Harry Potter crushes Twilight.

Books = Harry Potter.
Movie = Twilight.

Posted by: draconitas Aug 19 2009, 07:07 AM

HP went downhill after book 4. I thought Twilight sucked. :/
Same for both, w.r.t. movies.

Posted by: Lyte Aug 19 2009, 08:26 AM

Don't really like either. But I used to like HP. At least it's written that little bit better...

Harry Potter > Edward Cullen
Hermione Granger > Bella Swan
Ronald Weasley > Jacob Black

Posted by: Azuform Aug 20 2009, 08:01 AM

Harry Potter is a lot better than Twilight.

My vote goes to Harry Potter.

Posted by: Axel Aug 20 2009, 08:15 AM

There is no contest between these two.
Harry Potter beats Twilight. Hands down.

Posted by: Tessax3 Aug 29 2009, 06:18 PM

Twilight is amazing, the end. xD

...and if people actually bothered to read the books they wouldnt be voting harry potter. awesome.gif

I did. Which is why I voted Harry Potter. facepalm.gif

Both series got progressively weirder. Not fascinating-weird, but gimmicky-I'm-out-of-ideas-but-I-want-to-make-more-money-off-this-series weird.

Posted by: I Am RedVampyre Aug 31 2009, 10:55 AM

I love them both! I can't pick!!! *head explodes* okay, i pick harry potter. as much as i love vampire books (house of night! woo!) i started reading harry potter in kindergarten. ah, the memories, mom reading out loud as i read the page... taking the book from her and telling her she read too slow... good times. definitely harry.

Read all books of both series HP still wins

Twilight is a rubbish mockery of literature,
Harry Potter actually has a plot, and loveable, believable characters.
The choice is obvious.

Posted by: RyanRetarded Aug 31 2009, 05:25 PM

OH MY BLOODY GOD! walloftext.gif

Im on Tessax3's side here.

Twilight is WAY better than Harry Potter.

I watched the latest film, The Half Blood Prince, and seriously, it disapoints...badly.

It was ok... then the movies just got progressivley worse.

Seriously, Harry Potter is going down the drain.

But, ill be quite honest, the next film that comes out may save it all.

Ive read bit of the books in Twilight, and its awesome! Stephanie Meyer is a really good writer.

So, my points made, Twilight pwns. xD

BTW, is all the people who have voted for Harry Potter so far from the USA?
Because here in the UK, Twilight REALLY does pwn all xD

AYE. I shuddered through the first Twilight book, then gave up after paragraph 1 of the second. Harry Potter was enjoyable for a few books, at least.

For the record, I'm from neither the UK, nor the US, and where I am, the fanbase is about evenly split. Though it seems that Twilight fans are more the younger children, while HP has more of the older teenagers.

Posted by: Metallicar Aug 31 2009, 10:51 PM

Harry Potter, hands down.

I've read Twilight (and it's three sequels) but I can't see why it's so great and the all the hype about it. Maybe it's cause I have a thing against sparkly vampires >___>;;

This Scottish woman is not bloody amused.

Twilight has one advantage over Harry Potter. It started off in the drain; fans may not be able to notice exactly where the books got worse. Stephenie Meyer is not a good writer. I struggled to get through Twilight because the grammatical failure made the writer in me want to hit her with the literary travesty.

Im still going for harry potter, even if it did get 'weirder'.

Oh guys did you know Robert Pattinson hated Edward srsfacts.gif

hurr awesome.gif

Edit:

Yes Im from the USA, but do you have ANY idea how much the kids talk about twilight over here. Its mega annoying for me just to walk into a library and hear a Clique go 'OMG LOL TWILIGHT OMG LOL ISNT EDWARD HOT LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL'

I just want to look for paranormal books I dont want to hear you talk about how twilight is the BOMB. If its a bomb why is it in the library?

Posted by: Jools Sep 1 2009, 12:48 PM

Speaking as a third party neutral Im-not-getting-involved-in-a-big-debate person I think Twilight has the edge here, I'm not obsessed with either, like SOME people *glares in general direction* (You guys know who you are), the books are as good as each other but the twilight films have an edge, but in comparison to the books the movies are crap.

Yes, I like BOTH =P

Posted by: Micaiah Sep 2 2009, 03:36 AM

Both Books and Movie, I would say Harry Potter is better, hands down xD I don't really like the characters in Twilight, I don't find much humour, and I really don't like style and quality of writing either.... only my opinion though!

Posted by: LBopoly Sep 7 2009, 11:44 AM

Harry Potter. They aren't even comparable...

Posted by: Raven DeVanos Sep 8 2009, 05:04 PM

I prefer Harry potter over Twilight because there's really one big thing about Twilight that irks me. I'm an old scool vampire lover. I don't think vampires should sparkle in sunlight, I think they should become weak or, A La Buffy Verse, explode into flames/ash. XD XD

Besides, Harry Potter was very entertaining.

Posted by: Sukuhi Sep 10 2009, 06:10 PM

I cracked up at the two lone Twilighters. They're fighting a losing battle - at least in this thread.

The HP series...such wonderful memories. After five years of fluctuating mania, I still adore it.

The Twilight series...I finished reading it before most people started. No offense to vampires, but magic is so much more intriguing. And it's more believable. But let's not start a fight on whether magic really exists.

When I first started Twilight, I was so excited because it was the first series I had been able to get into since Harry Potter. I finished reading the first and loved it. I started New Moon...and it went downhill. I hated New Moon. It was boring, Bella was a wreck - and no fun to read about, and the canon pairing was broken up. I had to be forced by my friends to finish it after going on a two-week hiatus. Eclipse ended oddly, and I wanted nearly everyone dead by the end of Breaking Dawn.

(Don't even get me started on the movies.)

I think it's pretty obvious which I voted for. Point blank - Harry Potter.

Posted by: Sarabi Sep 10 2009, 07:02 PM

Who the hell needs a Sparkly-Vampire-Teen-Erotica book when you've got freakin' Minerva McGonagall and Sirius Black?

