Global PokédeX Plus Forums _ Pokémon Debates _ The WORST pokemon game ever?

Posted by: Elegant Flare Apr 29 2010, 06:48 AM

Lets face it, pokemon fans. There has probably been at least one time when a pokemon game hasn't quite pleased us as much as we would have liked them to. Video game series can have their ups and downs, and pokemon is no exeption.

Which pokemon game (ANY pokemon game) have you found to be rock bottom on your list?

Posted by: Kintenbo Apr 29 2010, 05:33 PM

While I never played it directly, watching my sister play Pokemon Channel made me shiver. Although, Pikachu asking if it could eat that one rubber ball was epic!

Posted by: doped up dolly Apr 29 2010, 05:37 PM

Ugh, Pokemon Battle Revolution?
I think that's one it's called -- the one for Wii.
I've played it once, and I can't quite understand how it would be capable of keeping anyone's attention for any amount of time. There was ... very little to do, and none of it interesting.

Posted by: LexDoom Apr 29 2010, 05:38 PM

To me was the Pokemon Puzzle League to me its boring so its rock bottom

Posted by: ARCEUS May 6 2010, 04:36 AM

Pokemon rumble, the last boss is near impossible (WITHOUT hacking) even with 3 players and the codes the official site gave out were duds dry.gif

Posted by: Lazy Trainer May 6 2010, 09:19 AM

Team Turbo.

Never heard of it? Good.

Posted by: Rika Kitty May 12 2010, 07:50 PM

I tend to avoid spinoffs for this very reason |D

The only one I really ever played was Pokemon Channel. It amused me for a while, but then it got boring REAL fast...

Posted by: Countess Noxi May 15 2010, 04:13 PM

Worst game ever? I'd have to say Pokemon Dash. For some reason I just didn't see eye to eye with it. DX

Posted by: LexDoom May 15 2010, 04:16 PM

i got a new one pokemon Black and white Because it not out in the US after like 2 months After its out in Jap. happy.gif so yeah once i get it then i might love it

Posted by: carriesnintales May 15 2010, 08:05 PM

in my opinion i thought emerald just didnt deliver up to the hype it recieved

Posted by: Bones May 15 2010, 08:40 PM

All the Pokemon Games I've ever played have basically met my expectations.

However; Hey You Pikachu! Kinda let me down (Even though it is a cool game) and Dash was pretty boring.

Posted by: LikeitsMaddie May 22 2010, 06:19 PM

Mm.
I'd say that most spinoffs aren't that great, though some are quite fun. :'D
If I were to choose a main series game, I'd say probably the third generation. While they were my first Pokemon games (seriously) I just didn't like them as much once I'd played generation 1, 2, and 4. c: It was quite bland and boring, and hard for me. Dx For a while, anyway.

Heartgold and SoulSilver.

Rocket: Give me your pokemon.
Protagonist: ...
Rocket: Fight Me.
Protagonist: ...
*battle against Zubat, Meowth and others in which you must beat the dime a dozen Rockets*
Rocket: Duh hur! Okay we'll leave since you just handed our asses back to us. Giovanni probably is gone anyway!
Protagonist: .....

The plot summarized.

I dunno, I guess I got too hyped for it. Sure, the shiny new stuff was cool... for like a month. I guess I just kinda got bummed that the Rockets didn't put up more a hassle in Kanto. (Or Johto... I always get them confused pinch.gif)

While I don't think Heartgold/Soulsilver were the worst, I do think they were disappointing. Especially Kanto. I hated that the Pokemon in the grass in Kanto were all low level. And yet trainers there had high level Pokemon. I couldn't even start a new team like I wanted to because of that. Plus, like you mentioned, the plot was just boring and unoriginal. And I wish PalPark was earlier in the game so I could of got Pokemon from my other games. Hopefully White/Black will be more original than it's predecessors.

