So I found this bootleg of Emerald version on YouTube, and after a little digging, I've been playing it myself. There's an ongoing LP of it, but I only watched the first few minutes of the first episode, because I want to experience this completely blind.

The title screen is already promising.


Professor Birch has at least two names in this game. One is this, and the other is seen in the next three screenshots.

I'm not sure whether this was properly translated by some miracle, or the original Japanese version of the game already had this menu in English.


The names of the badges may actually be an improvement.


PantsChild is still my favorite, but TennisMaid is pretty great too.

I have a habit of challenging Brawly before I'm ready, and I'm not sure why I never learn from this mistake. But it was worth it, to see this oddly poetic interpretation of "Alice whited out!".


For fun, I decided to see what would happen if I tried to catch a trainer's Pokemon. The Department of Redundancy Department would be proud.


Finally, here's my favorite renamed Pokemon. I caught a Cascoon just for the name, and would have caught an Abra if I could have found a female.

Honestly, it's probably miles better than Vietnamese Crystal. Such poetic translations. XD

In all seriousness though, that bit of me on the inside is just crazy enough to really want to give it a try because I'm a bit of a sap for bootleg games. They always seem to offer some of the most diamond in the rough kind of material to laugh at and maybe even quote.

Me too looked for this rom online for a long time and couldn't find it. This Pokemon rom was covered by a few YouTubers between 2014 and 2015. I came close to finding it through a site called "vizzed.com" where they say you can play it online under the title "Pocket Monster - Pokemon Emerald at (https://thefoodiegeek.net/pokemon-emerald-rare-candy-cheats/)". Nintendo took it down.

Any links I discovered were dead. Is anyone in possession of this rom?