I have every right to denounce the Twilight series because I read the whole damn thing and hated every minute of it. I've read the entire Harry Potter series, and loved every letter. Even though, I still don't believe Sirius is dead because there's no proof. Even if he never reappears in the series, at least he's not dead. awesome.gif

Posted by: Outsane Sep 11 2009, 04:37 PM

Harry Potter hands down. I'm not even going to go in depth on why this shouldn't be a contest because I don't want to offend anyone or turn this into a huge debate over some books. I'll list a few reasons why Twilight is bad though:

1. No plot.
2. No character develpoment.
3. The vampires are disco balls.
4. Smeyer is incapable of using big girls words and constantly repeats herself.
5. Bella's minute to minute life takes the center stage. I'm not interested that it took her 10 mins to eat a sandwich.

That's about it from me for now, I might add more later when I'm not so tired. But the boy with the magic wand beats the body glittered pretty boy anyday.

Posted by: Allmah Sep 13 2009, 05:28 PM

I voted for Harry Potter. Twilight is just... ugh, bad. I've read both series, and though I don't claim HP are the best books or it's the best series, it far outstrips Twilight for believability and adequate writing.

Posted by: nkl93 Sep 13 2009, 05:38 PM

Harry Potter

I liked the Twilight series, before they got over obsessed popular.

Posted by: Kiseki Lin Sep 13 2009, 06:23 PM

Harry Potter captivates me more than Twilight does, so Harry Potter it is.

Posted by: Fappucino Sep 14 2009, 09:34 PM

Harry Potter > Twilight. Everyday in my life.

I'm not really into books, but HP caught my attention when I was a kid and I enjoyed the movies and the first book.

-RANT MODE-
And Twilight...no just terrible. I picked up the book for two seconds, and it was TERRIBLE.
I hated it. I hated it for it's popularity, it's movie has taken over my cousin's and my own best friend's mind.
The franchise has spat, punched, and stomped on my favorite band, Muse. I hated the fangirls and damn SMeyer for liking them.
Book itself, is a bad influence, IT PUSHED BACK FEMINISM.
It's teaches young tweens to be whiny brats if their boyfriends leaves them.

I can just stop from here, but I have more reasons I detest Twilight.
Pretty much Stephen King can agree right?
"Stephanie Meyer can't write a darn."

Posted by: Raistlin24 Sep 22 2009, 07:06 AM

I enjoyed reading both, but I think Harry Potter is much better than Twilight.

Posted by: bluejay100 Sep 24 2009, 07:00 PM

I choose Harry Potter, only because I have never read Twilight. I see no reason to pick up the books.

Posted by: GreenEclipse Sep 26 2009, 01:44 PM

I dont like both of them specially Twilight worried.gif

Posted by: TaibhseMorgana Sep 26 2009, 09:31 PM

....Harry Potter, hands down.

To quote a lovely list on 100 Reasons Harry Potter is Better than Twilight, which can be found on the TwilightSucks.com forums...

"84. Because Dobby the House-Elf would make a better boyfriend than Edward Cullen. He listens to you, is loyal and brave, and would do anything to help you."

It's true.

Now, I'll admit, I liked Twilight when it first came out - in... 2005? I think. I was in the eighth grade and no one - I mean no one - had heard of it. I choked through New Moon, and I couldn't read Eclipse without wanting to vomit (though I HAVE read snarky chapter-by-chapter summaries online...).

Posted by: Focus Aipom Sep 26 2009, 09:47 PM

My choice would definately be Harry Potter.

Posted by: Nymphadora Sep 26 2009, 09:53 PM

TWILIGHT

I was on my bed reading the book, I had my nintendo ds sitting on my chest and it was jumping up and down coz my heart was pounding really hard and really fast.

Posted by: Blue October Sep 27 2009, 12:57 AM

Harry Potter. The fans are less annoying.

Posted by: suzyk Sep 28 2009, 06:16 PM

Jesus Christ, is every forum affected by Twilight? Noooo

I only liked the first, second and third HP books. But come on, Twilight. Just... just gross.

Also, hating Twilight is an old, forced meme.

Posted by: kazzaz Sep 28 2009, 06:31 PM

I like twilight more.I dunno why so dont ask.

Posted by: PikachuMaster Sep 28 2009, 07:42 PM

Harry Potter!

When I first read Twilight, I thought it was okay. After awhile, I started to agree with my best friend, who hates Twilight. Especially after people around my school started getting obsessed with it. It's not that great, in my opinion...

I've always liked the Harry Potter series, though. Magic is awesome~ magic.gif

Posted by: ThePaul Sep 29 2009, 05:41 PM

Harry Potter > Twilight

It's at least a descent story, even if it blew up bigger than it should have.
Twilight isn't a good story, and its rise to fame confuses me so.

Posted by: Tuketi Oct 5 2009, 11:10 AM

HP definitely wins... I haven't even read Twilight, but the small snippets I've had the displeasure of reading have been terrible. It's a Mary Sue... through and through. And even Patts can't save it. :P

HP, on the other hand... well, Harry himself and his friends annoy me. In fact most of the books annoy me. It's the Marauders I live for.

Posted by: Scenery Oct 5 2009, 11:25 AM

Harry Potter is better :-D

Posted by: Libie Oct 6 2009, 07:01 AM

Posted by: AwesomeGuyX3 Oct 9 2009, 11:55 PM

Harry Potter.

Posted by: Pokefunguy Oct 10 2009, 08:22 AM

The last three Harry Potter books were rubbish though...

Yes, I said rubbish. xD

Posted by: Usagi Zakura Oct 10 2009, 08:43 AM

I liked the first couple of books of Twilight... Sure the first part of New Moon was weird and since then it went downhill and the last book is full of squick....

