And a Golurk

Discussion thread

The southern side of Mt. Carello was perhaps the most traveled area of the mountain. Trails led up the mountain for eager trainers to congregate in the gym town of Arasam. A highway was also built to get supplies to and from the mountain city. All the while, the snowy cap of the mountain could be seen from even the bottom of the mountain. Truly, this place kept its pristine nature in the modern age.

It is at the bottom of the mountain where we find Darius Dovakin, fresh off from his escapades at Loch Ranch. He traveled below the timberline, where the forest still ran strong. His destination was eastward: his kinsmen were gathering to celebrate the life of the great dragon grandmaster Lord Beed. Unfortunately, the dragon trainer was also traveling without a compass, leading him wildly off course. On top of that, his scabbard was empty. Even without a blade at his side, Darius was not deterred. As long as he had his trusty charmeleon and his less than trustworthy arbok, the dragon trainer would push on.

But first, a night’s rest. The sun was heading into the west. Darius had found a nice clearing to set up camp. He summoned his charmeleon to begin work.

“Bindy, gather up some firewood. Tonight, we sleep in Nature’s bosom! ”

With a family, like a business, it is important to be able to work in order to sustain growth. Gigarte and Arasam have enjoyed a close relationship following the Petropolian Transgression, and the Himan family, like many Gigartian agriculturalists, have utilized this relationship as a source of business opportunities. For the last several years, Amelia had been relegated the primary duty to transport, deliver, and sell goods in Gigartian markets, as well as ever increasingly distant locations. However, It had been quite a while since Amelia had gone on any major business trips due to a minor ankle injury to which she hoped to recover completely from. But now she was fully recovered, and her duties to her family business had to be fulfilled.

Arasam; the grand city of the mountain. Though she had been there several times, it always impressed her seeing the mighty town carved out of rock and stone. Only by seeing the city for the first time did she truly understand the scale and beauty of the sketch of the proposed "Great Gate of Arasam" that was located in the Gigarte Art Museum. It was a shame that it was never actually built, but Amelia understood why they didn't; it would have been expensive and even a monument like that wouldn't persuade too many tourists to make the wicked hike up Mt. Carello. Amelia enjoyed the trip though, being a stark contrast to the overcrowded farmhouse. Plus, having Flying Pokemon certainly helped make the trek easier.

As she had discovered during a recent Pokeringer match with her friends, Austin, her Pidgeotto, could now carry Amelia short distances at fairly low altitudes, even though this was a bit awkward and tired him out fairly quickly. However, he could carry a good deal of cargo, making Amelia's job much easier. This allowed Amelia's party to travel much more quickly and to take more difficult shortcuts off the main road. Instead of taking the main route and going through rival farms like those at Baccate and Loch Ranch, Amelia would be able to take a more direct route to the southeastern base of the mountain, and cutting westward through the forest and some of the lower trails until reaching the main highway, which she would then take up to the city.

It was in the forest near the base of the pristine mountain that Amelia decided to set up for the night, seeing the golden sun shining off of the south-facing surfaces of the snow-peaked mountain. Austin and Hope, Amelia's Vespiquen, would enjoy the forest much more than some of the more barren spots of the mountain. Amelia had brought her camping supplies, and sought out an ideal location to hang her hammock tent, and where she could set up camp without harming the precious mountain biome.

Amelia suddenly perceived the distinct scent of a fire. It seemed unlikely that there would be a forest fire here. Perhaps there were other campers in the vicinity. It might be nice to have a little company for the evening, and it would certainly be much more environmentally friendly if we shared a campsite.

Following the trail and the increasing smell of the fire, Amelia quickly found herself coming up to a clearing marked as a campsite where the silhouette of a man with funny, abstract hair and a Pokemon Amelia recognized as a Charmeleon could be made out against the glow of the sunset. That Charmeleon's tail must be what I smelled before. Amelia approached the pair but upon getting close enough to recognize the man as the wierdo sword guy who had been "helping" the day of her ankle injury, she lost ended up tripping in the moment of recognition and landing flat on her face at the feet of her acquaintance.

