Global PokédeX Plus Forums _ PANE Discussion _ Announcement thread

Hoping you all noticed this, but Furoh's now open. I think we've got everything we need to run well and efficiently except for the actual gyms and stuff, but that can wait for a while. If you have profiles from the old RP you want, don't worry, they aren't gone. I just moved them to the new archives. If you want it, PM me, Velyoukai, or Chore Boy, and we'll fetch it for you.

Any other concerns or questions, just ask here. I personally will be happy to answer them.

QUOTE("Starter pokemon thread")
Dark, Dragon, Ghost, Psychic, and Steel are all Restricted types, due to either a lack of suitable starters, or because of uber power.

I'm assuming you wanted to have four per type? Because I can think of several suitable Ghosts, Darks, and Psychics right off the top of my head.

Also, could one of ya'll PM me my old profile, please?

Posted by: Blaziken Jul 4 2008, 07:55 PM

Are we free to start RP threads and gather RPers?

Posted by: Falkyn Jul 5 2008, 07:29 AM

If you've got people to RP with, sure.

Posted by: Everstar Jul 5 2008, 11:31 PM

Not to sound like I'm complaining (I'm sure it could be interpreted that way, but it's not intentional. I likely wouldn't end up using one, even if they were available,), but I don't really understand why there can't be psychic starters, there are more than enough, even assuming you only use single type pokemon (with the sole exception of Bulbasaur, I believe, but that's canon so it doesn't count).

Abra and Ralts would be the obvious, but there are several others that could work as well (Drowzee, Wynaut, Mime Jr., and Spoink all come to mind.)

The only really 'uber power' ones would be Dragons... There are plenty of non-uber psychics, darks, and ghosts. Steel is the only one with a lack of possible starters, maybe dark too, haven't looked :/

EDIT: I looked, and it turns out Ghosts only have 3 (Ghastly would be the 4th, but is Ghost/Poison, not pure Ghost), and Dark and Steel only have one starter-eligible pokemon, s I guess there really aren't enough. I don't see any reason for there to be no Psychic starters, though, there are more than enough for that.

EDIT2: Actually, there's already another, non-canon dual-type starter in there, Snover. And on closer inspection Croagunk, Baltoy, Geodude, and some others. I was assuming they had to be single type without really thinking, but since you have quite a few dual-type starters already, there's no reason some of the others couldn't be used. Ghastly/Shuppet/Duskull/Misdreavus for ghost, Houndour/Murkrow/Poochyena/Stunky for dark, just as some ideas. I don't see how anything but dragons could be considered too powerful to be starters, and there are enough possibilities for the others (barring perhaps steel, which could also be considered a bit overpowered as a starter, though not to the extent of dragons). But then again, this isn't my decision, so I'll leave it at that.

And on a completely unrelated note, I'm finding it very difficult to write a profile when nothing on the entire continent is named yet, besides the one city whose name is mentioned in the history. Hopefully you can get those done soon, I don't think I'll be able to finish mine until you do, it just doesn't feel right trying to write it with directions instead of names and stuff x_x.gif

Posted by: Falkyn Jul 6 2008, 01:57 AM

I'm just not a big fan of those types as starters. If enough people start wanting them, I may add psychic to the list, but just that. I also tried to go for three tier evolutions most of the time, but when I couldn't I just settled.

I'll think up and propose some names in the staff board right now. Thanks for that reminder. ^_^.gif

Also, about the starters thing: We've picked 'em, and we're more than likely gonna leave 'em be. Constant fluctuation of rules and tons of member influence on a hundred different things is what killed the last RP, and I don't want us to shut down over whether or not someone wants to use a psychic type. irritated.gif

Posted by: JGatsby Jul 21 2008, 04:02 PM

I would really like psychic to be add to the starters.

Posted by: Jaima Jul 22 2008, 03:52 PM

I was, for one, hoping that dark would be added to the list, but I agree that anything with an immunity might be a little over powered.

... And now that I've said that, the would leave out ground (immune to electric), normal (immune to ghost), flying (immune to ground) and steel (immune to poison).

Still, if what there is is all there is, that's fine. I can catch a houndour later, yes?

Posted by: Falkyn Jul 22 2008, 11:12 PM

Yeah, nothing says that you can't go catch one. Most of the pokemon in the game are available for capture in the wild.

Posted by: Shoutai Jul 23 2008, 10:07 PM

just how will it be decided wich pokemon we encounter? and how is it going to be decided when we capture one succesufully?
=x

Like, for instance, I am going to want a scyther later on... How do I know where to look for him? and others?=x

Posted by: JGatsby Jul 23 2008, 11:38 PM

Yeah... I'll probably just go catch a Ghastly in my town because ghost and dark pokemon are in my town.

