I would say Hitmonlee. Hitmonchan never looked very interesting to me, andn I can't say I'm a fan of boxing.
Hmmm... that's hard. Oh, I know, let's contrast them through their moveset and stats!
Hitmonchan has higher base defense than Hitmonlee.
Hitmonlee has higher base attack than Hitmonchan.
Hitmonlee also has higher base speed than Hitmonchan.
All other base stats are the same.
A fighting type with high attack power and high speed is better than a fighting type with high defense power.
2 points for Hitmonlee.
Hitmonchan's moveset consist of punching moves including Fire Punch, Mega Punch, and Sky Uppercut.
Hitmonlee's moveset consist of kicking moves including Blaze Kick, Mega Kick, and Hi Jump Kick.
Kick-based moves are more powerful than their punch-based move counterparts. (Blaze Kick, which deals 85 base damage to the opponent, is definitely stronger than its counterpart Fire Punch, which deals 75 base damage to the opponent. Mega Kick, which deals 120 base damage to the opponent, is way more powerful than its counterpart move Mega Punch, which only deals 80 damage. Hi Jump Kick, which deals 130 base damage to the opponent, is stronger than Sky Uppercut, which deals only 85 base damage to the opponent. Oh, and while Hitmonchan cannot learn any kicking moves, Hitmonlee is able to learn multiple punching moves through breeding.
Another point goes to Hitmonlee.
Hitmonchan's base exp is 140.
Hitmonlee's base exp is 139.
Therefore Hitmonlee levels up a tiny bit faster than Hitmonchan.
Another point for Hitmonlee.
And so the winner is... Hitmonlee!
Here are some other trivia proving Hitmonlee is epic.
1. Hitmonlee is the only Pokemon to learn Mega Kick by leveling up.
2. Hitmonlee can learn punching moves through breeding. Hitmonchan can not learn any kicking moves at all.
3. Hitmonlee has had more signature moves than any other Pokemon.
4. Hitmonlee's name can be broken down into "Hit", "monster", and "Lee"—as in Bruce Lee; possibly meaning "the monster that hits like Bruce Lee." Hitmonchan's name can be divided into "Hit", "monster", and "Chan"—as in Jackie Chan. Bruce Lee killed Jackie Chan once in the movie, "Enter the Dragon."
And soooo... that concludes my contrast between Hitmonlee and Hitmonchan. XD
I've always liked Hitmonlee's design and the nickname the English dub gave it, I prefer The Kicking Fiend over Hitmonchan.

I don't like either of them. So I'll just pick Hitmonchan cause it's a male that wears a skirt.
I much prefer Hitmonchan, since I think it looks a lot better than Hitmonlee. Plus, I like human-like pokemon, and it looks more human than lee does whereas lee's body/torso makes me think of a McNugget.

...This may come from the fact I picked Hitmonchan over Hitmonlee in my first game, but hey, in all-around, I just prefer balance of reckless kicks.
Hitmonchan is just more aesthetically pleasing to me than Hitmonlee, so I'm gonna go with Hitmonchan here.
