It's December once more! Time for some events! Gosh, I feel like time moves so much more quickly when I'm responsible for creating this December thread every year. Didn't I just do this?!

I hope you all are having a wonderful holiday season and end of not only 2019, but of the 2010s decade! Wow. Be sure to take some time to reflect back on this decade as a whole: who you were, who you've become, and how you hope to improve in the coming decade.

Me? I had just left my teen years, ended the only life I ever knew in Pennsylvania and started a new life in Texas in a new relationship with Jen, and over the decade, I grew a lot as a person and started a new job that I love. I've now left my 20s and I am sure this upcoming decade has a lot in store. In fact, this coming February, Jen and I are finally getting married. Starting the decade off right!

Alright, here are the events!

The Hanukkah event

• Begins: Thursday, December 19th at 11:55pm EST (site reset), which is three nights before Hanukkah begins.
• Ends: Tuesday, December 31st at 11:55pm EST (site reset), which is one night after Hanukkah ends.

We're again bringing back our Hanukkah event. In the past we've given 1 Coin for every egg hatched that met that year's theme. Previous years have included: Fire-types (lighting of candles theme), Generation 1 Pokémon (a nostalgia theme), and Generation 3 Pokémon (Pokémon GO theme).

This year, the hot news is the release of Sword and Shield. However, with these games came the sad news that not every Pokémon from previous games would be available in the Galar region... So we'd like to honor some of the Pokémon that are not yet available in Galar. There are actually quite a lot, so I've limited it to only Common types:



You'll receive 1 coin for every Pokémon egg you hatch from the above list. If there are multiple forms, they're all included. You'll also earn 20 coins for completing a daily Scavenger Hunt task. These coins are completely separate from all other currencies on the site and are used to determine the prizes you win in the end (as well as for http://gpx.plus/dreidel).



Scavenger Hunt
This month's Scavenger Hunt has already begun and will run through the rest of the month, but you'll only earn 20 coins for completing a task once the Hanukkah event starts (see above start date and time).

Explorations
The two Christmas explorations, "The Twelve Days of Christmas" and "Secret of Christmas", have been activated and will run through the end of the month.

Secret Santa Exchange
Deposits will be open sometime on Sunday the 22nd and will last thru Wednesday the 25th, with the exchange itself happening after reset. I will post additional information around that time, but it'll work about the same as https://forums.gpx.plus/index.php?showtopic=74512.

New Year's Raffle
This will work the same as it did previous years: you'll have a day to be as active as possible, and for every 2020 points of Activity Score earned, you'll get one entry. We'll then distribute a certain number of vouchers for a new Pokémon, and you'll have a chance to get one based on the number of entries you earned. I'll post more information about this later, as always.

Those are some really cool looking site events! Looks like imma be on GPX a lot during the holiday period

As for reflection... there's not really much to reflect on I'd say.
I'm still the same old me, I'm still quirky, get excited over really small stuff.
There's still things I agree with, still things I disagree with

I just hope I can enjoy these current times for the rest of my life. The way things are now they're good.
I'm going places, made a couple new friends and I'm doing the things I've always wanted to do but never could before cause of ideas which were pushed onto me by relatives and old acquaintances.

I'm having a good time now and I'm grateful for that. and just because I'm not doing life by the books doesn't make it NG
This is the way I want to live my life. Fighting for what I think is good for me and reaching my own goals independently.

Hey!

I would advice against spinning the dreidel for profit as the expected value is 0.875, ie a loss. But if you don't care much about losing more than winning, then spin for fun!

It's not a 25% chance for each of the sides. I've actually weighted them.

I sent all the odds of each spin to Raven and we crunched the numbers and it's more like an expected value of 1.20


@Manchee -- one of the prizes for Coins is always a handful of Scratch Cards, and you can get a Dreidel from that. I'll see if we want to put it in the shop at all too though.

It doesn't seem like Alolan forms of the Pokemon are included. I've hatched Alolan Geodude and Alolan Grimer, but haven't gotten coins from them. Was that intentional to exclude them?