I miss things 'cause I work sad.gif

Where are the town locations/names and all?

Posted by: JGatsby Jul 26 2008, 05:30 PM

Its all here:

http://forums.gtsplus.net/index.php?showforum=104

Posted by: Shoutai Jul 27 2008, 06:43 PM

ok.. so according to falkyn, the pokemon we catch has to be in a place those pokemon ca be found...

What if, I give a very good reason for a chikorita(for instance) being in a swamp?
Is that ok? something like, she was being chased by gulpins and grimers! xD

Posted by: Falkyn Jul 28 2008, 12:34 AM

What was it doing in the swamp in the first place? Being chased is just a convenient plot device.

Just use your common sense. If you have doubts, PM a mod, and they'll tell you.

Posted by: Wooper Jul 29 2008, 12:38 PM

So...it IS open, right? Cause once I'm done my profile, I kinda want to RP...:/

I'd complain about the starters, but as long as Eevee isn't there, I'm cool with it...since EVERYBODY seemed to want to start with Eevee in the last two iterations of this RP :/

Posted by: Falkyn Jul 29 2008, 10:29 PM

I have a rule that I generally follow. The more people complain, the less likely I am to give them what they want. I respond better to well-thought out requests. And yes, we are open. People are just being slow to RP. *sigh*

Posted by: Falkyn Aug 2 2008, 01:56 PM

Multiple things I need to say right now.

First off, I'm glad for all the people who have helped put activity into this RP. All the mods have worked hard to make it what it is, and it warms my heart to know that people appreciate that.

Second, I'm pinning this topic and just using it to make announcements from now on. Woo!

Third: Everybody say hello to our latest mod, Kilvaer! Yes, I know what you're thinking. Don't we have enough already? But you need to take into account the fact that Mewtation, Dunsparce, and some others are kind of...not active, so I don't really consider them Furoh mods. Hopefully, you all will welcome Kilvy with open arms, because I know he'll make an excellent addition to the team.

Posted by: Wooper Aug 2 2008, 02:17 PM

HOT DANG, ALL STAR CREW HERE.

Awesome. Congrats, Kilvaer cat.gif

Posted by: Spamm Sep 8 2008, 06:05 PM

Note to all RPers: After you submit a roleplay thread for grading, you DO NOT have to wait for it to be graded and levels handed out to join another RP and start posting again. The mods are people too, and some of us don't read as fast as others. ^_^.gif

Calling all PANE Roleplayers!

The inauguration of our new Current Levels system is today! It will certainly revolutionize the ay we keep track of every active member's progression throughout Furoh, and will be a pretty cool database once it is finished. Go http://forums.gtsplus.net/index.php?showtopic=9558&view=getnewpost

Posted by: Michael Weston May 9 2009, 12:43 PM

Also, due to me not looking at the Starter Pokemon thread for forever, we have decided to change the Starting Pokemon Pikachu and Jigglypuff to Pichu and Igglypuff, respectively. Do not worry if you have already picked Pikachu or Jigglypuff as a starter, for we will not make you change it for our mistake. But yeah, go and make a Current Levels post.

Posted by: Living Arrow May 9 2009, 01:40 PM

Hehe! I raised the Pikachu//Pichu question back in July but was told it was right :p

Posted by: Bill Nye Jul 5 2009, 02:20 PM

It is my honor and privilege to announce Living Arrow as our newest member of the PANE team. Please welcome him warmly.

Posted by: CubeB Jul 5 2009, 02:36 PM

I'm not sure if I'm allowed to reply here really but... Congrats Living Arrow! You deserve it!

I do have a bit of a question regarding a potential plot thread being pursued. And I think that Bill did address it a bit, but I never got a clear yes or no answer.

http://forums.gtsplus.net/index.php?showtopic=14394 A yes or no answer is kind of a key part of planning our next roleplay...

But, yeah. If I'm not allowed to post here you can just delete this. sweat.gif

Posted by: Webbyness Jul 5 2009, 03:30 PM

Congrats, LA. =]
I'm sure you'll do a great job as a PANE Mod, and I think you're the best choice for it . ^.^

Posted by: Nezzie Jul 5 2009, 04:09 PM

Glückwünsche, Living Arrow! Hope you enjoy your modly status~

Posted by: Bill Nye Jul 25 2009, 05:52 PM

ALSO ANNOUNCING:

Jaima/HungryHungryHoundoom/Master Houndoom is our third (and final for a little while) moderator! Please begin the welcoming.

Posted by: 2gamers Jul 25 2009, 06:15 PM

Now he actually *is RP mod*

Congrats.

