Global PokédeX Plus Forums _ News and Updates _ February ACLU Fundraiser

Posted by: Zerxer Feb 5 2017, 10:36 PM

Hello all,

As you know, GPXPlus's anniversary is February 14th, making this a special month. It's also a very trying time right now for a lot of people for reasons I'm sure you're already aware of. The GPX staff would like to take a moment to say we respect all people regardless of their gender, race, religion, or other background.

This year, we're pledging to donate all money received from February's https://gpx.plus/plus to the https://www.aclu.org. As stated on their website, "The ACLU works tirelessly in courts, legislatures, and communities to defend and preserve the Constitution's promise of liberty for everyone in our country."

You can follow the fundraiser progress on our https://gpx.plus/aclu.

I'm leaving this thread open for replies, but please keep it civil. We'd prefer discussion not get too hostile.

Once again proving why the admins of this site are the best!

Posted by: Gryphaena Feb 5 2017, 11:33 PM

This is a wonderful idea!

The pure intent of this donation contribution is heart warming. I truly love what it says about the GPX+ administration and, seeing the donation progress thus far, what it says about the GPX+ members as well. I don't know if I'll be in a position to donate because of the pay roll decrease (with my husband being on disability at the moment), but I want to thank those in a position to donate and that do. It says a lot about your character; one of a positive nature. I'm sure many of us would like to donate and, if we are able, more power to the people and kudos to us all.

I love this website because it isn't just a gaming pit stop or forum to talk about Pokemon. We can talk about life and the road bumps we have to get across and the extreme joys that we face in our daily lives. GPX+ puts the plus in gaming and reinforces the positive nature in strangers - bolstering the fact that there is still so many with the best of intentions out there.

Thank you all. love.gif GPX+ love.gif

Oh damn, this is a great idea. I'd totally donate if I weren't a broke af high school student. Thanks for being awesome admins that will do this kind of stuff!

I wish I could help, because this is really sweet.

February is a great month to have a fundraising project going on, especially with valentine's right around the corner
I hope this can be done each year.

Things have reached over here in terms of.. people definitely not agreeing with things.
I'm not sure how much I'll be able to help out but I'm sure I'll be able to throw something in somewhere - every little helps.

Bill week is upon me, but once they all clear I'll happily donate something. =D

I am so proud to be a member of this site right now! <3 Thank you so much for supporting the ACLU, and people of all different backgrounds! Even that proclamation of support is extremely important right now.

I may not be able to donate THAT much, but I will definitely see if I can at least donate $5! I am very glad to see something like this, and I would be thrilled to help out, even if it only is a little bit.

I cannot express the love and respect I have for staff at the moment.
Keep doing what you do! <3

I love, love, LOVE this. Here's hoping I get a more sustainable income; if I do I'll definitely have to get some credits!

WELL ISN'T THIS SWEET. I would love to donate but I probably won't be able to. Thank you for doing this, GPX+. :'D

I think this is a wonderful idea, and definitely one that is needed at the time. I just happened to come into a little extra money, so I will be happy to help with this cause!

Nice! Thank you!

I'm from the UK so this means nothing to me.

Nor will it mean anything to anybody else who's not from the USA.

Talk about insensitive! This is an amazing way to stand up for what's right. In particular, it's a false claim because immigrants who aren't normally from the USA will think it means something to them, did you even consider that?

Granted, I am not able to donate right now, but even though I've essentially quit GPX+ and refuse to play it actively anymore, I admire this effort the staff here are making.

I'm sorry if you're offended by what I'm saying or what's going on here, but I'm not about to let you say that there's no one outside of the US who would care when in fact there are *many* people who would.

I'm not going to harp on how impolite this post is, but it logically follows that the donors are not the beneficiaries of donation drives.

(As a British person..) Thank you guys for doing this, honestly. When I next get paid I will definitely be donating, and hopefully I can some more throughout the year as well.

Since when did I say I was offended? Why would I be offended? I don't even know what ACLU day is. The A is for America, right?

*looks it up*

Right. Still don't know. It's coming up to Red Nose Day. Anybody who isn't from British Isles know or care about that?

The ACLU is the American Civil Liberties Union, which is a charity organization which deploys lawyers to fight in favor of Civil Rights cases. I have my own thoughts about them, but they've been instrumental in fighting against the most recent executive order by Donald Trump which banned all visa holders, green card holders, and permanent residents of the United States (on top of refusing any new refugee, visa, or green card applications) from 7 countries that have had no connection to terrorism in the United States. This has basically caused massive hold ups in airports by citizens trying to re-enter the United States due to dual-citizenship, despite them legally being allowed to be here. The other core issue is that it was not properly vetted and there was tons of confusion about how to enforce it by various agencies, but due to donations to the ACLU the executive order has been fought in court and been basically struck down repeatedly.

The other reason to donate to the ACLU is that this current administration may pose a threat towards civil rights in the future, and we need the full strength of the Judicial Branch to make sure it doesn't come to fruition.

I'm surprised you haven't heard about at least the main issue that the ACLU has been fighting. It's been reported on internationally for the entire past month.

Thank you to everyone for the support in February!

Just wanted to give an update here: we hit $515 (rounded up) which will be donated within the next week or two.

I will give another update once the ACLU donation has gone through.

Posted by: Zerxer Mar 15 2017, 03:12 AM

Again, I want to thank everyone so much for their support in February, as well as their support every single month, whether you're able to donate or not.

The $515 from the February fundraiser has officially been donated to the ACLU.

They don't offer much in the way of proof, but here is the receipt from the confirmation email. (click to show)

The https://gpx.plus/aclu has been updated to include this receipt.
