerous. Shaking her head, Tikal hurried up to the top of the steps to examine the net that housed her friend.

“You know, I kinda expected this sort of thing to happen.” She mentioned, acting as if she wasn’t in any hurry to release him. “Always rushing around when you’re excited like this, bound to hurt yourself.” Tikal started, speaking to him in a rather teasing tone. She continued, while wagging her finger: “Really though, you should be more careful about these sorts of things, especially when you’re out on your own, leaving me to wait somewhere on you. It wouldn’t be nice of you to leave me hanging when you’re doing so yourself. Tsk Tsk”

Pulling out one of her Pokeballs, Tikal grinned at Tyson. “But luckily you have me here to save you this time!” And with that, she tossed her Pokeball up into the air, allowing her Charmeleon to appear in a flash of bright light. Stretching a little, he scratched his tan stomach with a yawn, spraying a few stray embers into the air. “Charmeleon, I need you to cut down that rope with your Metal Claw.” She asked her fire Pokemon, who turned to look at her. With a small sigh, Charmeleon turned to face the entangled Richie once more. Dashing forward, Charmeleon’s claws grew metallic and sharp, as he took two good slashes at the net, turning it into tiny bits of rope, and sending Tyson tumbling to his freedom.

“Great job! I’ll call on you again when we have lunch!” Tikal promised, patting her fire Pokemon on the head. Such display of affection caused Charmeleon to look away again, not wanting his trainer to see his little smile. Despite the attitude change upon evolution, he still felt somewhat proud whenever Tikal commented positively about him. He refused to show it however, not wanting to look weak in her eyes. He was too good for that after all. Straightening up again, Tikal returned him back to his Pokeball, before stepping over to Tyson.

“Have you learned your lesson?” Tikal asked with the same teasing grin, grabbing him by his shoulders and helping him to his feet. “Just... be careful next time. I’d hate for something even worse to happen, after all. Especially if I wasn’t around to save you like just now.”

Tyson couldn’t believe it. He had been caught in pretty much the same trap mechanism as before. As he sat in the net, he felt worse as he swung lightly back and forth. After being embarrassed for a second time, Tyson simply sighed deeply to himself. How could this happen again, and in front of Tikal none the less. Without another moment to sulk, Tyson was cut down from his entrapment. Falling to the ground beneath with a “thud”, Tyson simply looked at the Charmeleon, who huffed deeply to reveal small embers emitting from his mouth. Reaching out to shake the lizards arm, Tyson smiled widely to show his appreciation, which went in vain. Tyson simply got up and dusted the back of his pants off. As a bonus, he had extra dirt on his shirt as well. Today wasn’t quite his day at the moment.

“Do I really,” Tyson began to complain to himself, “have to deal with this right now?” Without another moment to lose, Tyson decided to keep pressing forward as he focused on getting his badge once more. Walking back along the path that was leading towards the gym leader, he came to a door, which surprised him greatly. “Was this door here before?” Without another word, Tyson decided to slide the door open, walking into a large room with a door on the opposite side of it. Without another moment to lose, Tyson immediately got up and bolted for the other door, soon being stopped by an Amazon. With a spear in her hand and her teeth gritted ferociously, Tyson almost was too startled to do anything.

“Leave now, peasant,” the Amazon stated, “no one is allowed to see the great Lord Maxi but his prized pupils!” Tyson, now sensing the true danger he was in, reached for his Poké Balls immediately. “Only those that can prove their worth in a test of strength and skill will be able to see Maxi the Great.” Pulling a Poké Ball from her spear, the Amazon began to smile darkly at Tyson as he prepared himself for the great battle that he would participate in. With a toss and a smack from her spear, the Amazon revealed her first Pokémon that would do battle against Tyson. With a lone Mankey showing all of his aggression, Tyson began to make a critical decision at the moment, which was who to use. Without any more hesitation, Tyson’s eyes began to glimmer as he pulled a small red and white sphere from his belt.

“Go, Aero,” Tyson bellowed as he tossed his Poké Ball into the air. After his feisty Pidgey was revealed, he immediately glared at an enraged Mankey flailing its arms. Immediately, Aero began to get aggravated at the annoying pig nosed freak.

“Mankey,” the Amazon called out, shrieking out her battle call in her native tongue. Obviously, this meant more than just gibberish to the pig monkey as he immediately attacked Aero by swinging his arms in a windmill like fashion. In a dodging fashion, Aero evaded the Mankey’s wild movements, positioning himself to land a decisive blow.