Posted by: Pumpkin King Jul 25 2009, 07:29 PM

It's about time. He was pretty much a mod even when he clearly wasn't a mod. Congrats!

MOAR ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Please be aware that one can now have a new character without having to start entirely fresh, due to a new rule in the rule section.

It can be found http://forums.gtsplus.net/index.php?showtopic=16823&pid=400426&st=0&#entry400426

Posted by: Master Houndoom Aug 2 2009, 02:22 PM

Still more announcements:

Modifiers for Pokemon Levels have changed drastically. We are testing it for a period of time, and, depending on feasability, ease of use, and possible abuse, may switch to another change after. This modifier ruleset is retroactive, meaning you will need to change your pokemon levels in your http://forums.gtsplus.net/index.php?showtopic=9558 post. The new rules will be in the original http://forums.gtsplus.net/index.php?showtopic=4208 Post.

Posted by: 2gamers Aug 2 2009, 08:25 PM

Just so I'm clear, the level modifiers only apply to "evolved Pseudo-Legendaries", evolved fossils, Aerodactyl, and Relicanth? Everything else has no multiplier, whether that be bulbasaur or venusaur?

Posted by: Master Houndoom Aug 2 2009, 08:43 PM

That is correct.

Posted by: Master Houndoom Aug 7 2009, 11:24 AM

Doublepost FTW!

Effective 8/7/09, all profiles that have not been accepted may now start with a total level of 20 instead of 15. There is still a limit of a starting level of 10 per pokemon, however.

Posted by: Master Houndoom Aug 22 2009, 11:50 AM

The ever coveted Triple Post!

I want to draw attention to the Wiki that has been started by us by Cube. Please take a look at it, and, if the mood strikes, set up your character's bios there. It IS canon, and there will eventually be information added about the cities and villages and countrysides, as well as pertinent NPCs around certain towns.

What does this mean? It means that if something is done in an RP that directly contradicts what is in the wiki, it can be used to take points off, so, eventually, it will be a resource to be used.

All facts about the major cities will be taken primarally from existing RPs and the information provided at the beginning of the RP in the Rules section.

The rules section has a link to it. If not, I'll come back and edit this post to provide one.

1. The Pokeathlon Challenge is now online! Check it out in the Rules board wink.gif.

The Great Purge II: The Empire Strikes Back

PANE Edition

This June, the Current Levels thread will be cleaned up. All inactive entries will be moved to the archives. If you are reading this, you're likely one of the active ones. So here's what I want you to do:

1. Go to your current level post.
2. Add the phrase "Rebel Scum" to your entry, before the quoted area. http://forums.gtsplus.net/index.php?s=&showtopic=9558&view=findpost&p=375937
3. That's it! We just need to tell between active players and dead ones. The census will be updated accordingly.

Cleanup will begin around June 15, but you really ought to have edited it before then. In fact, I highly recommend you do it right now. Go. Now!

NOTE: You can go ahead and get rid of the "Alive and Well" sentence.

I have sad news... My laptop died today. T.T

As such, it is to be noted that getting on this site will be a might bit more difficult than usual. Although I will still be online and roaming around whenever possible, time may be cut a bit and, until I can either get my laptop fixed or get a new one, it would be best if all inquiries and the like be limited to the asking of Living Arrow, Master Houndoom, or 2gamers (who could contact me if the question, for whatever reason, required my opinion, expressly, though I have my doubts on that).

... until later, then. I'll send you all invitations to my laptop's funeral.

Super Important Announcement

We have updated the starter list to include a fantastic variety of Pokemon! Back during PANE's inception, the original head, Falkyn, was no fan of Psychic, Dark, Steel, or Ghost types as starters.

Well, Falkyn is no longer head. After careful consideration, we have agreed to an amendment to the starter list!!!!!

Gaze upon ye new starters, and tremble -

Steel: Magnemite, Aron, Bronzor, Giaru
Ghost: Misdreavus, Duskull, Shuppet, Gastly, Hitomoshi
Psychic: Abra, Natu, Ralts, Mime Jr, Smoochum, Wynaut, Gothimu, Yuniran
Dark: Poochyena, Murkrow, Sneasel, Houndoor, Zorua.

And that's not all. We have updated the original types with SEVENTEEN NEW OPTIONS! Five more will become available when deemed appropriate by the moderators oh.gif.

Here they are!

Electric: Bachuru.
Flying: Spearow (why didn't we have this).
Grass: Bellsprout, Oddish, Sunkern, Cherubi, Churine.
Ground: Sandshrew, Cubone.
Normal: Skitty, Meowth, Aipom, Whismur, Yorterrie.
Poison: Ekans, Koffing, Yabukuron.
Rock: Rhyhorn, Dangoro.
Water: Chinchou, Poliwag, Tentacool.

