So basically, at the christening of "The Hub" from Discovery Kids, a gem of a cartoon has been given to us by none other than Lauren Faust.
For those who aren't already aware of its existence, My Little Pony has tried again at making a cartoon. And they actually did it right. Shortly after release of the pilot, the internet was swept up in a whirlwind of ponies and brohooves as all our childhood fantasies came to life with one fell swoop of one really really awesome woman. Anyone who's been on /co/ most likely knows about this show's high levels of fabulousity. So basically, who here is a brony. Show yourselves. I know you're out there. -------------------- |

I was a huge fan of MLP G1. I grew up watching reruns of the show, since I wasn't born till late in 1990, but Firefly, Galaxy, and Gusty were my favorites...always wished for a black pony though. I'm a sucker for anything that has to do with horses/ponies/equines of any sort. I had most episodes of MLP and MLP:T taped and I watched them so many times... Bought all the DVDs when they came out, devastated that MLP:T still hasn't come out in the States on DVD. I was thrilled when G3 came out (didn't even recognize G2... when the toys came to McDs, I was excited until I saw them, and went "these aren't MLP!") because it was a revival of a favorite series, even if the show was nothing as wonderful as the original... But it just got worse the longer it went. Then last year, I was watching a show about the dogs rescued from Iraq by soldiers (like Lava, Nubs, etc) on the Military Network, and lo and behold, they had a commercial for My Little Pony on this new channel. I quickly did a search, and was able to tune in from the first episode. I was hooked almost immediately. I love the animation, the style, the shape of the ponies. New Spike took a little getting used to, but he was better than G3's Spike. I'd seen pics of Celestia and the odd new molds for MLP toys floating around on the internet, and finally knew what those were about. And they had a BLACK pony. (or are Celestia and GrownUpLuna/Nightmare Moon horses? o.o) It wasn't until I saw a pic showing a table of "G1 toy version, G1 cartoon version = G3 toy version, G3 cartoon version = G4 version" that I realized the actual reason I liked them so much was because they were like the originals. And Rainbow Dash was my fav here because she was Firefly, essentially. Thanks to the internet, I've been amazed at how many MALES watching the show. o-o I watch it weekly. And even went so far as to get the McDs toys. THANK YOU LAUREN FAUST. Because her dream came true, ours did as well. -------------------- |

I'm impressed by how much Faust was allowed to do with it, seriously Hasbro has kept their nose out of this one enough to keep it awesome. Apparently the only big changes were the fact that Princess Celestia was originally supposed to be Queen Celestia and the fact the show doesn't have a completely linear plot. Apparently Luna will be popping up again at some point in the future. I miss her already. o n o -------------------- |

Ok people.
I have to say this: when I started seeing these signatures all over the Awkward Zombie forums, I went whatdaheck are all these multicolored ponies from? Then I went to the Sandra and Woo website and found that they had a specific recommendation to the MLP show. I went "Hey, couldn't hurt anything," especially since there were so many positive comments on the article. They had two embedded YT movies of the show, the "Great Swarm" and "Sonic Rainboom" episodes. I went and watched them. And promptly went . I just really love the way that this show reminds me of old 2D Disney animation. The casting works, the acting isn't overdone, and the animation is amazing. I also went and watched all of them that are on YT. And, like was said on the SaW website comments, something along the lines of "this show isn't corny at all. It actually has jokes and quips that make me genuinely laugh." This is probably the best modern TV show I've seen in a long while. Makes me want to dig out my old MLPs out of the corner of my room... |

ok so yeah this show is surprising in how much its making me love it. i knew about the original when i was younger, aware of the toys but never having caught the show. suddenly theyre in memes, signatures, and lj user icons all over the place and im all wth were did all these ponies come from. so i caught the first episode after hearing about its supposed snarkiness secondhand from /a/ and whoa. its surprisingly addictive and i somehow find myself eagerly awaiting each new episode. its even managed to beat out tf prime as my most anticipated weekly show, which is saying something as i still have high hopes for that. nevertheless, i really cant get enough of it, and as a bonus it gives my wife endless glee to be able to relive her own childhood with this show, too.
seriously the next episode cant get here soon enough. -------------------- [align=center]add me for daily clicks [735/1000]

