Not counting the movies here. What sad moments in the show made you tear up?

-Pikachu's goodbye?

-Butterfree flying away?

For me I think it had to be the big parting at the end of the Johto saga, when Misty left to become leader of her gym and Brock went home to deal with family issues.

Probably when Ash left the Jhoto region. That's when the show went downhill.

But i also thought the Butterfree episode was sad.
I like to believe everytime a flock of butterfree flies over Ash in the show, his butterfree is in it.

When he said goodbye to Pikachu that was really sad. It was also really sad when he
let Butterfree go as well.

Charizard being left at Characific valley was horribly sad because he pretty much said
Charizard was too weak.

Also when Jessie gave up her Dustox so it could live happy with another Dustox and
when Team Rocket left their Weezing and Arbok behind those were sad moments.

When Butterfree left the show. It was my favourite Pokemon Ash had till then. I was really, really very sad throughout that episode. ;_;

I was also very sad when James and Jessie gave up their Weezing and Arbok, just so that they can protect the young Koffings and Ekans.

Oh man. Only ONE episode could make me bawl (but now I'm going over the episodes, I can find a few more that are tearworthy).
The Butterfree Leaving episode.
I sat in front of the TV (I was very little ) and just cried my eyes out. I couldn't stop watching either. It was like I couldn't look away or Butterfree would be gone forever
I remember my brother being like "Why do you watch it if it makes you cry, stupid?"
My answer? "Because it's POKEMON!!! I have to watch it all!!"

For the anime, I'd say Butterfree leaving ,it is so sad I almost cry.(almost)
But the moment I think the most saddest is when Ash is turn into rock in the first movie, I really cried when that happen.(all the pokemon crying make it fell even sadder).

once again, butterfree episode, leaving charizard to be stronger(I know he can come back anytime, but still, it was Ash's first powerhouse.) Ash almost leaving his Pikachu, James leaving his chimecho, Team Rocket leaving Arbok and Weezing(that's leaving your first pokemon ), Ash leaving his Pidgeot to protect a swarm of pidgeys and how he promised he'll come back to it(it's sad because HE NEVER DID

It didnt made me cry but the episode in which a rock runs over bulbasaur made me sad when ash saw a flashback in dark color. I thought bulbasaur was died. I also felt sad about Chimchar episode. It was behaved harsh by Paul and etc.. Those episodes were sad also made me like Chimchar.

Chimchar being abandoned by Paul during the 3 part tag team arc, then Ash decided to train Chimchar, and Also the Episode "Chimchar's Tears/Tears for Fear" where Chimchar was trying to adjust to his new life under Ash's team.

I remembered being sad by the time I first heard the song "The Time has Come" on a CD (I hadn't seen the episode yet) but I honestly don't remember if I found the actual episode sad...
Now a days I just get annoyed whenever they leave a Pokèmon behind.
Like with Cacnea: Darnit James! Who gives a **** if it doesn't know that move?

I did get a bit sad whenever Ash "dies" in random movies (Mewtwo Strikes Back and Lucario and the Mystery of Mew...wait a minute is Mew out to kill Ash??) and seeing Pikachu crying over it afterwards.

What really made me cry, though, was when Ash found Charmander. Such a brave Pokémon!

sadd moments? uum, the first episode that actually made me cry was when he found Charmander, running in the rain to rescue him ... when he realeased Butterfree, then when he left Charizard at Charcific valley. next when jasey's arbok and jame's weezing...

pretty much all the times Pokemon left their trainers, especially when Butterfree left. the one thing i do hate is when you never actually see the pokemon again like Butterfree and Pigeot

Okay, the saddest pokemon episode for me would have to be the episode where Ash left Charzard behind with those other charzards. God, I never cried so hard. XD Expecially since i was like eight back then. XD

But movies wise, i think when Latios died. Or fainted.....Which was it? If memory serves right Latios died and I just CRIED like a baby.

