I've only once before seen a shiny in-game, and that was a shiny golbat in ruby. I found a shiny blue-flowered flabebe and proudly caught her.

I'm surprised how easy it is to find them now.

Oh nice, just tried this on that specific spot in the guide and got shiny Relicanth in like 15 minutes.

E - also caught shiny Alomomola and Octillery within 30 minutes of each other!
2nd E - Got a shiny Poliwhirl soon after. Along with a shiny Larvesta earlier, that makes 5 shinies in one day. Super happy!
3rd E - I also ended up getting a shiny Staryu before calling it quits last night due to other things. Great haul

None so far. I've never found a single shiny in any of the games I've played. Unlucky much.
Gonna try out that fish chaining though. Chaining with Pokeradar in this is too annoying. ;c

i got a shiny licketung on victory road and gave it to my friend.
the shiny ratio is 1/1000 now so of corse theres gonna be a hell lot more shinies!
ill give some one my shiny stunky for a Yveltal...Please?... id love to have a Yveltal.

im also gonna look for a shiny Xerneas :/ i hate them so much but the red makes them look a bit cooler.

Most Shinies have next to no value now, thanks to XY. Especially the ones you can get my the new chain fishing method. My friend ended up getting 8 shinies in one day, and another person already has 30 shinies despite the game having been out little over a week. I'm not having the same luck, but even I randomly found a shiny Gyarados in the Friend Safari a few days ago (shame it's the one shiny literally everyone has from Gen 2 or the remakes).

I caught a shiny Qwilfish from the chain fishing method. A pretty worthless shiny, I'm sure. Bad nature too, so I'm giving him to a friend.

I just caught a shiny Naughty Furfrou male. I wanted a female so I'll be trading him I'm sure. (Feel free to send a message.)
I missed two shiny Skiddos today too, from chain hunting. I stepped in the wrong grass twice. >.>;

Just got my first shiny ever and from Masuda Method in 155 eggs. And it's honedge. <3
I'm so happy. I've played like 6 pokemon games and with my brother's games counted, 11 and this is the first shiny ever. Fjsicbsk.
He's adamant, kind of regretted giving the father a everstone for that since brave nature seemed better but whatever. Still a great nature. Named him Jean after Jean from attack on Titan. Heh.

I ran into a shiny Petilil and got bumped and dropped my 3ds then it ran from the pokemon, I at least have shiny petilil in my dex so that's ok I guess

But I did catch a shiny slugma like 15 minutes after the petilil incident

I was wanting to find a shiny, so I tried to find one in a friend safari. The first Pokemon I came across was a shiny Lapras. ^v^ It was the first shiny Pokemon I have ever got besides those Pokemon that were in the distribution event things or the shiny Gyrados in Pokemon Pearl (or from cheating). When I was trying to catch it, it kept breaking out of my Poke balls. Then it used Perish Song, which lead me to panic a little. But I finally caught it before the Perish Song countdown thing ended.

I've really been trying to chain with the radar, but I'm finding it extremely difficult for myself. Like, I know how to do it, but actually doing it is another story.

I spent the past two days trying to chain Golett on that route south of Geosenge. The patches aren't as bad as they look, but the highest I've gotten was 33 and then my chain broke. I'm glad to know I'm not the only person who thinks that 6th gen chaining is kinda terrible.

New grass patch mechanic is awful, there isn't enough of a significant difference between "medium shake" and "intense shake". No way in hell am I even gonna try chaining again until the Shiny Charm is possible to get and people see if it reduces the suggested chain number from 40 down to at least 30. I could do 40 in 4th gen, but right now? God no.

The addition of decoy tiles was evil. That's the main reason why I gave up on Pokeradar this gen. :( It kept tripping me up every time I got the hang of chaining the tiles. (I never really used the pokeradar in gen 4. I did it a few times, but nothing ever came of it.) Chain fishing has the occasional ultra short reaction window that throws you off if you've been reacting perfectly for too long, but it doesn't feel like as much of a slap in the face as "You did everything right, but we just want to screw with you, so you lose. LOL!".

A small note that might help you out with chain fishing that I found out: If you have a Suction Cups/Sticky Hold pokemon first, they don't have to be alive. They just have to be at the front of your party. XD My Muk kept the successful draws coming for eons even though she got killed by a Whiscash early on. I had a false swiper after her who helped me get Poliwhirl.

The shiny charm might be possible to get, but don't quote me on it. You get the round charm from Sycamore after completing the Kalos dex, so it might still be that he'll give you the shiny charm for completing the nat'l dex.

