Global PokédeX Plus Forums _ Pokémon Debates _ What do you EAT? D:

Posted by: Fayah May 14 2009, 08:15 PM

So, me and my friends have had this long debate on if you eat pokemon in the game/series. Well, you don't see any other real life animal. And I don't THINK everyone in the pokemon world is a vegetarian.

Plus there are items like slowpoke tail, paras mushrooms, etc.

Eating pokemon seems reasonable, doesn't it? But wouldn't it be harder for people to kill pokemon since they could be useful in so many other ways? I think it'd be different from this world since the pokemon world seems to have a greater interdependence with pokemon.

But personally, I think they totally eat pokemon and just never mention it to prevent kids playing their game from knowing that their best friend evar is also a delicacy. Mmmm tauros burgers.

Or

EVERYTHING IS MADE OF TOFU BD

Posted by: Lieutenant Sadism May 14 2009, 08:17 PM

Some Pokemon I wouldn't mind eating; others it just sounds so heartless.
I wouldn't mind eating Tentacool, though.
Mmm. TentaCalamari.

Posted by: Fayah May 14 2009, 08:29 PM

I'll pass on the tentacool, who knows if it's poisonous xD

Posted by: Lieutenant Sadism May 14 2009, 08:33 PM

No problem.
I'll just squirt some of that ink on Corpish. Makes for a good sauce.

There's some sort of weird religious scripture that you can read in the library in the Diamond/Pearl/Platinum games that details humans eating Pokemon from the sea. There's also the fact that Sweet Honey (possibly produced by Combees, Vespiquen, or Beedrills) and things like Moo-Moo Milk (made by Miltanks?) that are consumed by Pokemon and humans alike, meaning that they do, at least, eat things produced by Pokemon.

Posted by: Ness May 14 2009, 10:23 PM

I'm vegan IRL, so I can't even fathom eating a Pokemon. D8

Posted by: Fayah May 16 2009, 02:03 PM

Where is this library in the games? o-o

Posted by: johnrichard1991 May 16 2009, 02:08 PM

I know that they eat fish-like pokemon such as Magikarp.
They might also eat Parasect's mushrooms, but I'm un-sure.
They also drink milk from Miltank.

Posted by: CheckeredPenguin May 16 2009, 02:16 PM

Yeah they probably do eat pokemon.
Imagine eating a flaffy, it has a shocking taste o_o
Ugh I should probably stop thinking about this if I want to eat. sweat.gif

Hn. I haven't given the subject too much thought yet - as it brings to mind the subject of PokeMon sentience.

Most PokeMon species appear to be sentient, intelligent beings - but at the same time, they live much in the manner of wild animals, complete with their own ecosystems - and it's obvious some of them eat each other - and it's all organic and natural and in tune with the great circles of the cosmos, and I doubt they bother to think 'Hay wait a minute I'm eating another sentient creature with its own hopes and dreams!'. They just do what nature tells them to do to survive.

When you think about it this way, it may only seem that if PokeMon aren't bothered by it, humans probably aren't too. I'm pretty sure that within in-universe context, there are a lot of people who question the sentience of PokeMon, thinking of them as just animals - and on the other side you have psychotic PETA-types who seek to abolish the consumption of PokeMon, who view PokeMon training as barbaric abuse of creatures that should live wild and free.... you know. The sort of people who "won't even drive through towns with 'Ham' in their names", as Bill Bailey so eloquently puts it.

It's also quite possible only a few species are consumed by humans as food and raised specifically for it in farms - because there are regulations related to the sentience level of certain critters. But hell if I know. (shrugs)

Well, sure.

Miltank/Tauros Burgers, Filleted Magikarp, Milktank Milk, Grumpig Ribs, Chansey Eggs, Togepi Omelet, Octillary Calamari, Scrambled Exeggcute, Krabby Legs, Seaking N' Chips, Kentucky Fried Torchic, Unown Alphabet Soup, Ditto Jelly, Cherubi Pie, Feraligatorade, ect.

