Ash has recently been pretty stupid. He's been diving off cliffs, jumping from trees, and diving into attacks to protect Pokemon(they're supposed to battle numbskull).

Has he always been this stupid, or is it just me?

At least he tried to catch that Spearow once... XDD But he could go wit catching Pokemon that don't want to be captured instead of, 'We like each other! FRIENDS YEAH!'

As stupid as a fictional character can get. In other words, it doesn't matter at all, it's all done for the sake of the show. Ash can't be blamed for what he does, he's in no control.

Ash has his smart moments regardless anyways.

Has he even actually caught anything this season? It's like all the pokemon just walk right into the ball these days.

My wife and I are always rollin on Ash. His stupidity never ceases to amaze us.
If he's not doing something like cliff diving then he's using a fire type against a water type or saying something kinda... well... derp derp derp. blargagh.gif

And how the hell is Pikachu even losing at this point? Shouldn't he be like level 100 by now? :p

But I honestly can't complain. As it is for 'the sake of the show' it probably wouldn't be half as enjoyable/funny if it were to change especially by this point.

The simple fact his pokemon rarely evolve shows he must suck. :L
But i guess it's just something to make the show go with the flow.

Ash is quite the numbskull. However, he can have his moments of smartitude. In fact he showed so be a bit of a mentor towards May in the Advanced saga.

It has to be like he gives a crap of the safety of the Pokémon as opposed to just winning. Case in point, the first Blaine battle, Ash withdraws Pikachu just as he is about to get hit by Magmar's fire blast and fall back into the lava.

And Ash's "No, you are not allowed to catch wild Pokemon"-attitude of his... Its just annoying, actually.

He also picks the weakest Pokemon and when he sees a super strong Pokemon in front of him, he just ignores it...

And in the first episode, the PokeDex itself calls Ash dumb...

You guys didn't really think he was supposed to be all smart-like did you? I like Ash the way he is, he's somewhat compassionate towards his Pokemon.

And why would he need to evolve his Pokemon? That doesn't change how they win or lose.

wow this is old

Ash is really stupid. He's also a child, so it's normal. He runs into things on sheer impulse, he says some dumb stuff, he makes decisions using his heart and not his brain, and the list goes on. In the first few seasons, primarily in Kanto and Johto, it was fun and I liked him that way. He was someone that, watching the show as a kid, you could relate to.

Now the dynamic is old and not as tolerable. I feel that after all this time his character should mature. But I disagree with a lot the show has to offer nowadays, so I'm a bit biased.

I think people might be confusing some of his stupidity for caring, I mean its anime show....so it doesn't exactly copy reality. Sure he has his moments, but most of the time when he jumps in the way of an attack or puts his own safety on the line for others though some look at it as foolish and could possibly be caring at the same time. As for not catching very strong legendaries, the reason behind that is.....most of the legendaries and stuff he has run into have a purpose during that time where they have met....for example....mew and Mewtwo.....well they didn't want the world to know, Lugia and the birds....all about the balance....Entei....was the imagination of the little girl. and so on, if you watch most of the movies and even the anime....I think the legendaries always have another purpose and if they were taken away it would upset that purpose, so Ash choose not to catch them but that is only a guess.

Caring and doing everything for his Pokemon, isnt that why we love Ash? ;P
It looks like he is stupid but he is only 10 years old!

And the anime must be exciting enough, would you rather see him jump off a cliff or simply walk the whole episode?

Well it's not like these things actually have an effect on him.. lolz
He does it cuz he cares for his pokemon, and sometimes he's a plain idiot(Like when he randomly falls off cliffs)

Very, very. He always jump from high cliffs, trees and another highly located places to save his pokes. C'mon boy, they are just pokemons, and can be healed from everything, but if you broke some of your bones, you have to recover for a long time. Also he always forget all pokemons, and check them in his pokedex, even those ones, which he used to have..... Sometimes it's really makes piss off....