I find my luck generally sucks with luck-based games, so I'll probably just stick with hatching eggs for coins seeing as I have vacation time and all; still glad this was brought back though, I'm going to see if I can get myself up into one of the good tiers like I did last time~

Welp, after spending a couple minutes waffling on whether I wanted to take up an egg space submitting my entry now or wait until tomorrow and risk forgetting to put something in, I have submitted a shiny legendary into the exchange and bookmarked the page so I can see who gets it.

I'm excited to see what come out on my end once the exchange happens~

There's not really a specific page for the exchange, you just have to bookmark the Pokemon's profile page (where you interact/give it a berry) so you can see who gets it after the exchange happens. As for thanking your gifter, you can look on the egg's profile page in the right column's timeline to see who put it into the exchange (it'll say Exchange by 'username').

I've decided that I'll be submitting a shiny legendary as well, just trying to decide which one at this point - as I remember, they're broken up between whether they are summonable or not, so now it's just a matter of which side to choose.

You know, the thought of bookmarking the page never occurred to me. I just had my exchange mon battle once in the Vs Seeker so I can keep track of it by viewing my past battles.

If the Pokémon you're sending is a shiny you shiny-hunted for, you will always be able to finding it linked in your list of previous ended shiny hunts, by clicking the breed name of that specific hunt. For now, that I've already submitted a 'mon but it hasn't been asigned to anybody, the link tells me 'this Pokémon doesn't have an owner currently', but it will work normally when it reaches its new home! (=´∀｀)

I won't question how a Mimikyu got a Stakataka (though I understandably have a LOT of questions), but thank you for mine, Mimikyu! Now I have both my favorite Ultra Beasts (the other being Guzzlord)! I hope someone enjoys my Latias; I've had her forever and was hoping to one day give her a better home than my box. ;~;

Now to impatiently stare at them until they hatch!

Good morning and welcome to the Day After.

I just checked in this morning and am quite surprised and happy with my shiny secret exchange. I had really hoped to end my shiny spike-eared Pichu hunt, but I only had two shiny novelties and the one I considered parting with I didn't know if it would count as it was the shiny Chocolate Miltank. I was afraid to submit that and have it revert to a normal Miltank so I didn't want to submit that one. My only other novelty is the newer one, the Noothoot. He's too new and I just couldn't release him yet.

So I let loose my shiny Heatran which was my one (and only) shiny legendary. I am sorry, Crysta Blade that I didn't have a more active legendary that shone. I just don't have the shine luck as evidence by being a member for so long and only having had that single shiny legendary.

In exchange, my Secret Santa, Yamper donated their Cresselia. I look forward to seeing its beauty once hatched.

Thank you, Yamper. It will, once again, be my only shiny legendary on hand and I will appreciate it greatly.

Shouldn't meltan be considered a summonable legendary? Wouldn't it be in a different category from exploration legendary? And if not, why?

So I've been playing as hard as I possibly can, and keeping an eye on the coins - and I just do NOT know how some of the users are getting so far ahead. I know they're playing the driedel like crazy because their eggs hatched don't equal their coin gains, but I'm not quite sure how. I've been trying to as well - and have spent more in loss than gains... so I'm not sure what the trick is here.

I'm in 6th so far (I did, briefly, get to be in first on like Sunday. that was cool xD). Still playing as much as I can, but between work and the holidays I can only do the best I can.

Ha this confused me more than it should have. I thought you deposited a Mimikyu and got a Stakataka and were confused how it happened. I too was confused and started to dig before realizing what you actually meant... thanks to the timeline on the egg you received showing that the donator's name was Mimikyu.


Good question... as far as I can tell though, no one submitted/received Meltan, so that's not something I need to worry about until next Christmas!

edit: oh, ignore that last note. Apparently I'm looking at the output log of an old exchange. I'll think on Meltan. Sorry, also didn't realize you got one, lol

Six people, including you, got a Meltan... I am curious what you all would consider fair compensation to even this out. I do agree Meltan should have been in the summonable pool, if not a completely new pool with the Ultra Beasts. I remembered to put all the newer UBs in to the summonable pool, but I completely forgot about Meltan, so this is my fault and I'm willing to do something to make it up to you 6.

To everyone discussing ways to track their trade, you realize each pokemon has a 5-letter URL that never changes and just type it in the address bar? And if you sent it already without looking, most likely your browser history will remember it within a reasonable time frame. I just find that to be less complicated than the other ways being shared.

