So, what exactly defines if a Pokemon is capable of telepathy or not? Sure, some are a given, like the Abra line and the Ralts one but what about some more obscure Pokemon? I'm mostly interested in Noctowl since it does display some psychic abilities to some extent and would it be okay if said Noctowl once belonged to an Officer? This wouldn't affect anything in battle or in levels but it could be used to explain how it learned to utilize telepathy through specific training. And I'm talking about telepathy alone. Telekinesis and such would not be usable without the proper moves.

Usually, if a pokemon has one of the more prominent psychic moves, or has a psychic parent, it can be argued that they would be able to utilize telepathy.
Even psychic pokemon who would definitely have this ability aren't immediately superb at using it, though, so the idea of the noctowl having had a previous owner who helped to train him to use this ability would be a good reason for the noctowl to be so practiced at it. A good piece of backstory you have thought up there. Basically, what decides whether a pokemon is capable of using telepathy is based simply on the decision of the RPer (provided the reason can be explained, usually by genetics). Though, if you're ever worried about whether or not it makes sense, or if it would be permitted, asking a mod is always the safest bet. -------------------- |

A pokemon who has an egg move due to the species of their father will be able to use that egg move upon their hatching. As they grow, the strength of the move will also grow. To follow up with this, are the egg moves subject to any restriction in the same manner as requested moves (mainly their power), or can any applicable egg move be used right away (but not be as potent as a pokemon of the proper level using it)? My Charmander for example has Hydreigon as the father, and all of the egg moves are over power 40. Would they still be usable as weakened versions? The third section here answers that question.

What is your policy for things that literally grow on trees? Berries and apricorns often work as substitutes for items one would buy in a pokemart, such as awakening, burn heals, pokeballs, etc. except they're free and all over the place... I would assume someone would have to find a craftsman to turn the apricots into pokeballs, but would they charge a fee for it? I also assume that there would be a limit to the amount of items you could acquire in this way per RP.

Since this is an RP currently set in an urban setting, apricorns and berry trees are probably not as prolific as they would be in a more expansive setting, but there might be some trees and plants with berries and herbs on the outskirts. Also, this is Sinnoh, the region of the third gen games. Apricorns aren't mentioned, and neither are Apricorn Artisans to make them into pokeballs. More than likely, you can buy the pokeballs you would want made from them, as imports from Johto
There aren't any limits set on how many of any general items you can have or acquire. Only those that would be game breaking, such as TMs (You can have as many as you want, but must ask for the moves) or expesive, like a silph scope. As a rule of thumb, if you can think up how to get it, and have a plausible way to do so (Money, a charge card, going out to pick a few berries), no one's going to say you can't. The only exception is how realistic it is. You can't go into a pokemart and buy 255 potions, as you would run out of money quickly realistically, and you can't go pick thousands of berries, as there likely isn't the plant life to sustain that many. Keep it semi-realistic. -------------------- |

okay thanks... and another thing, I want my character to start with a rattata, but I don't see it on the list of acceptable starters... does that mean I'll have to catch one in-game?

Seriously? I read that list at least seven times- how did I miss it? Well, now I just feel silly.
But I have another question: can anyone start an RP, or do you have to PM a mod with details? -------------------- |

Anyone can start one. There isn't a requirement, but we will watch them to make sure the rules are met.
And I played a trick on you. I had intended to add the first normals for the regions, and forgot. They were meant to be there, but they weren't there. Sorry for the joke! -------------------- |

(AHA! I knew it!)
Anyway, another question: I was reading Seeds of discontent, and I noticed that there was a lot of one player speaking for the other's character... Is that a thing we're expected to do in order to keep our posts long? -------------------- |

Many members in Uprising have OOC (Out of Character) boards for their respective RPs in the Discussion Forums, where they plan out what to do in the RP. Master Houndoom and I talk outside of GTS and discuss the details of our characters' storylines and the RP in depth.
Having moments where another's character reacts in your own post makes those posts longer and tends to make the RP flow more smoothly. The best way to do this is to discuss with your RP-partners how their character would react in a specific situation. Oftentimes, this can even result in your RP-partners writing that section of response. Master Houndoom and I have been known to write out a series of dialogue in Instant Messenger, because the act of bantering makes it flow all the better. It's not required, per se, but as it does make the RP run more smoothly when discussed, and the RPs are graded on how well they are written, in part, it's a good idea. But length is not important; quality over quantity, dear. -------------------- |

So I'm going to have to find someone willing to RP with me over IM if I want to do this right? Are RPs supposed to be planned out before anyone even posts?

Not necessarily. You're free to just post sequentially. Some of us find that it makes it easier sometimes to collaborate posts. For instance, Yzarc Drowsman and I will occasionally Facebook or MSN Messenger bits of rapid fire dialogue in order to get a good flow going. However, he's the only one with whom I'd use that method. It's definitely not a requirement, but it helps for some people.

So I'm going to have to find someone willing to RP with me over IM if I want to do this right? Only if you want to. Personally I find making a discussion thread for your RP enough to help the planning/communication process/ QUOTE Are RPs supposed to be planned out before anyone even posts? It's good to have a general idea of the direction you want your RP to go, just so everyone in your group is on the same page. You don't need to plan every tiny detail beforehand. That being said, Uprising seems to have an emphasis on missions. With the potential of members of opposing factions joining your RP, you should probably decide at some point who wins or loses and to what degree. -------------------- PANE Mod PANE x2 (click to show ) Credit for 2gamer's Seel of Approval (click to show ) |

Would it be okay to start an RP without knowing the outcome, and discuss it with the other RPers while it's happening on it's discussion thread? -------------------- |

Here's one that's deciding whether or not I apply for a certain Pokemon:
Let's say that a Growlithe levels up to level 34 and learns Flamethrower, then I choose to evolve it with a Fire Stone. Would it then gain access to Extremespeed as an Arcanine (a move which is also learned at level 34), or would I be forced to wait until 39 to get it (the move is available at 34 in BW2, and 39 in BW)? -------------------- Click above to go to the Party! We don't play hard and fast with moves. I would say he would get it at the earliest and leave it at that. We have even been retroactive: If the arcanine evolved, say, at 40, they would be able to learn Extremespeed as soon as they evolved.
