I put my level 51 Typhlosion in the VS Seeker and he got beat by a Level 7 Charmander! WHAT THE ****!

Stuff like that can happen. Level isn't the only important thing. There is battle items, as well as what action you take.
EDIT: What I mean by the action you take is whether you go on the Offensive, Defensive, or Balance. That works as Rock Paper Scissor does. It goes Offensive beats Balance, Balance beats Defensive, and Defensive beats Offensive, I think that's how it goes. And I'm also pretty sure that it affects the outcomes the most.
