Which of the main and supporting rivals do you either personally like the best, or objectively see as the best, for Ash, May, and Dawn? This is pretty straightforward, but to help you out, I'll give you a brief summary of each rival and who they are.

Gary - Ash's original childhood rival, later turned best friend and researcher.
Ritchie - A trainer Ash befriended during the Indigo League, notable for being very similar to him in both appearance and in the Pokémon he owns.
Harrison - A trainer Ash befriended during the Silver Conference, notable for winning over him in the quarterfinals. He later lost the tournament to Jon Dickson.
Morrison - A trainer Ash met and later befriended during the Ever Grande Conference, notable for his and Ash's tendency to compete over everything possible.
Tyson - A trainer Ash befriended during the Ever Grande Conference, notable for winning over him in the quarterfinals, as well as his unique Meowth in boots. He later won the tournament.
Paul - A trainer Ash met in Sinnoh, notable for his harsh methods of training Pokémon and his insulting remarks during their encounters. They can very easily anger each other and get into heated arguments.
Barry - A trainer Ash met in Sinnoh, notable for his hasty, hyperactive personality and his admiration of Paul. He also grew up in the same town as Dawn (though he doesn't remember her) and is best friends with her rival, Kenny.

Drew - A coordinator May met in Hoenn and her main rival. Later, he won against her in the Hoenn Grand Festival, but lost against her in the Kanto Grand Festival. His signature Pokémon is his Roselia, later Roserade.
Harley - A coordinator May met in Hoenn, notable for his numerous attempts to humiliate and demean her. His signature Pokémon is his Cacturne.
Solidad - A coordinator May met and lost against in the Kanto Grand Festival.

Nando - A trainer and coordinator Dawn met in Sinnoh, notable for his love of music and his golden harp.
Zoey - A coordinator Dawn befriended in Sinnoh and her main rival, notable for being very opinionated and carrying a tomboyish demeanour.
Kenny - A coordinator Dawn has known and been rivals with since childhood, notable for appearing to have a crush on her, as well as being Barry's best friend.

Rivals have always played major, important roles in the series, so I think this could call for some thoughtful and interesting discussion. All thoughts would be appreciated!

Zoey, Drew... and Gary... plus Paul and Barry. They're the best ones... probably because of their expanded background story... we don't get to know Drew much other than his original hometown, I guess...

But Zoey's the best (and because I'm biased). I think the writers and animators are like giving her too much background story... like what happened in Snowpoint and her cute little nickname Nozotchi... ;x

For Ash, I choose Barry, Paul, and Gary.
Gary is obvious, even at first he's annoying, but my opinion changes after Sinnoh region.
Paul... I don't know why though.
And Barry, honestly I just like Pearl XD. And he's funny, in a sort of way.
Ritchie isn't so bad, but I prefer those three more.

For May, Drew.
They're good couple :P. Harley just go with Jessie (hides).

And lastly for Dawn, Zoey.
I just don't like Nando, and I choose Zoey over Kenny.

I chose the rivals Paul, Barry, and Ritchie for Ash because:

Paul: He's probably the most interesting rival in the entire anime, I haven't seen anyone quite like him in 12 seasons of Pokemon.

Barry: I love him because he always interrupts Team Rocket's stupid motto that nobody wants to hear and I love it when he uses the phrase "I'm fining you for ___________ !"

Ritchie: He's obviously evenly matched with Ash and if they were to battle then I'm sure it would be an awesome one.

I chose the rival Solidad for May because: I liked her personality and her pokemon, in my opinion, are like the physical embodiments of beauty.

I chose the rival Zoey for Dawn because: I liked her personality as well and I love how she doesn't rush through things. Shes wise enough to know that people need breaks and they can't just go and win every contest in a row. Plus she doesn't act emo when she loses a contest.

I chose Gary because, well, he was the first. and I love his cocky attitude. And his hair...ohhh Gary's hair...

Paul, because he has the manliest voice in the animu.

I voted for Gary, because he was the very first rival Ash had. He also has very good pokemon, and has that 'rival' attitude towards Ash, too.

I voted for Drew because he has nice pokemon, and has a nice contest style and strategy for contest battles.

I don't have any idea about the Sinnoh region, so I just randomly voted for Zoey. >>;