(I did finally get that male Politoed, and he was Modest, too, so now I can enjoy my shiny victory and play with my cute, good natured froggy. :D )

I don't know how you guys are so successful finding shinies, I tried the past 4 days using different methods and I have yet to come across any. I've also never found a single shiny in my years playing the games. The only shinies I got were from events or using cheats.

I know how you feel. I didn't really start finding shinies until BW/2, and XY is the first time in history that I've found more than one in a game. I'd personally say to try chain fishing or the Masuda method (breeding a foreign pokemon with a non-Ditto partner), since those involve more direct effort than happenstance, and are coded to bring about a higher shiny chance.

So, now I need a foreign Pumpkaboo because I just saw http://www.tumblr.com/search/shiny+pumpkaboo. 8D Pumpkaboo will be my first gen 6 shiny hunt on GPX+. Hands down. One question, though: does anyone know if the size of the parent Pumpkaboo/Gourgeist determines the size of the child, or is it random?

Oh my God, I need shiny Pumpkaboo. I literally got traded a Gourgeist all the way from Japan. How and ever, I just noticed it is male T_T This makes me mega sad.

Stardust, I would be more than happy to trade female Pumpkaboos with you so we could both try shiny hunting (as long as you're not in Britain, of course, in which case it wouldn't really make much of a difference xD)


Edit: I just thought, could I breed that Gourgeist I got from someone in Japan with a female Pumpkaboo/Gourgeist of my own and still have the increased shiny rate? Or will it literally have to be a female from another country? I am a bit of a shiny hunter/breeder novice in game xD

Sure, we can trade! I'll PM you with my friend code (I'm in the US). I think the foreign Pokemon can be any gender, not just the mother, to increase shiny rate. We'll have to use females, though, since that's the shiny we're actively looking for. (I need to read back up on the Masuda Method to see if any changes occurred between gens 4,5, and 6.)

That's where I was attempting my chain as well. I never got up to 33, though.

I have caught two wild shinies this generation, though. The first was a MALE Combee, which is a bit meh, of course. The second was a splendiferous Eevee. Also male, so no Vaporeon evolution for him. But the Eevee was the first I found in the wild. {I had some non-shiny Eevee already from the Wonder Trade.} Found him in the yellow flowers near the Strength-movable rock on Route 10 near the Thunderwave TM. {I was in the process of moving the second rock when he popped up.}

I was really lucky this weekend. I caught a shiny Relicanth after a chain of only 7 and a shiny Poliwhirl after a chain of only 15 or something like that. And I wanted to catch a shiny Pumpkaboo and after only five minutes in a friend safari I had it. And it's sooo beautiful

They're in addition to two shiny Skrelp, a shiny Spritzee I was able to get on the GTS and the first random encounter shiny ever: A Sentret.

I'm not very good at it.

At about number 29 I accidentally hit right on the d pad before opening my quick select, moving from my spot. I knew this was a big no no, but I rushed back to my spot hoping that chains carried on on blissful ignorance. Got to 37... 38...

Nothing is biting.

I was crushed, I had literally wasted so much time on this just for it to end on a fluke. I figured screw it, one more time.

EDIT - Grr. Hiss. I found my Relicanth. Lapras used Sing to put it to sleep. Changed pokemon. False Swiped it down to 1 HP using Farfetch'd. Relicanth woke up. Switched back to Lapras. "The Wild Relicanth used Take Down." Stupid thing fainted itself. So, again, I say, "Grr. Hiss."

Yup, easiest way to get a shiny. Complete polar opposite of 6th gen Pokeradar chaining.

Well, it WAS in a Horde battle. Maybe you didn't have moves that wouldn't OHKO them. Maybe they fainted YOU. There are scenarios where, try as you might, you're unable to pull it off.

@ Letan: Took me longer than 15 minutes to find mine. And as my earlier post says, it then fainted itself before I could catch it.

And not a shiny, but I DID just get a Japanese Zygarde off the Wonder Trade for a fossil. Not a bad trade.

Got myself a shiny Jigglypuff (now Wigglytuff) in that forest next to Snowbelle City after getting the PokéRadar. I can't remember what my chain was, but I think it was relatively low (nowhere near ~40) and it was the first chain (if not one of the first) I had after figuring out how the heck it worked. Yaaay.

I found my first Pokemon Y shiny. A Gurdurr. It's not a pokemon I'm fond of but you can never look a gift horse in the mouth. I'll cherish him none the less.