1.When Ash leaves Butterfree with a Pink Butterfree;and also when he leaves both Pidgeot and Lapras...you know whats the feeling leave a friend right?
2.When Manaphy says "Love you,Love you...May" and then leaves
3.When Ash dies in Mewtwo Strikes back!
4.When Togepi get back to Togepi Dimension
5.All the saddest :P

I know I said movies didn't count for this thread, but I have to add I have never cried harder for this series than I did for the ending of the Lucario movie.

and a note on the butterfree thing: People keep wondering if it will be back. Well, I may be remembering wrong, but I swear I remember the dex, or something, saying butterfree DIE after mating. So I don't think its coming back folks.

It's probably because the first pokemon I caught was a caterpie on pokemon yellow, which won me my first badge and is now lv 52. I love it

I don't remember what episode it was, but I do believe Ash(Pikachu/Charmander Bulbasaur and a couple of others I forget) were all huddled in a frozen cave in a blizzard and Charmander had to save them all and it was completely awesome and touching \o/

I think it´s incredibly sad each time they leave a Pokemon and say things like "We´ll come back for you" and "We´ll never forget you" when every intelligent person knows that that Pokemon might appear in a flashback the next episode to explain to the people who didn´t watch that week why it´s gone but after that IT WILL NEVER BE SPOKEN OF AGAIN!

Of course they don´t want to break the hearts of little kids watching the show by telling them they will never see Pidgeot and Butterfree again but I can´t help but think that the Pokemon might be waiting for their trainers return forever without knowing what happened to them. Then it would have been better to say "We might never see eachother again but at least we had a good time as a team".

I would say when ash or anyone released their pokemon. Especially when he was going to leave Pikachu with the other ones in the forest, that me really sad even though he came back. Oh and when Charizard was trying to get into the valley after he lost and sat in the water the whole night even though he could have died if his tail fire went out. Then when Ash did leave Charizard there it was sad too.

the lapras one, pikachu one, butterfree one and when misty left.... i think they should re-unite her with togetic in one of the sinnoh episodes. she's looking for a lumineon and she comes back.... so there's is 4 then ^^ it's went pretty bad without misty.... she made me giggle sooo many times

I agree with everyone who said after Ash left the Johto Region. After downloading every season, I wanted to bite the directors head off for making the Animé go downhill. Then again, that's what happens when you try continuing a popular series!

There were several scenes that made me cry, but the one that made me cry most was when they thought Bulbasaur died. I can't remember the name of the episode, though. I was just staring at the screen and kept saying, "No, they can't kill off Bulbasaur!" Then they started showing flashbacks, and I was so sure he was dead and started bawling. I had to run and get some tissues.

oh and in the manafy movie when ash practically was about to commit suicide (The place was filling up with water and he somehow escaped? ) It was sweet for him to give the escape pod to May (Pairingconfusionplz? )

Oh no, I don't cry at the show... I've cried at a lot of the movies though. But I cry at a lot of things. ^^

Hmm... Butterfree leaving was really upsetting for me. I'd watched it grow and when you're 7 or however old I was you get attached.

most of the sad moments to me were the leaving moments.
pikachu's goodbye butterfree's goodbye. i think squirtle left and charizard too
and when team rockets pokemon left so many flashbacks

but if in the movie i think it would be where the clones had to fight each other and with pikachu clone slapping pikachu

Because I start to tear up in every episode of pokémon!
I tear up when something really sweet happens, when something horrible happens, when someone's leaving, ect.

I can name of the things that made me die completely:
- Misty & Brock laeving Ash in the end of the Johto league.
- Charizard leaving Ash.
- Jessie saving her old friend, Blissey.
- Movie: Pokémon Heroes. (<-- When that thing happens with Latios.)
- Movie: Lucario and the Mystery of Mew. (<-- When that thing happens with Lucario.)
- Movie: Spell of the Unown. (<-- During the credits.)
- In the episode where you think Bulbasaur dies.
- Ect. (I could go on..)

My saddest moment is when Bulbasaur goes back to Oak's lab to help the Pokemon that were arguing and it looks like Bulbasur got crushed under the boulder. The sad music and the montage had me fearing the worst for Bulbasaur.

The part that upset me the most was at the end of the Jhoto saga when the group parted ways. I remember after watching that going ".......they are coming back, right?"
And Pokemon was never the same after that, even with Brock back.