Posted by: Hayato Jun 2 2010, 04:47 PM

It looks like Black/White would be, lol

Right now the worst imo is probably Sapphire..
I don't like Gen III

Posted by: Reyo Jun 3 2010, 02:13 AM

You know Soul Silver was a REMAKE of Gold, Silver, and Crystal, right? Dissing SS and HG is like dissing 2nd gen altogether. Hell, I have Crystal right in front of me. The Kanto pokemon are low leveled, and if I remember correctly, Team Rocket's dialog/team setup has always been that horrible. You got something against 2nd gen, bro!?

*looks intently at two previous comments*

But yeah, I played a little of Pokemon Snap, and it just bugged the hell out of me. Sure, getting pictures of pokemon was "fun", but I started playing the pokemon games for the simple fact that I could materialize a team and kick ass. You can't do that in pokemon snap.

Posted by: methuselah alchemist Jun 3 2010, 02:21 AM

Hmmm that's a tough one. I don't think I've actually disliked any of the RPGs or the spinoffs I've played, but I guess Pokemon Dash would be at the bottom of my list. The courses weren't all that exciting, and it got old HAVING to be Pikachu. I mean, I like him,, but why not let you choose out of the others too?

Wow, some people dislike Puzzle League and Snap? I freakin LOVE those games. Especially Puzzle League. Think I need to retrieve an N64 from the basement and play that one again. lol If I could find Snap at a used game store, I'd buy it for sure. I never got to play it all that much when I borrowed it from my friend, cuz my mom fell in love with it and played it all the time.

In my defense, pokemon snap was really the only spinoff game I've played...and it was because a friend of mine had the game and let me play for half an hour while he did chores. It would be unfair for me to say "I hate Pokemon Dash. I never played it, but FUCK YOU!"

Posted by: methuselah alchemist Jun 3 2010, 02:35 AM

Yeah, I understand; you can't really judge games you haven't played. Pokemon Channel looked pretty boring to m, but I never got to play it, so I can't say anything about that one. Though it does look similar to Hey You, Pikachu, and even though Pikachu was a little brat who ignored me most of the time and didn't like to sit in front of his TV for hours so I could play his videogames, I still loved that one.

You know, now that I think of it...I've been playing nothing but the classic pokemon games. Well...there's Collosuem and XD, but they were the same basic thing in 3d form (ignoring the whole "shadow pokemon" thing). I've spent the last 10 years or so doing the classic "develop a team and battle them through the game" game style. I don't think I'd be able to take any of the spinoffs srsly if I were to try them...

...*goes back to battle frontier on SS*

The only spin-off I ever played was red mystery dungeon but that was good compared to...

Pokemon dash! You can only play with pikachu on normal mode, it damages your screen, there arent many good courses, and graphics are strange.

Posted by: RollZero Aug 21 2010, 11:02 PM

Pokémon Dash, it's boring just playing as Pikachu in a constant race. Would had been better if you could switch Pokemon. I lost interest very quickly in this.

Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire. One Pinball game was more than enough for the Pokemon series, and this one just didn't hold my interest as well as the first one.

Posted by: Wishie Aug 21 2010, 11:08 PM

Pokemon ranger. i hated that one1 i like the new one more whenever you would circle a pokemon and then pick up your stylus you would have to do it again! i also hate pokemon trozei it can be fun at times but sometimes your like blah this game sucks

Posted by: Ceirani Aug 31 2010, 01:40 PM

The worst, including spin-offs, for me is Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Red Team. It is difficult to play through because there is no driving force behind the game after the main plot is done... The turn based dungeon isn't my style at all. Also, pokemon Dash, which seemed like just a test of some sort for Nintendo.

As for the main games, Ruby and Sapphire. The pokemon themselves were great, like Milotic and Lati@s, but the plot and gameplay was a giant bucket of failure to me. Although, in terms of the actual Pokemon, Diamond and Pearl were flops.

So. Many. Legendaries.

Anyways, thats my opinion.. -flees-

Posted by: Blak99Psy Aug 31 2010, 02:02 PM

I didn't like Ruby/Sapphire's region or plot. It was all rather blah. The only saving grace for Emerald, for me, was the Battle Frontier. I actually loved that Frontier and all of the challenges and was pretty peeved when they changed it. Toss rocks at me all you wish.

