...a partner system would allow for a better character development system without the need to create NPC's.

Example: Lanette is Vincent's fiance. I want to give her official pokemon, and make it easier to tote her around with me in RPs. Can't do that too well with the current system without.

Why not? I really don't understand your argument.

QUOTE
I was thinking of having another character in future RP's to develop more of a side-story for Kishk's past, making it easier to understand his actions and whatnot. A partner system would make this much easier if I decide to make this character have an important role in RP's I'm a part of.

How so? Why can't you do any of these things with player owned NPCs?

Because, to a certain degree, they come across as, and RP like, impersonal characters without much personality. They also add this sense of unfairness to the other RPers, who maybe come in with a team of human PCs that can't cooperate as well as a PC and an NPC driven by a single mind. This system would open up a more personal and more fair way to employ NPCs.

Do you have reasons not to implement it? As far as I know, it's been very popular over in PANE.

Changing the title from recurring NPC to Partner won't change that. That's dependent on one's RP skill.

Then they can create their own NPCs. Problem solved.

The reason partners were added to PANE was so that NPCs could participate in gyms, contests, etc. None of those things exist in Uprising, so I really don't know what you're expecting out of this system.

The mods are discussing this, so stay tuned.

I mean that they would be capable of having Pokemon that level up, instead of just encountering the character again who "mysteriously" has stronger/evolved Pokemon. It's all part of that RP'ing aspect that keeps things realistic, under control and a bit more organized.

2G has a point, though. There are no gyms or contests in Noverus, so a literal partner system (like PANE's) is redundant to a degree. Although the idea has merit, it wouldn't function the same way as it does in PANE.

So... this isn't so much a suggestion as a question, but this seems like the best place for that question, unless it's already been answered somewhere else.

Anyway, with the release of Black & White (the pokemon games, not the game by Lionhead Studios :P) do rules get updated? Like, is tackle now more powerful and accurate, for example? If we get a hold of a TM, can we use it infinitely? Those are pretty much all I can think of off the top of my head, since I don't actually have the new games.

The accuracy and power of a move has more or less been up to the roleplayer as it is. While we do comment if a move has gotten too powerful, for example someone one-shotting a pokemon slightly higher than theirs with Quick Attack, which has a relatively low power, mostly things go as the writer needs them to and no comments are made. Having said that, yes, we will be taking the increased power into account. The accuracy... well, people only miss when it's good for the story to miss, and a 5% boost in accuracy isn't going to effect writing much as it is. grin.gif

I haven't seen anyone use a TM before, and I was inclined myself to have them be indefinitely useful anyway as a case of real life writing the plot: They're depicted as CDs or DVDs rather than before when they were kind of large heavy machines with one-shot programming. It's very hard to erase a CD or DVD unless it's specifically made to do so. I cannot find any example of how it was handled in the anime.

So, in short, yes, the rules are reflected as much as they can be in this type of media grin.gif

I know I'm not currently a member of Uprising, but I have an idea that I would like to use for the character I'm working on. Here's the idea: Police/Military Personnel. It could be either implemented as something like an optional set of faction ranks for Civilian or it could be its own faction, where you start out as something like your average mall cop or something. What do you think? If needed, I could expand some more on this (possibly).

In Noverus, Team Magma are the ruling faction, meaning they act as the police of the city, from what I gather at least. If you wanted to be law enforcement, they're your best bet, though there is some corruption tied to them obviously.

Part of being a Civilian is being separated from the factions. It is both a blessing and a curse that a Civilian doesn't gain ranks and therefore rise in position. For that reason, police officer won't be something that is available as a rank to Civilians to earn. An individual character could certainly be a police officer or some fashion, but one must remember that the city is corrupted, and most police officers that there are will likely have been bought off by Magma long ago, so they look the other direction when some sketchy deals go down. That's not to say that all police officers will be bad. There may be one, or even two, out there who are decent a choose to do what they think is right, rather than pander to the coin, but they, too, will have to deal with not only the factions influence on their chosen profession, but those they work with who are corrupted, and dirty.

As an individual biography, it's a good idea.