I cried when I watched Pikachu Party because it was sad. I cried the second time I watched it from laughing so hard. Go West, Young Meowth also made me cry when I was a wee kid. The episode with Ash and Misty and so on working at the human hospital working on Pokemon also made me tear up when I was, like, 5. Cubooone!

Saddest... where he leaves Gliscor. I will never forgive him. *shakes fist* Ok, just kidding. And I do not blame the guy. A four (she's a runt?) foot pokemon that weighs about 90 pounds that constantly leaps on you and knocks you over? Not to mention, when she was a Gligar it was even worse because she weighed more and went straight for the head. Neck! Also, Gligar attacks by latching onto your face and jabbing poison into you. Does this sound familiar?

It was still sad, though.

Bye bye Butterfree. It was the first time Ash released a Pokemon, and I totally wasn't expecting it. Poor Butterfree...hope it's happy out there with the pink one

When each of Ash's original team leaves...

Butterfree leaving to have a family
Pikachu's goodbye (didn't really leave but it was sad)
Pidgeot leaving to protect younger ones of its kind
Charizard joining the Charific Valley after proving its worth in the water
Squirtle to join the Squirtle Squad and his and Bulbasaur's farewell to eachother
Bulbasaur finally leaving to become an ambassador at Oak's

i cry anytime they release one of their pokemon, no matter how much i don't like it.
like when jessie released her dustox (i hate that thing!) i was bawling.
(i cry way too easily)

but i think it's safe to say the saddest part for me was in the first movie when ash died.

I know a couple of people have said it already, but when Ash died and their tears brought him back to life... I was crying.. so hard. When I was like 5 haha. I cried the last time I saw it a couple years ago

Also when Lucario scarificed himself I felt tears xD

My saddest moment? Was when they got different voice actors! But really most of the sad moments was in the movies, for me anyway.

The first episode touched me so much when I was 4 and watched it for the first time. The music... Tears after cloudy weather... I remember it always after that. Also Pikachus goodbye, I was terrified Pikachu would actually leave the show O_O And Bye Bye Butterfree, and most importantly... When Ash died in the first movie. That's where all of my friends have cried when we were little. *shivers* I was pretty much living Pokemon when I was little, so that might be the reason...

honestly when I was 7 i think, I cried a lot during these two episodes. Especially when ash was the last one to shout "Goodbye butterfree!" when his Pokemon is over the horizon already. sniff.

after reading all the replies it's hard to say. for me it was a mixture of all the times the characters had to leave their pokes for some reason.
the episode where ash trades his butterfree for the raticate always got me too and when butterfree left. ash and that butterfree i tell ya.

It was so sad when Butterfree left was sad and when when I was younger in that snowstorm episode where they had to like huddle all together and make a blockade to survive was sad and then the poor Charmander being left and almost dieing but the saddest was the Pokemon clone movie thingy(lol) when all the clones and regulars were whooping eachother idk why XD It was really sad during the Celebi movie thing when I thought Celebi almost dieeddd. Oh and that Latios and Latias movie where Latios died I think aggghhh! I barely remember that one =/ The movies made me cry alot, like the Arceus one where he died and came for revenge(whats up with me and dieing!? lol) and when Lucario died for the Tree thingy oh oh and when May had to leave May and Jirachi had to sleep and Girtina almost died in the Distortion World becuase of a crazed manic. lol

When Pikachu was being with its kind, and Ash was ignoring his friends and about to ;eave them behind. I was around 6, and I was hugging a pillow and saying ''NO, PIKACHU! DON'T LEAVE ME ALONE!!'' So, yeah, I guess my luv for electric pokemans started right then.

for me it was when piplup had to say goodbye to pikachu that was sad for me honestly i wasnt sad at all at butterfree's goodbye mainly because of the episode it became butterfree in i never liked that samurai guy and honestly it made me hate that episode

Pretty much any time Ash left a Pokémon behind particularly Butterfree and when he almost left Pikachu. Probably really common answers, but yeah.

Oh, and I cried when he beat Paul in Sinnoh League Victors.

OH, and I cry at almost all of the films.
