[The Rose Crusade...]

Port Barley

The port was beautiful. There were merchants everywhere selling various goods from all regions. It was very interesting. There was a little battling park nearby and a famous seafood restaurant not far from that. There were fisherman everywhere, hoping to make a great catch. Of course, there was the harbor where all the ships came in to dock. It was magnificent to see such masterfully made ships. There were children and their pokemon playing in a beach near the docks. This particular beach was very clean; not a piece of garbage in sight. Yes, Port Barley was a beautiful serene place for anyone to relax and just be content wit life. But that was not the reason Melinda was there.

Melinda settled down on a large wooden dock that went out onto the sea. She knew today was the day. She had always wanted a water pokemon. Something beautiful, elegant and mesmerizing. And boy, was she in a great place to find one! Barley was famous throughout Furoh for its selection of water pokemon. Melinda knew exactly what she wanted: a Corsola. It had power and was visually attractive. Taillow and Combee were standing by, ready to attack the pokemon that Melinda would reel up.

Earlier, Mindy rented a rod from a local fisherman. She didn't have much money on her, so she got the cheapest one she could get. The rod itself looked rather old and dilapidated, but nevertheless, it was a rod. Any rod could catch anything, as long as it had good bait, right? Well, that was Melinda's philosophy. She had Combee gather some honey which she molded into a ball and placed at the end of the line. What pokemon could resist delicious honey? She lowered the bait into the water very far; hoping that the farther the lowered it, the stronger a pokemon she would catch. Melinda said she would be patient, as would Taillow and Combee. She would lift many pokemon up, and wouldn't accept anything but a Corsola. Of course she would have many pokemon brought up from the water. Her plan was foolproof. Nothing could go wrong.

~Two Hours Later~

Nothing. Absolutely nothing. There had not even been a nibble on the line! This was ridiculous; Melinda was furious. She got tired of being angry though. She soon grew into a slumber out of the sheer boredom of the situation.

~One Hour Later~

Melinda was awoken with a jolt. Some thing had pulled on the line! She almost lost hold of the rod. But once she regained full consciousness, she was fine. She was then able to control the rod steadily. Surprisingly, the pokemon was easy to reel up the air and onto the dock. As she was reeling, she looked to her pokemon for help--only to discover that they were both asleep. She would have to surprise it with a pokeball. Right as the pokemon was lifted onto the dock, Melinda launched pokeball right at it, without even seeing what pokemon it was. By now, she didn’t care what pokemon she caught, her dreams for a Corsola were over. She just wanted a water pokemon. The pokemon obviously didn't put up much of a fight , because it was immediately captured within the confines of the pokeball. She decided to wait to see what it would be until later. She returned Combee and Taillow to their pokeballs and walked off. It was getting laterin the day, and in an hour or so the sun would set. At least she was close to a lot of shops to do stuff. She walked down the boardwalk, hoping that something interesting would occur.

(And that's where you come in! Lol, I'll be waiting )
(Oh, and don't worry about the pokemon Melinda caught, its not that great.)

[Master Houndoom]

Jaima watched Mindy walk into the pokecenter, up until she reached the Nurse's counter to check in. Then he turned back to the night, thinking on the day. It had been nice, ordinary even, until he remembered the odd voice he'd heard after thinking about his father.

Thinking about his father didn't happen often anymore. When he'd been younger, he used to think about Dad every day. The pain had eventually faded, but the memory didn't until recently. Jaima wasn't sure if that was a good thing or not.

The twins were too young to remember Dad. In a way, it was worse for them. They only remembered missing something, without really knowing what.

The voice, though, was more like Mom than Dad. Except for the fact that it was in his head, and didn't sound like his mom, it was incredibly like her; wise and sad at the same time. He liked it.

I like you, too. That's why I choose you to look after her

Jaima jerked, looking around.

Please don't be alarmed. We don't do this often, but we're impressed with you. You have an aura of kindness. Please, take care of her.

"Who's 'her'?" Jaima said aloud, feeling self conscious. Immediately, a wave of approval swept over him, much less refined than the voice.

That was her, the voice "said", a feeling of amusement riding the mental phrase like a current of water. She is most enamored with you emotions.

Again, the urge to go east overwhelmed him, so he followed it. He passed a small pokémart and he felt another urge, to buy a pokéball. He did so, trusting the urge without knowing why. It was a quarter of what he'd kept from his mother, but something told him it would be worth it.

He walked vaguely east until he came to a vacant lot. There, floating in the middle of the lot, was a beautiful white and green pokémon. At first he thought she was injured, with a red object sticking out of her middle, but a wave of reassurance and amusement assuaged his fears.

She (Because, Jaima knew, this was the source of the inner voice) nodded to him, the gestured toward her feet. The tall grass there rustled, and then a tiny pokémon peeked out. She was a pearlescent white, with a green helmet-like crest. Two red triangles sticking out from the back and front of the crest. She seemed nervous, but as he knelt, she gained cofidence and waddled to him.

She is different from the rest of our clan. She is afraid that the difference means that she is inferior.

"Difference seldom means that. It usually means 'special'." A wave of pride and sheer joy nearly overwhelmed him, and the little pokémon clapped her arm-like appendages.

Jaima stared in wonder. "Does she have a name?"

She will, when you can think of one. You will be her trainer.

Jaima swallowed, but nodded. He held the ball out to the little one, who peered at it, once again jittery. "It won't hurt you, honey. It'll be like a warm home." The little pokémon looked at Jaima, then back at the larger one. "I don't even keep my pokémon in them for very long. It's just required in some places..."

Coming to a decision, the little pokémon reached out and pushed the switch. The ball opened and energy enveloped her. Before she disappeared, she looked at Jaima, radiating trust and confidence.

When the energy swirled away, Jaima looked at the larger pokémon. She nodded, sadly, then began to fade.

"Wait!" He cried, but she did not, only leaving him with this parting thought. Take care of my little one.

Jaima looked at the ball, swallowing thickly. The larger pokéon didn't teleport away. He'd heard a tale that some strong pokémon lasted as spirits, and didn't succumb to being ghost pokémon. They faded when put to rest.

"I'll call you Mercury," he whispered to the ball, and turned to walk back. When he passed the pokémart, he bought some clay and paint to decorate the ball.

* * * * *

When he got back to the room, Mindy was knocked out, on her side as if she'd been sitting when she fell asleep. Jaima smiled and, careful not to wake her, straightened her as best he could without getting too personal. "You're too cute, you know that?" he whispered, confident she wouldn't wake.

He let his pokémon, retrieved from the Nurse, out of their pokéballs to sleep, then settled down himself for some rest. Mercury curled up in front of him, counterpointing Shadow, who was behind his legs.

Caught a level 4 ralts