Posted by: 2gamers Dec 12 2010, 11:29 PM

Remeber when those Unova starters escaped into Furoh? Yeah, apparently, some of them were Zorua/Zoroark in disguise oh.gif. They too entered Furoh. Their numbers are still few: a small population has been sighted around the Lenoilia area. That being said, some professors and breeders have had some success breeding them.

My point? Zorua and Zoroark are now catchable! Also, Zorua is now an official starter! All rules applying to the other Unova starters apply here too.

QUOTE
Pansage (Grass)
Pansear (Fire)
Panpour (Water)
Chillarmy is now Minccino
Gigaiath is now Gigalith
Megurocco becomes Sandile
Shimama is Bitzle
Mamepato is Pidove
Gear is called Klink
Hihidaruma becomes Darmanitan
Munna is still Munna

All of these pokemon are now available for capture. Unlike the starters however, these guys aren't quite wild. They can only be captured in the brand new http://pane.wikia.com/wiki/Safari_Zone! If you check the map in the Rules Board, you'll notice that a large island has been added north of Fidona. That's where the Safari Zone is located.

Again, only the pokemon announced are available for capture. Evolutions (or previous forms) are not available yet. Also, some of these pokemon may be available as starters. They can be obained through professors, breeders, and other means and are the exceptons to Safari Zone exclusitivity.

As a reminder, http://forums.gtsplus.net/index.php?showtopic=48773 is imminent. Check the Rules board and follow the instructions. Otherwise, you may find your character archived.

Minezumi is Patrat

Rankurusu (third evo) is Reuniclus
Desukan has been named Cofagrigus
Mogurew is Drilbur
Kibago is now Axew
Koromori is Woobat
Musharna is staying as Musharna

All of these are now catchable, though limited to the Safari Zone at the moment.

Also, we have yet another new location:

QUOTE
25. Demalr Cave: Demalr Cave formed not eons ago but a few weeks ago. A sinkhole appeared south of Gigarte after a tremor in the region. All sorts of fire pokemon have made their home here, perhaps former residents of the Carello caves. WHile people are excited about the prospect of a new hot spring spa, scientists are worried about the sudden increase in geothermal activity. Is Mt. Carello waking up? With the spring appearing so far from the dormant volcano, is it possible that the volcano is much larger than previously thought? How will the tremors affect the stability of Gigarte precious biosphere? If this cave isn't studied soon, thousands of lives could be at risk.

Note that since this is a sink hole, one would have to climb down the entrance rather than walk.

(idea and name from Dragon Mage)

Finally, if you were inactive in December, chances are that your character was caught in the Great Purge. Check on your profile and Current Level post before RPing again. If they're archived, PM me and I'll dig them out wink.gif.

All Unova Pokemon are now available for capture across Furoh, due to a freak accident in Daioh. If you already have an Unova Pokemon, it may now evolve. The starter list has been updated to reflect this, as well as the pseudo-legendary list.

As well, 2gamers, Master Houndoom, and Living Arrow have been relieved of their positions as moderators.

Starfall Field is over, and with it, three new locations are available for adventurers to explore!

26. http://pane.wikia.com/wiki/Starfall_Field: Starfall Field is located northeast of Aridana Desert and southeast of Daigake. It was once a lush grassland dotted with meteorites. After the events of http://forums.gtsplus.net/index.php?showtopic=55812, the grass was replaced by the fine purple-gray grains of stardust and many more meteorites, the remnants of the great meteor shower that rained down upon the area. It now resembles the surface of a moon, with very few plants around.

Close to the center of the field, there is a large statue depicting two abstract figures. One resembles a person, while the smaller figure appears to be some four-legged pokemon. It was built in memory of those lost in the giant meteor shower. Names of those lost are engraved on the base of the statue. It is custom for visiting trainers to leave an empty pokeball at the statue, signifying the undying bond between trainer and pokemon.

Despite its tragic past, Starfall Field remains a very popular destination for trainers and tourists alike. It’s a great place for stargazing, souvenir shops are cropping up, and a pokemon center has recently been built. There’s also an eclectic bunch of pokemon for trainers to go after, mainly within the two landmarks of the area.

27. Massive Meteor Mountain: In the center of Starfall field lays the giant space rock that nearly destroyed much of Furoh. With the help of the legendary Regis and the golurk army, the meteor was set down safely. As its name suggests, the meteor is huge: all of Arasam could fit inside. The rock is littered with tunnels used by Elgyem during the daytime. Trainers also venture inside, but the paths are treacherous. Tunnels can go straight up for several stories, or straight down. Those not paying attention could get lost or seriously hurt.