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone was quite good.
Chamber of Secret is possibly my least favorite but it doesn't suck.
Prisoner of Azkaban was oh.gif (Second favorite)
Goblet of Fire was quite good, but the movie did a horrible crime by skipping the Quidditch Cup. I was looking forward to that darnit >:(
Order of the Phoenix killed of my favorite character, is among the longest books I've ever read (second to Lord of the Rings, but that is technically 3 books), it reveals that a certain (now deceased) person was a douchebag and it has the worst teacher in Defence against the Dark Arts ever, whom I hated with a passion. It is also my favorite book because of the treatment said teacher gets, Fred and George are awesome, flashback to James Potter as a teenager, and "It unscrews the other way". If you read the book you'll realize why that line is so awesome.
Half Blood Prince has a title I don't really think fits it, but despite that its still good, and reveals many interesting events from Voldemort's childhood:3
The Deathly Hollows... hard to say about this one, I only read it once when it was first released (I'm re-reading it now...or hearing it, I got an MP3-book to listen to at work). It takes "Anyone can die" literally and kills...I'm not gonna say who, it'll take forever to list anyway:/ More than one struck me as "She didn't kill...oh crap she just did..." And the Epilogue doesn't suck >:(

More reasons why HP is great is the amount of foreshadowing in earlier books.
Even veeeeery tiny details from the earliest books that you don't think twice about when you read them can turn out to be extremely important later. The tiniest details... Even Scabbers the rat or a random necklace.

So is there any competition?
No. Harry Potter is just that awesome.

Posted by: pokemonrulez435 Oct 11 2009, 05:41 PM

Here's the Harry Potter/Twilight conflict as a nerd (namely, me) would see it.

If Harry Potter>Voldemort, and Voldemort>Cedric Diggory, and Cedric Diggory=Edward, and Edward=Twilight, then Harry Potter > Twilight. Simple math.

Posted by: Pokemonmaster345 Oct 11 2009, 07:57 PM

Totally agree with pokemonrulez435. Don't really get the whole hype about Twilight. I mean, the books aren't that bad, but they aren't very good, either. On the other hand, I've been interested in Harry Potter since I was 5 years old. And they're still good.

Posted by: ShiroYume Oct 14 2009, 10:10 AM

Harry Potter is a classic. End of discussion.

Just kidding ^^ I just think that a series which makes teenage girls and older crazy about vampires (which are all extraordinarily beautiful and sparkle in sunlight x(.gif ) and constantly hope for their "vampire charming" to come along, has nothing on a series that has inspired and charmed both girls and boys, young and old, makes ten-year old children wish to get a Hogwarts letter on their birthday and even let critical topics such as discrimination and the uselessness of bureaucracy and corruption flow in. In addition, it has inspired me to start reading books in English, since several years ago, I was far too impatient and in love with the series to wait for the German version to come out...

My friend loves the Twilight series. I simply can't understand why.

Posted by: Team Destroy Oct 14 2009, 12:07 PM

Harry Potter beats Twilight
By a huge margin

Posted by: tobio6164 Oct 16 2009, 12:55 AM

totally harry potter all the way i aggree with all the people who posted on this page whats the deal with twilight?

Posted by: Asper Kaos Oct 16 2009, 03:39 PM

Neither. I have never opened a Harry Potter book or Twilight book and I plan on keeping it that way. Twilight sucks though.

Posted by: ShinyAchamo Oct 24 2009, 10:40 AM

Harry Potter.

If it was Twilight or Eragon, it would be a little harder for me to pick, since I view them on almost the same level, and depending on mood and how much I want to critique them for their faults. Both ideas would have been better off if someone other than their authors wrote them.

And the Eragon movie that sucked worse than the Inheritance trilogy as it went on? The script was written by Paolini as well. How sad. He managed to botch the movie version of his own book.

Anyways, Twilight gets my no. Because:

A) I don't want to read a book where over 70% of paragraphs mention Edward's eyes as "liquid pools of gold", his chest as "perfectly sculptured like marble, and smooth to the touch", all the stone-statue references, how sweet Edward is when he's controlling and manipulating and forcing Bella to do what he wants, regardless of her wishes (which half the time are basically suicidal or stupid), when his ideas are actually just as bad as hers.

B) I don't want to read anything where the main character has something unique that makes love interest fall in love with them. I want something where chance happens to put them together and they realize the really good and lasting qualities about each other. Namely, personality. Something I feel is skimmed over in Twilight just to mention Edward's amazing good looks.

C) I read Twilight when it was uncool to read Twilight, and even then it was just okay. I only really enjoyed Alice and Jacob, Rosalie and Emmett, and Jasper. Or just basically anybody but the really main characters. That's still how I feel about it pretty much. I really could care less about Edward and Bella. And really, it's popular because Edward is supposed to be the ideal person to fawn over and fall in love with. He's not. Everyone has issues. Edward, as Rob Patterson put it, is "manic depressive".

D) I don't see why if you ask someone if they want to be in a relationship with someone who stalks them, watches them sleep, breaks into their house, they'll give you a no, but if it's Edward, they're all "OMG yes!!" and chew you out for describing him that way.

E) The website Impish Idea can probably sum up what's wrong with Twilight (and Eragon) much better than I can.

F) Why do the religious radicals not make a big deal about Twilight being about falling in love with vampires, who according to the main vampire, have no souls (even I don't believe him, and I honestly want to believe he has no soul)? Because it deals with temptation, and abstinence. You have the apple on the front to represent temptation, and throughout the series, Edward the omnipotent virgin resisting the temptation Bella is, both in blood and body.

Now, Harry Potter:

A) Why was Harry Potter a big deal to the religious radicals? Because it deals with magic. Nevermind that Harry is supposed to overcome the significant evil in our world. I could write a book about the parallels between Harry Potter and biblical stories. In fact, there is a book out there somewhere about it, and if I remembered the name, I'd gladly tell you. It's a great read as well.

B) The characters aren't flat. They aren't "I'm conflicted about this, so I must do this." They really struggle with the decisions. They do stupid things sometimes, yes, but everyone does. They're teenagers with the ability to fly a car or teleport. But, it's their thought processes and how they use reasoning with the world around them that give them dimension.

