I'm in the middle of a rather insane variant of Nuzlocke that I found on the Nuzlocke Forum. It's called a PunishmentLocke (or PunishLocke for short). You have a list of punishments that will activate throughout the run. These punishments can range from minor annoyances, like not being able to use Pokemarts, to absolute devastation. (Punishments 39 & 40 in the list that I'm using)
There are 2 ways to trigger a punishment.
1. A Pokemon dies
2. You get a badge
Also, you get 2 "freebies", one from the start, and the other is Punishment #1. They don't stack and each punishment can only be rolled once, so if you get the Punishment freebie before using your starting one, tough luck. This was originally made to be done in HGSS; I'm just doing it in X as sort of a test run.
Punishment list, if you're interested (click to showhide)
1. Freebie. Get to skip 1 punishment. Can't be stacked so if you still have your freebie from the beginning too bad
2. No Nurse. Can't use Pokemon centers.
3. Store Closed. You can't buy anything
4. Underleveled. All pokemon must be at least 4 levels under the gym leader upon entering the next gym.
5. Heal Block. No potions until next gym
6: Slow and Steady: No running, roller skates, bike, or moves that increase your speed in battle.
7. Not Enough Room. Every item you pick up between now and the next gym you have to drop. EXP share? Lucky Egg? Master Ball? Bye-bye. And no coming back for them. You have to pick them up and discard them or just leave them to forever taunt you.
8. Place of No Return. You can't switch out any pokemon or run from wild pokemon battles.
9. Truant. You can't attack every other turn.
10. Genwunner. You can only catch and use pokemon from gen 1.
11. Work out. You can only use Normal, Ghost, Poison, Bug, Fighting, Steel, Rock, Flying, and Ground type Pokemon
12. Magic tricks. You can only use Fire, Grass, Water, Electric, Ice, Dark, Psychic, and Dragon type Pokemon
13. All Out Pummeling. You can only use damaging moves in battle
14. Unforgettable. Teach all your Pokemon a HM move. If they can't learn one of the HMs you have box them and grab someone who can.
15. Pure Blood. You can only use Pokemon with one type
16. Half and Half. You can only use dual type Pokemon
17. Duo-run. Randomly generate two types. You can only use those two
18. Climbed to the Top: You can only use fully evolved Pokemon
19. Bird typing. You can only use Pokemon eligible in Sky Battles (all Flying types and those with Levitate)
20. Wooper Knows Ice Punch. You can only use Pokemon with no arms
21. Bankrupt. After a battle keep track of how much money you've earned beating trainers. Then use that money to buy things then toss them.
22. Near Invincible. You can only use Pokemon with two or less weaknesses
23. Panophobia. You can only use Pokemon with 4 or more weaknesses
24. Dramatic Pause: You can't catch any encounters besides static ones. For now. You can come back for them after beating the gym.
25. Boys' Night In. You can only use male Pokemon
26. Girls' Night Out. You can only use female Pokemon
27. Loner. Check the Pokemon at the front of your party. You're now doing a solo run with it.
28. Lay Back and Relax. Check your party. You can't use the last Pokemon
29. Switcheroo. Switch out your party for an equal number of Pokemon from the front of your PC. You can change back after the next gym
30. Butterfingers. Your Pokemon can't hold any items
31. Door's Locked. You can't enter any buildings besides the ones story requires you to and Pokecenters and Pokemarts.
32. Underdog. You can only use Pokemon that are weak to the original typing of the gym
33. Swing and a Miss, or Two, Maybe Three. You must throw away all of your encounters between now and the next gym
34. Kaio What? You must start every battle with a stat increasing move including wild ones before fleeing.
35. Near Death. You can't heal your Pokemon until they're in the red.
36. The B Button is Stuck: You can't evolve Pokemon
37. Soul Link. If you have an even number of Pokemon in your party they will be paired with another. The 1st Pokemon will be linked to the 2nd and the 3rd is linked to the 4th. If you have an odd number of Pokemon then either grab a link for it from the pc, or, if you don't have any mons in the pc, box it until you've caught a link for it
38. Lifelong Partner. If your starter were to die, either by a Punishment or by being KO’d, you may instead declare two other Pokemon dead and never to be used for anything.
39. Blue Screen of Death. All Pokemon in your PC are now dead
40. Yveltal Awakens. Box all of your Pokemon in your party. They are now dead.
41: This isn't even my Final Form! You can't used fully evolved Pokemon
42: Answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything. If you've received at least 8 punishments, revive any one of your dead Pokémon. If not, throw out all your balls.
43: Exchange of Body and Soul. Until the next gym all your dead Pokemon are alive and all your alive are dead. This does not apply to any Pokemon caught after this punishment was activated.
44: Alphabetizing. You know Alphabetlockes? You're doing one. Randomly pick either Nickname, Pokemon name, and species name.
45: Yoink. Your freebie is gone. Have fun
46: Twinkle Twinkle: If you run into a Shiny you must have it on your team at all times
47: This is Why We Can't Have Nice Thing: You can't catch shinies
48: Double Trouble: Randomly pick two more punishments. They are now in effect.
49: Returning Cast: All of the punishments you've received are now back in the selection pool. Except Freebie.
50: Hole in Your Pocket: Throw out all of your items
Most punishments wear off after the next gym (
Although deaths via punishment remain in effect for the rest of the run)
Punishment 6 also applies to the Speed-up button on an emulator.
Also, punishment 42 originally allowed me to hack in a Master Ball if I'd received 8 or more punishments. I'm using a cartridge, so that's clearly not an option.
I can see why they call it a "punishment"locke, geez. I hope you emerge victorious!
