Global PokédeX Plus Forums _ News and Updates _ New Signature Rules

Posted by: Wymsy Feb 13 2008, 07:52 PM

DO NOT POST IN HERE SAYING YOU WILL FOLLOW THESE RULES.

You are only allowed to post questions pertaining to the rules.

---

I decided that with all of the members we have now, that setting some specific signature rules would be a good idea. Below will have all of the information you need, like signature height, images, etc. If your signature does not comply with the signature rules, you will be asked to change it. Refusal to do so will result in your signature being removed and an official warning. If your signature is constantly caught breaking the rules, you will receive an official warning for that too.

If you are unsure if your signature complies with the signature rules, please make a post for a check http://forums.gtsplus.net/index.php?showtopic=55.

Signatures are bound to global forum rules

Maximum signature height

If your signature is longer than 450 pixels, anything after it is instantly cut-off when you post. For your reference, here is an image that is 450 pixels high:

Images in signatures

You cannot have an image any bigger than 500 by 300 pixels exactly in your signature. You should not have more than one image like this in your signature. Here is an example if you do not know how big that is:

Medium-sized images are considered to be about 400 by 100 pixels. Here is an example:

There should be no more than 2-3 images like this in your signature.

Small images are considered to be 80 by 80 pixels. Here is an example:

You are allowed to have several of these images in your signature.

Images must not exceed 300kb in memory size.

Links and text in signatures

You may not put links trying to sell people things in your signature. Links to things such as your own forums or sites are perfectly fine.

Avoid using any text bigger than this (size 5)

Spoiler tags

You are not allowed to hide big images or text that exceed the limits in spoiler tags, and you should have no more than three (3) spoiler tags in your signature.

Added August 25th, 2010: You are only allowed up to 12 GPXPlus Pokémon/eggs in your signature. If you use the party image code, it automatically counts as 6. This means you can have 12 single images -or- 6 single images + 1 party image -or- 2 party images.

---

If there are any questions you have, please post them here.

So, we can't hide excessive image sizes in Spoiler tags. What size is considered excessive?

Anything bigger than 500 by 300 pixels.

Can an image be 600 pixels by 200 pixels. So it's longer but thinner?

Yes it can.

Posted by: blax8192 Feb 17 2008, 07:53 PM

this may be a stupid question, it's kind of a rephrasing of his but it'd clear it up alot for me, 300x500=1500 so it has to be under 1500 or so, like 400x400=160,000 total pixels, is it a specific pixel number like that or is it perimeter? 300+300+500+500=1600 is distance around and 400+400+400+400=1600, so how is that going to be measured exactly?

I think knowing this'll help me and probably other people know how legal their signature pic is without going in paint and counting the pixels =)

EDIT: I just measured the 450 pixels on the screen with my fingers and it was under, woohoo! =)

...You're looking too deep. It is not parameter or area, it is exactly 500 wide and 300 high. You don't have to count every pixel. If you right click ANY image (even on your computer) and select "Properties", you can see the dimensions.

umm...okay, I think I get it, *walks off scratching head*

Quick question: is there a rule regarding content? Like, I just added some eggs from another egg site, a dragon one, to my signature. Is that alright?

Other adoptables are fine so long as they're within the image limits. Which most adoptables are.

Your sig is more than fine.. there's people with way more than that. Anyways, there's a signature check thread.

Posted by: Raiden Jul 25 2009, 06:53 AM

So... I guess posting a Neopets referral link in a sig isn't allowed? ._.'

Posted by: Commander Wymsy Aug 31 2009, 05:49 PM

I made a small edit to the signature length limit, just so nobody freaks out when they see it whilst posting.

Yeah, man. Now know one will know that I am Bronzong on three different personality tests, and that I am caring person who feels the need to make his own path.

How will the world go on

No but seriously, people hide a LOT of junk in their spoiler tags, and it messes with people who have crappy connections. Please, think of the little guy.

Posted by: FueledByPokemon Sep 1 2009, 06:32 AM

This is stink Wymsy . Your gonna have to deal with a lot from people now

Posted by: Axel Sep 1 2009, 06:45 AM

What exactly is the cap for images? I occasionally get a message that I have too many images in my signature. The rules say I'm allowed have several small images. How many exactly is several?

you took the words right out of my mouth. It's best to delete the option to have spoilers in signatures completely now as it has become a useless coding. Except for in posts. Those could be useful still. But probably those will end soon too...

~~~~~~
@Captain Jim: not all of us put "junk" in our signature. I am in the Savior Project and I found a good way to store our saved pokemon links so that the creator of the contest and her verifiers could find it easily without having to go through tons of posts/pages in the thread. By putting the content in a spoiler in the signature. Now they just have to click and voilà, everything would be nicely listed. But the thing is...YOU HAVE TO CLICK TO OPEN THE SPOILER
It's only bad for those "little people" if you have a lot of images in your signature. Not when it's just plain words and coding. The number of images are already restricted by the forum itself.
I am actually one of those "little people" who have a bad connection and problem with my computer lagging all the time. But I never asked for such a restriction. It sometimes annoyed me when people exceed the width and height that's allowed in images, but that's where moderators come in and punish those who don't read the rules.
Wait a minute...I get it now. It's done so that the moderators won't have to work...the site does it for them now =)
Oh well, have fun answering all the future questions about why people's signature is cut...It can be classed under all the "no to trading" threads and all the other threads that are clearly a violation to the rules.
~~~~

Thank goodness this stupid rule got pushed through at the end of the month. Now I have 9 days time to find a solution to the Savior Project Recording.