I'm also using Masuda method to try and hatch myself a shiny Gastly. Not sure whether I'll keep it a Haunter due to it being one of my favourite pokemon, or evolve it into Gengar to use his MegaEvolution in battle yet. That's if I ever actually hatch one, though.

Shiny Relicanth, I got him after about 63 tries at chain fishing.
Shiny Clauncher, also from chain fishing, she appeared after 8 encounters.
Shiny Fennekin (now Braixen, later Delphox), he hatched after about 580 eggs, using Masuda Method.

I got a shiny Ralts from wonder trade! Then I woke up.

In reality, I've hatched over 400 Scatterbugs without a shiny. They're all Icy Snow, so I've been throwing the fails into wonder trade so other people can enjoy them. I used to give them all random names, but now I've gotten tired of coming up with unique names for all of them, so I've taken to naming all the males Pretty Fly, and the females either Weiss, Shurelia, or Eolia.

I fished up a shiny Gorebyss while trying to find a second regular one to trade for a Huntail. :D

Three of my four shinies are Naive (Gurdurr, Gorebyss, Floette). My fourth (Poliwhirl) is Calm. Not to look a gift horse in the mouth, but I hope I don't get anymore Naive ones. That nature is more of a liability than anything.

um....if you have a Slugma, Magcargo, Magmar or Talonflame in the front of your party, egg hatching is much faster. as long as they have Flame Armor/Flame Body

I still can't believe I traded that Kecleon, but on another note, my friend Hatched a Shiny Riolu a couple of weeks ago .
He was looking for a Riolu with Inner Focus, and told me he would use his newfound Shiny Lucario in battle; If its moves and stats didn't suck so much. Why must you all torture me with your shinies? I've been Pokeradar hunting for hours with no results

I still only have my two shiny Vivillons. But my friend, I swear. She was playing X for the first time and found a wild Swirlix. Killed it for exp. I was Skyping with her at the time, and mentioned that I was planning on hunting for a shiny Swirlix. She asked what the shiny looked like, and I showed her a picture. Her response:

"Oh shit. Welp."

SHE MISSED THE SPARKLES AND KILLED A SHINY SWIRLIX BECAUSE SHE THOUGHT IT WAS NORMAL.

Caught a shiny Pachirisu by chaining just today. Female, level 24 with naughty nature caught in a Premier Ball at a chain of 22.

The strange thing is, I didn't hear any music changes during the sparkles, nor I obviously didn't hit the 40 mark. It just happened, I ran towards the patch with sparkles and bam, shiny Pachirisu get. I'm so happy.

I now have six shinies! I'm working on getting more, but I'm still no master and my luck has been going from good to bad very quickly and randomly.

my first shiny was skrelp, then magikarp, skiddo, zigzagoon (by surprise!), electrode and dedenne.

I got my shiny zigzagoon and electrode by surprise. i was hunting for shiny caterpie and for shiny manectric when I got them both. oh well! I got my dedenne today. Ive been hunting for two days now for him. Im glad!

I now want a shiny eevee, but it'd be extremely hard, plus I don't have a friend registered who has a normal type friend safari with eevee in it ;o;

Since the last post I made here, I've found the following shiny Pokémon:
- a Scraggy from a horde battle (I was searching for it)
- a second Spritzee, this time from the friend safari
- a Clauncher, traded one of the Skrelps away for it
- an Alomomola via chain fishing
- a Bunnelby via chaining! this was the first chaining success of mine, I love it! after many tries, this one appeared after only eight "rounds"

too bad I have zero luck with breeding.

- Masuda'd a shiny Eevee while breeding a crap-ton of Eevees to Wonder Trade to people on Christmas; named him Adam cuz I couldn't think of a better name, and then evolved him into an Umbreon cuzomgsopretty

- Chain-fished a shiny Dragalge in Cyllage City today while chain-fishing for the lulz; named him Neptune cuz he looks like a "king of the sea" type with all that purple plus the green crown-fin-thing. I'm so glad to finally have a shiny 6th-gen Poke!

I used the Masuda Method to get a shiny Dedenne, and after hatching probably over 100 or maybe even 200 eggs... I got nothing. Then, after I went into like 10 battles of either a Mawile or a Dedenne... I find a shiny Dedenne. I named her Cocoa.

- Went to train somewhere and WHOA! Random shiny Yanma in a horde.

Chain-fished myself a shiny Barboach (now Whiscash; nicknamed Gumbo) and a shiny Basculin (nicknamed Markiplier) today. To my memory, I'm pretty sure this is the first time I've gotten 2 shinies in one day*; totally awesomesauce. B) Dang, chain-fishing is OP!