Anyway, the region map and the palettes used bored me compared to the previous two games, even though they were technically better. I understand that the theme was supposed to be some sort of "natural, earthy" thing, but nothing really stood out besides Fortree City, IMO. At least that town had a gimmick.

All of the mechanics and Pokemon were extremely fun. It's just that the plot didn't pull me in and the overworld was kind of dull. I used to think that those parts of a game didn't really matter, but this was a good example of how they do.

EDIT: And another thing, it is extremely possible to use nature and Earth tones in a way that makes them just as exciting and engaging as other colors and themes. It's just that it takes lots of time and care and revising to accomplish.

EDIT2: And the raining ash part was nice. They used the environment to their advantage there, as well.

Posted by: AetherWolf Sep 7 2010, 12:44 PM

For the main games, I disliked Gen III for many reasons which I cannot state without being blasted off by defensive fanboys... *ding*

For spin-offs... well, I've avoided most of them to this day, but out of the ones I played, Pokemon Rumble is the worst.

Posted by: Gijinka overload Sep 7 2010, 12:52 PM

I have to say Pokemon Dash as you can only play as Pikachu.

Posted by: Neo Pikachu Sep 7 2010, 05:49 PM

Wasn't too crazy about Dash either. Too much touch screen abuse, and the course wasn't well-defined either, as it was pretty easy to get lost.

I really didn't like Pokemon Ranger though. For one thing, it was pretty hard, repetitive, and just downright frustrating.

Posted by: Dango Sep 8 2010, 08:31 PM

Maybe it was because I had no skillz but I hated the Mystery Dungeon series. sad.gif Soz.

Posted by: Masterge77 Oct 7 2010, 07:07 AM

The worst Pokemon game in my opinion: Pokemon Ranger 3, and I'll tell you why (hold on you your seats, because this is going to get LOOOOONG):

The first Ranger was a great game, though it did have many problems, such as having to draw 28 loops just to catch Salemence, and if you got hit, you had to start ALL OVER AGAIN, not to mention that there was basically NOTHING to do after beating the final boss, just the Capture Arena and 3 irrelavant quests that involve the Hoenn legendaries, and they were relatively poorly made, not to mention that the game could be easily completed in under 12 hours no matter HOW good you are at it.

The second Ranger game was a MAJOR IMPROVEMENT over the first game, with a story twice as long, more characters, and better villians, not to mention that there were more Pokemon to catch, more areas to explore, and TONS of sidequests to keep you occupied, probably the biggest improvement was catching Pokemon, no longer do you have to circle dozens of loops to catch a Pokemon, it added an "HP Meter" to the Pokemon you caught, allowing you to circle Pokemon, pause, then keep drawing loops even after you were hit, but if you idled for too long, the meter went down, and oh, did I mention the MULTIPLE partner Pokemon? The game did have a few problems of it's own, for example, certain characters, such as the Partner Pokemon of ally Rangers, are mentioned, seen and then never mentioned or seen again, for example, Keiths Buizel, he is seen many times, then seen one last time in Hippowdon Temple when Keith is kidnapped by Team Dim Sun, then is never mentioned or seen again, with the characters acting like Keith never even had a Partner Pokemon in the first place, this is very unlike the first game, in which the Partners of the Ranger Leaders are seen on the upper floor of the bases, not to mention Plusle and Minun, who are seen together multiple times in the game, especially during the end of the first game, when Lunick and Solana are together, and both Partners are seen, while as Keith and Kellyn or Kate, only your partner is seen, and not the Buizel, that is unless you caught a Buizel that is, but that's just the story, the rest of the game is fine in it's own rights.....

