I think it's pikachu's fault

because he used thunderbolt against those missiles and the missiles caused the seizures srsfacts.gif

Pfffft. It's the animators fault, not the rodent.

They should have screen tested that episode before airing it. If seizures were triggered during the test screenplay, they'll know what to fix in their animation.

Or they were too much in a hurry, don't ya think? :P

I blame the human Retinas

If they can't stand flashes of light such as that they don't deserve to be used....wait.....

Looking back on it, it must have been really dumb to make the flashes.

I think that they should have screened it first as well. Releasing things before they can be proven safe is a major no-no.

Hence why some kids eat the magnets off the Polly Pocket thingies. Kids do things like that. It's simple knowledge.

I think it was a stupid scene.
I saw it on Youtube, it consists of dozens of blinking colors constantly horrified.gif That's like asking for seizures...
And that one scene caused the series to be stopped for 4 months, (which in turn is why a couple of other episodes makes no sense since they were supposed to come after the Electric Soldier Porygon, but were pushed back for some reason confused.gif Snow day Out and the one with the Princess-festival I think it was... Snow Day out was especially confusing for me since it showed up after the Aerodactyl episode and yet...there was Charmander confused.gif ) and its also the reason why all animes have a warning label in the intro now asking you not to sit too close to the TV.

If you ask me the problem was easily fixed. Edit that darn scene, it doesn't have to be that flashy. There was no need to ban it facepalm.gif

I saw the episode, the animation is insane! Flashing red and blue screens for explosions? who thought that up? TV snow would have been my choice.

If it had aired here with the same results, then the APA(angry parents association) would have condemned it and put non stop calls into the tv station and their representatives and Pokemon would be no more. I hate people like that. stop taking up causes and raise your own damn children!

Oh hai

I heard that it was dubbed into English with slower flashes to make it safe, but never shown.

I bet Porygon (and the evolutions) would have done something in that show by now though if it wasn't for that episode.

EDIT: lol just watched it. It wasn't that bad really, although I hear they have huge TVs in Japan.

What's the point in banning Porygon?
Pikachu was the one who caused the flashes, why not ban him?
(Oy I just remembered something...the episode that replaced it was Pikachu's Goodbye...did they actually attempt that??)

I don't understand why they didn't just remove the offending scenes from the episode and still air it.

Hey, that airing episode was an act of community service. How many parents now know their kids are prone to seizures who had no clue before? Seriously, they should be thanking the people that made that episode.

In all seriousness though the US producers probably didn't want to run the risk of touching that episode with a ten foot pole. Not to mention all the injuries that could have been caused if it hadn't been fixed and was aired anyway.

I remember this, I was astounded when I heard about it. I've see pictures, but I never had (and never will have) the courage to watch it. blink.gif

But, um, yeah. I agree, they shouldn't have banned it. They should have just edited the inappropriate scene and replaced it with a normal, not-so-flashy explosion.

I watched this entire episode.

I liked the episode itself, it had a very interesting little story to it. It is, however, ridiculous that they put in all of those red and blue flashes. They seriously should have known better than to do something like that. It's also ridiculous that Porygon has been "banned" because of it. It was Pikachu who blew up those missiles and caused the flashes anyway.

Such a shame that a good episode doesn't get seen because of such a dumbass move.

I actually didn't react to the flashy lights. XD I watched the clip on youtube and when the flashy lights came on I was like, "..*blink*..is that it?" But I can imagine the thousands of Japanese children that were rushed to the ER didn't feel the same way. But I think it's ridiculous that Porygon itself was banned. :/ That's kind of dumb, considering Porygon wasn't even remotely related to the missle fired in the episode.

That's because you watched it on a computer screen. Not EVERYONE gets epileptic seizures, but its more likely to happen if you have a big screen (which I guess was more common in Japan back then) sit too close to it and in a dark room.
That's why every anime since has had a warning label in the opening telling kids to watch it in a well-lit room and don't sit too close to the TV.

Ah,i've seen clips of that,it would have made much more sense if it had 1's,0's and the rare 2.
If Porygon was'nt banned there might have been a chance on of the Main characters would have got one.A chance.

I've seen it.
I really think it was just the colors they used.
If they made it just a normal flashing light white color, it would have been fine.
But no, they flashed red and blue.
TRY READING BLUE TEXT ON A RED SURFACE EVEN. It hurts your eyes BAD.