C) I don't like all the Harry Potter books. In fact, after I read the sixth one, my parents got the seventh for me on the day it came out. I never touched it until about six months ago, because I was afraid it would let me down. I really hate the sixth one, and the seventh one is a bit sub-par, I felt, in terms of the writing, but it's manageable. No long descriptions about why Voldemort is evil, we're given reasons and not just told he is (*cough* Eragon *cough*), we're shown that he is evil in his actions, his words, his motives, his destruction.

D) It's hard not to like the characters you're supposed to like, and hate the ones you're supposed to hate. I haven't met a person who actually enjoys Rita Skeeter. I have met people who hate Harry, or Dumbledore, or Ron, or Hermione, but I've met plenty more people who hate Eragon (the character), Arya, Bella, or Edward. Because the characters in Harry Potter are, for the most part, human. They make errors, they often try to correct them, they accept their failures, or obsess over them. You can sympathize with Harry, which is hard to do with Bella in between her fawning or moping over Edward or ignoring/being a jerk to her human friends. You don't have to sympathize with Harry, but it's easy to relate to him in some cases, as well as relate to the other characters (I relate to Hagrid particularly).

I've grown out of HP, but I hate Twilight.. HP crushes Twilight any day in terms of quality, characters and plot.

Twilight was filled with typos, inconsistances, the characters were flat and annoying, and the plot (or lack thereof) was abominable.

Posted by: ShinyGligar Oct 24 2009, 12:04 PM

The only intelligent responses I've seen in this thread are from Harry Potter voters.

HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM.

I've read the entire Twilight series, and only the first 4 books of HP.

Actually, I lied. I couldn't bear through Breaking Dawn at all. But I've read enough to make a good opinion.

Harry Potter wins here, absolutely NO contest whatsoever.

I like them both!

Posted by: PortgasGAce Nov 3 2009, 10:06 PM

I like HP than Twilight, even though I never read Twilight. It may be biased but I hear that Twilight is mostly about romance, and I'm not really interested than that.

I think its the magic-thing.

In my opinion it seems more like the religious radicals need to just teach their kids the difference between reality and fiction. Its not like most kids with half a brain above a certain age are going to think all that's in Harry Potter is real facepalm.gif

Posted by: Aira Nov 5 2009, 03:23 PM

I like both; Harry Potter is better in my opinion but I don't hate and bash Twilight into the dust XD;
Both had things I liked and disliked, I would probably recommend Harry Potter to people though.

I can say one thing I like better in Twilight than in Harry Potter...well the movies at least.

This:

This...

dumblook.gif

Note that in the book of Prisoner of Azkaban the kids are once asked to tell the difference between werewolves and real wolves, like that is supposed to be a CHALLENGE. Heck Peter Pettigrew has problems with the same question in a flashback.
In the movie...you'd have to be freaking retarded if you can't tell them apart. It doesn't even look like a wolf, it looks like a furry were-Gollum! horrified.gif

i have to say i much prefer harry potter. but if twilight has one thing over harry potter, it's the parodies. i love those. xD
as much as twilight fans can be obnoxious/obsessive/etc, the hatedom? far scarier. hating one person for writing a book is kind of weird. and creepy (yes, just as creepy as ~~~edward stalking bella. if not moreso. that is fiction.). while i don't like twilight at all, the dripping hatred some people have for it honestly scares me. :/

to be honest, i don't like either books. both of them contain raging mary sues and gary stus. i'm not a big fiction person, either.

Posted by: liliac Nov 9 2009, 05:30 PM

harry potter always

Posted by: Lilijka Nov 10 2009, 05:17 AM

I think comparing Harry Potter to Twillight is somethingthat doesn't have sence.

Well maybe if you would compare for example first books of each... maybe it would be fair.

How long did Rowling write all HP books? 10 years? Do you know how experience is she now as a writer and how much help from others did she get through all her books? It's like comparing Tolkien and Nix. laughing.gif

When I read all HP I like it.
Still Twilight made an impresion on me. Maybe because I'm older or maybe because I know how you feel in amazing romance.

Big Huge Critique (click to show)

I. LOVE. YOU.

I cannot express enough that I read all the Twilight books out of absolute, uncontrollable boredom. I needed something to read, especially during my Senior year. I finished all of those shitty books in under two months. (Thank you Government/Economics class.) I excel in English and grammar, and I've been forced to read many boring books for Honors and AP English classes over the course of my education, but even though I found many of the books (*Cough* The Great Gatsby *Cough*) to be terrible, they had FANTASTIC grammar and other devices at play. Stephenie Meyer writes about as well as I did in the sixth grade. No joke. This is also being kind of generous.

J.K. Rowling on the other hand, has a terrific writing style that is enjoyable and readable by young and old readers alike. I wasn't big on reading when the books first hit the shelves, but a few years later, I went back and read every last book. I love 'em. I'm not going to totally dote on Harry Potter. It definitely has some flaws, but it has less in every fashion that Twilight. I will admit, Deathly Hallows did not hold the splendor for me that the prior books had. Maybe it was the fact that Sirius is dead, or some other deaths that I shall not mention until the movie is released and I don't feel so guilty about it, but I just wasn't thrilled with it. The plot seemed sluggish, granted, finding horcruxes isn't exactly the easiest hunt in the world.

I've read all the books from both the series and can honestly say: Twilight sucks. Big. Time. The writing is terrible, the plot is less than fantastic, and I don't feel like reading about Stephenie Meyer's fantasies.

Harry Potter is definitely, in my opinion, much better in every aspect. The plot is VERY consuming and this series rates among my favorite books of all time.

Posted by: Butterfree Farm Nov 17 2009, 02:34 PM

My inner fourteen year old overrode my capacity for adult criticism and thought Twilight was just so cool. But I am a fan of Harry Potter first, last and always.

Posted by: Dexzer Nov 17 2009, 03:39 PM

Harry Potter. The storyline is far more interesting and detailed.

Posted by: Flamewhisker Nov 17 2009, 09:02 PM

Harry Potter DUHHHH

I voted before I read the first page of replies and I was honestly surprised that Harry Potter was actually winning! I see HP as a million times better, but its just with the twilight craze going on I would have thought it would be loosing.