The third Ranger is one of those games where Nintendo is either a genius, or an idiot, in this case, Nintendo is an idiot, your mileage may vary on Ranger 3, but in my views, it was HORRIBLE, I can go on all day about how bad it was, for starters, there's only ONE Partner Pokemon, and that is a Pichu, of all the pokemon they could have chosen, they chose a PICHU, and with a Ukelele for some odd reason, I don't remember HOW THE HELL he got the Ukelele, or why it even NEEDS a Ukelele in the first place, especially when we JUST GOT Pikachu Colored Pichu and the Spiky Eared Pichu the previous year, it's like Nintendo is OBSESSED with Pichu despite the fact that it's evolution is THE BLOODY MASCOT OF THE FRANCHISE!!!!! And then there are the legendaries, THEY GET TOO MUCH OF THE SPOTLIGHT, and you can easily forget how to draw the titiluar Guardian Signs, but those are just some of problems, let's just say, they could have done a lot better with the third game.....

Outside the Ranger games, we have Puzzle League and Puzzle Challenge, Dash, which was mearly an attempt to entertain Pokemon fans while Diamond and Pearl, which were infinently better in every possible way, were just getting out of their beta phase, Hey You Pikachu, Channel, which is basically a sequel to aformentioned Hey You Pikachu, Rumble, all three of the Adventure Squad games (I guarentee you that they are making the REAL Mystery Dungeon 3 right this minute) and most recently, Pokepark, aka Nintendos attempt at making Pokemon cash in on the Mario Party fame and failing miserably at it.....

On the subject of GOOD Pokemon games outside the main series, we have the previously mentioned Ranger 1 and 2, both Mystery Dungeon games (well, mostly the second, first was good in it's own rights), and Trozei, I don't know what to say on the Pinball games.....

Posted by: Dazmi Oct 7 2010, 10:52 AM

I haven't played all of the spin offs, so I'll just list some that I played and didn't quite enjoy.

Pokemon Puzzle League was an http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VFPt7KreUAE game. If you care for your sanity, play it with the sound off. It earns cool points because that game is deliciously hard and it's very satisfying to beat on the hardest difficulty level.

Dash sucked because you can only be pikachu and it's quite the easy game.

Channel and Hey you Pikachu was just mindless fodder, but it might be good if you're really young.

Ranch was absolutely pathetic, so I guess I choose this.

Despite what everyone else says, I enjoy playing Pokemon Rumble. It`s just that one sandbox-like game that people hate on. But I just... HATE the fact that it`s nearly impossible to beat Mewtwo or Advanced Boss 1 in one try.

Posted by: Rin Kaenbyou Oct 7 2010, 01:14 PM

Crystal. Gold and Silver were fine and all, but there were little to no interesting changes at the time and I think it was compounded by the fact that I couldn't catch a few of my favourites in the game without trading (one GBC and two games means zero trading)

Yellow had significant changes, Emerald had significant changes, and Platinum had SOMEWHAT significant changes, but Crystal took the things away that I enjoyed.

Posted by: ojamamask Oct 15 2010, 05:48 PM

Pokemon dash was probably the worst i've played but there were a few close ones like pokemon snap and pokemon trozei(link)

Posted by: Silvair Oct 15 2010, 06:15 PM

Hmm, hard question, but I'll say that it's Trozei. As much as a puzzlefag as I am, I just didn't feel the love.
As for the actual games, I'd say Ruby and Sapphire. Emerald totally saved my life with the battle frontier. I mean, the storyline... was just bleh. In terms of Pokemon, however, I think that Hoenn did a decent job.

Posted by: Zero Gravity Dec 10 2010, 01:49 PM

for me, it was Battle Revolution....

I would have liked an XD/Colosseum storyline implemented into it, frankly the Magmortar, Electivire and Pikachu (in addition to the stupid expensive items), just weren't enough. it also didnt help there was no way to choose whether to follow tournament rules or not, every friggen battled involved Darkrai and/or Arceus. Also the customizable trainers SUCKED.

Posted by: Little Alien Girl Dec 17 2010, 01:48 PM

Of the main series I'm going to have to go with Ruby (the only one of RSE I actually played). There was water everywhere and the gyms were irritating. There was more but it's been a while since I've played it so I don't really remember everything that bugged me about it.