I usually have a spare shiny set aside in preparation for the exchange, but this year I fell short, and ended up parting with my shiny Mega Gyarados (his shiny sprite always reminds me of a lobster and I just don't care for it). I hope Summer Rose is happy with receiving it.

In return, I received a shiny Teddiursa from ooHex. Thank you!

I wasn't one of the people who got one but I was just thinking that a voucher for a 'mon they could have possibly received would make sense. Would be something of the same rarity and they'd get to choose which one they want as a compensation.

You were the only one to deposit/receive a shiny, so. :P

I'll think about it. I think just giving normal vouchers that let you choose anything you want is a bit much considering no one else got to choose, but perhaps I can give a voucher that randomly gives you one of the other deposited legendary Pokémon that you could have gotten instead.

Don't feel too bad; I had to explain it about four times to my other half before he simply blurted out "How the hell does a Mimikyu catch a Stakataka???!" and I just kinda did the awoken eyes and figured I'd work it into my thanks post somehow. xD

As for the Meltan predicament, I wasn't aware that Ultra Beasts were in a separate category from summonable Legendaries (what with being gone for almost a decade), but what would that mean for those of us who put in summonables and got Ultra Beasts? Why exactly would Meltan be in said separated category? Forgive me; I'm just honestly a little lost. I'm sure an explanation of the categories might help a lot...

I'm not sure if I should suggest something, as I wasn't among those affected by this situation, but I am a little worried since I did submit what was a summonable Legendary (to my previous knowledge; I'm pretty sure I summoned my Latias...).

Sorry for the delay in news again. The New Year's Raffle will use your activity score from Tuesday, December 31st, as that is New Year's Eve. Sadly that falls on a Tuesday.

You will receive one entry in to the raffle for every 2020 points of activity (look at your Activity Score stat), however large amounts of entries will not guarantee a prize. As with any raffle, you could win with just one entry.

Last year, there were 633 users with at least 1 entry and we sent out 336 prizes, including a top prize of Sh. Legend Voucher Plus. Again, having the most amount of entries will not guarantee you a prize, let alone the top prize, but it does give you a chance.

The raffle itself, with prize distribution, will happen at some point on January 1st, most likely the afternoon or evening.

Hello and Happy New Year's, everybody!

I'm taking a very laid back approach while I work from home today and have been vying for more coins since the dreidel likes to steal what I have had on hand. I've definitely learned my lesson though and am staying away from that bad, bad game. *smirk*

I'm also clicking like crazy and trying to hope for the best for the raffle tomorrow. I have a few entries for sure, but raffles, like the dreidel, aren't really my thing. I suppose all I can do is hope for the best along with the rest of you. So here are my new year's wishes for good luck during the raffle.

That not withstanding - hopefully many of us will hatch a shiny before the game ends and time literally runs out. So far I'm 0 for .... I don't even know how many eggs I've hatched during the game. But here's hoping something sparkly-shiny will come our way to make us smile.

Be safe out there later tonight and, if you have pets, remember to reassure them once the fireworks begin tonight.

Yeah, I've never had good luck with the dreidel game either, so I'm glad we're able to hatch eggs as an alternate means of getting coins. Hopefully, I'm in a good spot to get something shiny this year since I just barely missed the cutoff for the shiny novelty voucher last year and I regretted not putting in a little more effort.

I'm actually kind of surprised I'm still awake considering I've been up since 9am yesterday and passed the point of sleepy back around to alert around 8am this morning and have been holding steady since then... this can only end well

Shinies have actually been really crazy today, the electric squirrels are stalking me

I highly doubt I'm going to do as well as I managed for the raffle last year, but I can hope for something shiny since that's really the only stuff I still need unless there's a new Pokemon Voucher like the ultra beast voucher goven out last year (can't remember if it was Nihelego or Poipole).

Was trying to hit 1,000 coins but had to work last night and then my car broke down after so by the time I got home it was 3am and then I slept for most of the day. Currently at 737 coins so won't complain.

Happy New Year, everyone! I hope 2020 treats us all kindly! May all your shinies hatch within... um... 100 eggs? 50 even! ...that might be a stretch but I hope my sentiment comes across.