As Darius pointed into the woods, he heard a loud *PLOMP* that caused him to look down. Lo and behold! It was a familiar face! Darius howled in laughter at Amelia's less than graceful entrance.

"Hail, Amelia of Plant Town!" Darius greeted with much enthusiasm. "I take it the ankle is much better now."

Testing his assumption, Darius grabbed Amelia's arms (just below the shoulders) and propped her up on her feet. Bindy was looking happy despite the ferocious scowl typical of charmeleon, looking up at her as if Amelia was going to sprout delicious pancakes fresh from her home.

"You must have traveled far, or we're a lot closer to Plant Town than I thought."

Amelia suddenly found herself being lifted off the ground by her much larger acquaintance. Now there was no chance of having a peaceful night with normal hikers. Amelia sighed as she felt her cheeks rush with blood. What were the chances she would run into the same wierdo in the middle of the wilderness? It was partially his fault that she was injured in the first place. Though she was fully recovered, and didn't really experience any pain from the injury itself, she was still significantly weaker than she was before the incident, and her legs were worn-out from the long journey, not mention she had just landed pretty hard on the ground. But she couldn't let Spiky-hair know that, or he might try to take it as an opportunity to try to act hyper valiantly or something.

"Hello, SpikDarius. Long time no see. I don't know where you think you are, but I would have you know that I am heading towards Arasam on business. I wasn't taking the main road, because us Gigartians, thats what we are actually called you know, prefer to take to the skies rather than be bound to the earth. It isn't really that surprising I guess, considering that was part of the focus of the first city. Anyways, it is still quite a lengthy journe.y"

Amelia looked over and noticed that Spiky-hair's Charmeleon seemed to be rather eager to meet her, well actually, it seemed to look like it wanted her to feed it. She would have to make sure she was the one to set up the Ursula bag, to ensure that no one tried to eat her produce before she could deliver it to the city.

"I take it you haven't eaten yet; why don't we set up camp together for the night so we can share resources?"

"Deal!" Darius exclaimed. "Bindy, back to firewood duty. We got company tonight!"

The charmeleon ran around the campground in glee as she gathered up whatever dead sticks she could find. Meanwhile, Darius was searching his pockets for those aforementioned resources.

"I think I still have some on me," Darius said as he pulled a satchel from behind his armor. "Ah! You're in for a treat, Amelia! I managed to acquire this Blackthorn delicacy while at that Grand Invitational a while back. Behold, Blackthorn Salted Tauros Jerky!"

The dragon trainer pulled out a brown cube of dried meat to show Amelia. He was rather proud of his offering.

"I bet Gigante wouldn't even let this stuff down their giant elevator! Since we're far from their oppressive meat laws, you're in for a treat tonight! Maybe with a little water, I can soften it up a bit. This will go great with some eggs if there are any around. But no need to wait for any of that! Here, have some!"

Darius immediately held out a dried meat cube to Amelia, eager to share his bounty with others.

Spiky-hair loudly ordered Bindy into a flurry of firewood gathering. At least it knows not to collect green or living wood. Meanwhile Spiky-hair himself instantly started ravaging his pockets for something. He seemed rather distracted at the moment, so Amelia decided it would be a good time to unload her pack and find a tree for her canopy tent. Amelia scanned the camp ground for two very vibrant trees at the correct distance apart for her tent, and she spotted two matching that description at the far side of the ground.

However, before she could make her way over to her future sleeping space, spiky-hair apparently found whatever he was searching for in his cheesy umpire suit and thrust some smelly abstract art piece about the cruelty of industrial waste plants into her face. Except, apparently it wasn't actually a smelly abstract art piece about the cruelty of industrial waste plants, but something that was supposed to be eaten. Amelia's stomach churned with displeasure just looking at the chunk of flesh. Gross.

"Its Gigarte not Gigante, and I am not sure what or where this great invitational thing was, but I am sure that.... I am not hungry now?"

Amelia was starting to get a familiar dizzy feeling, but she stepped away trying to avoid the morbid carcass thrust into her face....

As Amelia avoided the jerky like the plague, Darius simply shrugged it off.