So many choices!

Posted by: Ellie Jun 9 2009, 07:06 PM

"Feraligatorade,"

I lol'd very hard at this.

Combusken drumsticks, Oddish-and-Grotle salad, and grilled Tauros, all made on the Torkoal grill!

I can just see a Torkoal-shaped grill out there.

Feraligatorade.

...The next time I get a bottle of Gatorade, I'm going to write that with a sharpie and draw a little chibi Feraligatr on it.

I would eat some of the pogeys that aren't really portrayed as "smart," like Tentacruel, Crawdaunt, and Magikarp (even though I don't eat seafood IRL.) Taurosburgers would be A-OK.

I'd have a hard time eating a Pikachu or something, though. Cute pogeys would be hard to eat, and so would human-like ones.

Edit: Also, regarding Pokémon products, Tropius's dex entries state that people eat the fruit on its neck.

Posted by: Raitozaki Jun 10 2009, 09:48 PM

I haven't really give this much thought either. I actually didn't think about it until now.

I guess they'd have to eat some of the Pokemon.
It's kind of like reality, except Pokemon are bit smarter than your average animal.
Huh... That's a good thing to think about in a new light.

Posted by: laskuraska Jun 10 2009, 09:51 PM

Yeah, I could see eating pokemon. It wouldn't be too far off from real life, some people keep chickens and pigs as pets even though we eat them.

Posted by: eneko Jun 10 2009, 09:59 PM

i thought they ate pokemon i mean come on, in the anime brock makes freaking sandwhiches and burgers and stuff so im sure they eat pokemon, where would they get the meat from ? lol.

i know the pokemon eat each other, it says that swellow or some bird pokemon eat caterpies, magikarp, and wurmple. i tihnk its like pigey - pigeot and taylow - swellow, maybe spearow and fearow its says on their dex entrys buy idk! but i think they eat pokemon lol.

Posted by: sad love song Jun 12 2009, 02:35 PM

I haven't given it much thought either.. But, LugiaFreak seems to know what they eat.
I lol'd at Feraligatorade.. xD

Oh ya, I heard they could eat Chansey eggs. O__o;
It's said that, if you eat its egg, it'll bring you happiness
Yet... It can be used for Egg Bomb.. xD

Actually, I've noticed that Pokemon is getting a bit more... eehh, "kid friendly". Pokedex entries from Red and Blue can be a bit more graphic than the newer versions. Pidgeot's entry mentions it eats fish Pokemon like Magikarp. I could assume that pokemon that are strictly carnivorous would eat other Pokemon. As for people... I guess you could if you really wanted to. It'd be like eating a Dolphin or a Monkey... just another intelligent creature =/ Whatever floats your boat.

BUT, I do remember watching one of the old Pokemon episodes years ago [Where ash goes to battle Misty at Cerulean City] and I saw fish in the tank in the background. FISH, not Magikarp, not Tentacool, not Psyduck, even, but just regular looking fish.
Even though it's not in-game, I do think that there exists normal animals in the Pokemon world as well. It never shows them [there may be a reference that I just can't remember], but then again, who cares about seeing a cow or rat or pidgeon? I want Pokemon!

Anyway, just my take on it ^_^.gif

Posted by: Pokemonmaster345 Jun 19 2009, 02:34 PM

Yeah. I've seen Ash and friends eating hamburgers and fried "chicken". Are they really Tauros/Miltank and Farfetch'd? It always baffles me. confused.gif

[quote Richard Strahl]

I also once saw Misty getting attacked by what looked like droves of mosquitos or gnats. Way too tiny to be a Pokemon, but giving credibility to the theory that there are real-life animals in the Pokemon world.

Posted by: Spearow Jun 20 2009, 12:18 PM

In the animeverse it's reasonable to assume that there are some non-Pokémon life forms here and there, which are used for food, based on the evidence of the fishtank, chicken leg, etc.