I haven't played many of the spinoffs but none of the ones I've bothered to play have actually been bad. However I have seen gameplay of Snap and I can honestly say that is one of the stupidest concepts for a video game I have ever seen in my life.

Posted by: ReinisC Dec 18 2010, 05:47 AM

Pokemon XD, altho its a nice game , gameplay-wise, 3d has just never seemed good on pokemon for me..

Posted by: Shinzu Feb 5 2011, 05:52 PM

Team Turbo.

I love that game to death, but it's boring after too long of playing it (and I heard they spelled Rayquaza wrong...).

Another I can say is Ranger. I've never played it, but it looks extremely boring and hard. ._.

I liked MD, but it was way to hard.

Posted by: ComparativelyUnique Feb 6 2011, 11:49 AM

Emerald really was horrible. First of all, I hated the stupid rival (nice rivals bug me), the land was really boring, I didn't really like the plot. Some of my favorite pokemon come from Honnen, so the game wasn't a total disaster, but still. I couldn't wait to get past the story line and train my cute little Cacturn.

Posted by: pikachukick900 Feb 21 2011, 10:09 AM

I think ranch was the worst. All you do is watch the Pokemon walk around, transfer your pokemon, and get some more pokemon in your game. Battle Revolution is a close second, though.

Posted by: Neko Wolf San Jul 11 2011, 10:36 AM

Well I've never played games like Pokemon Battle Revolution, Channel, Trozei, Snap, etc, but out of any of the pokemon games I've played I'd say Ranger. Even though it was quite fun at first, as I was playing it I sort of forgot that I was playing a pokemon game. I played Ranger 1 and 2 but I never bothered to play Ranger 3 because it didn't appeal to me that much.

Posted by: Arutemisu Jul 14 2011, 09:28 AM

Ranch for sure. You do NOTHING but watch your Pokemon walk around as neckless....toys. I liked Pokemon Battle Revolution. But I swear you do less damage in PBR then the RPG Games. But when I lost my Diamond Game, my Pokemon were still in my PBR (lawl, Tart the Torterra XD) And I almsot cried when my Stupid Sister deleted my Files. Another things that bugs me is that you have to create a new file to Transfer your Pokemon from a different Game. (I had 3 files in PBR, one for Diamond and one for Platinum)

Posted by: Tatsuya156 Jul 14 2011, 05:26 PM

I agree with everybody who said Pokémon Ranch.

The Pokémon there looks weird, you cant do anything. And it is a waste of money... And because you dont just copy your Pokémon over there, but really transfer there you will lose all your Pokémon on the ranch if your Wii is broken. Which happened to me...

Posted by: Surt Jul 15 2011, 02:52 PM

honestly, before I played ranch I thought pokemon trozei was the worst. But after playing ranch...ugh, I know its been said time and time again already but jeez, you really do nothing, just watch your pokemon bounce around, looking like pieces in a board game.

Posted by: SmugleafForever Jul 18 2011, 02:42 PM

My Pokemon Ranch.

Posted by: Cyndagrill Aug 20 2011, 01:03 PM

Pokemon Puzzle League, never got my attention.

Posted by: Professor Stokes Aug 24 2011, 01:00 PM

My Pokemon Ranch, you sit there and watch your pokemon do nothing.

Posted by: Auroralei Aug 25 2011, 09:15 PM

Pokemon:The original ranger game, still trying to beat it!

Posted by: Shiny T Jun 14 2012, 06:31 AM

Pokemon Link, Mystery Dungeon-series, Ranger-series, Pokemon Dash...That pretty muchraps it up.

I really prefer the original "trainer & Pokemon"-like games.

Posted by: Jen Jun 18 2012, 02:10 AM

I haven't played a lot of these ones being mentioned. I kind of feel like I'm missing out. sad.gif though maybe not

Hey you pikachu was awful. Dumb thing never did what I wanted it to do. Thankfully it was only a rented game.

