Well which is better?

Posted by: Protoman Jul 14 2009, 09:23 PM

Water. Cause Water can use Ice Attacks.

Posted by: DarkLord Guy Jul 14 2009, 09:46 PM

When you think about it...

Ice type pokemon trump Dragons, which some believe to be the most powerful, Flying Grass and ground. However iirc all dragon types learn a fire move ,bar Hidden Power, meaning if they are speedy enough they can get rid of the ice types. Flying types are used rarely in competitive play making this not much of an advantage, Grass is taken out by fire and other moves which are far more common than the 12 attacking Ice moves(Fire has 16). Ground is whipped by water aswell, so this is a toss-up.
Ice moves include Haze and Mist which get rid of stat changes and prevent them.
Ice types get the Hail weather effect, which damages foes for 1/16 of hp, it also gives Blizzard 100% Accuracy, since Blizzard is a ice type it gets STAB aswell.

Water types Trump Fire Rock and Ground. Fire types are somewhat common, so this is a plus. Rock types have plenty of weaknesses so this isn't really a huge thing. Ground types again are hit by both equally.
Water moves include Aqua ring which cancels out weather effects like leftovers does, and withdraw which boosts Def one stage.
Water types get the Rain Dance weather effect, while this doesn't damage opponents it boosts water moves by 50% add that to STAB and you are in business. It makes Thunder 100% accurate but its a electric move which means no STAB for water. It also doubles speed for Swift Swimmers heals HP for Rain Dish and Dry skin pokemon, and Cure Status for Hydration ability users.

There is far more Water types than Ice types.
Water types also get 1/2 damage resistance when hit by a Ice move.

For me when you look at types it would be water. Besides I can't resist a smexy Gyarados cat.gif

Well I have a Dewgong with Waterfall. And a Arcticuno with Surf

Posted by: Borealis Jul 18 2009, 12:27 PM

Water types are great in general. Just get octillery to use flamethrower on all those ice types grin.gif

Posted by: IceBlaziken Jul 21 2009, 09:56 AM

i thnk that are both of them are good

Posted by: Icethornstar Jul 29 2009, 11:16 PM

I think that there both good for movesets, but i personally prefer ice because i have a crazy and random obsession happy.gif They both do look good too!

Posted by: lu1z Aug 1 2009, 04:51 PM

in my opinion i dont like either one of those types

you just need an electric pokemon with fighting attacks to beat the two types
and my fav type is fire so water is like the opposite

Posted by: RyanRetarded Aug 25 2009, 08:36 PM

i'd say ice. theres LOADS of water type pokemon in the dex, but not alot of ice types. and if you think about it, ice types can freeze water types >=)

Posted by: Allen Timblin Aug 26 2009, 02:35 AM

water types are better for various reasons...
the frist gen. didn't have any ice types ( besides the lend. bird articuno.....which is my favorite lend. out of all of them ) ( first gen. was the best! )
water types are ice types aswell ( for they can learn ice moves )

thank you for youe time......please Pm me if you would like to adverse on this topic.

Thank you all.

Water Types are obviously better since they all can use at least one ice attack. Not only that I love empoleon.

Posted by: Pimpburger Sep 1 2009, 09:21 AM

Ice is better. Ice can be froslass, so no fighting weakness, and while I use my quag more than my froslass, if quag was just water, I wouldn't use it as much.

Posted by: Hawkstar Sep 1 2009, 09:00 PM

I'm partial to the Water Pokemon - go piplup! - since they cancel fire types, which as someone stated, are common, I think they are more powerful. They have far better moves than Ice - name some good moves? Aqua Ring, Brine... Oh and water types are always good to have around because you have to use Waterfall and Surf in the game sometimes.

Posted by: eevee64 Nov 17 2009, 08:28 PM

Ice all the way!!! Sheer cold!!!!

Posted by: MiTYH Nov 19 2009, 11:04 PM

Both stink, for sure. I'm a fire fan so water, yeah, it's not good. Plus there's too many water type. Not a fan at all.

Posted by: Aimee Dec 8 2009, 03:40 PM

Water, Ice is just so... Limiting. x]
I don't really specialise in them, I'm more a fire/dragon person. [=

Posted by: Ozzy Dec 26 2009, 04:49 PM

I seem to like Ice-types more, but I would say that water is better.