"Oh well, more for me," he replied as he popped the morsel of meat into his mouth. Chewing like a miltank with cud, he watched as his charmeleon was building a small house with the firewood she had gathered. The miniature had the standard four walls and roof of dried grass. Bindy stood over her creation, proud of her artwork. Darius looked expectantly at the little wood house, waiting for it to burst in flames. How could Bindy resist that wild look in his eye? The charmeleon obliged, sending a stream of embers at the tiny cabin. The little house on the campsite quickly became a burning pyre.

"WOOOOOO!" Darius bellowed at the small scale mass destruction wrought by his pokemon. His charmeleon couldn't help but smile at her master's enjoyment.
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Meanwhile...

"I hear...people?"

It had been weeks since Dr. Wayne Webb had last made human contact. He had been wandering the woods for hours in search of help. His appearance certainly showed his desperate need for assistance: his once pristine white lab coat was painted with dirt and frayed at the edges. His once perfectly parted hair was sticking out in all directions, as if he had been electrocuted. His entire appearance screamed desperation, with the exception of the hopeful look on his face.

He needed a lot of help.

Apparently, Darius had similar manners to the Miltank back at the Farm. Chewin' that meat worse than the little boys around the family facility. No wonder he got along so well with her family! Amelia distanced herself from the slobber coming from Darius, trying to feign off the familiar feeling of nausea. She went and sat down near where she had anticipated on setting up for the night and took a quick breather.

As Amelia rested, remembering now that she had just fallen on her face minutes before, and slowly started setting up her super sleeping space, she also saw the supreme structure that Spiky's Charmeleon was constructing under Spiky's own supervision. Amelia was quite astonished that a person like that could have trained their Pokemon to accomplish such awesome achievements so artfully. Amelia had just finished hanging up the last tarp over her hanging tree tent when the Charmeleon had completed Spiky-hair's structure. Amelia was quite impressed at how little material was used to build such a magnificent structure. Perhaps she had misjudged this guy after all...

But then Spiky-hair gave his Pokemon an expectant look, and suddenly the entire structure went up in flames.

Amelia felt furious! What a waste of time and natural resources, it wasn't even in the fire pit and it was likely to spread to the rest of the forest! What an inconsiderate brat! Amelia felt the dizziness resurge and she seemed to black out for a moment.
--------
Austin had stayed back and prepared his own campsite along with some more important of the goods master
Amelia had brought with them on their trip to Arasam. He had prepared a nice place for himself in a tallish tree a little ways from where Master Amelia and the male Homosapien with strangely spiky hair and Bindy. They were still in listening difference just in case Master Amelia needed help, and Hope had made herself at home not too far away either.

At some point, Austin also became aware of another person on the trail, someone who seemed to be going at a rather slow tempo. Austin decided to go investigate and found a sad looking male Homosapien rather poorly dressed, and poorly groomed. Austin silently swooped down onto a tree nearby and waited for him to approach; sometimes poorly groomed Homosapiens could be dangerous. As he approached, a loud cry from Master Amelia went throughout the woods, "HOMOSAPIEN! HOMOSAPIEN! HOMOSAPIEN!" Not only did Austin hear that, but so did the sad Homosapien, and he saw that Austin had responded to the noise. They made awkward eye contact, before Austin flew off to Master Amelia's call.

Jumping up into the air, Austin immediately saw smoke and the glow of flames. Austin rushed over to the clearing. Circling over the clearing, Master Amelia seemed to be doing some sort of strange dance with the Spiky haired Homosapien that involved using her limbs in violent manner. That was not unusual, she seemed to do that fairly regularly, she would go back to normal in a few minutes and act like she had never even done her strange violent ritual. However, this fire seemed to be quite concerning as it did not seemed to be properly constrained within the fire pit, and was in danger of setting the forest on fire.

Austin saw that there was a bit of sand and dirt clearly visible from above that could be used to help put out the fire. He began using the updraft from the fire to gain altitude quickly before quickly descending into the sand with enough force that the sand went flying into the fire. This "sand-attack" seemed to do pretty well and containing the flames at the very least, and immediately used the updraft again to repeat the process...