I'm not wanting to offend anyone with these comments, but this is what I see of twilight (I havn't read the books, but I had my opinion made about HP before I had read it and it just happened to be right). Twilight seems to be a book for all those weirdos who I place in the gothic/emo catagory. From what I have heard its just a weird romance story and taking vampires out what they are known to be. When someone says vampire, I think Dracula... not some teen.

With Harry Potter, the stereotypical Wizard is someone who uses a wand and magic words, what makes HP different than the stereotype is his background and adventures, very creative.

Honestly, when I read about a total of 1 or 2 books a year that arn't school related, those books have to keep my interest. I started reading the HP books in 7th grade and after the first 1 (that took me weeks XD) I read the other 5 in such a short period of time, I was quite surprised with myself. Then when the 7th book came out, I did something unheard of for me...read it in a day O.o

And now for a rant....I am quite freaking sick of people saying that they are a vampire at school... PEOPLE SERIOUSLY!!! YOU ARE NOT A VAMPIRE!

/end rant

and BTW: I see some people commenting on Eragon... I have just recently read that, I thought it was decent, It could have been better in some places, but in general it got the story across and I made up the rest that was left out (massive imagination ftw, thats why some books bore me lol)

AND LAST THING: People commenting on how the movies are, if your commenting on how they look or how the movie is actually done (how well it shows the book) are two different things! As for effects, the Twilight movies are going to have better effects than some of the older HP movies. The first HP movie came out in 2001, thats a big difference from Twilight releasing in 2008 (both were released in Nov. so a 7 year gap makes a huge diff, technology changes and that makes effects better)

Harry Potter by a landslide.

Harry Potter has good morals, well-developed characters, a plot, and an author with good writing skills. Twilight has none of these. It promotes Mary Sues, whining, purple prose, bad grammar, suicide, abusive relationships, stalking, pedophilia, and lust as "true love".

Quil and Claire. facepalm.gif

And the so called justification of that is:
QUOTE
Jacob explains that there is currently nothing romantic about his feelings, and that Quil will be whatever Claire needs him to be at each point in her life, whether it be a brother, friend, protector, or lover.

But we all know they're going to (un)consciously get her to see Quil as a lover as I heard that when someone imprints and the target rejects the imprinter, they feel that crushing heartbreak where they simply get sick (of living).

I do not understand the hype at all.

If there's one thing I'm sick of, it's Twilight. And yes, I have read all four books.

Honestly, the characters, especially Bella, are cringe-worthy, and the plot is mostly non-exsistent. I've been a loyal Harry Potter fan for years! How can HP even be compared to this stuff?!

Mediocre novels + teen hype = Twilight saga.

Quite frankly, I don't have much of a favorite between either of these. But I think Harry Potter is undoubtedly the 'better' one. For one, it appeals to a more general audience, ranging from kids to the elderly of both genders. Twilight, being a romance series, would appeal only to the females.

Posted by: TheSonicLink Feb 8 2010, 11:37 AM

Harry Potter is better. But I think even Harry Potter has started to leave its tracks. The films are quite different from the books.

Posted by: Tymid Feb 8 2010, 11:56 PM

Yay, Harry Potter! The books are SO good, even though they just got longer and longer. xD That's good though!

The artistry of the writing in Harry Potter is phenomenal. Plus, the movies are comparable to the books, which is rare.

oh god I want to kill myself at the sight of either of them, but at least Harry Potter doesn't have sparkling vampires and bloody were wolves that look more like they are trying to impress each other than the girls.

Posted by: GalladeKnight Feb 11 2010, 06:20 AM

I read both series, but i didn't really like the twilight series. For instance, the second book practically destroys the concept of the first book, and the fourth book didn't have a big battle which made my anticipation very unhappy. There is also the whole ordeal with Meyer accusing the Vampire Diaries saga to have copied her series when they were written 10 years earlier...

Posted by: Silver in Silence Feb 11 2010, 06:31 AM

I admit I am a huge Twilight fan, but I'm sorry, JK Rowling is clearly the better writer here. The storyline was original, completely different to anything we'd ever seen before and seven books totally beats four.

I do like Twilight, and I think Meyer is a good romance writer, but there are elements in the series that are blatently copied from others. The True Blood series, for example. Their books were written before Twilight.

Oh, and to any Twi-fans out there, read her newest book. I prefer the Host to any of the Twilight books. happy.gif

Posted by: TheDulyIgnored Feb 11 2010, 05:55 PM

Harry Potter, definitely. It's a much more creative spin on the old concept of wizards than making vegetarian vampires that sparkle, and Harry Potter himself is much more interesting and developed than Bella "Your Photo Here" Swan. unimpressed.gif

Posted by: Dragonfree of TCoD Feb 13 2010, 05:08 PM

Posted by: Unskilled78 Feb 16 2010, 05:35 AM

No contest whatsoever.
Harry Potter is a competent story about competent, fairly realistic characters who one would actually wish to hang arround with.

Twilight is the repressed sexual urges of a middle-aged Mormon woman, who demeans men (Stalking you and watching you sleep is how I show my love.), women (I'm so empty without my sparkly Stalker), and vampire novels in general (Anything I said would be either an obscenity or incomprehensible.) All of the major characters act like cardboard cutouts with brain damage, and did I mention the Vampires Sparkle. SMeyer, you twit: why did you have to make them vampires? Why not make Edward Cullen a fairy (pun semi-intended) or even make up a supernatural creature that sparkles and requires blood. Hell, make him an inccubus and we're gold.

Posted by: crazyloser Feb 24 2010, 12:38 AM

Let's see...
HP has a real plot, Twilight doesn't. ("OMG MY BOYFRIEND'S A VAMPIRE AND MY BEST FRIEND IS REALLY HAIRY AND BUFF. EVERY VAMPIRE IS LIKE JEALOUS OF ME AND MY SHALLOW FAMILY!" is not a real plot)
HP has real character descriptions, Twilight doesn't. ('OMG MY BOYFRIEND SPARKLES AND IS H-O-T!" is not detail)
HP has flying broomsticks, Twilight doesn't. (self explanatory)
HP has real details, Twilight doesn't. (read the first chapter and you'll see what I mean)
HP actually has conflict, Twilight doesn't. (no, the 'battle' in Breaking Dawn does not count. Even a face-painting booth at a carnival has more conflict than that.)

anyone else notice a pattern here?

