This has never been cleared up for me. Do you need to add the player's game name when you add them as a friend in your Pal Pad?

If you mean the game version, then no, you just add someone's friend code and their name.

Theoretically, the FCs are for your actual Friends, not some random guy on an internet forum. So the name input is there since you should already know someone before putting them in (Nintendo tries to be family-friendly. Parents are not gonna like it if their kids can voice chat with strangers through the DS).

But no, no need to put in a name. If I'm trading on a trading forum, I do put in at least part of their User name so I know who I'm trading with.