Posted by: Netbug009 Feb 4 2010, 03:10 AM

I like water types. I grew up enjoying swimming, so yeah. Although ice Pokemon does = instant cooler, so I guess it'd depend on the circumstances.

Posted by: gabite92 Feb 8 2010, 05:11 PM

The better type would be water because ice sucks against fighting types.

Posted by: Mr Cadju Feb 28 2010, 10:34 AM

ice because it has the FROZEN status.
water..hmmph...DROWNED status.

Posted by: Jigga Mar 16 2010, 04:58 AM

water...i say its the best type

Posted by: Unholy Shadow Mar 17 2010, 09:09 PM

If it wasn't for Swampert, I'd probably say Ice...

Posted by: Blaire Fields Mar 20 2010, 01:22 PM

I love water, but ice is awesome too.

Posted by: FancyGranola Oct 24 2010, 01:56 AM

Water. Need I say more? I only use Water Pokemon in my game. My main team is a Rain Dance team. Gen 5 is giving us Boiling Water, 30% chance burn is much better than 10% freeze. Just water... If I say anything longer I'd give you a wall of text.

Posted by: Dragonlord Haar Nov 15 2010, 08:02 AM

I think this poll needs a "They're both awesome" option. Therefore, I choose none.

Both water and ice are great, while my favorite Pokemon is water, ice has moves (Ice Beam, Ice Punch) that have pulled me through countless situations that water moves couldn't have.

Posted by: Dazmi Nov 15 2010, 09:45 AM

Allow me to break the... ice! </bad joke>

Posted by: Luneon Nov 15 2010, 10:15 AM

Both, because i love:

, , ,
AND
, , ,

Posted by: OkamiHokkaido Nov 15 2010, 10:36 PM

i like ice, because i like that type of pokemon better than water like froslass, walrein (even though its both), glaceon, and all the spheal, and cloyster
probably cuz they're my savior when i have dragon pokemon to fight horrified.gif
they're so hard to be if you don't have an ice move

Posted by: Stellar Spirit Nov 15 2010, 10:38 PM

Water because Water types can learn ice beam or blizzard via team so i think there's no much use for ice types..

Posted by: Scout Nov 19 2010, 06:49 AM

Both are alright, I guess. If I had no choice but to choose, ice, because water's everywhere.

Posted by: Blue Serpentine Nov 23 2010, 12:34 AM

Ice has always been the best offensive type, so I think I'll go with that. My first competitive team was a Hail team and I absolutely fell in love with the type and it's menacing Blizzards.

Water does hold one of my favorite Pokemon, Vaporeon, but the type is just too.. eh for me. Water type takes up like 40% of the Pokedex, and it's not all that fun to use anyway.

Never said I was right. This is an opinionated thread right?
However, I would enjoy if you would explain -how- I'm wrong.

As of Gen 5 maybe, but there's no use in being a troll about it. :]

Water is still eh to me, no matter the amount~

Posted by: FancyGranola Nov 28 2010, 03:49 AM

I'm not being a troll about it. I'm stating an obvious fact.

Water carries infinite possibilities of strategies. It is beautiful how flexible that type is. With Ice, you are limited to pure offense, no defense. How such a brutal type be possibly better than the most beautiful of types to use?

The polls demonstrate that GPX has taken over the battling community.

Posted by: Zero Gravity Dec 10 2010, 01:34 PM

ice types are my 2nd favorite type, sooo I choose ice... I'd kill for an Electric/Ice type

Posted by: Dead Bodies Everywhere Dec 10 2010, 01:38 PM

Water.

Posted by: CrowFeather Dec 11 2010, 05:52 AM

Ice. There aren't many Ice types compared to Water, which dominates all other types.

Posted by: CrowFeather Dec 11 2010, 05:52 AM

Screw you double post.

Posted by: Little Alien Girl Dec 17 2010, 01:36 PM

Ice. There are just more awesome ice types, at least percentage-wise since there are significantly more water types than pretty much anything else. I guess that's another reason, there are just too many water types so I get bored of seeing most of them. And I am saying this as someone whose favourite pokemon is a water type, I think that is saying something.