As where with the HP movies people of all ages are going. Plus the HP cast are a lot better at acting. Kristen Stewart can't act to save her life, have you seen her in Adventureland, talk about.... well better stop there that's a story for another thread. At the start of new moon when when

Posted by: Bones Apr 1 2010, 12:06 AM

Harry Potter by light years in both the book and movie sense. X[

I don't mean to be a hater, but just watching small clips and snippets of Twilight just make me cringe. The acting's from gawd-awful to mediocre, the story's just...I don't even know how to explain it, the dialogue's not very well written and the atmosphere makes me feel....dirty. Or like everything's dark when it shouldn't be, foggy and weird. o_o
The special effects are pretty lame too. The werewolf transformation scenes are so awkward and very obviously CGI, and the whole slow-motion to regular speed thing; what is this, the Matrix?

From all I've seen in the book, that's not much better.

I won't even breathe a word about the fanbase. *hides*

And ya know, for a franchise that several people have pegged as being, how should I put this?...An erotic dream for teenage girls, they sure do mess up the eye-candy scenes. That scene where Edward took his robe/shirt whatever that was slowly off; he looked gross. x_x.gif Robert Pattinson is pretty attractive, yet when we get fanservice.....0_0 I get it, pale vampire, but come on.

And I still don't know what everyone's fascination is with Bella. She has to be one of the worst characters I've ever seen. She has no personality, a horrible....lip-biting...habit..., and has about as much depth as a piece of paper.

Also, when I found an ad online for a quiz....asking me what I smelled like to Edward Cullen......*shudders*

Okay that's over with.

Harry Potter's storyline is far more well formed and interesting, the acting is a whole lot better, I wouldn't say awe-inspiring, but still far better. The dialogue, while some is kinda lame, is better and the special effects are awesome. 0_0
The movie actually makes you care about each and every character, whether main or minor and it makes you feel like you're involved in the storyline. Heck, even characters I hate (Such as Cho) I ended up sorta caring about when it came down to it. The relationships actually seem believable, the conflicts feel heated, the tension gets to you, the happy-go-lucky moments make you smile. I dunno what it is, but it has an air about it.

The books are classics, my teacher used to read the books to us when I was in sixth grade. J.K Rowling is a very talented writer who, like I said for the movies, makes you care about the characters, immerses you in the storyline. I wouldn't say they're the best movie/books ever, but they're still great.

Though, I never really got to express my enjoyment of the series that much. My Dad's one of those people who thinks it's evil and brainwashes people. Like, if your kid is dumb enough to be sucked into either fantasy world and believe it's real, I'd say the parents are more to blame than the movies/books. They're called FANTASY for a reason. I grew up on Disney movies, do you see me expecting my nose to grow when I lie? Have I ever tried to ride the throw rug in the living room, thinking I could fly around?

It's stupid. x_x.gif

Ah, got ranty. Have to stop that. Please don't be offended by anything said here. I'm not one of those people who makes fun of people because of what they like. If you like Twilight for legit reasons (Not because "Edward's Hot"...) then it's just a matter of differing opinions/tastes. ^___^

Posted by: Kingstar Apr 15 2010, 08:13 AM

Harry Potter is way better

Posted by: ValkohomeJuusto Apr 15 2010, 08:22 AM

I'll vote for Harry Potter.

I have read a bit of the first book of Twilight, and it was actually more boring than anything else. It does not suck, but it's just not my tastes that's all. Some of the scenes seemed too obivious to me.
People need to stop bashing how it sucks. Everyone has different tastes.

Posted by: PichuAreTehBest Apr 15 2010, 02:10 PM

Harry Potter definatly

Posted by: emmyy Apr 16 2010, 08:39 PM

Everyone knows Harry Potter is better.
Twilight is okay,,, but not the best.
Harry Potter goes all the way! happy.gif

Posted by: Kao May 1 2010, 09:08 PM

I prefer the Harry Potter books because I still felt like a male after I finished them, and I prefer the Harry Potter movies because the actors there have more than one facial expression.

Posted by: IceColdGlaceon May 7 2010, 10:52 AM

How can you compare them???? Harry Potter is superior in every way. The books are actually funny at times as well as sad. Whilst twilight... it's just a pile of crap tbh.

Posted by: Agent Arcanine May 8 2010, 10:12 PM

Harry Potter, of course. There really isn't much of a debate.

Posted by: Kaito Shion May 9 2010, 08:42 AM

Harry Potter > Twilight. 'Nuff said.

Posted by: ninja squirrel twins May 9 2010, 08:45 AM

if I wanted to see a vampire movie Dracula is the one I'd watch. Harry potter is better.

Posted by: Xeotu May 9 2010, 06:01 PM

Harry Potter!!!!

Posted by: fudgeygirl88 Oct 15 2011, 12:56 AM

Harry potter. Its so obvious. I might be team Jacob, but I still like th hp series better.

My cousin has read both. She is team edwad. But she is obsessed with Draco ( gross!!!).

My aunt likes hp. She calls herself princess snape( so disturbing)

Why does eveerybody around me seem so weird!?!

I like th third hp movie. magic.gif magic.gif

Werewolves are awesome. awesome.gif

Posted by: CloudCuckooLander Oct 26 2011, 06:07 PM

Haven't really read the Twilight series, but I've read HP and I very much enjoy it. I've heard rather...unorthodox things about the Twilight sage.

Posted by: chinqs96 Oct 30 2011, 04:17 PM

harry potter is just so much more beast.

Posted by: The Frozen Dictator Oct 31 2011, 05:04 AM

'Nuff said.

