Beautiful Change

The dex info says that it always breeds novelties which is not the case. I have a regular magikarp breeding with a purple magikarp and they have had three children only one of which was a novelty. Do both magikarp have to be novelties to just breed the novelty or was it a mistake in the pokedex?

It's the precise meaning of "Always breeds Novelties" that's a bit wonky:

Say two compatible Pokemon make 3 eggs. The species of the eggs can match either parent, so all three could be the species of the male, the species of the female, or some combination of the two. If one of the parents is a Novelty Pokemon, there's a good chance that the species of the egg could be based on the Novelty's "canon counterpart", so breeding Snowy Girafarig with Eevee could make 3 Girafarig eggs, 3 Eevee eggs, 3 Snowy Girafarig eggs, or some combination of those.

However, if a novelty Pokemon "always breeds Novelties" - like the Jump Magikarp - then breeding it with something like, say, Goldeen, could make 3 Goldeen eggs, 3 Jump Magikarp eggs, or some combination of those; normal Magikarp won't appear. Likewise, pairing a Jump Magikarp with a regular Magikarp makes either 3 Jump eggs, 3 Magikarp eggs, or some combination of those. In other words, if the species of one of the eggs is based on the Jump Magikarp, it will always make a Novelty.

Hope that makes sense.

So if the jump magikarp is female then it should always be a jump egg or there is always a possibility?

Edit: I have seen other's breeding pairs and it seems jump karp and jump karp always make jump karps.

No, the eggs can be the species of EITHER parent, regardless of gender. And yes, if you do Jump + Jump, then the egg produced will always be Jump.