Posted by: Waterwraith Sep 1 2009, 07:03 AM

I can't see much point in the cut off. Spoilers were made so that you can have large amounts of text and coding without stretching all the sigs. I do think people can have some useless spoilers, mainly those who just cram pictures into them. I can't see an easy way out though, some people can use a number of pictures without it being worthless...

Posted by: I am Dexter Sep 1 2009, 08:32 AM

I put most of my stuff in one spoiler so that it doesn't take up much space first look and so that I can have a medium image at the top without exceeding the limit.
Now, because of this cut off, my technique is pointless...I do not have excessive images, excessive amounts of images, large chunks of text or content which goes against forum rules...
Yet I find that my signature is cut off about 2cm after the beginning of the spoiler, rendering my signature useless.

I am now changing my signature so that it will work, but I am saving the old code to a word file so that if this is reversed, I have my signature saved.

Posted by: FueledByPokemon Sep 1 2009, 09:31 AM

@Frey ; I myself is in the Savior Project and I Do The Same . And Now Its Gonna Be Ruined If I Cant Store My Stats In It Like You . Wymsey and the mods have gone to far.

WHO AGREES ?!

@I Am Dexter ; You are right . Signatures that were once amazing are now gonna be slight crap

Posted by: Commander Wymsy Sep 1 2009, 11:49 AM

I'm still laughing at how people didn't notice you can go to somebody's profile and click the Signature tab and be able to see their entire signature without the cut-off. I did say the cut-off only comes into affect when posting.

By the way, I've seen many forums do this. And some of them weren't as generous as to allow you an entire 450 pixels before it gets cut-off.

Posted by: Luxord Sep 1 2009, 11:52 AM

It is generous I mean look at deviant art for instance, thanks for letting us know.

Posted by: CAR = BIDOOF Sep 1 2009, 12:27 PM

there, now you get a scrollbar for viewing the excess

now everyone can be happy!!!

Posted by: Waterwraith Sep 1 2009, 12:30 PM

Nice idea. Keeps the posts the same size and let's people put whatever the heck they want. Wins all round, by the looks of it.

hahahano

I will still yell at people for images that are larger than 500x300 or ridiculously long animations that have a huge filesize.

Posted by: Axel Sep 1 2009, 12:35 PM

dry.gif I don't like the way all the people bitching about the changes to the signature format is distracting the admins from answering actual relevant questions.

Posted by: Eliot Kovach Sep 1 2009, 12:36 PM

this way is much better...i mean, who will go to profile page just to look a signature...everybody loves to see them at posts.... cat.gif

Posted by: ChroniclerC Sep 1 2009, 01:10 PM

I think a hard size limit is a little unfair to people who hide a lot of text behind spoiler tags, but if there's gonna be a scroll bar, I guess it'll be less of an issue.

What I think would be more useful would be more defined restrictions (and better enforced) restrictions on the number of large images. *glares at the previous post* But that would entail more work for the real mods, so I understand if that idea gets shot down.

I think he meant within the rules, as in they can put in whatever they want as long as it is still within the rules.

...You definitely have too many BIG images in your signature. The other rules still apply, as Wymsy just stated, meaning you still have to follow the maximum image dimensions and the number of big images allowed. Fix it.

When I went to my signature on my forum page...it did cut off, that's when I first noticed it because I rarely open my signature up in posts for space saving reasons.

Not possible. The area in profiles does not use the 'signature' class in the div element, which is what has the new styling. Also, the only thing that was changed now was the overflow value. So if you go to people's profiles now and don't see a scrollbar on their Signature tab, then again that proves you couldn't have seen it cut off.

Alternative theory: you're talking about the "Edit Signature" page, which yes it uses the 'signature' class so it would also have cut off before and show a scrollbar now. What Wymsy mentioned was people's forum profiles, so perhaps you are confused. Because obviously you can't look at other people's "Edit Signature" pages, only your own, so wouldn't make sense for her to mean that page.

I don't know what it was when you posted this, but now it's fine. Doesn't even trigger the scrollbar. I'm sure it was something different earlier though and you already fixed it.

Okay, this is getting seriously frustrating for me, but I've tried to update my signature five times now, and each time, no matter how much of my signature I edit out, it keeps saying it's too long.

It's never had a problem with this before, is there a new character limit for signatures or something?

Because I won't be able to update it unless I chop out a bunch of stuff I REALLY don't want to remove. >_>
(such as the bios I worked EVER so hard to write up and make sure they fit)

Yes, it was lowered by a little over 50%. You really don't need that much text in there.. I didn't read what all of it is but I'm sure you can find somewhere that it'd be relevant to post them.

Question;
Since Im Slightly Confused . Does the text in the spoilers count as if it wasnt in a spoiler ?

Posted by: ChroniclerC Sep 7 2009, 02:54 PM

I'm fairly certain it's a character limit, which counts everything, including the characters used to make those spoiler tags, the characters used to insert the images... Every single letter, punctuation mark, and funny little symbol of the raw text used to generate your signature.

Is there a url limit to signatures?

Posted by: Zack777 Aug 25 2010, 12:47 PM

Can i use my signature to advertise something of my ownership?
like, the ones who send me a private message about, let's say, a movie advertised in my signature, I answer them with the download links (of Megaupload.com) of that movie...

Of course, the Megaupload files would be mine.

Sorry forgot that there were rules for this...

You are not allowed to hide big images or text that exceed the limits in spoiler tags, and you should have no more than three (3) spoiler tags in your signature.

So no, if it's beyond the limit of what is allowed in the signature, then you can't just hide it in a spoiler tag.