Twilight, in my somewhat rash opinion, is made for desperate teenagers who want a boyfriend. Harry Potter is made for everyone who wants a good book.

Posted by: BarkingChaos Nov 1 2011, 10:55 AM

Neither, but I can tolerate Harry Potter more. I used to like Harry Potter, but the 4th book made me lose all interest in it.

I hate Twilight fans. not all of them, just the twihards who want to marry Edward and stuff. That book rots your brain.

Yes, I read Twilight, unlike 99% of the haters out there.

Posted by: Grey Warden Nov 2 2011, 03:05 AM

This topic is flawed.

Harry Potter of course.

Posted by: doctorwho Nov 2 2011, 02:34 PM

I tend to be more neutral on the matter, but I have read the Twilight Saga and I am currently reading book 4 of Harry Potter.

Posted by: Lugia182 Nov 8 2011, 09:28 AM

Really dislike the Twilight films, thus I can't seem to get into the books. They are better than the films, though.

But yeah, Harry Potter hands down for me.

Posted by: Zero Degree Nov 20 2011, 01:51 AM

very simple harry potter will always beat twilight!!!!!

Posted by: Bandersnatch Nov 21 2011, 07:06 PM

Harry Potter mainly because I've not seen Twilight in a while

Actually my wife dragged me down to read every fucking book and every time I turned the page I rejoiced because I didn't have to read for a second.

Posted by: Ntrl Disasterr Nov 26 2011, 09:33 PM

Obviously Harry Potter! Twilight can't even compare.

Posted by: ShadowTheDarkrai Nov 26 2011, 09:35 PM

HP beat twilight any day and yes I'm saying twilight is bad it's horrible and i hate it

Posted by: Trueblade Mia Dec 11 2011, 09:23 AM

Twilight is kind of ok I guess but Harry Potter is super-awesome-epic-special awesome.gif There will never be books/movies like HP!

Posted by: quomimi Dec 11 2011, 11:00 AM

I'm all the way for Harry Potter, but I haven't seen the Twilight movies. I can't say I like a romance with vampires XD
Why does Harry Potter have to end..? >3<

Posted by: Elliot16 Dec 12 2011, 06:02 PM

The fact that there needs to be a poll to decide the outcome of this saddens me. Harry Potter all day long.

Posted by: zZGAMESTARZz Dec 13 2011, 06:10 AM

Harry potter, films and books. All day everyday.

Posted by: mptiger Dec 18 2011, 11:18 PM

Harry Potter hands down. I have read the Twilight Saga, at first I was a pretty big fan but after a while I came to my senses and realized that it's complete and utter crap. There's really no comparison, you're comparing literature to some woman's self insert story. :|

Posted by: Chiiyo Feb 6 2012, 05:59 PM

Harry Potter ... it's hard to even compare both of them. ^^

Posted by: Slade Wilson Feb 13 2012, 08:43 AM

Harry fricken Potter is super-mega-foxy-hot

--I hope you get the reference XD--

Posted by: Luneon Feb 13 2012, 10:25 AM

Harry Potter (duh) cat.gif

Posted by: Captain Epic Feb 15 2012, 04:00 AM

Harry Potter. Every time.

LOL, look how many votes Harry Potter has against Twilight xD

Posted by: Limi Feb 17 2012, 10:11 AM

I like both but I prefer Harry Potter over Twilight ;3

Posted by: Doctor Luigi Feb 22 2012, 07:16 PM

Harry Potter, it's epic

What currently disturbs me is that my LANGUAGE ARTS teacher likes Twilight
what is this i don't even

least most of teh people at my school like to bash it

Posted by: Zjo Feb 28 2012, 03:01 PM

I'm surprised that this is even an issue. I mean: Harry Potter. Always.

Posted by: Lieutenant Sadism Feb 28 2012, 04:29 PM

I don't like either of them, but Harry Potter is definitely the better choice.

Posted by: Dragonwish2 Mar 11 2012, 01:50 PM

I am all for Harry Potter. Twilight is annoying and extremely gross in comparison. There wasn't a devastating plot centered love triangle in Harry Potter! (Excluding Ron's fears and jealousy that Harry and Hermione might get together.) That, and Harry Potter has a greater balance of the external and internal conflicts, which I think Twilight lacks.

Posted by: Velocity Mar 26 2012, 02:04 AM

Harry Potter! for obvious reasons...

Posted by: Raienn Mar 26 2012, 10:30 PM

I'm a Harry Potter fan. I don't like what Bella stands for and I was never really into vampires anyhow (with a few exceptions). Potter has the adventure and coming-of-age story going on as well, which is always fun.

Posted by: Cresselia Mar 27 2012, 01:21 AM

Harry Potter. I hate movies AND books with romance and vampires sparkling fairies

Posted by: TheOceansGuardian Mar 27 2012, 10:57 PM

Why do people even ask questions like this? The obvious winner is Harry Potter. These questions are posed for the sole purpose of bashing Twilight and Meyers. Waste of time.

I credit both authors though for being so successful.

Posted by: Hexxy Apr 7 2012, 09:06 PM

Considering Twilight is written as a grown woman's sex fantasy and is influencing Mormonism in teens and that Harry Potter has an excellent plot and character development, the choice is obvious.
Harry Potter.

Posted by: Sleepy Dwarf Feb 18 2013, 08:05 PM

Harry Potter for sure.

Posted by: SilverPuppy9 Feb 22 2013, 12:50 PM

Why bother asking such a nonsensical question that has an immediate obvious answer to the majority of GTS?

As far as I am concerned, Harry Potter was a children's book about a boy in a world of magic and fantasy overcoming the evils presented to him while learning to become a man. Twilight was the perverted sexual fantasy between a teenage girl who had no emotional response to anything beyond depression and a vampire over one hundred years old who forced his Mormon beliefs onto said teenage girl in spite of the fact he could have ripped her to shreds in the first ten seconds of their meeting.

Twilight irked me so much. Harry Potter FTW.

Posted by: Zer0hundred Feb 24 2013, 04:22 PM

I have to say I like Harry Potter better.
TBH i havent read much of either, but i couldnt stand the 3 pages of twilight i read, so im going with Harry Potter definately.