*Edit: in 6th gen, at least. I just remembered the one time I got 2 shiny Ponytas ~20 minutes apart in SS once. Derp.

I haven't seen a single one on X and I probably never will. XD I only have two shinies (Linoone on Sapphire and Crobat on HG) and I have no idea how ppl find them so easily. Do you people make sacrifices to Yveltal? Pray to Arceus? Buy them on the black market??

I've never tried chaining or breeding or anything tho; I lack the attention span

^ Chain fishing is the best way to start since you have a relatively high chance of finding something. It's just that it will be a Water type and you have less control over what you get compared to breeding or using the PokeRadar.

I caught a shiny Geodude in a horde this morning. GEODUDE in a HORDE. I was so glad that he had Sturdy and that the other Geodudes mostly spammed Rock Blast until I could fish him out. The last non-shiny one used Magnitude before he went down. My shiny Geodude has a Brave nature, which is great. I haven't checked his IV's yet. I appropriately named him "JESUS FORCE" because I still can't believe they didn't Magnitude each other to death like normal.

12 hours of hunting gave me 4 shinies. I was up for 15 hours yesterday. *eye twitches*

Lillipup, female shiny Eevee, Minccino, and male shiny Eevee. All of this was for one friend's birthday. Ugh. I gave her the male shiny Eevee since I didn't already have a female. Evolving the Eevee to Sylveon later.

I used to be good at this in my Platinum game, but it's taking me a while to get used to it in Pokémon X.

But...! A couple of days ago, I managed to find a shiny Pancham through chaining! \o/

I got a shiny Magikarp, which I then evolved into Gyarados on Pokémon X. My next shiny hunts are going to be for a Froakie and a Charmander (probably daycare stuff; I'm not very good at chaining with the Pokéradar.)

I wish I knew how to trade Pokémon from HG to Pokémon X, because I have my gorgeous shiny Ho-oh in that game...

How'd you get that? If you want to bring him to Pokemon X, you have to transfer him to a copy of Pokemon White 2/Black 2 and use PokeTransfer.

I love telling my shiny Ho-oh story. I always save before I go into legendary battles, just in case I accidentally make them faint before I can catch them. Well, I made the Ho-oh faint the first time, so I shut off the game, restarted and went to battle him again to find it was shiny! So one masterball later, and I now have an awesome shiny legendary.

Also, thanks for your help! I guess that's yet another reason for me to go and purchase Black 2 or White 2!

Successfully chained for a shiny Chatot!
I got a chain of 40, then had to use the Pokéradar for a while longer, and... tadaa!
So happy to see that handsome little fellow appear. ^^

I also traded one of my shiny Floatzel for a shiny Mienshao yesterday.

EDIT: Just traded my my second to last spare shiny Meditite for a shiny Sawsbuck (Spring), with a passerby. ^^

Shiny Amaura is next on my list! I'm currently Masuda-breeding them, hopefully a lovely white one will pop up soon!

One of my friends is shaping up to have great shiny luck in her X version. I detailed on an earlier page how she found a shiny Swirlix and accidentally killed it, so I tracked one down and gave it to her to make up for it. Then tonight, when she was catching Eevees in a Friend Safari, she ran into a shiny Lillipup. She caught that one.

I transferred a shiny Eevee over from White 2 and evolved her into Sylveon. I have no real intention of using her in battle, but she's 30/31/31/31/30/31 and Modest (yep, blatantly RNG'd), so she could be an option if I ever change my mind. I also brought over the legit half of my shiny Eeveelution collection, consisting of Jolteon, Flareon, Leafeon, and Glaceon, but I wonder traded them away to make some random people happy.

Also bribed someone on another forum to trade me her shiny Froakie, but I ended up trading that one away too after deciding I wanted a male so the nickname I wanted would make a bit more sense.

After what seemed like forever, I found a shiny Amaura in my Pokémon X.
Used Masuda Method, and he appeared from egg #1760.

After that, I started shiny hunting Archen just for fun, and whoa!
He appeared after only 28 eggs.

They're both so pretty~

I caught my first shiny in Y the other day! It was a Spinda! c: I was looking for one with Contrary, but then the shiny suddenly became so much more important. c:

I've had friends trade me shinies too; shiny Gigalith (the most recent) and shiny Woobat are the only two I've got though.

All of this, of course, is excluding the event shinies you could get in BW/BW2 back when the games were about to be launched.