"Hey come on now! It's not like it was anything THAT bad! Besides, I was only joking with you." Tikal told him, though soon found herself speaking to thin air as Tyson took off once again toward the top of the steps, leaving her behind in the dust. After a quick three second stupor, she realized he had taken off quickly hurried after him, not wanting to get left behind again, especially in a place known for traps. She hadn't thought that the net was such a big deal, though it did keep her friend from competing against the gym leader, if only for a few moments.

Unlike Tyson, she didn't question the existence of the door, merely hurrying through to the other side to catch up with her companion before they could be separated. Upon seeing Tyson she skidded to a halt, barely avoiding slamming into his back from the speed she had built up chasing after him. Before she could scold him for not waiting for her, Tikal peeked out from behind him to see the battle already in progress, with Tyson's Flying Pokemon engaged against the Amazon's Fighting-type.

She remembered the group having to fight one of these people the last time they visited, but the challenge had been left to Alex. While he hadn't used any form of type advantage against his opponent, he had won with ease, at least from what she could recall, so Tyson shouldn't have any trouble. At least that's what she thought. For her gym battle, type advantage hadn't meant anything, as even playing against it had won her a knockout against a stronger type.

"Come on, you can do it!" Tikal cheered, wanting to remind Tyson that she was here to cheer him on for his battle for the gym badge, and even for the smallest fight, such as the one that was placed before him.

Bouncing around, Aero and Mankey continued to exchange powerful hits, with Aero's attacks being more devastating as the battle raged on. As the two trainers continued to battle, Tyson knew that he gained the upper hand. With Aero having the ability to stay airborne in his battle, the Mankey had no possible way of attacking.

"Mankey, use Smack Down," the Amazon stated before her Mankey threw himself towards the Pidgey, swinging at him fiercely before getting dodged and pecked back down to the earth below. Eating some of the dirt on the ground, Mankey began to get rather upset, beating his chest and gaining a rather large vein on his head. Violently flailing towards Aero, the Mankey continuously reached for the bird's tail to yank him from the sky. With each miss of the tail, the monkey got even more upset, soon leaping off of a wall to tackle the bird out of the sky. Not expecting this, Aero was forced to the ground, where he escaped Mankey's grip by throwing a large amount of dirt within his eyes, causing the monkey to let go screeching.

"Great job, Aero," Tyson told his bird. "Now end the battle with a well placed Gust!" Without another moment to lose, Aero used his wings to flap up a small tornado to render the Mankey completely unconscious. With one last shriek, the Amazon knew she had been defeated. Simply returning the pig monkey to its Poke Ball, she hung her head in defeat as Tyson grabbed Tikal's hand and pulled her along to the final area. As the waterfall crashed around Maxi Z!, Tyson began to sweat. Swallowing extremely hard before he continued to walk, Tyson's nerves began to get the better of him. He felt as if he wasn't anywhere near ready for Maxi yet. However, he came this far and decided that it was too late to turn back now. He was finally facing Maxi Z! after a long time of waiting. He extended his index finger towards the Gym Leader, clenching his opposite hand into a fist.

"Maxi," Tyson began before he regained all of his confidence, "I challenge you to a battle for your Gym Badge and respect!"

Maxy's eyes opened as Tyson entered the cavern. It was a narrow path, which led to a secluded beach, and just above the exit into the beach was a small waterfall, which poured onto Maxy's shoulders as he faced out towards the sea. The boy demanded a battle, claiming it would earn him both a badge and respect.

"Boy," Maxy said, standing and turning to face his challenger, water still crashing down upon him. "Defeating me in combat does not earn my respect. You are arrogant to imply it. I will, however, accept your challenge. Come. Your friend can come too, but she must stay on the beach."

He turned towards the beach and walked out as Tyson presumably followed. He walked across a bridge over a small pool and came to a stop on the opposite end of a large wooden platform where the battle would take place. He turned to look at the young Tyson and crossed his arms. He looked the boy up and down and grunted while thinking. His goal as a gym leader was not to stomp any and all challengers. It was to provide the fairest matchup to ensure that the battle was not decided before it even began. He needed to know the strength of his opponent.

"I want to fight my challengers at their absolute best. Pokemon battling consists of leading a team, and I would not want to deny you a portion of your team, else they may lose their dynamic. I want you to give me all you have, and after I defeat you, I don't want you to say 'if only I could have used another pokemon.' Present your team to me, up to six. This will allow me to give you the fairest matchup possible.