Posted by: Kayrinda Feb 24 2013, 06:36 PM

Let me get one thing straight through:

I am a Finn.
From Finland.
North Europe.

So don't give me crap about: "You're from USA, so blah blah blah..."

Harry Potter is THE. BEST. PERIOD. NO. EXCEPTIONS. NONE.
I have read Twilight.
I know what I am talking about.

Personally, I would have not even read the whole thing if not for the vampires and WEREWOLVES!
Twilight is just about a teen girl with romance problems wrapped into horror and fantasy. Paranormal romance. YUCK!

Harry Potter: PURE AWESOMENESS
I can't do any right for the books if I try to explain how great the books are. I can't explain, because they are too awesome to be described.

If someone has a problem with this, go on.
But Harry Potter will FTW forever.

Posted by: Aura Dynasty Feb 24 2013, 06:41 PM

Anti-sparklepants voted HP!

Posted by: tessiursa Feb 24 2013, 07:34 PM

Harry Potter, without a doubt.

Posted by: StarNova Feb 24 2013, 07:37 PM

I don't like either, but I'd rather read HP than Twilight.

Harry Potter > Edward Cullen
Hermione Granger > Bella Swan
Ronald Weasley > Jacob Black

(I know it's dated 2009, but:) THIS. SO much THIS.
I read the first Twilight Book way back in the day and I thought it was really well-written. Of course, I was a 9th Grade, 14-year-old when I first read Twilight. However, I grew up with Harry Potter which was also pretty well-written (before the fifth book, IMO). Witches and wizards and secret portals and maps and Scabbers the rat is WAY more interesting to me than sparkly vampires and tree-climbing and baseball.

I haven't seen the last Harry Potter movie adaptation because the first part I saw was Harry, Hermione, and Ron walking for three and a half hours. Wow.
I haven't seen any of the Twilight movies, either, and if I do, all I'm going to do is add my personal commentary.

Posted by: Kontrazent Apr 7 2013, 07:26 PM

Potter....
it has a better lovestory as twilight
and there is no necrophelia, bestiality and pedophelia

Posted by: Elegant Elephant Apr 7 2013, 07:28 PM

Harry Potter, definitely...

Posted by: jellybean chi May 16 2013, 11:25 PM

i personally like the story of harry potter better. i've never read twilight so i don't know what the writing style is like, but i will say the first few harry potter books weren't written all that well, i don't think. but the story is definitely a bajillion times better. in my opinion.
...don't hate on other people's opinions though...

Posted by: Kaos May 19 2013, 12:50 AM

Wizards over sparkling vampires any day.

Posted by: sapphiress May 20 2013, 07:15 PM

I was so relieved when I saw the poll results. I'm even wearing a time-turner at the moment...

Posted by: neko android vampire demon Jun 24 2013, 03:27 PM

i personally do not prefer either but if i had to choose, my choice would be harry potter...

Posted by: Shizuka Jun 24 2013, 08:24 PM

Harry Potter.

Posted by: KatieS Jun 24 2013, 09:08 PM

Like both, but I prefer Twilight

Posted by: Felly Jun 29 2013, 02:32 PM

Harry Potter hands down. That was my childhood right there. ♥

Harry Potter for sure

Posted by: alex kun Jan 21 2014, 03:50 PM

HARRY POTTER, by far!, I mean...
Harry Potter series is a classic!
Sooo much better than Twilight! ♥

Posted by: Historia Reiss Feb 15 2014, 12:23 AM

Harry Potter. Obvs.

Posted by: King of the Eevees Mar 12 2014, 08:15 PM

Harry Potter. No questions asked.

Posted by: FantomDannie Mar 13 2014, 05:29 PM

Harry Potter is the best, no doubt.

Twilight ruined me.

Posted by: SolarMoon59 Mar 13 2014, 05:32 PM

I grew up with Harry Potter, so it's always been one of my favourite series ever!

Posted by: Pyon Jan 11 2015, 05:44 AM

I'm pretty sure this is a no brainer LOL HP for sure and forever.
But y'know everyone has their own tastes

I grew up reading and eagerly waiting for the next release of the HP book series so yeah

QUOTE(Tessax3 @ Aug 29 2009, 05:18 PM) *
OMG how can harry potter be beating twilight!?!

Twilight is amazing, the end. xD

...and if people actually bothered to read the books they wouldnt be voting harry potter. awesome.gif

Uhhmm I have.
And no, I don't hate Twilight. It's alright.
But Harry Potter is hands down better sorry.

Posted by: Tiggerific Feb 12 2016, 08:34 PM

Harry Potter. pfft No question. HUFFLEPUFFS!
I like Twilight but not enough.

Posted by: TTD Feb 14 2016, 12:43 PM

The obvious choice for me is Harry Potter. The subject matter appeals to me more, the literature, characters and lore are written in a way that I find superior to Twilight's rather slim offerings. I managed to form this opinion from reading only two of the Harry Potter books, Goblet of Fire and Order of the Phoenix.

Posted by: pokii1 Mar 11 2016, 07:19 PM

Harry Potter forever. I'm still obsessed with it and pokemon!

Posted by: DoktorPest Apr 22 2017, 07:27 PM

Harry Potter anytime. Still simply amazing to this day. I could never stand Twilight though.

Posted by: yellowsofa Aug 10 2017, 03:49 PM

Am I glad that people have got good taste. Harry Potter beats Twilight hands down. Or should I say Twiglit? Looks, feels, and tastes disgusting!

No, in all seriousness, J K knows her stuff. Her storytelling is concise, whereas it seems that Meyers hasn't got a clue. You can tell in their writing styles respectively.

And with Meyers, it seems to be all; Robert is hot! OMG Robert is so fit!
Come on seriously?? I could name plenty in HP who make Robert look like a turd...

In fairness though, I've got nothing against Meyer personally, and she is pretty in her own right, just her writing needs a bit of a work through.

magic.gif FTW