Posted by: Gellenduo Feb 26 2011, 04:22 PM

I likes Ice types better then water

Posted by: BarkAtTheMoon Feb 27 2011, 08:38 PM

Ice I guess. Ice types tend to be prettier *shot*

Posted by: SnivyCap Apr 6 2011, 09:58 PM

Water! Water is my second favorite type, the first being Grass. While they are both good options, Water has smexyness and also good Pokemon. Ice have good Pokemon, but for some reason they are sorta like a switching magnet to me. First they are attracted to me, and then not, then again, then not...

Posted by: Galahawk Apr 6 2011, 10:03 PM

Quite simply, ice. It's super effective against two more types than water is, INCLUDING two types that resist water.
Plus it's the only type other that dragon that's super effective against dragons, and it's the bane of pretty much every pseudo-legend barring Metagross. Soooooo... yeah. Kinda unanimous for me.

Also kinda because Ice Beam is my favorite attack, but that's beside the point.

This. Ice-types fear my Typhlosion. ~

Water. Ice may be good for dragon types, but really what else is it good for?

Posted by: Harry Potter rox Apr 15 2011, 04:37 PM

I can't decide they are both on my top 3 types. The other one is Electric if you were wondering.

There are various ice types, as well as normal, flying, fighting, dragon and other types that have pokemon eligible for learning surf and/or waterfall.

Posted by: HellLord2000 Apr 15 2011, 04:46 PM

Ice its always more cool ^^ and strong ^^

Posted by: okpo Jun 11 2011, 07:28 AM

Ice, it can defeat dragons

Posted by: Professor Stokes Sep 3 2011, 10:05 PM

Personally, I am partial to water because It's my favorite type, but it also has several advantages over Ice, the chief one being it trumps fire types, arguably one of the most common of all types. Another advantage is a water types ablility to learn moves of several other types, Inculding several powerful Ice attacks.

Posted by: Jewely Sep 3 2011, 10:39 PM

Water/ice. With Thick Fat.

Posted by: KyoushiroTheSilver Sep 4 2011, 06:56 PM

Water. Just overall more useful. Ice Pokemon usually annoy me, and I like using Dragon pokemon to knock out other dragons.

Posted by: Dark Way Sep 5 2011, 01:23 AM

Water

Posted by: TheLastSaint Sep 9 2011, 04:39 AM

I'm inclined to say that water types are better overall. They are more defensive in nature and most can learn Ice Beam and/or Blizzard, the most common move used to take out Dragons. Also most ice type pokemom are pretty much unusable imo, excluding a few like Abomasnow or Kyurem.

Posted by: Volmise Sep 12 2011, 08:16 AM

They both have their pros and cons, however I'm going to have to side with Water, just because of the diversity, better elemental resistances, less weaknesses and better ability to handle itself with or without its weather. (Hail, Rain Dance, etc.)

Posted by: Kashmir Oct 14 2011, 11:35 AM

In my opinion water is better and it's one of my favourites pokemon types.

Posted by: Lugia182 Nov 8 2011, 09:45 AM

I voted Water. Although Water/Ice dual-types are bitchin'.

Posted by: Problemberry Dec 13 2011, 06:36 AM

I voted for Ice, just because there are more Pokémon in that group that I really like or find funny.

Posted by: Dark Heart Dec 13 2011, 08:55 AM

Water, simply because it's my favorite type.

Posted by: tweeety Dec 13 2011, 10:29 AM

Ice is cooler (see what I did there? thrust.gif )

Posted by: Trueblade Mia Dec 13 2011, 03:48 PM

Where's the option both grin.gif

Posted by: S1LV3R Dec 18 2011, 04:05 AM

Ice.
Obv.
Considering it can beat the crap out of those dang dragons. :S

Posted by: MasterGemma Dec 18 2011, 04:44 AM

I like both of these types but I would choose water because where else can you get a brilliant Magikarp that can evolve into a strong Gyarados heybaby.gif

Posted by: alexandredias1234 Jan 27 2012, 04:13 PM

Water, because water pokémons can use surf and I love to swim in the sea love.gif angel.gif