I really can't wait to see what the Dreidel prizes are; I wound up giving up on it after hatching my Shiny Sewaddle (I have bad RNG for dice roller-type games, lol), but I hope you guys were able to grab enough of my leafbug eggs; my Levanny has been quite busy this holiday season. c;


I'm also... ironically excited about the raffle if only to see the prizes there, too. I just like seeing people get excited over stuff, I guess! Probably because I'm old. xD

Happy New Year everyone, let’s hope 2020 is a better year than 2019 was. I didn’t get very many coins this year, mainly due to work being an absolute madhouse, plus I had a really nasty stomach bug most of Christmas. I’m happy with the coin count I got, and I’m not overly worried about what prize I’ll get because I never get shiny vouchers anyways .

I got 14 entries for the New Years raffle, I didn’t have much time yesterday to increase my activity score. I had to work yesterday and I had a lot of errands to do before the stores closed. I’m happy with my entries, you never know, I might win a very amazing prize .

I got 19 shinies in all during the course of the event, and abandoned three of them as they ended up being duplicates. I hope the people who got them enjoy them! (Ironically I also saw a shiny Glameow while checking out the shelter a few days ago xD)

I'm not entirely sure what the trick is for the Dreidel, but there is one. I definitely would bet low and only increase if I lost, but sometimes I'd be spending hours just trying to gain back on my losses, rather than get ahead (like yesterday, I spent most of it in the hole between 70-90 coins lost and gained it back by the end of the day).

Whatever Enji was doing was the right way to do it, xD They soared to the lead after day 3.

This was fun though. The Hannakuh event is always my favorite time of the year!

I had a lot of fun though I could REALLY use more PC boxes. I hatched so many Pokemon yesterday that I had to decimate my living lv 100 dex to make room for them all. I hope more PC boxes (and backgrounds to go with them) are in the plans for 2020. Please? I also have no idea how the top several people got the dreidel to work for them. I'm proud I was able to hold #6--I hope it's enough for the top prize. Congratulations to everyone, and thank you everyone for all the interactions and warming my eggs! Happy 2020 everyone!

Same; I had to clear out my lab dex boxes to be able to keep up with everything I was hatching, so here's to hoping more box space is in store for the future~

I'm really curious how people managed to get the dreidel's rng to cooperate; more often than not, I would roll redo or loss multiple times in a row throughout the day and I would have to spend the day recouping my losses. In the end, felt was more lucrative (and less frustrating) to hatch for the coins.

I believe based on a previous zerxer comment that the probabilities were set to give the user a slight edge on coins expectancy. Which means the only way to maximize your coins using the dreidel is to spin as often as you can and wager the maximum every time. Obviously easier said than done and statistical noise means that absent a lot of spins some will end up in the red. I myself feel I broke about even, I had one day where I probably cost myself a 70ish coin day but another day where I went on a big hot streak and definitely tripled my coin day vs not spinning. Nowhere near the top since I logged on in the middle of the event and I'm not in the top tier volume wise on my day anyway

Box space is an interesting conundrum. I've no idea the specifics but I'm sure the limits are server related. With less active users it may be safe to offer a few more boxes now without affecting site performance, but it's a balancing act for sure. You don't want to make navigating the PC and navigating the site in general impossible on account of giving everyone too much space.

Thank you to Zerxer for giving us this wonderful event! It's always a blast to get some random shinies and it also gives me motivation to do something on the site.

I know, right? Shiny Novelty Voucher's awesome, especially since I just barely missed that threshold last year and was kicking myself for it.

Thank you for my Shiny Novelty Voucher, now I just need to figure out what I'm going to redeem with my voucher; I'm thinking one of the novelties you can't breed for like Chocolate Miltank or Pinkan Ryhorn, or maybe Heart Eevee since its egg looks the same as the regular and would be hard to pick out normally. Ahhh, choices~

I managed to beat my record last year, making 957,456 to take 2nd place in the activity score like I did last year... so that give me roughly 473-ish entries (depending on if the system rounds up or not). Good luck everyone~

I'd personally use it on a corruptible - though iirc, Chocolate Miltank can breed more of itself, so not that one. If I had one, I'd use it on a Zergoose I could corrupt into feral form. That's always been one of my dream shinies.