Ugh. I have the worst luck when it comes to shiny hunting. I spent 3 hours in a friend safari looking for shiny dragons. I looked up easy ways to get shinies, followed it perfectly, and still no luck, even on the second day. Other people said they found shinies in 15 minutes! Not 7 hours! I think I should just give up.

Someone in one of the groups I'm a member of on Facebook wanted any shinies and was offering a shiny event Rayquaza, shiny Groudon, shiny Oshawott, and shiny Tepig. I traded my shiny Druddigon for the Rayquaza and got my friend the Groudon and Oshawott.
The Rayquaza is so beautiful.

I just got a shiny Ditto! I'm learning how to get good IV Pokemon, and I needed a Friend Safari with Ditto. Then I needed to find the Ditto I wanted with the right nature so I can breed. As I was looking I ran into a shiny Ditto. Now I have two, so I don't even know what to do with this one.

In Pokemon OR I got the Shiny Beldum(no shiny Metagross) and received a Shiny 6 IV female Buneary from someone on FB. She was my dream shiny and I'm super happy! Can't wait evolve her. Her mega is awesome. Still thinking about a nickname for her...

I've caught two shinies in Alpha Sapphire, and have seen 3. First one was a shiny Aron I found in Granite Cave while trying to complete the Dex Nav for the area. Female, dunno the IVs, and nicknamed Mythril. After that, I was fishing on Route 118 for a female Carvanha to use as my main Surfer, and I found a shiny Tentacool, but accidentally KO'd it when trying to catch it. The third one I found (and second caught) didn't show up until after I resolved the crisis with Primal Kyogre and was found in the desert on Route 111 with the Dex Nav, a shiny Dwebble, again don't know IVs, male (IIRC, I don't have AS with me at the moment) and nicknamed Bronze.

The Diglett was from a single egg that I was hatching for the data too, lol. Now if only I had that sort of luck for shinies I was actually looking for.

I was just on Route 7 in Y looking for Berries so I could get some more mutations and ran across a shiny Croagunk of all things! I caught the li'l fella and named him 'Azure'. He's Level 12, has a Lonely Nature and a Characteristic of "Sturdy body". I'm planning on raising his HP/ATK in Super Training at the very least. Not sure what other stats to raise, though. Maybe SPD/SDEF or SPD/DEF.

My very first X and Y Shiny was a Floette named Lavender. She was actually a gift from an online friend, since he knew that I didn't have any other Shinies at the time.

The first Shiny I managed to encounter and catch myself was a little Luvdisc. I was trying out the chain fishing method, and was successful. I was really happy, and could hardly believe it!

I later tried chain fishing again to obtain a Shiny Relicanth. It took a lot longer to find compared to the Luvdisc, though.

I also tried out the Masuda Method and got a Shiny Clauncher (I have Y so I couldn't chain fish)... But it took FOREVER! I remember playing my game again after leaving it be for at least a month to find that my party was filled with Clauncher Eggs. And... Well... Funny thing is, one of those Eggs WAS the Shiny!

I also got a Shiny Froakie from breeding, too. I was using the computer and hatching Eggs in Y at the same time, and I looked back at my 3DS and there he was!

And then there's the multiple Friend Safari Shinies that I got. Espurr, Slugma (now a Magcargo), Ferroseed (now a Ferrothorn), and I think some others too. Some of them were even found accidentally! For instance, the Slugma. I was trying to find a Shiny Braixen for my best friend, and instead a Shiny Slugma shows up! I feel bad for my friend, since she's been trying to breed a Shiny Fennekin for quite some time... I think she's taking a break right now.

Since I'm really bad at chaining with the Poké Radar, the DexNav was a godsend. I used it to get most of my shinies, including Moonfall the Gardevoir, Sunrise the Buneary, Skullface the Relicanth, Peppercorn the Ponyta, Tornado Bolt the Manectric, Lapis the Corsola, Echo the Chatot, and Argent the Eevee.

Story time: I was dex-chaining for Eevee with my trusty Breloom, Falcon, in Alpha Sapphire and found a shiny male one. Not wanting to use False Swipe and risk a self-KO on the off-chance that he knew Take Down, I spored him and threw three Luxury Balls, which all missed.

He woke up, bit Falcon, triggered Effect Spore, and was poisoned. OH NO, WHAT NOW. With his HP bar ticking down, I threw even more Luxury Balls and even a few of my Ultra Balls at him, but he broke out of them all.

Thankfully, RNGesus was feeling merciful that day: that particular Eevee was also carrying Refresh and cured himself when he was at roughly 1/3 health. I promptly Spored him, caught him, and named him Argent.