In the gameverse, they eat products from Pokémon, e.g. Moomoo milk, but as far as meat goes I've always liked to think that people in the Pokémon world use soy/veggie-based substitutes and just have less dependence on it than we do. Maybe they get their protein sources from other places and cultures around the Pokéworld have developed respecting the Pokémon as near-equals (except for that whole capturing and battling them part, but that in itself is a debate) and would see killing them for food as a barbaric act.

Posted by: PowerChao Jul 16 2009, 11:57 AM

Well there are some pokemon that would be inedible like bronzor. I think I would eat something like that clam pokemon (drawing a blank). And I could eat Excegutor heads for breakfast!

Posted by: technoguyx Jul 20 2009, 09:24 AM

Goldeen sushi (yes, Goldeen, because it's said Magikarp's meat is too spiky to eat). :P

Posted by: Sheria Jul 20 2009, 09:41 AM

Do you remember the episode where Ash rode Pontyta in the race when it evolved into Rapidash in the first season? Well at the festival beforehand Ash was eating a cooked Magicarp xD if anyone else spotted this? So that just evidences it further that they actually do eat pokemon.

What amuses me though, is that we get Belgium chocolate shaped seahorses and shells, what if they had chocolate shaped pokemon for treats too? dumblook.gif

Posted by: Simplyy Jul 20 2009, 09:50 AM

If I had to eat a Pokemon to survive, I would eat a Miltank. Mmhf; Miltank burgers with a tall glass of milk!

Posted by: ScHiZoPhReNiC Jul 26 2009, 10:18 AM

there have been animals in the anime just in very few instances
imagine there are countless species of animals in the real world
you can never replace all of them with pokemon
i mean there hasnt even been a chicken-like pokemon made yet (and no ones going to eat togetic!!!!!!!!!)

Posted by: MystykFyre Jul 28 2009, 08:32 AM

I lol'd at Feraligatorade too. You should totally do that for real lol!

As it is, I always thought they just had normal animals locked up somewhere. Though I wouldn't mind eating Pokemon products as long as it didn't harm the Pokemon (like Tropius's neck fruit- does it hurt when you take it? If it doesn't, pass me a Tropinana!) but full Pokemon meat would be just repulsive. How would you feel in the games/anime if your best friend was a Corphish and you found out that your favorite restaurant served Steamed Corphish Tails? *stomach rumbles uneasily* Luckily I haven't eaten anything yet today... But I don't know if I will be able to...

Moomoo milk wouldn't harm the Miltank, so I'd say that would be okay. And Rare Candies must be a treat to eat! Although things like the Pecha Berry, Aspear Berry, and Cheri Berry have tastes that I find pleasant in RL. Why not in Pokemon? I could see people living off berries and Moomoo milk. And water. And Feraligatorade, LOLZ!!! And if they need Protein, why not just take some of the Protein you can buy in the Department Store? Sure, it's expensive, but it's the only good source of Protein there is!

Tauros Burger... *nearly throws up* I am so glad I haven't eaten anything today, but I'm hungry and can't eat! Now look what you guys did! *throws something at whoever started this disgusting thread and runs away- quickly*

Posted by: Nona the Teddiursa Fanatic Aug 16 2009, 05:24 PM

I'll start by repeating what I said on a board similar to this:

"Just order me up a Taurus Burger with Miltank Cheese, and a side of Oddish Greens."

I wouldn't eat just ANY pokemon. Like, Cleffa. I couldn't do it to anything massively cute and cuddly like that.

I could, however, find myself able to eat any pokemon that is like a domesticated farm-animal. Like, all the Pig, Duck, Cow, and Chicken pokemon. Which there are no chicken pokemon...yet...but you get the picture.

