For the past week or so, sometime before Affinities were released, I have been working on a new feature that Wymsy came up with: Trinkets.
Trinkets are user-designed items, which are a 32x32 pixel image with a title and description, that users can collect, trade, and gift. Trinkets will be able to be found around the site, but there is a limitation to this: your affinity affects which ones you can find. In order to obtain trinkets that can't be found by your affinity, you will have to trade with a user who already has one (by giving them one of your trinkets in exchange). However, there's also a limitation to trading: each trinket will have a rarity, between 1 and 10, and you can only trade trinkets with similar rarities. If the trinket you want has a rarity of 5, you will have to offer one of your trinkets with a rarity of 4, 5, or 6. Note that you will also be able to gift trinkets to your friends (users on your Pal Pad that also have you on their Pal Pad), but it will cost you a fee. There are several roles that trinkets can play on the site, such as new achievements based around them, Exploration tasks, and just something fun for you to collect on the side. It's another way for you to interact with other users. The system is still only half-complete, but we're announcing it now because we're opening submissions awhile. I hope to have the system complete by the end of the weekend, but there's a chance that won't happen. Either way, if you're feeling artsy, head on over to the Submission section and read over the details and rules very carefully before getting to work on your creation. Please note that as of now, only the Submissions section is open. You cannot find, collect, browse, trade, or gift Trinkets at all yet. This thread will be updated when more features are completed. We don't intend to stop accepting new submissions. The system is now live! All the tabs can now be accessed. On your Pokétch, you will find a new tab for Trinkets. This tab will merely provide you with links to the different sections of the Trinkets page. It will also contain Pokéchests (if you've found any). Pokéchests can be found randomly, similar to how Easter Eggs were found (by doing certain AJAX options, and not by reloading a page like item finding; though they won't pop up a box, just have something in the notification bar), or by accomplishing certain things. Such things include completing a shiny hunt, completing an exploration, or passing a certain amount of interactions for the day. There are several interaction goals to pass, ranging from low to high, and you can get multiple Pokéchests by passing each. This makes it easy to find Pokéchests by working or just hoping for luck. As I said, Pokéchests will appear on the new Trinkets tab. Clicking on them will give you either 2, 4, or 6 Trinkets. When you obtain Trinkets, they will appear under your Collection tab. From there, you can click an 'Options' link and choose whether you want to place that Trinket in the Market for trade (trading with someone is currently a 100-point fee) or gift it to someone (gifting with someone also has a point fee: 10 times the Trinket's rarity). If you have multiple of a Trinket, you can only have one of it in the Market at a time (though you can still place other ones in the Market). You can remove your Trinket from the Market, but this is a 10-point fee. On the Market tab, you can click the 'send offer' link which will then let you choose from Trinkets you have that have the required rarities. Once you send an offer to someone, they will be able to see it under their Offers tab. There, they can accept or deny. Whichever option is chosen, you will be notified of the response under your Offers tab. You will also be notified on your Collection tab if someone gifts you something. Clicking the 'X' to the left of these notifications will remove them, otherwise they stay there. Note that we've also made it possible to put things in the Market, or send offers, anonymously, for those who don't want to get bombarded with PMs if they put up something rare.