-Hand goes up-
Oh oh oh, me me me! I'm unhealthily obsessed with this new Pony show. I've always been a huge secret lover of MLP since Gen 1 and I loved to watch it over and over again when I was small. But of course as you grow older MLP becomes a little less enjoyable. I dunno if it has to do with it being aimed at the younger audience or what, but it had lost it's touch a bit for me. I tried to get back into the series when Gen 3 came into play, and it was successful! But only for a little while did it hold it's splendor. I lost interest yet again. So well, I went many years without so much as a pony in sight until that fateful day... I went onto Deviantart a couple months ago for my casual art browsing one day and I saw many pony pictures from FiM. Many fanarts, some funny demote posters, and a lot of screenshots! It got me heavily interested because of the unique art style and the characters, so I took time one night to run through all the episodes. Promptly fell in absolute love with it. <3 I think what's truly great about the FiM series is not only was it created by Lauren, it even has jokes in it for all ages! I like that they left out the "superhero" plots this time and just went about making episodes for the sole purpose of making us laugh and have fun. The lack of sugar-coating in this whole series makes it much more enjoyable too... like how easily annoyed Rainbow Dash gets with her friends, and how Twilight Sparkle makes everything seem so grueling [especially in episode 1]. It's just more "teen-like" and much more enjoyable than the past pony shows. Character development is at it's highest this time too and that gets a double thumbs up! Everyone is so different from everyone else and it's great! :] It's so great that it converted one of my friends, a Pony hater, to a Pony lover after the first episode. <3 This show is absolutely amazing and has exceeded my expectations. Good going Lauren! You saved this franchise from Hasbro destruction. -------------------- |

I'm 15 (Almost 16) yr. old girl and I'm watching it. I thought it would be lame, until my friend strapped me down to watch it. I now quite enjoy it, and would recommend it for everyone (yes, everyone.) -------------------- |

They say you fear what you don't understand. I for one don't understand the popularity of the show. It makes no more sense than when Dora or Teletubbies was popular with adults...much less the original MLP.
There's this third wave of grown women buying ponies and painting them. Furaffinity and deviantart is being spammed with pony pornography. A new kids station is actually getting ratings. People are loving and hating this without the involvement of Nostalgia googles. Grown men with I'm not going to deny that it's good...for My Little Pony, much less a Hasbro cartoon. But there's this question of "Why?" floating around out there. It's not superior, nor is it of higher quality than anything else lasting more than a season and a half. In kids show terms, that's....4 years. A part of me wants to complain as well, why isn't Hasbro pushing out any new stuff? As scared as I am, I can't say that I'm upset about it. Anytime I don't get to hear "OLD CARTOONS WERE BETTER BAWLL COW AND CHICKEN", I'm satisfied. You all go enjoy the rollercoaster, I'll watch. what do you mean when you say hasbro isnt pushing out any new stuff? do you mean toys? its no question the toy industry is slowing getting stomped on by the video game industry, so its safer to stick to familiar toy brands thats sure to sell than to create a new unheard of toy.
well people have contributed its popularity to a few reasons 1)its a meme, no doubt about that 2)the writing is actually pretty good, especially for a kids show 3)the animation 4) the irony factor, as in people are watching it to say "hey i watch a show for little girls about ponies" 5)theres been a desperate need for good cartoons as of late -------------------- |

....There is now a pony thread on every single forum that I frequent.
.... YAY! 8D Lol, I'm actually a vintage collector and have been for a few years now, and I'm presently surprised that this new show has such amazing writing, well developed characters, adorable designs, and great animation (which is saying something for a flash cartoon). So while I still like G2 better (don't judge me ) I absolutely ADORE this show~ X3 Still a little confused as to why the heck it's so popular, but hey, I ain't complainin XD -------------------- |

Actually, I can understand this thread being revived since apparently a new season is starting. But I'm not a mod.
My friends LOVE this show. I for one don't like it. It's 100% a children's show. I've heard people argue that it has elements for adults as well, but I've seen the show and frankly I can't find any. It's not as bluntly asinine as Teletubbies and other shows geared toward young children, but I wouldn't call it good. It's overly predictable, lacks any semblance of a coherent plot (short of the first two episodes), and is incredibly cheesy in places. From the first minute or two of an episode, I can tell you what's going to happen at the end. I was actually kind of interested when I saw the first two episodes. Then it totally jumped the shark for me. It had the makings for a series with a good plot, plenty of character development, and then... nothing. None of the ponies aside from the unfortunately-named Twilight Sparkle (insert obligatory Twilight joke here) ever really alter their way of thinking or acting at any point. There is no character development, and the entire series is an endless parade of stand-alone episodes. In fact, after the first two episodes, there is absolutely no mention or sight of the princess's sister. It becomes an entirely new series after that, and not one that I like. -------------------- Sofia's Shiny Army Click this link and help me get a hat! Avid Onix Fanatic Random Stuff! The whole stand alone episode thing with no character development is standard fair for children's cartoons, I don't see anyone complaining about that in Animaniacs XD Although Lauren stated that she WANTED to do a show with a linear plot line, but Hasbro wanted episodes that could be aired in any order.
I see how you wouldn't like it though, at the end of the day it is still a show for children. -------------------- |

I really don't understand why everyone thinks this show is so amazing. I watched it, yes, it is surprisingly good, but I don't understand what makes it so special. If you ask me, Dan Vs is more amazing and doesn't get enough credit it deserves.

I barely remember when I used to despise this show, and now I have watched every episode at least once.