After all, it says in the pokedex that people eat Farfetch'd. =D Why not? I'm sure Taurus would taste like Angus Beef, Miltank Milk (and milk products, like cheese and cream and such) would be good as well. Oddish greens...I'm joking about that, but they could make salads. XD

Posted by: Pimpburger Aug 17 2009, 09:19 AM

That would suck in the game if your enemy ate your Pokemon. You send out Tauros against an Arcanine. It roasts the Tauros and starts eating it while you sit there like, What the HECK!?!?!?

Posted by: Allen Timblin Aug 26 2009, 02:42 AM

i am a vegetarian....XD

When I was play crystal my mom saves money right and she bought me a slowpoke tail!
I was so surpised!
I thought to my self two things...
"where did she buy it at the black market!"
and
" What am I, a vegetarian, going to do with a slowpoke tail!"

Posted by: Azuras Aug 26 2009, 10:30 AM

Well, I agree with everything Dys Tuvai and LugiaFreak said and, most likely, not everyona is vegetarian. On the other hand I just couldn't eat something like a Milotic, Cleffa, Umbreon...
But... guess every pokemons is omnivorous (everyone eats berries).

And this:

is most likely an error facepalm.gif They couldn't survive, what about territorial fights, food and... the natural balance?
Hmmm...this could help:
~ Tropius bananas.
~ Paras/Parasect mushrooms.
~ Snover berries.
~ Grotle/Torterra acorns
~ Shuckle berry juice.
~ Miltank milk.
~ Cherubi. How would they know it is sweet and tasty as the pokedex says, without tasting?

not mentioning the berries/fruits (apples, etc...) growing in trees, tasty herbs, pokemon salads/meat, poffins, pokeblocks, etc...

Posted by: Verinia Mar 5 2011, 10:50 PM

Um, it's actually stated in the RSE Pokédex of Tropius that children (possibly adults, too) eat those fruits dangling from its neck. I wouldn't mind much if Octillery was made Takoyaki, or if Remoraid was steamed and eaten, or that Magikarp would be a deluxe dish someday, or that Miltank would become steak. But it would just seem heartless to eat something like an Igglybuff, or an Espeon... eee. *shudders*

Feraligatorade... yum.

Posted by: Cassowary Apr 9 2011, 10:34 PM

Pokemon, duh :p
I personally don't have a problem with the idea. I'm just wondering how they manage it, what with pokemon being so powerful and all.

Yes, so I'm not the only person who noticed this.

You can keep an animal as a pet that you'd usually eat. Ex: chickens, ducks. So it is possible that you could eat Pokemon. It might be hard to eat a Combusken, being a starter and all, but we might just wait until another chicken Pokemon comes out.

i swear that ceribi (or what ever it is) sayes in the pokedex that pokemon eat its "ball" or something

and that far'fetched has leek O_O

plus some pokemon have glands that produce sweet stuff that other pokemon eat XD
(mmmm duck and leek grin.gif how lucky would you be if you were starving and bumped into that XD)

i saw an episode where professer oak wanted to eat a krabby and ash's pokedex says farfetched's meat is valued and tasty

Posted by: MegaSinnohChampionEmpoleon May 16 2011, 08:50 PM

I'd like an Oddish salad!

Posted by: Zaltys Jun 9 2011, 01:53 PM

I'd like a Ponyta steak with side order of Mr.Mime fingers, and skewered Igglypuff for the free meal.

...yeah, no thanks. I draw the line at eating sapient creatures. Especially if you consider games such as Pokemon Mystery Dungeon to be canon. Everyone's vegan in those, by the way.

Although, what about the Pokemon that die of natural causes? If your Miltank dies of old age, would it be wrong to invite neighbors for a barbeque?

Posted by: lorks Aug 21 2012, 07:07 AM

i think in some episodes there have been rl animals? i guess they exist. i wouldn't say it's too far fetched for everyone to be a vegetarian. people at least eat things produced by pokemon such as milk from a miltank. i don't think they eat pokemon though. since pokemon only lay eggs with pokemon in them they can't eat eggs, either.

pokemon are more like humans than animals in regards to their intelligence and self-awareness so i think it would be cruel to eat them.