Pokemon Snap is cool (Pikachu rides on Articuno's back! <3), but it's terrible in the way that you can beat the whole game in one sitting. There's maybe 2-3 hours worth of play, and there's no extras to really do afterwards either.

Posted by: LM4 Jun 18 2012, 02:18 AM

Battle Revolution, really stupid sometimes like mixing up your Pokemon with your foe.

Posted by: lorks Aug 21 2012, 06:51 AM

the pokemon ranger games get super boring after a while. all of the main games are great though, it's mostly the spinoffs that can suck.

Posted by: Joxer Oct 4 2012, 03:27 PM

Pokemon Revolution on Nintendo Wii is probably the worst, no story mode!!! jeez

Posted by: A Llama Oct 4 2012, 03:30 PM

I hate Battle Revolution, but I hope they still make console games.

Posted by: Lugia182 Oct 10 2012, 07:45 AM

Got to be DPPt for me. Just never got into those games really. The rest, I love.

Posted by: Count Bratula Nov 24 2012, 03:32 PM

Trozei is way too repetitive. I actually liked Battle Revolution, though it could be better if it had a story.

Out of the main series, B/W/B2/W2. Didn't play my Black version for 2 hours before I got bored.

Posted by: SilverLugia456 Nov 26 2012, 06:05 PM

It was some sort of pokemon puzzle game that I played once that I didn't particularly like,

there are also some games that I have played that i think could be improved now since gaming technology as changed since when they first came out like Pokemon Snap, maybe another Pokemon Stadium.

Posted by: Wolf Link Nov 26 2012, 06:43 PM

^ That's a wonderful idea. I'd love to see Pokemon Snap remade.

I think mine would be Pokemon Dash. I never liked it since I stink at racing games. Plus, there were no surprises.

Posted by: SacredHeart Jun 21 2014, 12:34 AM

Red and Blue...Sorry it couldn't finish it and mind you I started with Gold ad Sliver,it bugged me to no end

Posted by: Snowsky Aug 9 2015, 03:36 PM

Pokémon Rumble World. I wouldn't say that I hate it, exactly, but it's frustrating. Very hard to capture Pokémon consistently (still cursing the Latios I accidentally let go, and still have yet to find a Gutsy Pokémon), and you can't switch if you're being mobbed by Pokémon, which makes it much easier to lose for stupid reasons.

Posted by: shadowlarvitar Nov 8 2015, 10:07 PM

Hey you Pikachu! Don't get me wrong, it's a good game. I could just never complete it due to you having to pass the pinata game. And Pikachu flat out refused to do whatever I said in that. They should have had buttons to press for commands to give if Pikachu didn't hear/understand you.

And it was just that mini game. Anywhere else Pikachu listened to me clear as day.

Posted by: Megalovania Jan 4 2016, 07:14 PM

going with the main series here and saying X/Y. what to heck

Posted by: Jewelwriter May 29 2019, 10:28 PM

AS far as Mainline games I would call this barely a real game. The Let's go Series.
With the side games... it would be the GO game as well as Pokemon Shuffle.

Posted by: gregoryk Jun 4 2019, 11:48 PM

the pokepark games for the wii,,,,

Posted by: Ichiyama22v2 Jun 8 2019, 02:47 AM

The Kalos games (X/Y). The "rivals" are all complete jokes that never give you any kind of challenge even without EXP Share, the Lumiose Gym is just the Cinnabar Gym but worse because you can't just forego the quiz and battle without repeated "Oopsey, ya got it wrong! Try again!", it makes no sense to gift the player a Lucario halfway through the game when they can catch a Riolu before the first and have raised a Lucario of a higher level judt give me the dang Lucarionite and KEEP YOUR DOG KORRINA! On top of that, the game as a whole just screams spectacle over substance. Yeah, the jump to 3D graphics was great but put something of value in those fancy new clothes. The Kalos games just feel so...generic. Like they're the stereotype of what people who don't play pokemon think every pokemon game is.

That said, the Berry Farm was fun and Megas are neat.