But more important than rarity, it should be a shiny you like!

New Year's Raffle:

As originally mentioned, for every 2020 activity score you had yesterday, you earned 1 entry into the raffle. There were 688 eligible users, and 336 prizes went out. Given that it's a raffle, a prize is not guaranteed (nor is the rarity of the prize), you simply increase your chances by having more entries.

Here's the list of prizes that went out:

• 1 - Sh. Legend Voucher Plus
• 10 - Sh. Voucher (this is specifically for a Sh. Duraludon)
• 25 - Sh. Novelty Voucher
• 50 - Sh. Voucher Plus (for all non-Legendary, non-Galarian, Canon Pokémon)
• 250 - Duraludon Voucher

The first number is how many of that prize were distributed, and nothing to do with your number of entries. Someone with just 1 entry, and someone with 250 entries, were both eligible for all of the prizes.

As you can see, Duraludon is now available! Thanks to our newest contributor, LightKunai, for spriting it.

Had a great time as usual, and got some new records for myself.

I was so nervous that prize break for coins would be 3k, since I was like 20 coins away from it.
Shiny Novelty Voucher will probably now stay in my Inventory for some time, since I do not know what to get, but I'm very happy about it.

Also, 4k+ coins. Last time, it wasn't even 2k. So... next time we have to reach for 8k+ it seems

Officially now... Happy New Year's, Everybody!

It was funny. As I was logging into my account this afternoon I saw that I still had my last 6 eggs from yesterday. So I said to myself: well, if I don't get the new Pokemon... maybe... [and my eyes honed in on the Shinx egg]... maybe my Shinx will be shiny. And then... the eggs hatched. And... shiny Shinx!! *jaw drops*

As it turns out I didn't get the new Pokemon... and I missed ending my Spike Eared Pichu hunt by "this much". But I didn't walk away empty handed. I have a shiny voucher plus - thank you, GPX! I have a few ideas on what to use it on (a small list of five) but I want to give it some thought first.

As for the coins... I believe I might have gotten another legendary voucher plus. I already had some of those stored up so I didn't really notice but that's OK. The Driedel is not my friend and I'd love to set a burning match to its wooden spindle. Other than that - we're good.

As for all else... welcome to 2020! May this be the year you conclude the longest shiny hunt in your records or the one that frustrates you the most. I think we all know what my crux is and yes. I am hoping to find that shiny spike eared mouse before the calendar brings us back to New Year's Eve.

I just checked my PC and did a search. Sweet! I now have a male and female shiny Shinx. *happy dances* No, it does not take a lot to make me Pokemon happy. LOL

Duraludon's a regular pokemon, as in not a novelty/summonable/legendary, right? So by that logic, it should be breedable, so there's still a good chance to get a shiny before Gigantamax becomes a thing if it can breed.

Maybe the PC could be paginated so it would take less space loading? I'm sure that would require new coding, and some different method of organization. But if it drains the servers less, it would be worth it. With Galar getting added in now, as well as more novelties, and people being around longer and having more shinies...I really, really hope we can get more space soon. I don't think I could participate in the dreidel event at the end of this year as well as I did in 2019 if I have to clear out more Pokemon. (Or maybe if that's not possible, reduce the time we have to hold on to Pokemon after we adopt them? From like 12 hours to 8? I don't know. I'm just spit-balling here.)

No Shiny Vouchers for me this time around (I forgot whether I've actually won one from one of these year-end events). But I got a Duraludon Voucher and a Legend Voucher Plus, so I can fill some more gaps in my dex, thankfully.

I almost always bet conservatively on the Dreidel (usually 4-12, and rarely above 20). Perhaps I should've been less reluctant to take risks, especially with the way it was weighted. Heh.

I also managed to sang the new Pokemon egg from the Shelter and owe a debt of thanks to the breeders out there. I really appreciate the egg releases.

I think that I, too, will go with the shiny Ditto. It made sense when realization hit that we can't breed Ditto but we can breed Gulpin and the other 3 choices I was thinking about. Heaven's know that the non-breeder shinies are much harder to stumble upon.

As it turns out, I already had shinies for 2 of the 5 I was considering anyway. LOL