Spelunkers have reported that it becomes significantly cooler as one travels deeper within the meteor. No one is sure why, as there is no known access to the core of the meteor.

28. The Underworld: Beneath Starfall Field lays an ancient world recently rediscovered in modern times. It is a vast underground rainforest kept alive by a large lake and artificial sunlight from a volcarona hive. Pokemon once known as fossils thrive in this refuge, and trainers are sure to take advantage of this.

The area is also home to the Temples of the Regis. Three of the temples represent an element: rock, steel, or ice. Within these temples are puzzles and pokemon related to these elements, some quite deadly if one is not careful. Strangely, the Regis are not found; it is rumored they are responsible for changing the puzzles around. The last temple, Temple Gigas, is rather unknown. No one has explored the catacombs out of fear of the army of goletts and golurk that patrol the temple. Most visitors remain in the main room to bear witness to the dormant form of Regigigas sitting in his throne.

Some Non-PANE News (I won't post these often, but since it's a big RP event, I'll let this one in).

http://forums.gtsplus.net/index.php?showtopic=65504 is in pre-launch stage. This is a big RP event between three forums (see thread for list). It usually centers around a war of some sort, so expect a lot of action. According to the thread, it's also going to be one of those Mystery Dungeon style RPs. If you're looking for something a little different than your average PANE RP, you might want to check it out.

Posted by: Yzarc Drowsnam Aug 11 2012, 02:53 PM

Howdy, everyone.

First of all, I'd like to say I'm excited to be an official PANE Moderator. I really enjoy a lot of the writing that goes on here, and I'm happy to have the opportunity to mediate some of that, as well as critique when I can.

Anyway, onto bidniss, we've been discussing some changes, and decided that a lot of the rules we have are overly restrictive. So here are two major changes, which affect pokemon availability.

1. There is no longer a list of starters from which you must choose. This won't affect most people who already have characters, but for those of you who want to restart, or create a second character, as well as new members, you can pick any Stage 1 pokemon you want, as long as it's not a Pseudo-legend (of which we have a list in the RP Grading Thread).

We wanted to make this change because it just seemed unnecessary. You're allowed to capture any pokemon you want as your first capture, so it didn't make sense to limit your starter.

2. The Pseudo-legendary pokemon list has changed. We got rid of two pokemon on the list who we felt didn't really belong: Aron and Trapinch (as well as all their evolutions) are indeed powerful and cool pokemon, but that's not enough of a reason to make them level more slowly.

So, if you really wanted an Aggron, but the leveling restriction was keeping you down, I implore you to rethink that!

Another change within the pseudo-legend changes is that fossil pokemon no longer have leveling reductions. This was another restriction which, I think, kept people from getting the pokemon they really like. There are a few fossil pokemon out there (and I'm sorry to say, this change won't be retroactive) but my hope is that if you like a certain fossil pokemon, but didn't get it because it would level slower, you go for it.

Anyway, as always, feedback is welcome in the Members' Clubhouse. Also, feel free to shoot me a PM at any time if you'd rather do that than post in the clubhouse.

EDIT: Forgot to add that Larvesta and Volcarona are now considered pseudo-legends, pretty much because of how you get Volcarona and Larvesta in Black/White. You have to wait until post-game to get either an egg, or capture Volcarona (at level 70 or something) so it just seemed like if Metagross was a pseudo-legend, so should Volcarona.

I have some bad news I need to share.

Master Houndoom, who was a good friend of both mine and Living Arrow's outside of RP, passed away the weekend before last due to health problems.

Arrow and I are handling things concerning the RPs that Master Houndoom played in, and discussing the alterations with the mods, as needed.

I apologize for the delay in posting up about this, but I had needed time to make sure some things were finished before I made an announcement.

If there is anything anyone needs, feel free to message me.

Thank you, both of you, for taking this upon yourselves, and my condolences. MH did a lot for our community, and I think even those of us who weren't very close with him, even those of us who never spoke with him, will be affected. He'll be very missed.

If y'all need any help, let us know, and please don't feel the need to rush.

First, sorry for your loss. He was a pretty cool guy. I recall him vouching for me for mod somewhere in the staff thread. My best memory was getting up early in the morning to help MH finish his pokemon collection back in the 4th gen. The Kuonjis were my favorite characters in PANE. I always hoped that I'd get to be in a RP with them again someday.

My thoughts from the PMs. I think I'll spend some time reading through MH's RPs to relive the adventure.

I'll be temporarily taking on mod duties to help out.
